I bought this for my daughter as a Christmas gift and it has remained my favorite of her books to date. She, like any 2 year old, goes in phases of loving it and refusing to read it, but I never tire of reading this one. The story is just fun to read, with a delightful cadence and rhythem (as others have said).

The "Book Bear Snores On" by Karma Wilson and illustrations by Jane Chapman is a fantastic fantasy story for children to enjoy. Because the story is written in rhyme, it makes an easy flow and more fun to read. Wilson creates a good story about friendship and it makes a decent bed time story for young children.

This story is about a gathering of forest creatures that go into a Bears lair to get out of the winters cold. They have a party while the bear is hibernating. They do not think that he will wake up, but while they are making stew a piece of pepper makes the bear sneeze and wake up with a ROAR. The animals are frightened, but the bear was only upset because he missed out on the party. A mouse tells him not to be alarmed and gives him goodies and he tells forest creatures stories all through the night. In the end it is the other creatures sleeping and snoring rather then the bear.

As you can see it is full of excitement, drama, friendships, and fun. I recommend this book to possibly a school teacher or a parent who wants to enjoy smiling with there children. I believe this book will become a childhood favorite if read. What I love most about "Bear Snores On" is the clarity, poetry, and pictures; they are beautiful paintings.

This book is adorable both for the rhyming story words and also for its beautiful illustrations. It's about a snoozy bear in his cave who keeps snoozing while animal friends come in to get warm. As more animals come in they have tea and corn together next to a little campfire near bear. Even more animals come in from the cold and begin to have a little party and make some noises around the campfire. Finally, bear wakes up and realizes that he's missed out on all the fun, but all his friends decide they can have some more tea and corn next the fire with Bear, and in the morning, when bear is wide awake, Bear's friends snooze just like Bear had done in the night. It's a fun story with a lot of excitment, socializing and reactions that happen, with lots of great illustrations to make it all the more fun and exciting. Wonderful and beautiful story.

I love this book too!

I'm always happy to write about my 2-year old son's favorite books, but I'll let you in on a secret - I probably love Bear Snores On more than my son does! There are some books on my son's bookshelf that I have to grit my teeth and roll my eyes before reading (over and over again), but Bear Snores On is not one of them. I'm actually disappointed on those rare occasions that he doesn't request this book before bedtime. Here's why.

Karma Wilson knows what makes a book so effective for children. Her rhyming cadence and repeated refrain "but the bear snores on" establish a completely infectious rhythm that aids in memorization. I can stop at any point in this book and my son will immediately chime in with the next line.

Jane Chapman's gorgeous illustrations are the other half of what makes this book so wonderful. Her animal characters are both stylized and lifelike (you can easily imagine what it might feel like to grab a big fistful of the bear's fur), and their facial expressions are priceless.

Aside from the story and artwork, there is the pure sweet joy of getting lost in reading to my child. I say this with no false modesty - my "bear waking up" is awesome! I can "jump and stomp and growl and grumble" with the best of them, and trading the bear's lines with my son never fails to leave us both grinning from ear to ear.

If you have a toddler in the family, you really have to get this book. Chances are you'll enjoy it just as much (if not more than) they will.

Boston's Gun Bible is probably THE book every gun owner and freedom loving American should own. Few Americans truly understand the Bill of Rights and the 2nd Amendment. It's not about hunting, nor is about personal protection. First and foremost, it is to protect Americans from an overbearing government! Boston's Bible gives you the information you need to make intelligent choices in every phase of selection and use of firearms.

That said, the original edition was released in 1998. We were in the depths of the Clinton efforts to disarm Americans. He revised it in 2000 with many important updates, and revised it again in 2002, which this version happens to be. That was the last revision. A newly revised edition is sorely needed.

