Not only does this book cover technical aspects of piano playing and is straight forward and easy to read, but it also prepares prospective teachers for real-life challenges such as how to teach handicapped students and students who are determined but have very little confidence, among those other psychologically extra-demanding teaching situations. It equips piano educators with knowledge that they don't teach you in music school and I'd recommend it to anyone who is seriously considering teaching.

Well-organized & comprehensive

In spite of its wide range & depth, this book is a pleasure to read. It can easily serve not only teachers but more mature and advanced students interested in expanding their knowledge, i.e. useful to both the professional teacher and serious amateur.

Great for teachers and students

I purchased this book to expand my teaching arsenal. It proved to be so well organized and comprehensive, I recommended it to several of my more advanced students.
I encourage any teacher who is looking for a good all around reference book to check this one out.

One of the Best Blues Instruction Books

This is one of the best beginning blues instruction books I've found. It teaches a bit of blues theory and provides the basic framework for the blues, but Tricia also provides the beginner with a few blues tunes to play. You can find books with advanced blues songs (from established performers) and you can find books with blues "riffs"....but you won't find many bookes for beginners that have good sounding, playable, blues tunes. Ms. Woods delivers on all fronts.

I'm new to the piano but not to music (guitar). I can read music (a little... but not in 'real time'). This book is excellent. It keeps the techinical music score to a minimum but still gets across the basic of the Blues plus loads of tricks that can be strung together when improvising (as you'd expect). This the way I taught myself rock / blues guitar and it suits me... learn the basics (chords, structures), learn some sacles and add on a few finishing touches. Perfect!

Excellent, Recommended for Adults

I was very rusty, having played piano for over 30 years but not touching a keyboard in a long time. I had just bought a new modern keyboard and needed something to jog my memory with a little theory and yet was interesting and fresh to keep me going.
The DVD is well done and easy to follow and stop. The book is all I could ask for and I appreciate the bits of blues history just as a side note.
There are extra exercises, if you choose, to modulate to different keys and to strengthen your skills along the way, which is something the other books didn't have.
I did a lot of research and comparisons before I picked this set. It's not for a rank beginner. You do need to know how to play some, but if you have played at least a year, get this book and have a good time.

This book is a great investment if you are new to piano and love jazz or are stuck in major/minor boredom and want to look into more exotic chords and scales. I am a drummer/guitarist who wanted to learn more about theory, finally go beyond the "hunt-and-peck" stage on my keyboard, and understand the world beyond the pentatonic scale on my guitar. I feel very enlightened, and especially love the tables that summarize all the key info, and a CD is always a bonus. Enjoy!

After a very long long time away from the childhood piano lessons I once took...I decided to give it try again.
This book was just what I needed to help me get started with confidence. It's clear and easy to follow. I was on the piano and actually playing a bit again in short order. I loved it.

I've sat down at the piano in the past and been completely lost. This book help me find my way back to tinkle the ivory. I highly recommend it as a tool to get you going!

This book was such a great tool in making my first hours "in the saddle", so to speak, fun. Beginning Piano for Adults offers some valuable coaching and training techniques with a variety of musical options. I'd recommend it to any parent, or adult, thinking about trying to overcome their musical challenges.

First, disclaimer... the author, Karl, has taught piano to my daughter, and is a great instructor.

When I heard he had a piano book for adults... and being a guitar/bass/vocalist type... I really wanted to check it out. Well, it's almost as good as having Karl come to your home. It's well written and focuses on the right things, and though I'm not playing piano like Liberace at this point, it's a great way for an adult to learn.

Definitely recommended!

I've just spent an amazing day reading these songs cover to cover. Immense fun for anyone. Witty, clever and moving, it is truly sad Bernstein never got his rightful place in the pantheon of great composers. It is a seat well deserved.

(...)This collection gives us a remarkable cross-section of his work; from On The Town to West Side Story through to rareties from Peter Pan and even Madwoman of Central Park West. For a "Lenny" freak, and for a serious musical theatre lover, this collection is an imperative. Unfortunately, it is currently out of print. Bad move, Boosey. If you are a musical theatre lover, and you can get a copy of this...do so, now!!!

