A great fairy tale!

I bought this book at the Salvation Army and it was the best 37 1/2 cents I've ever spent! I noticed there was only one review and couldn't help but add my comments as well. The review could have been a fluke but I am here to tell you it was dead-on. The main characters were likeable just as the bad guys were ones you loved to hate. There is another love interest towards the end of the book that was icing on the cake. The bad guys get what the deserved in the end and the good guys live happily ever ever. A true fairy tale!

This was a wonderful story that I thoroughly enjoyed. It saddened me that the fairy tale had to end. Brage was a magnificient character. He was fierce as he was gentle and strong as he was sweet. I also loved Dynna's character. She was innocent (in perspective) and very generous as she was beautiful. I've read the book now 18 times (after today) and recommend it to everyone. Although there was a bit a violence, the love that so passionately ignites between Brage and Lady Dynna outweighs it greatly. All in all, a wondeful read and delight!!!

A Dream of Passion

Review Date: 2006-08-04
PASSION, translated fearlessly by Tamara Soban, brings together a large number of short tales by the Slovenian poet and arts activist Brane Mozetic. Most take up sexual themes, often from a first person narrator, often enough to make you think that Brane Mozetic's probably had more sex than you, me, and the next fifty-five guys you see on the street. It's a memorable sort of love, hard and cold like the chambers of a revolver, but individual moments are warm and tender, though not so many as the shocking encounters Brane or his surrogate "I" experience on the streets, beaches and bars of Ljubljana, the sex capital of the Balkans.

In "Gym," for example, our hero encounters a mysterious, possibly drug-addicted young man he calls "Z." Many of these guys have only initials for names, which gives them a cleverly constructed anonymity, as though (even though they are fictional characters) they must be protected from themselves and from our knowledge of their bodies. "Z. was a gym teacher," the story begins. "I bumped into him in a bar, I almost raped him." The two men go home together and spend a pleasant weekend, but then things turn grim when Z. petulantly rejects our hero, which causes him to fly into a rage, the sort of murderous rage Othello displayed towards Desdemona. In another story, our boy is accosted by a group of street toughs who force him into oral sex, and then, after he escapes, trauma sets in and he goes out and buys a series of cucumbers which he forces (one at a time) into his rectum until blood spurts out of his sphincter. In this way we see how victims of sex crimes sometimes take on the rituals of brutality and economy that have caused them enormous pain. When his rapists return, they continue to sodomize him, dipping into his anus "dunking them in me like bread in wine."

It isn't always pretty and at times gets pretty morbid, but if you want a walk on the wild side of Maribor, Velenje, or Celje I can recommend no harder-hitting nor more beautiful a book than Mozetic's PASSION.

If you haven't heard of Brane Mozetič, then it's time to wake up - and this book will be quite a rude awakening. Throughout the last two decades, Mozetič has emerged as one of the most controversial public figures in Slovenia, nearly single-handedly launching the gay rights movement that has spread like a wildfire across the countries of the former Eastern Bloc. All while pursuing an art that dares to explore the darkest aspects of queer life in the urban milieu, a personal and confrontational ars poetica fraught with pain, compassion, desire and delirium. In Passion, Mozetič nosedives into the banal only to discover the violence lingering just below the surface - a violence he then fearlessly explodes, shards of truth flying everywhere. In spite of its visceral evocations, however, Passion's most shocking accomplishment is its emotional honesty. Savagely funny, depraved in its excesses, Passion is the portrait of a loony bin seldom explored in literature; it's called real life.

This book is fast pace and right to the point. It talks about love, passion and pain; what most of us will do to get it. It talks about confusion in the lesbian community. And the ending wasn't happily ever after, which is apart of life and that's what makes Passion and Pain so real.

This was the first romance novel I ever read. I read this as a teenager and have read it many times in the years since. It is an epic tale set in the Civil War era that follows a family through the good and bad times of several generations. The characters are well-developed and deep and the story flows well through the very end of the book.

My mom lent me her copy of this book when I first read it and her copy was about as battered and worn as they come. The cover was made of contact paper and there was a page missing. This is her very favorite romance novel, though, so I bought a hard cover copy of this book for her for Christmas and she was absolutely thrilled. It's nice to be able to find the old favorites!

I really enjoyed this book, a nice change from the usual
romance type novel... The characters seemed more human, and
authentic. This is a 479 page book that covers the life span of
several generations of a family. Set in pre and post civil war
times, we see the hardships and the courage of people of that
time period. Also the bravery of one woman who stands up
for what she believes in. There is a lot of sorrow, but in the
end you have a good feeling. It deals with the subject of
slavery, pro and con.......as viewed in the time period
mentioned.

The Sequel to this book, Is.... "Desire and Dreams of Glory...

From the queen of French erotica two marvellous classics

Anne-Marie Villefranche's books have been published and re-published as stand alone novels, and, most vexingly as mutliple book novels such as this book Passion D'Amour, with, a new title that has a tendency to obscure the original titles. So, if your are like moi, an afficionado of erotica the chances are
excellent that you will have multiple copies of this authors' book ..... that may be the bad news, but, the good news is that her books are fabulous enough that you'll always have a copy nearby to read when you want to while away solitary moments.

This book has two full novels....
1) Palisir d'Amour 2) Joi d'Amour

In Plaisir the author takes us on a rollercoaster ride of 10 short stories with different characters, plots and settings. Each story of approximately 20 to 30 pages is so well written and so well developed that the reader does not feel cheated after finishing the story and demnding more. Each story has its own climax (so to say) and the characters are so well developed to make the tale viable.

The author very masterfully is able to tell a story without having to get into lengthly set-up before the story even begins. She does this by very deftly tying all the characters together as the sons, daughters, wives etc of a large well known and libidinous Parisienne family in the 1920's .... absolutely marvellous ....

