Pig Books

I cook for a living and if I can steal and/or am inspired by something in a book that I can use at work then the purchase was worthwhile. I've used many from this book, Toulouse sausage, Lamb ham and Chicken Terrine to name a few. I have at least 5 charcuterie books, I reference this one the most. Thanks

This book is clearly written in a user-freindly manner. You won't feel that it is over your head. I found it a interesting and useful lab manual.

Unang Baboy sa Langit is an award-winning children's short story by Rene Villanueva about a pig who chose to defy her nature as a pig by striving to be clean. At first treated as a deviant by the pig community, Butsekik was tried for being "un-pigly" as it were and sent to the chopping block to become a roast pig. Yet, the pestilence that the pig community suffered because of their filth proved that Butsekik's desire to be clean was right after all. The filthy pigs were thrown away and Butsekik was met by a brass band as she entered heaven. Thus, Butsekik became the patron saint of pigs because she taught them that even if they were pigs cleanliness was still important.
This is a lovely book about cleanliness and integrity. Set in both English and Filipino, the story was richly-illustrated by Ibarra C. Crisostomo. Kids from various cultures would surely love it as our own kids did.

Hard to believe Angelina Ballerina has been around for 25 years. I still remember when I received my copy of this book 20 some odd years ago (I was 4 or 5 I think). How I loved the simple yet interesting story of a little mouse who wanted to be a real ballerina more then anything else. I must have reread that book a hundred different times and practised the ballet moves I saw in the book every day. As each new book was released in America I would beg for it as soon as I saw in on the shelves. That sort of memory stays with you keenly. So much so, that even now at 27 yrs. old, I'm still purchasing the new books that come out. Because one day in the future I too will have a little girl. I can only hope that she will add _her_ name below my own childish scrawl on the front inside cover and read, then reread many times over, the story of a little mouse named Angelina and her dream of being a real ballerina.

Angelina is absolutely thrilled to have the chance to dance at the Mouseland Dance Festival in front of an entire audience. She practices all the way there, right aboard her grandparents' canal boat, as they concentrate on working hard. Unfortunately, she's so consumed by perfecting her performance, that she ends up wreaking havoc on board, and upsetting everything, and everyone that gets in her way. Now something terrible has happened, and it just might stop Angelina from being the star of the show.

As usual Katharine Holabird and Helen Craig have created another immensely enjoyable new ANGELINA BALLERINA book. Angelina is as cute, and precocious as ever, and her antics display it wonderfully. Katharine Holabird's fast-moving, easy-to-understand language will help young readers to understand everything that is going on within the story, while Helen Craig's magnificent illustrations will let readers see all of the written words acted out. Overall, ANGELINA, STAR OF THE SHOW is a wonderful new book for children, that must be in everyone's home library.

Ken Labich does a great job making fun of modern magazine journalism. This is the story of an alcoholic writer who goes from working at one rudderless magazine that is abused and over-simplified by German owners to another that is part of a media empire. He calls it the Hertz of business magazines and it sure seems like Fortune.

This book is insanely graphical and a complete charm. An excellent compliment ones collection of pig related items.

I loved this book as a child and as an adult I still find it wonderful. The text is sweet without being to sappy but it is the illustrations that make it great. I'm really sorry to see that is no longer in print.
