Unusual book about an important subjectReview Date: 2000-05-09
What a pleasant surprise to open this book and find...an essay on Whitman. And one on D.H. Lawrence, and then lots on some people I had never heard of, but boy, they sounded intruiging.
This book is a scholar's dream, and David Guy approaches his subject, sex, and his setting for it, spirituality, with a scholar's diligence, a true researcher's obsession. Whitman, Lawrence, Alan Watts, these are all perhaps predictable choices for a book like this if you consider Guy's approach. But an essay on Marco Vassi, pulp pornographer, bathhouse aficianado and paramour of sex queen Annie Sprinkle? Well, as Guy says, if you want to really research the field, you look to the experts, people who have gone to the edge and come back to tell the tale.
Guy divides the book into three parts: a true confessional (this part might make you look at your normally sedate husband in a new light), a look at the trail-blazers of the sex-spirit link, and an introduction to some folks who are perhaps the unsung heroes of the healing arts world, alive and well and doing their thing (alas all on the West Coast).
You know, you could write an encyclopedia about the way sex is pushed down in our country, made into the stuff of sleazy porn shops, peep shows, strip clubs, and curb-side pickups. And you can easily find the how-to tantric sex manuals, and try to get your aura flowing as well as all those other body juices. Here is a book that serves as a bridge. Can you consider a former stripper and sexual escort as a spiritual healer? Well, yes. Guy does, and by the time we're finished with his book, we do too.
And while you're at it, pick up Leaves of Grass again. You'll read it in a whole new light.

Thought-provoking, important workReview Date: 2007-09-06
The stories are fascinating, sometimes tragic and sometimes humorous, authored by a woman who grew up in England's West Country, immersed in the specific locations as well as familial and local legends. What makes this well-researched book so extraordinary is Angela Thompson Smith's rare psychic abilities. She utilized her uncommon, experienced remote viewing skills and her brilliant bio-mind to see into the past at different times to sense the variation in the way of life and in historical circumstances that influences us still.
The book is more than just a tribute to our flexible ability to adapt as humans; it is a forerunner of a new, superior way of understanding our mostly forgotten past.

A great addition to the Pakistani literary scene.Review Date: 2003-05-30
Against a backdrop of destruction, where the very economy of the town is under threat (due to the insects' voracious consumption of hard currency), the residents of Topee Mohalla begin to come to life. A royal chaos ensues as boundaries are broken, old fools are made, dreams indulged, young wives chased, roaring affairs conducted and overhand plots are hatched. At the eye of the storm, Salar Jang, an eccentric septuagenarian with a fortune to bequeath, embarks upon an increasingly bizarre courtship of the indomitable and sexually voracious Madame Firdousi, much to the dismay of his only heir and daughter. And as the pests set to with their pincers, Purana Shehr flounders in Shakespearian farce in the heat of post-monsoon Pakistan.
About the writer:
Musharraf Farooqi was born in 1968 in Hyderabad Pakistan. He worked as a journalist in Karachi and started the literary magazine Cipher. He has translated the poetry of modern Urdu poet, Afzal Ahmed Syed, and is currently working on the English translation of the Urdu classic Dastan-e Amir Hamza. Salar Jang's Passion is his first novel.

Interesting and thought provoking.Review Date: 2008-06-23
The author claims that this is an 'absolute' chronology. Some might think that an 'absolute' chronology is impossible, but again, it is worth consideration. In my opinion although the claim for 'absolute' is made and looks good on paper, I am still in the camp of this being a 'standard' chronology, but it is a giant leap in the right direction.
A crux of this work is the Sabbath resurrection. My personal position (at present) is a Thursday to Sunday view, but this does not really detract from the main thrust of the chronology. The argument presented is well thought out and worthy of consideration. But, don't think that the author's view of the Sabbath resurrection voids the entire chronology, it doesn't. There is lots of information besides that is interesting for those with other persuasions and the Sabbath argument is a refreshing change from the Friday to Sunday viewpoint.
But the real gem of the author's work is the presentation of the chronological charts. Other Biblical chronology charts pale in comparison with these charts. A lot of work has been put into them. The information is presented in a clear and colourful way with the pertaining Scriptures themselves quoted directly on the charts themselves. This is BY FAR the best charting I have seen in a work on Chronology and raises the bar on chronological presentation.
I like books that get me thinking and this one is one of them. A question I have asked myself while studying (that needs further investigating) is what is the impact on the chronology if the first year is 4141 BC?
Informative, interesting, fascinating, thought provoking and sometimes challenging to ones assumptions, I found this book (and continue to find it) a great addition to my reading and studying material. Well worth obtaining.
review of "the scroll"Review Date: 2008-02-27
If you love studying the Scriptures "to show yourself approved" then this book is worth your time. If you are interested in a "Hebrew" perspective of Scripture, or just are curious about how Jesus (Yeshua) could be in the grave 3 days AND 3 nights (from Friday to Sunday???) or if you love to study calendar dates of important historical events/people, or if you have a need to put present/future events into perspective with the backing of God's Word, then you'll want to order this book. I refer to it again and again, for reference, for encouragement, and for just plain great information! I really recommend "The Scroll of Biblical Chronology."

