When my daughter brought this book home from school, I never expected to laugh my head off--which I did! Our whole family got a big kick out of it. It's a delightful story that's all the more funny because it really happened. If you've ever lived in a small mid-West town, you'll find it especially charming and familiar. Little Ruthie tries so hard to please her parents and they keep their cool even in the most trying circumstances. A good lesson for all of us! Thank you, Dr. Peterson!

I bought this book to get ideas for a dinner party I was having, and found so many recipes that I will also just want to make for myself. Every aspect of your meal is covered in this book, from the salad to the beverage to dessert. It includes meals from seemingly every nationality, many different meats and seafoods, even vegetarian. The best thing about this cook book is the pictures, they show a picture of every meal and step by step instructions, with photos! I absolutely love this cookbook, and recommed it to any one who likes to entertain!

FunTime Family Night--Dip It and a Movie!

After searching EVERYWHERE for a recipe for ratatouille that children could at least TOLERATE to go along with a fun home movie night--I found this gem of a book. There are several excellent dips using common ingredients like lime and cilantro, one "home made" onion dip that--frankly--we liked the soup mix kind better AND the ratatouille receipe! His good suggestions included cutting up the veggies into good size pieces (about 1/2 ") and roasting them first. That keeps their color and it doesn't turn into a grey mush. Additionally, because this is FUN, the kids can actually pick out "suspect" veggies because they can see them. Typically they get so engrossed in the movie and it's love of fine food they can be persuaded to at least try a new veggie. Best of all the sidebars offer many good suggestions for non-traditional dippers--like toasted whole grain pita triangles to make a meal out of a fun time.

Superb study of Labour's dirty war and dirty politics

Steven Kettell, a lecturer in the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick, has written a superb study of the Labour government and its assault on Iraq.
In late 1997, the Joint Intelligence Committee reported that the `vast majority' of Iraq's WMD had been eliminated by the international inspectors. In October 2001, Blair told the Observer that Iraq was `still trying to acquire' a WMD capability. That meant, as Colin Powell admitted, that Iraq did not actually have `any significant capability with respect to WMD'. Yet the government still lied to us that Iraq was a threat to the Middle East, to Britain and to the world.
The government tried to blame the war on the French government. It also smeared those who tried to tell the truth about its warmongering, especially the BBC and Dr David Kelly. As cover for its illegal aggression, it cynically invoked the roadmap to peace in the Middle East, lying that war in Iraq would bring peace in Palestine.
Instead, the war has brought carnage and chaos to Iraq and to Palestine, and also to London. Two thirds of the British people think that the 2005 London bombings were linked to Britain's role in the war on Iraq, a view that Blair called `nonsense'. Even MI5's Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre acknowledged that Iraq had become `a dominant issue' for Islamic extremists and warned that the war acted `as a focus of a range of terrorist related activities in Britain'.
The attack on Iraq was clear evidence that the British state is undemocratic. The Labour government, Kettell concludes, has used "a depoliticised neoliberal framework, unrelenting media manipulation, rigorous internal party discipline, and a distinctly presidential style of government." The parliamentary vote on the proposed aggression showed that MPs represent the state to the people, not the people to the state. The ruling class uses its state to rule in defiance of majority opinion on the war, as on the issues of immigration, of protecting our industry and of so much else.
The attack on Iraq was no aberration. It was typical of a secretive, ruthless, greedy and arrogant ruling class which has waged wars across the world, from Indonesia and Malaya in the 1940s to Iraq in the 2000s. The attack on Iraq was only different because we have, at last, started to rumble their lies.

I really thought this book is aborable. Not only me but more importantly our kids. As wonderfully cute as the Winnie the Pooh characters are, the book lends itself to the same. The simple everyday life of Pooh and his friends leads them into everyday situations that cause us to use are manners. I, we recommend this book highly.

Does God Have a Party? Is a rhetorical examination on Hezbollah. A group considered terrorist by The West, but seen as the Liberators of South Lebanon by the Middle East.
In her book Dr. Kahil gives the reader insight in the foundations and basic beliefs of Hezbollah. She does this on the experience from growing up in the South of Lebanon. Her youth as she describes was marked by war yet in this book Dr. Kahil is able to take distance from her own culture and she has a critical look towards The Party of God.
I like this book because it is neither propaganda for the West nor propaganda for the Middle East. It is a cultural bridge that will play an important role in light of the war during the summer of 2006.

My daughter a beginning reader read this without difficulty. The book has no slang or words my daughter sometimes has trouble with in the "All Aboard Reading" series. She also really enjoyed looking at the beautiful, somewhat old-fashioned illustrations.
