My three year old adores this series, and this compilation is a perfect way to satiate her endless appetite for all things Angelina. It's well-presented, contains all of Angelina's greatest hits, and is a great value. For extra fun, read characters' voices in an authentic British accent.

This book is really cute because of the pull out invitations and letters. My daughters (3 and 5) love to reach into the large envelopes (built into the story) and pull out each item. As the reader of the story, I personally enjoyed how each pull out letter or card was designed - the format of the invitation, the font used, the spelling, etc. The author and illustrator put a lot of thought into each item. For example, the letter from Sammy to William 'looks' like Sammy wrote it. It was very cute. My girls enjoy it at this age because they love Angelina - and when they learn to read themselves I think they'll enjoy it all over again.
letters in this book are enchanting!

My 5 year old adores this book for the "mail" included. The letters and invitations and all that you can pull out and read keep her absolutely fixated! She has other books with pockets and "pull out stuff", but she likes this one best because it's an Angelina book.

This book is about an aardvark who wants to see new places but when he actually gets there there are these weird creatures called pigs there.I will not tell you any more so I won't ruin it for you since there's a surprisingly intresting plot. However I will tell you this: get this book, you will not be dissapointed. The pictures are great too!

A beautifully illustrated and hilarious look at human nature and especially the nature of our prejudice against new and different ideas or people. This charming picture book makes its point as it entertains using endearing aardvarks and pigs to illustrate our human foibles. More effective than a million boring & didactic injunctions, this slim volume ranks with the Sneetches as a delightful way to encourage tolerance and open mindedness in the picture book set. I do hope the publisher will reprint it.

The Baabaasheep Quartet is a picturebook story about four sheep who move to the city to join all the wonderful activities that country life can't offer. As they try to find a place for themselves, they begin to despair of fitting in among the humans - until one day, they discover a torn leaflet on the street. They can barely make out the words, advertising a "baabaasheep quartet contest"! Hoping to meet other sheep, they enter; to their surprise the contest is actually for humans who work in barbershops and sing. But when they have the courage to join the contest, they learn that no one cares that they are sheep; all that matters is that they can sing well! A heartwarming, positive- minded story about the value of skills, deeds, courage and talent over mere conformity.

Babymouse is back, and she has a bit of a dilemma. She really, really, really wants a dog. Seeing as how her last pet-owning experiences haven't turned out so well, though, mom isn't having any of her pleas and begging. Sure, you could feel sorry for Babymouse, but you have to admit that the belly-up goldfish, escaped hamster, runaway turtle, disappearing ferret (need I go on with the salamander, hermit crabs, Venus Flytraps, or sea monkeys?) have mom worried about her ability to take care of a dog.
But Babymouse, being Babymouse, has big plans for this dog that she'll have, which will include proper care, feeding, walking, and grooming. Perhaps a dog show. When she finds a stray dog without a collar, it's love at first sight! Even though the dog doesn't like any of the names she picks out for it and can't seem to behave for even a minute, Babymouse just knows this mouse-dog relationship is meant to be.
Or is it?
As always, this eighth adventure starring Babymouse is another winner. You can't help but love her, even when her schemes go wrong, or her hilarious daydreams take a turn for the worse. Sister/brother team Jennifer L. and Matthew Holm have got Babymouse down to a science, and I for one can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

Basil is the Sherlock Holmes of the Mouse World. His friend and associate Dr. Dawson narrates the story. Mrs. Judson is their mousekeeper. The mouse detective has learned his sleuthing skills by listening to Sherlock Holmes tell Dr. Watson how he solved his cases. Basil takes notes in shortpaw. Basil and Dr. Dawson live in the mouse village Holmestead in the cellar at 221B Baker St. In this book Basil solves the kidnapping of the mouse twins Angela and Agatha. Children will enjoy this book, and grown-up Sherlockians will appreciate it even more. It is charmingly illustrated. If you like "Basil of Baker Street," there are four delightful sequels.