WONDERFUL CONCLUSION TO THE TRILOGY!Review Date: 2004-02-06
When he continued his search for the head of stealing babies organization he worked with Manny Sanchez, his undercover operative only to learn that the elusive perpatrator may be part of the Texas governing body.
His good friend, Travis Bennett introduced him into the political group for which Jill Bennett worked. Only to find that she has a ring on her finger.
He was shocked to find that he still suffered from an overwhelming attraction to this woman he had loved intensely ten years ago. At 30, she was still as beautiful as ever, even after having a child.
Jill found that the Reid of today, at 34, was a more masculine, powerful, attractive man than 10 year ago. She couldn't afford to get involved with him, lest he find out her secret.
Yet Reid was not about to blow his cover, so he had a few lies to tell his friend and Jill. In the meantime, he called in Manny Sanchez to do a bit of computer hacking to help locate his probable suspect. Boy, was he in for a shock!
Jill's susposed fiance, Bill, who wanted a cold-blooded, political marriage inadvertantly set up the chain of events that leads up to Reid and Jill giving into temptation.
Andy helped settle the difference between Jill and Reid and to teach them that where love is, pride does not count.
Excellent story - wonderful characters -- great conclusion to the Operation: Rock-a-Bye
Definitely recommended --M -- Maybe a keeper for most readers.
A Hot, Passionate Reunion StoryReview Date: 2002-10-05
Even though there is still a strong attraction, Jill wrongly believes Reid ran out on the eve of their wedding. It's still painful and she continues to hide the fact that Andy is his son.
This is a hot, passionate reunion story that keeps the tension building as the two former lovers untangle their misunderstandings and deceptions. Linda Conrad has written a great book to tie up her Operation Rock-a-bye trilogy and I look forward to reading her next series due out next year.

Variety is the Spice of Erotic Romance!Review Date: 2007-06-22
RAE MONET returns with "Lone Wolf Three" and her appealing Wolf Warriors. The serious minded Wolf Warrior, Lakota Blackthorn has been sent to negotiate an squabble over planetary land politics with young and opinionated rebel Leader, Taban Zias. Taban meets his match in Lakota, but soon comes to realize her steadying influence makes her his perfect mate--but convincing Lakota is another matter. Monet's characters crackle with life and an emotional realism that too many erotic romances miss for the sake of "heat". In my opinion, Rae Monet is a writer worth watching!
LINDA GAYLE's, "Heart Full of Stars", tells the high stakes story of a Fanta Rae, a lounge singer on the run from an alien slave trader who refuses to acknowledge her hard-won freedom. With her transport broken down, she is stranded at a Mars Outpost with the first human man she's seen in nine years--but ex marine Alex Decker is still mourning over the loss of his family any years ago. Fanta's entrance into his life rocks his world in more ways than one. Reading like a full length novel, this novella boasts a fully realized plot and a tender, satisfying ending.
LARISSA IONE's,"Flesh to Fantasy", paints a contemporary backdrop for loner game geek, Kelsa to escape the uncontrollable pain of the real world in exchange for virtual one that leaves her captain of her heart. Easy going paramedic, Trent agrees to enter Kelsa's world of erotic fantasy so that he can turn their relationship into one of real world pleasures. A fun, fast moving romp.
CYNTHIA EDEN's, "The Wolf's Mate", finds Kat Hardy's life in danger. When sexy wolfman, Michael Morlet rescues her in a dark alley, he realizes he's found the lifemate he's been yearning for. Somehow he must earn Kat's trust, and convincer her that she is destined to be his lifemate. Problem is, someone is trying to kill Kat,and danger lurks around every sexy corner. A fun, sometimes hilarious romp, the hunky and ardent Michael Morlet is a wolfman readers won't soon forget.
