Not perfect, but pretty close...

I think every review book I've read (read a lot, I'm paranoid and a slow learner) has some good points and some weaknesses, but this book and series are very good. It taught me to think about the material and explained it in a way that helped my overall understanding, which the boards are [supposed to be] after. I still had to guess on what seemed like a ton of questions and there's always a new twist they can throw in to make a hard question about a topic you thought you knew, but this series prepared me better than I needed to be - I went up 20 points compared to step 1 and think this book had the biggest role to play in my score improvement. What more can you ask for from a review source?

Loved it!

Great series of case-based review - I strongly recommend all the books in this series after using them before my Step 2 exam. Each volume is short and sweet to keep you from freaking out about all the stuff you don't know that you should...

Explanations are precise and written in easy-to-understand language, with difficult concepts and terms always explained or phrased in a way that makes sense. Lots of photos and x-rays that helped with the figures on the test.

All the right stuff!

If you like case-based reviews (which is how 70% of my exam questions were), this is a great series. Great cases with superb, to-the-point explanations that tell you the high-yield stuff and omit the fluff. Easy to read, lots of pictures and figures, jam packed full of pearls. Definitely check this one out.

Nice case review with indexed cases for ease of use.
I have used this book already as a back-drop for discussions with medical students. It is organized and easy to read. Good pearls.
Wardrop and Liles did a great job.

I'm looking forward to reading these case-based reviews of interesting adult and pediatrics cases. Liles is the program director of one of the best MedPeds residencies in the country and many of the residents and faculty at that program contributed to this book. I've seen a preview of it and it looks great.

Liles is an esteemed doctor and an outstanding teacher (named best teacher in the graduate school at UNC), so the book couldn't come from a better pedigree. The method is right, too. No stodgy textbook, here. Cases are the best source of learning for this book's target audience. A must have resource for the combined med/peds resident, or from either side of the program.

Hilarious reviews of B-Movies done in Joe Bob's initimable style - guaranteed to make you laugh out loud.

Not for the sexually repressed (he often rates movies by the number of "boobs" that are visible), this series of reviews from the Movie Channel's "Drive In Theatre" host's syndicated newspaper column preaches the Drive-In gospel.

Actually, the author is a very sharp man who realized the way to get maximum attention was to adopt a beer guzzling, trailer park living Good Ol' Boy White Trash persona.

The funniest film reviews I've ever read - get this and his first book of reviews "Joe Bob Goes to the Drive-In" (what/where else?!)

Joe Bob's second (to date) collection of drive-in movie reviews is equally as funny as his first. He picks up from the infamous "We Are the Weird" column, which got him tossed off the Dallas Slimes-Herald and out of the El Lay Slimes Syndicate, then goes into his next weekly column (he was picked up by Universal Press Syndicate without ever missing a column). The reviews are often far more entertaining than the films, and his hilarious slice-o'-life segments are some of the best humor pieces out there. This one's a real winner for drive-in fans and people who just like to LAUGH alike!

Joe Bob Briggs is an awesome character. His reviews of "B" movies are usually dead-on accurate and to the point. (He is the only critic next to Ebert that isn't ashamed to like so-called "trashy" flicks. Ths collection of reviews from his newspaper columns is a must read for fans of good ol' drive-in type movies. It also contains Briggs' hysterical monologues on life in Grapevine, TX , as well as his opinions on life.

Four stories are contained in each of the five volumes of this set. The text appears with beautifully detailed colorful pictures. These books will hold a young child's interest, whether used at home or school.

This set of Bible Story books is the best I have ever seen. The pictures are wonderful. The books have stories that are not as commonly found in most children's Bible story books, such as Joash the Boy King and The Borrowed Ax. I had this set of books as a child and I am trying to find a complete set for my own children. I highly recommend this set of books!

I loved these books as a kid, and my kids love them as well. They have lifelike full-spread illustrations and simple language.

Be aware when you are buying that there were two versions published, a 10-volume set with two stories per book published in the 60's, and a 5-volume set with four stories per book published in 1977. Both sets contain the same 20 stories. But if you're putting together your own set, you should be aware which version you are getting.

