i learned john gary's version of "la malaguena" from the lp in 1967 and it has been a treasure song in my life since then (wore out the lp.). it was my personal lovesong, and my serenade to me wife at our wedding. singing it while travelling in mexico made many friends among the mariachis.

never knew there was a book with the rest of the albumn's songs. what a treat!!

These arrangements for christmas piano music is great. I finally have piano students who are able to learn these great songs. Most of the songs are either 3 or 4 pages long, and they sound wonderful during the holidays. The level is intermediate/late intermediate. Some songs are easier than others, so in a few christmas's you should be able to learn the whole book. Enjoy!

To all the people who want to know or buy this book, it is the piano songbook I have played in 5 years (besides the One World). It has some very difficult songs but some are pretty easy like The Inn on Mount Ada or Goodnight Moon. One of the toughest song I had ever played from John Tesh is the Spanish Steps. I would recommend it to any one.

This music book is based on John's CD, Live At Red Rocks. It has most of the songs preformed at the concert, including Concetta, Garden City, April Song, Shock, Key of Love, A Thousand Summers, ect., and a few others, Good Night Moon, ect. The songs are accurately transcripted, and are fairly easy to play. If you want to impress your frends and famly, this is the song book for you!

This a great book for beginners. It is non-assuming, starts from the very basic, and takes a step by step approach on fingering and theory. It's easy to make real progress with this book.

After I got thru the first half of this book, the pieces in this book starts to become boring. I still used this book for theory, but got other books on classical music made for beginners as practices.

I started teaching my first piano students when I was 13. At first I taught with the John Thompson series, the same books that my own teacher used. Over the years, I tried several more "modern" methods. We were all amazed by the colorful illustrations and the new approaches, but eventually, we tired of them. I soon discovered that the classics are indeed the best, so I returned to John Thompson. The students preferred the music and the look of the John Thompson series; some even told me they were glad they now had a "real" piano book! Over the last 38 years, I have taught hundreds of students, and now, always with John Thompson by my side. My students love to play, and they play well because they have a thorough grounding in technique and theory.

This book teaches you where to place your 10 fingers on the keyboard starting with middle C. It has the Schaum key finder and the most excellent "sight reading drills". These are so useful for the beginner and teach you to read the notes faster. You catch on real fast with these drills.
Book Two doesn't have the sight reading drill but book Three does. All the children's Schaum piano course books have the drills.
I started with many children's books, they were all good, but Schaum had the drills.
The other very useful teaching book is Schaum's Note Spellers. There is a composer and a music history note speller and they are very helpful and fun to learn with.

Whenever Johnny Mandel's name appears as a producer, arranger, or composer on any collection of music one can purchase, I typically buy it immediately! This man has one of the finest musical minds in American popular music history. When I saw that this piano collection of his work was available and that it is arranged with his chord changes and special harmonic colors, I couldn't wait to buy it, play it, and learn from it! His songs, particularly "Emily" and "The Shadow of Your Smile" are classics, but arranged with his chord changes and colors is simply for me, the ultimate learning tool. I love to play these songs yes, but I really enjoy learning and piecing together music that really comes across as harmonically breathtaking to me. I may seem a bit over dramatic in my opinion of his work, but I find it no coincidence that Johnny Mandel is considered the best in his field by heavyweights in the recording industry.