To give you a flavour of the book, in the first story, Jeanne Takes A Lover' we find the young Christophe Brissard (some think this is the author's family) meeting the very married Jeanne Vernay (another well known Parisienne family) at a family dinner. Jeanne visits Christophe in his bedroom, after everyone went to bed, and our two lovers waste little time in tasting the fruits of the flesh.

Jeanne however keeps warning Christophe that during his lovemaking he takes her to heights she has never been before and she is very scared. Their secret encounters continue while Christphe and jeanne slowly teach each other to let loose their inhibitions.

In Joie d'Amour we find a similar number of scrumptios short stories. 'A Lesson for Bernard' we find a young Bernard Gaillard meeting a married Simone Lebrun at a Brissard family dinner. Since taking a lover is such a very very French thing to do Simone and Bernard eventually find themselves together in bed where Simone is more intersted in using her hands to make love to Bernard than other parts of her body. Although she gives in to Bernards requirment to complete the sex act, Simone simply explains to him that this does not give her the ultimate
pleasure she yearns for, but, she would just rather play with him using her hands. The young Bernard is so disconcerted he seeks the advice of more learned friends to be able to reconcile Simones wants and wishes to his desire to continue the clandestine affair....

Wonderfull works of erotic literature I WILDLY recommend ANY of Vellefranches books as being erotica that can be read over and over for years to come ... to date in my mind (and I've read a lot of erotica) no other author even comes close ....

Anything by Anne-Marie Ville Franche

All her books are delightful, and esp. wonderful for women who like erotica with well drawn characters and some actual plot. They're short stories with reoccuring characters, and remind me of Guy de Maupassant in some ways. The books have a light hearted, playful approach to their characters' erotic adventures and personal foibles. Many of the books are out of print, but still not hard to find. Buy them all, you'll treasure and re-read them many times. The only other books I like as well -- as a good combination of titillation and enthralling writing --are the Sleeping Beauty books by Anne Rice and an Anonymous book called Maid's Night In. The Ville-Franche books, however, are more romantic and less kinky. An excellent choice for a woman just discovering erotica, as they are accessible and show women playing and often besting men in the games of love.

Passiflora growers who find the tags affixed by nurseries and discount stores to be either sadly lacking in information -- or just plain wrong -- will want this book on their shelves. Its photographs, taxonomy data, history, and cultural information -- all coupled with its reader-friendly presentation -- make this a must-buy for the enthusiast.

I was recommeded this book by an evangelist before I went on a 2 week trip to Malawi, Africa. Boy was it a good and fast read. There are so many things that he mentions in his book that you would never know or comprehend unless you you were actually there. But more than that, his heart for Africa is so powerfully illustrated that you begin to develop a heart for Africa also.

A Passion for Africa is a missionary's memoir of his final travels into the interior of Zambia, as well as visits to Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, and Angola. Presenting a vivid picture of bustling nations with their fair share of problems, including floods, famines, fuel shortages and roaming so-called war veterans, A Passion for Africa tells of one man's striving with his soul, his unheeded call for more missionaries to come and assist his work, and the day when he must tell all the African people he has come to know and love goodbye. Black-and-white photographs illustrate this compelling firsthand testimony.

Accurate texts, good pictures

The quality of art books ranges from poor to excellent. In this case, we have one that fulfills all most important requirements. For one, although some snobs describe it as "pretty pictures', the reproductions are accurate, and their size is good. I consider a very important quality for a art book to present well sized, good quality reproductions. Although this is not a treatise about the subject (and I don't believe it should be), the texts are very accurate, while at the same time they are short and concise. This is what a book should provide, as opposed to being the space to host infinite, boring, and cryptic prolusions by some scholar. Last but not least, the structure is very good. Overall, a very good book.

Deftly compiled by a team of imminent scholars, A Passion For Asia: The Rockefeller Legacy is an in-depth, informative study of the Rockefeller family's strong dedication to providing Americans with an understanding and appreciation for Asian art, politics, history, society and culture. Introducing the reader to the intricate collection of Asian art and culturally influenced decor, A Passion For Asia: The Rockefeller Legacy elaborates on the actual Asian culture itself, as well as detailed essays and writings on the actual art itself. A Passion For Asia: The Rockefeller Legacy has been presented on the fiftieth-year anniversary of the founding of the Asia society, and for that reason, is very strongly recommended to all readers seeking a better understanding of the Asian perspective of art, culture, politics and ethics, as well as those who are engaged in the study of general Asian society.

I am about halfway through knitting one of the short-sleeved sweaters, and I can't wait to finish it and wear it! I'm an intermediate knitter, and this is my first real project with cables. Even though I'm using a different kind of yarn, it's been easy to pick up and follow the pattern. I've been amazed at how beautiful this sweater is coming out! I'm certainly learning some new cabling patterns and techniques as well. Most of the patterns in this book use more than one type of cable and they are all unique. Each one has big color photos of the finished product so you can see what they'll look like. The clothes look beautiful, and I've already picked out which pattern I'm going to try next. You won't find any of these clothes being mass-produced and sold in the stores. I'm looking forward to wearing this unique top that I made to fit me, and showing it off. :)

I received this cookbook a few weeks ago and immediately poured through it, enjoying the story of coffee through the words of author Patrica McCausland-Gallo. She is from Coloumbia and you can tell how much she loves her homeland. Every recipe I have tried has been outstanding. I am a meringue freak and the Coffee Meringue Disks are wonderful. The Three-Milks Coffee Delights are incredible - a combination of two traditional Latin American recipes. Another new favorite is the Asparagus with Savory Coffee Syrup. I'm so excited to try many other recipes from this unique cookbook.
