A superb book for anyone interested in Reich

Wilhelm Reich was many things in his lifetime- a student of Freud, a political activist, a research scientist, and an inventor. His work was decades ahead of its time and is finally being rediscovered and reevaluated by the public. If, like me, you are interested in Reich and his work, you might want to check out a novel called We All Fall Down, by Brian Caldwell. it draws heavily on Reich's theories, particularly Listen Little Man and The Mass Psychology Of Facism. It's a great introduction to Reich's work and the entire novel draws heavily on his theory. It's very interesting watching an author explore his theories in a fictional setting. Well worth reading.

Who would you be if you were really you?

Try this on for size: What do you love to do when no one's looking? What would your dream life look like if you could follow your heart instead of your to-do list? Do you see your life as an open-ended gift from God who wants you to passionately live it?

The truth of God doesn't want you to live someone else's life--or other's expectations for you. He wants you to express life through your unique gifts and abilitites. Passion on Purpose gives you permission to find yourself and all God has created you to be. More than simply figuring out your spiritual gifts, it's a freeing exploration into discovering your true self.

Hear what God has to say about your life as you:

***differentiate what God has to say about your life as you
***identify your spiritual strengths and find areas that fulfill your passions
***learn to get the right things right--and say no to what's wrong for you
***create a life that counts through your time, your activities, and your relationships

Aided by jounal exercises, goal-setting questions, and plenty of reflective content, Deborah Newman's bondage-breaker will kindle a holy passion to be wholly used in your God-given purpose.

A play on life gone awry at an all boys boarding school
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2000-03-29
Ted Blain, prefessor at Woodberry Forest School for Boys, knows what he's talking about when it comes to the situations disturbing his young students minds, and understands intimately the atmosphere they live and breathe in. With this knowledge in hand, he has sculpted the Montpelier School for Boys where some unexpected events have thrown the campus into turmoil.

I won't spoil any of the juicy details here, but you won't be bored at any point by the action and suspense that runs through the five acts of this play. However, this ability to master suspense and drama is not the most impressive shown by Mister Blain. Even with the turmoil, he manages to show the ability of Montpelier Students to continue with their everyday lives, even in the midst of tragedy. Whether it be problems with girlfriends, displeasure at teachers, or the search for some hidden secret, the boys in this book live their lives while at the same time coping with the danger lurking on their campus.

Just like the rest of us, the boys have no clue who the real villain is until his drastic unveiling (or should I say unveining?) at the very end of the play, yet they are able to continue in their paths, unlike us the audience who is enraptured by the twists, turns, and tragedy of this magnificent novel.

The Passion Play at Oberammergau
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-01-21
This volume is not a "translation" of the historic uncensored Oberammergau script, per se, but is, instead, an early 20th century English-Language descriptive account of the Passion Play at Oberammergau as compiled by an observer who saw the play in 1910. A reading of the actual script of the Passion Play - or really of any play or any modern-day motion picture whatsoever - can be quite dry. The words of a script do not always capture the nuances of the action onstage or the elements of a scene. Simply put: a simple script is nothing like viewing an actual play or a film, no matter how dramtic nor no matter how eloquent the words spoken.

However, this rendition of the Passion Play is unique. Not only does it accurately reflect the traditional script of the play, but it also incorporates verval imagery to describe what is happening in the play itself. In short, it is almost like reading a novel, and a thrilling, colorful and epic one at that. If truth be told, there is probably no other descriptive account of any sustantial play so completely told as this volume.

Thanks to intense pressure from Jewish critics and their "politically correct" allies, the traditional script of the Passion Play was quite substantially altered by the time of the 2000 presentation. Here, for the historical record, in the very words of the Oberammergauer's chief tormentors, the whip-wielders of the ADL, are the descriptions of the corruptions that were incorporated under pressure.

* Many characters of the new script do not appear as Jews grabbing for money, but as simple citizens of the city of Jerusalem;
* Hebrew names are mixed with Greek names, representing different sectors of the Jewish society;
* Some characters like Dathen, the merchant, who was the liason between the chief priest, Caiphas, and Pilate, the Roman governor, are not mentioned in the new script;
* The negative character of "the Rabbi" has been eliminated;
* Jesus is called "Rabbi" stresing Jesus'"Jewishness";
* The term "Old Testament" is replaced by the term "Hebrew Bible";
* The phrase from Matthew 27:25, "the blood be upon us," has been taken out:
* A reference to the disappearance of Judaism because of Jewish denial of Jesus has been removed;
* The crowd before Pilate is now divided between those who are for and against Jesus;
Judas has been de-demonized; he comes across more humanly now, rather than a stereotyped figure who, in Christian history, has too often been easily identified in a negative manner with Judaism. The very similarity of the names, Judas and Judaism, unfortunately lend itself to this deliterious identification;
* The term "Pharisee" has been eliminated from the text whenever the opponents of Jesus came to the fore. This, too, is an important change. For the term "Pharisee" has, over the centuries, been unwarrantedly loaded with oppobrium and, at the same time, often closely identified with Jews and Judaism in a negative manner;
* Jesus Says a Blesing in Hebrew.

This hard to find book is a must read for any Purdue basketball fan. Mark Montieth follows one of Gene Keady's best teams through an entire season. Fans familiar with the Troy Lewis, Everett Stephens, Todd Mitchell, Three Amigos era will greatly enjoy this book because it acts as a time capsule.

Hopefully there will be another book written about a Keady Purdue team in the future.

Facinating story of the forward thinking Leon Levavasseur
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-03-01
I recommend this book to anyone interested in the early years of aviation. It is clear that the author has gone to great lengths to document, as accurately as possible, the career of Leon Levavasseur, one of early aviations most forward thinkers.
The lines of the Antoinette have always facinated me. It's tapered wing, slender fuselage, and tail form that would appear equally at home on Pterosauria, are aesthetically pleasing. The book is packed with excellent photos revealing the details of this facinating flying machine, the engine that powered it, and the people who flew it.

I was also drawn to the book to learn more about the Monobloc design and to answer the question, "just who was Antoinette?"

Enjoy it!

A Passion to Build

Review Date: 2008-01-17
Anil Malhotra's Passion to Build was amply rewarded by his outstanding accomplishments. From his earliest days he excelled. Perhaps the most telling statement in his text is not in the description of his work in building India's oil mining industry, nor in his work in the Philippines or Vietnam bringing electricity to the villages. Rather it is his philosophy towards his task whatever it might be. It is not enough to be creative, rather, achievement is built on innovation. Anil Malhotra's is a story of a life of contribution and accomplishment built upon both innovation and creativity. I highly recommend this memoir.

Helpful and Encouraging in its Healing Process

The book is riveting as Echo walks thru her own personal healing process - which is deep and wrenching and ultimately successful in many ways - emotionally, physically, and mentally. You are encouraged to do your own walkthru of your life, facing head-on your childhood experiences, teenaged years, and adult relationships, addictions, depression and other difficulties. As you progress through your past, your healing should proceed over time using the process she has laid out for you. I found that many of the experiences she shared matched my own past and I can only hope I can deal with those issues as well as she has. With this book, I have a chance to try it on my own or work with my therapist. This book is discontinued but worth finding a used copy.
