One of the best technically written books I've read in a long time. The author pays close attention to detail and never leaves you hanging wondering why any publisher would pay good money to print the book. This book is worth every dine spent on its preparation to bring it to the public .. . and so is this author well deserving of high praise. I can't wait until she releases her next great novel. Well worth the read!!

This book features cases from the year 1900 all the way to 2005 presented in a black and white newspaper-esque fashion. Sort of like headlines you would see on the front page of a newspaper. It has photos for almost every case, even the ones from the year 1900, 1910's, 1920's and so on...very rare find, very unique and a good source of information.
I havent heard of many of the old cases but they were the top stories from back in the day- The cases that made history. It didn't have every single newsworthy crime but they got a lot of it. A lot of them are really old but they are still interesting. Also features the new cases. A very good book for the true crime lover. Recommended.

From media reactions to social and legal issues raised by these crimes, Crimes Of Passion makes for an intriguing coverage.

I received this book as gift from our friends on a Princess Cruise (they were nice enough to have it signed by the Chef de Partie, Chef de Cuisine and several of our friends in the dining room). It's a beautiful keepsake - a marvelous lesson in menu design - and a reminder of how to make and enjoy great food. The photos are beautiful - as much a lesson in presentation as helpers for what the recipe should actually look like when it's done. You'll learn favorites such as Beef Wellington, Baked Alaska (easier than you think), Tiramisu, Reindeer Chili, Black Bean and Lobster Soup, and more. There are also a few basic recipes in the back that will help you with the foundations needed for the advanced recipes. Anyone with a taste for cooking - that enjoys the better things in life and the time needed to deliver them - will love this experience. It's a great gift and perfect for the person in your life who needs a little cooking therapy. Must have!

Per back cover: "A potent magnetism drew her to Egypt ... Robyn Douglas, Ph.D. candidate in ancient languages, was deeply moved by the mysterious desert land. She felt she was home at last -- doubly so when she met Sayed al-Rashad, the dizzyingly attractive archaeologist she would be working with. He obviously didn't share her reaction. Instead he pegged her as a starry-eyed American coed who, like many other before her, would probably fall in love with him to the detriment of their work. Robyn faught the powerful response she felt whenever Sayed came near her. But she couldn't fight the inner voice that whispered this man was her destiny ..."

The Columba Press often presents wonderful, short volumes for contemplation, reflection and spiritual growth, and this volume by Matthew Byrne is no exception. This book follows in some ways the same story that the film 'The Passion of the Christ' followed, save that this follows directly from the biblical witness of the Gospel of Luke, from the feast of the Last Supper (Luke 22) to the crucifixion and burial of Jesus (Luke 23).
It is somewhat sobering to realise that this story, all-important to most if not all Christians throughout the world and throughout history, is contained in a mere two chapters of Luke (with parallels, of course, in other gospels; Matthew and Mark also take only two chapters each for the story). Byrne does not try to compare the gospel stories here -- the reader is left to do so (or not) on her or his own. It is not intended, as per the author's own admission, as a critical exegesis or scholarly investigation, but rather a reflection on the feelings and insights that derive from the story, with some attention given to historial, political and cultural issues around the text. These six chapters originated from a series of radio broadcasts, expanded somewhat to take advantage of the greater flexibility of print media.
Byrne has a gift for description. Perhaps the fact that radio broadcasts had to paint visual images in the imaginations of the listeners helped Byrne to craft the text. He goes into good detail about the events and people without overpowering the reader with unnecessary detail. He introduces information to fill in the gaps, and gives possible explanations about what people could be thinking at different times in the narratives, but always stops short of insisting that his interpretation, or any other, must be the one followed.
Byrne's writing is clear and concise, interesting and broadly drawn. While the text lacks a certain depth academically, it is certainly a useful text for devotional and bible-study purposes. One could easily incorporate the six chapters here into a six-week series during Lent, looking toward the event of Good Friday.

The eloquent interpretation of Tocqueville's Democracy in America that is Professor Janara's work, is definitely going to become one of the most pivotal feminist discussion of the classic. The intricate relationship between individuals within the society that Janara synthesizes from Tocqueville's work breathes much needed fresh air among all the discussions produced over the years. The effort of the writer shines through the immaculate prose as well as the cogent, crystal-clear organization, which makes this book enjoyable for as a general interest piece and an indispensible guide for all scholars of Tocqueville. Arguments are carefully laid down and well-juxtaposed at all times throughout the book; the dialectical nature is sure going to keep readers turning the pages. A 5-star absolute must-have for those who study Tocqueville as well as any who wish to read more in the fields of feminism and of political science. Bravo!
