This book is filled with wonderful photos of all the original settlers of this rural Minnesota community. There are many facts and stories to go along with the images throughout the book.

I recommend this for anyone who wants to know more about the community they live in or if you aren't from the area, you will enjoy the historical significance of how this area of Minnesota was settled.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book with my 5 and 7 year old cousins. They especially love the passport with the stickers, and we can't wait until the next book comes out! It was a perfect way to introduce Russia to my cousins, since there is so much of it in the news, and they are always so full of questions! We think we know where the next story takes place, based on the clues that were given at the end of the book.

Robert Bennetts Best Mystery Yet!!

This is the fourth in the series of Mystery novels by Robert Bennett and it is by far the best one yet!! His main character Lanny O'Brian once again leads us through a maze of intregue, romance and suspense, but this time it involves even more excitement, unexpected twists, kidnapping and even murder!!! I could not wait to finish reading the book to see how the plot all unraveled. Mr. Bennett kept me guessing right up to the very end!! Mr Bennett once again provides the reader with a Novel packed full of interesting facts and incrediably detailed insights into his characters personalities and lives. I have come to think of Robert Bennett as a "thinking mans author" and I have never been dissapointed by his books. They also make great gifts for the men in my life!!!!

A breathtaking ride

One of the most consistently engaging historical adventures that I have ever read. A partly fictional yet meticulously researched epic that instantly partners the reader with young Ethan Fraser, a half breed Union courier, working his way through the horrors of the American Civil War. This mutual journey ultimately leads to the vast northern Great Plains in a search among indigenous peoples for his Lakota ancestors. Fully believable plotting, action sequences and rich characters surrounded by masterful storytelling.

Finding the Treasure

It is so rare to find a 500+ page book that is such a good story I don't want it to end but I have to find out what happens. To me, that is finding the treasure, a good, long story that will settle into my very being. Good writing does that every time; genre doesn't matter. I do know much of the country in Following the Eagle but even if I didn't, the distinct imagery of Paulie Jenkins paints it for me. She is a storyteller in any language under any sky. No doubt the book will make a great mini-series, and I will cheer. Yet, when I return for another read (yes, it is one of those books) I'll let Ms. Jenkins tell me the story again.

Following the Eagle by Paulie Jenkins was simply wonderful! Upon reading the first few paragraphs, I found myself immediately transfixed and deeply engrossed. I have never before read such a seamless weave of historical fact and fiction. Characters, events, and happenings (both fictional and non-fictional) are so richly illustrated and brought to life that all appear "real." In my opinion, Following the Eagle is such an exceptional story because it enables the reader to truly feel the characters and share in their unique experiences, relationships, and emotions. It has been a long while since I have enjoyed a story this much or felt the characters so profoundly. I found myself transported to another time and place in the American landscape, exposed to a variety of diverse peoples and relationships, and part of an emotional journey to self-discovery, acceptance and belonging. In closing, Following the Eagles left me craving more - for me, a sign of a great read. As such, I highly recommend it and promise you will not be disappointed. Thank you.

A Journey Worth Taking

This book was written by my sister in law and frankly I read it not
expecting to think as highly of it as I do. What a pleasure it is.
It is simply a book I could not put down or fold on my lap as I took
a small snooze. It combines history and fiction just the way i like it.
Historically believable as it has its time line down during a most
interesting time in American history, the war between the states and the
expansion of the American frontier. The characters met are real and
complex as they deal with change almost overwhelming in an America torn
wide open by war and prejudice, love and hate, fear and desire to be
free of fear.
This is a book I will read again and look forward to.

Serious Business

Following the Eagle is serious business. It offers a multitude of events--well-documented battles and journeys, heroics and stupidities, imprisonment and its brutalities, harrowing escapes and romantic escapades, travesties of justice, scenes of family and tribal loyalties and betrayals, explorations of chartered and unchartered territories. What gives direction to its many diversities is its bearing of witness, Paulie Jenkins' witness. The U.S. owes so much to the years 1863 to 1865, the astutely chosen chronological setting of the action, and Jenkins has invented a character--the "half breed" Ethan Fraser--who organizes and moves the diversities and divisions into a telling story. Ethan is hero, anti-hero, trusted guide, spy, trickster (he fits loosely the "persona" of the Coyote figure of native legend), bungler and wise man. The divided world--north/south, east/west--he inherits and inhabits exemplifies the divided and distraught Republic for which he stands. Serious business in Following the Eagle (not at all the eagle we see stamped on coins) is constantly shifting and always unfinished. Awareness of this, an awareness that all things must change, is the good medicine that Paulie Jenkins offers in her exciting and thoughtful story. Read it.

I was very impressed with Paulie Zink's book on Monkey kung fu. I was interested in many of the movements and this book demonstrated a ton of them. I think Zink's latest book, the "history of monkey kung fu" has more detail on the history of the art, but this book was very informative pictorially.

Excellent, but only in addition to video tapes...

The book by Paulie Zink is without question the finest book (mostly because it's one of only three, at least that I know of in the English language) that discusses in any great detail the history as well as characteristic techniques of the Tai Sheng Pek War style. Each of the 5 character trait monkeys are demonstrated, as are fundamental weapons and self-defense techniques. To truly apply the knowledge within the text, the first 3 videos in Master Zink's Panther Productions series are almost crucial. These videos cover Fundamentals, Classical Forms, and Weapons of the unorthodox but effective monkey style. The first video alone is worth whatever the asking price is, as it contains possibly the best and most comprehensive stretching routine ever captured on video - nearly an hour long! The second video actually demonstrates full forms and their combat applications, not just pieces as does the book. The third video shows in greater detail than the book the many weapons of the monkey system, the most interesting of which I find to be the monkey iron ring. Do yourself a favor - if you're serious about learning about this art - buy the book' if you want to PRACTICE this art - find and buy the videos - they're well worth it!

Fake Monkey

Plagiarism is a crime but still persons have been able to get away while doing it. This is a classic example of plagiarism of pictures, they have even created their own version of the TSPK family tree and inserted themselves. Its such a pity. As a result the real TSPK website has had to be taken down in order to protect genuine TSPK information. I grant the author that he is extremely flexible but his movements are not convincingly 'monkey like'. He needs to watch more videos of Grandmaster Chan Sau Chung and his son Master Chan Kai Leung to see what genuine Tai Shing Pek Kwar looks like. Sorry I have to say that this book is junk.

I am a student of Grandmaster Chan Sau Cheung the real Tai Shing Pek Kwar lineage holder from Hong Kong.
Paulie Zink is a phoney who claims lineage from our system. This book has photos stolen from my Grandmaster's book.
Anyone who has taken real TSPK and has watched Ms Zink's videos can tell he has had no real training in our system.
This book is not work the paper it is printed on!

Rather than addressing the merits of the book, individuals have made rather spurious claims that the monkey kung fu they are learning is the only "real" variety out there. Nonsense.
This is an excellent, informative book and is one of the only books available concerning this particular style. If you are interested in this style, you can safely discount the individuals who make boastful claims concerning themselves(so much for the humility that is supposed to go along with the art) while at the same time slandering Master Zink.