Review Date: 2002-10-22
"Bernelly was a country mouse. She lived west of the city in a small village that had everthing a mouse could need-except a shoe shop. From spring through fall Bernelly was a fly-fishing instructor... And in winter she spent her time tying beautiful flies." But a leaky boot sends her to the city for new shoes and a visit with cousin Harriet. "Harriet was a famous artist, and her home was also her studio. In winter she painted glorious masterpieces... And in summer she traveled to exotic places that might inspire her." Harriet was thrilled to have Bernelly visit, and took her all over the city, sightseeing and shopping, and by the end of the week, Bernelly was exhausted. "It is just too crowded and noisy here. I miss being able to sit quietly by the river watching my beautiful trout." Harriet was intrigued with such a simple, quiet life. "Perhaps it will inspire me." But of course, country life was not the life for her. Harriet was bored with fishing and gardening, napping and "dinner parties with exciting tales of trout." She missed the "hustle and bustle of city life-the noise, the smells, the shopping!" and heads back to the city, where surprisingly, she finds country life did inspire her, in its own way.....Elizabeth Dahlie's modern retelling of an old, favorite fable is playful and entertaining. Her engaging text is only outdone by her charming and endearing illustrations, rendered in soft, pastel tones, and filled with marvelous eye-catching detail and humor. Perfect for youngsters 3-7, Bernelly & Harriet is a warm and captivating read aloud with a gentle message that won't be lost on little ones...there's no place like home.

This is a delightful new version of the Country Mouse and the City Mouse.
Bernelly's an independent country mouse who loves her life. Her jaunty attire of red scarf and black boots suit her life style as a fly-fishing instructor. She spends her leisure time tying flies and reading. Her library has an eclectic group of books that include, THE KENYON REVIEW, HENRIETTA, and THE VILLAGE, which indicate that she's a well read young mouse. Of course, her favorite books are about fly-fishing. When Bernelly realizes that she needs new boots, she decides to visit her cousin Harriet for a shopping trip to the city. Harriet's a stylish city mouse who wears gold loop earrings, and has a distinctive flair for clothes. Her sophisticated life as a famous artist allows for exotic travel and shopping. She's delighted to have Bernelly visit and takes her all over town seeing the sights. Bernelly's a bit overwhelmed and home sick, and invites Harriet to visit the country. When the city cousin visits the country, she's not overwhelmed, she's a little bored with the fly-fishing, gardening and the slow pace of life. In spite of the fact that the two mice have different life styles, they seem to enjoy an affectionate relationship which adds a nice warmth to the story.
I enjoyed the detail that Elizabeth Dahlie put into her illustrations. My favorite images are of Bernelly and Harriet walking hand in hand down a cobblestone city street where a flower pot reflects a house number--a delicious tea, served on blue and white china at Putney's Tea Shop-- shopping at an expensive shoe store--and, a mixed group of Bernelly's friends sharing a conversation at dinner. Each page of this enchanting book is filled with wonderful pictures.
A well done book that children will love.

Hilda is going to babysit for Pig Won't and Pig Will. Her friends wonder if she knows what she is getting into.
Pig will helps do all the chores on the list that Mother has left, Pig won't doesn't help.
Soon Pig Won't realizes how much fun Pig Will is having just by helping. After Pig Won't makes some messes he finally decides to tell Hilda he is sorry and actually says he will. Surely Hilda is the best baby-sitter ever.
A really nice story with great illustrations, that show how work can be turned into play with a little imagination and a lot of love.

In BIG PIG'S HAT, a gust of wind blows Big Pigs hat away. When he discovers that his hat is missing he assumes that someone has stolen it. All the citizens of Beansville USA are scared of Big Pig. When he comes into town everyone hides, except for Dirty Donkey. Big Pig accuses him of stealing his hat and tries to push Dirty Donkey around. Dirty Donkey takes a stand! He won't let Big Pig push him around! This book showed a positive example of someone standing up to a bully. My children also noticed that Big Pig shouldn't have jumped to conclusions when his hat was missing. I think this book teaches some valuable lessons. My children turn each page with excitement every time I read it.