Excellent Sheet Music Collection

Review Date: 2008-06-27
What a great book as well as a great value. One could easily pay much much more by buying sheet music books for 3 different albums to get all the music in this one book. This book contains pieces from Le Onde, Eden Roc as well as I Giorni in it. There are 36 individual pieces of music in this book so even at the standard list price this is a bargain. It will be a long time before I can play most of this music since I'm a beginner but there are some easy pieces as well.

I bought this book and expect to get a lifetime of enjoyment out of playing the songs within.

The most satisfying purchase I've made in a long time!

This piano book by Ludovico Einaudi is full of soothing, relatively easy-to-play classical pieces. I found they could be played fluently without much practice. My friends and family certainly weren't complaining even when I was still playing into the late hours the same day it arrived!

A fantastic buy, or gift. In no way am I dissappointed!

Beautiful music, accurately transcribed

Ludovico Einaudi is not (yet) well known in the United States, but he ought to be. He is my favorite composer, whose work falls in that nebulous genre variously called "neoclassical" or "new age." The music has a minimalistic flair (cf. Philip Glass), although Einaudi's work is much more melodic than Glass's. If you are not familiar with Einaudi's music, order his "Echoes" (greatest hits) CD as an excellent introduction. The sheet music to most, if not all, of the pieces on Echoes is included in this collection, as well as many other pieces.

One of the strengths of this book is that Einaudi himself clearly played a heavy role in writing or editing these transcriptions. They are true, note-for-note renditions of the pieces. They are also heavily annotated in terms of dynamics.

Another very appealing aspect of the book is that Einaudi's music varies quite a bit in terms of difficulty, so there will be something here for players of all ability levels. Some of the easier pieces (e.g., Limbo and Exit) could probably be played by somebody with as little as a few months or a year of piano experience. Some of them are technically very challenging and beyond my current levels (I would call myself an intermediate player).

I would say that roughly half of everything I play is by Einaudi. I will never tire of it.

This book is an excellent resource for those interested in the Broadway belt sound. Most, if not all, of the songs are in the original key, and the arrangements are superb and musically interesting. There is a wide variety of styles from slow and sultry to lively and fun, from old favorites to some you may not have heard -- but once you do you will love. Both sopranos and altos will enjoy this book, however, a few of the songs do have some very low notes. If you can't hit those, there will surely be another piece in the book you'll enjoy.

This is an excellent arrangement. Michael Buble sings with a whole jazz band behind him and this music manages to capture the feel of trumpets etc with just the piano.

Review Date: 2008-04-29
The arrangements in this book are excellent. They are definitely not for the beginning pianist, however. The rhythms are challenging, but spot on.

The vocal melodies are not integrated into the piano part, but are shown as an individual vocal part in the book. This means that if you were to play the songs purely instrumentally, you would not have the melody explicitly heard - the performer would have to combine the vocal line above the grand staff himself/herself.

But let's say you're listening to the CD while you play the arrangements in the book. They are practically exact to the pianist on the CD! It's such a joy to play along that it's as though you are accompanying Michael Buble himself!

I have in the past purchased the Piano/Vocal Books for the self titled Michael Buble album, and for the It's Time album, and each book is better than the one before. As a pianist, I am overjoyed to find every small detail of the songs written in the accompaniment, not to mention this book does not do what so many others do and write the melody in the piano part. I wish all Vocal/Piano books were written in this style!

I have the Broadway Vocal Selections, and that was just fabulous, but this one is by far my favorite. Kander and Ebb (Cabaret) are the kings of Broadway. And this one has my favorite Chicago song, "Cell Block Tango" which i loved on stage and loved even more on screen. These songs are the best, and I hope broadway shows get better and better, because in my opinion, these two gentlemen have set the bar...and it is high!!

Difficult to play, but fun to have!

You don't need to play the piano to enjoy this book. With 8 pages of picture, it's pretty enjoyable. Plus it has the lyrics, and the different stage ending for "cell Block Tango".

The script behind the smash hit broadway show "CHICAGO!". Complete with original cast list, synopsis at the beggining, characters and descriptions, and lyrics/libretto included in the text of the show. A wonderful play that wraps you in the wrath of two young women, Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, in a murder scaldal trying to escape with the help of sleezey lawyer, Billy Flynn. A great read and fantastic musical. Availabily my be difficult as it is out of print (I bought it used) so you can buy it from the publiser, Samuel French online from the website by the same name (samuelfrench.com) Thanks for reading!
