As this year (2007) is Buxtehude's 300th anniversary, this book is a wonderful overview of the sound world in which Buxtehude (and his contemporaries) found themselves with the organbuilding of Schnitger. Lots of photos and specifications really help those of us performing this music on our modern day instruments.

This is an extremly important book by the great and most influencial music theorist of the 20th Century, Henrich Schenker. In this book, he speaks about contemporary performance practice and focuses in particularly on the technique of piano playing and piano practicing. There are chapters dedicated to specific techniques such as legato-playing and pedalling, and detailed discussions on dynamics, fingering, and rests. I highly recommend this book to all the musicians out there, it is simply too important to be overlooked.

This provides a combined reprint of GUIDE TO THE PROPER USE OF THE PIANOFORTE PEDALS and Carreno's POSSIBILITIES OF TONE COLOR BY ARTISTIC USE OF THE PEDALS: while narrow and specific in focus, it will provide the aspiring pianist with some lovely techniques and examples by two masters of the art.

Prof. Kinderman has done Beethoven scholarship a terrific service with this beautiful set of three volumes; the facsimile is gorgeous, the transcriptions appear to be highly accurate and the commentary is both knowledgeable and insightful. Anyone interested in the development of Beethoven's late compositions, especially the Missa Solemnis, will want to have a copy of this first-rate set. Of all of the sketchbook transcriptions released thus far, this one stands head and shoulders above all the rest. As Project Director of The Unheard Beethoven, I've read a lot of Beethoven manuscripts and must say that Kinderman has done an excellent job of puzzling out Beethoven's often impossible handwriting and converting it into something that makes sense to the rest of us. The price is incredibly reasonable for the value that's here as well. I treasure my copy. Mark Zimmer

From this book, readers can learn important lessons about hard-work, respect and achieving your best. Those that did watch the television story will also be rewarded with a truly worthwhile surprise ending.

This is a must-have for the hobby pianist. It contains a varied selection of works of varying difficulty by three of the most famous piano composers of all time. My dad had a copy when I was growing up. I bought myself a copy long before I even bought a piano.