Best ACT Review Material Available!

Review Date: 2000-04-08
I am a high school instructor who has worked with gifted and college-prep students for fifteen years. Preparing for the ACT is a major concern for most college-bound, high school juniors & seniors.

I have presented extensive ACT workshops to students over the years and have used numerous ACT prep and self-help books. THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST BOOK THAT I HAVE EVER OFFERED TO STUDENTS!

The book is small, concise, and loaded with great information:

a.) Each of the 4 parts of the ACT is broken down into understandable objectives,

b.) Specific types of questions that consistently appear on every ACT are revealed,

c.) Uniquely helpful strategies are presented for each section (along with examples that appear as typcal ACT questions).

This book proves that "GOOD THINGS REALLY DO COME IN SMALL PACKAGES!"

My daughter loves this little book!

Like many high school students, my daughter carries a back pack that is almost as big as she is. This little book gets more use than the bigger ACT book we bought because she carries it around with her and actually uses it. Good idea!

Josh Melrod is a gas and a grove. This cat has serious chops when it comes to writing a story. He just may be the next great american writer no one has ever heard of. Tara Weigh is to non-fiction what Celia Cruz was to Salsa. Give these artists a chance and they will amaze, I promise you that.

At first glance, it might be mistaken for an old Farmer's Almanac-which is a good thing. One of the things that kills me about lit mags (and I read a lot of them) is the way they all wind up looking the same, with a few notable exceptions. This is one of the notable exceptions-not just the look of it, which is beautiful (hand done illustrations grounded firmly in American printmaking traditions)-but page through and you'll find surprising, challenging stories by names you know and names you don't. The first story, by Bob Olmstead, is fantastic-it sets the bar pretty high and the other stories, for the most part, clear it. I'm looking forward to the next issue.

Aimee Bender is one of my favorite writers and I loved her story. She has a wicked sense of humor, but it was touching and sad too. Also really good were the stories by Jonathan Tell and Robert Olmstead (very different from his stories in "River Dogs"). I enjoyed the book as a whole and thought the illustrations were cool and unique.

Great book. Finally, after purchasing many psychiatry books, I settled with this one. Almost all of the questions in the exam are same except for dementias and "Neuropsych tests for Dementias". That has to be covered by you elsewhere otherwise you are all set for the Psych part of ABPN Neurology,

Review Date: 2004-03-09
This book is a superb, concise, up-to-date review of basic physiology in the form of charts, tables, diagrams and illustrations. The book is exceptionally well-organized and focused, which permits ready access to the information. Although designed primarily for medical students, it is also valuable for physicians interested in concise and accurate review information. I found that it provided me with all the basic information that I needed to review for the Boards. This book should be in the library of every physician who is interested in keeping current. Highly recommended!

Although the text contains charts, tables, mnemonics, and fast facts, its strength is its charts. There are a huge number of them, and they are very detailed and well-organized. For example, renal physiology, which is always a challenge, contains some exeptional charts,(specifically, p.312, Summary of Renal Tubular Function). The book also includes relevant anatomy and clinical information - a definite bonus. As with most mnemonics, some are useful, while others are simply good for amusement.

Based on the frequently correct assumption that men and women disagree about "what is funny, romantic, adventurous, and too violent on screen," Jean Warmbold, a film buff and screenplay writer, has compiled this comprehensive listing of great "chick flicks." In other words, here's a collection of descriptions of comedies, romances, thrillers, and classics that women can really warm up to. Or as the author so cleverly puts it in her introduction, "blood relations over bloodbaths, apt wit over slapstick, mindful deed over mindless speed, and strong female characters who are no longer trapped inside a man's imagination or fantasies." Whatever you call it, it's an invaluable guide for movie viewing with your favorite girl!

There's bound to be something a friend can enjoy in this! This book covers all genres of movies, and although men can certainly enjoy it, it does seem to speak to the female population. These are not "chick flicks", but almost all other movie review book are reviewed by men. These reviews by a female are very refreshing. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I have!