It's been six long years, and many important events directly bearing on firearms, their ownership and use have transpired. The gun ban expired, which opened millions to ownership of guns more evenly matched with government forces. The development of the 6.8 SPC round for combat use in Afghanistan and Iraq. Laser optics. Wartime R&D have put many new features and materials in play. New manufacturers have come; others have gone. The Supreme Court has revised laws on gun ownership. All of this needs to be accounted for in any book purporting to be a Bible. And that means timely revisions.

The other reviews here accurately reflect strengths and shortcomings of the Bible. Even as it ages, however, it is aging gracefully, and you should surely own and study religiously the most recent edition.

Essential Reading for Gun Owners and Freedom Lovers.

I'm not sure if I can say anything more descriptive or relevant than the previous reviews, but I will say that this is an EXCELLENT book. If you are a gun owner or have ever considered owning a gun, this is the definitive resource for you. Before you buy, sell, or have any further dealings with firearms, you owe it to yourself to read this book!

I've read several of the other pro-gun and Second Amendment books offered by such noted authors as Bracken, Ross, and Rawles. They are all excellent works in their own right. However, Boston's Gun Bible (BGB) differs from all of the others in that, it is a purely non-fiction and factual book, based on detailed research. No gun-owner's library should be without it.

Buy this book and read it. You will not regret it.

Boston's Gun Bible is a very informative reference for almost everything relating to firearms. Boston offers advice and reviews for a wide range of topics, including (but not limited to): handguns, semi-automatic rifles, bolt-action rifles, shotguns, sights, optics, scopes, rangefinders, night vision, ammunition, knives, self-defense tactics, laws, regulations, and rights. Not afraid to state his opinion and back it up with facts and figures, he does a good job of separating fact from philosophy, and extensively covers both. Boston's style of writing puts an unwritten "and I mean it" after every sentence.

Boston's Gun Bible is partitioned into five parts. Part I begins the book from the ground-up by first defining a number of terms. Next comes a review of basic firearm safety, followed by a review of self-defense scenarios, defensive tactics for a number of situations, and a chapter dealing with guns and tactics specifically for women.

Part II exhaustively (and I mean exhaustively!) covers many semi-auto 'battle rifles', like the M14/M1A, FAL, and AR10, and battle carbines, like the AK74 and AR15. Boston not only numerically rates each rifle against tens of individual criteria, but elaborates (sometimes extensively) on each. Part III covers all other types of rifles, handguns, and shotguns with the same detail.

Part IV covers the acquisition of firearms, whether through private sales, gun stores, or gun shows. Boston hits many of the caveats associated with firearms ownership, as well as recommends a number of items for immediate purchase. A chapter is devoted to the practices, operation, and jurisdiction of the BATF. Boston also covers how to inspect firearms prior to purchase, and how to haggle a fair price. Reloading, cleaning, sighting, and shooting are all covered in the last chapter.

Part V and VI mainly cover topics like firearms rights (and rights in general), regulations, and disarmament. This is done as concretely as possible through commentary, recommendations, research, essays, news clippings, etc.

When it comes to firearms and self-defense, Boston certainly knows what he is doing. Boston's Gun Bible provides valuable information, confident recommendations, and an uplifting philosophy. This book is definitely worth its cover price. I highly recommend it.

Superb resource book with an unbelievable amount of information. I would have gladly given it 5 stars except there are a few typos here and there. I will strongly recommend this work to even those who are not firearm enthusiast. You might just become one and will certainly learn a great deal. Boston really gives you alot to digest in this book. It is an excellent read and gives lots of information on different rifles, pistols etc.. Anyone who strongly believes in their 2nd amendment rights should read this book. Some of it might seem abit overboard, but hey, whose to say....read it and decide for yourself!

Michael Zak's book was fascinating and made me wish it was a textbook used for high school and college students. In reading the comments, I see that some things did not appear in his book that were unfavorable to Republicans. That is unfortunate, and more study should be placed beside this book. It is a good read! It'll open many eyes.

As the chairman of the fastest growing and most active Young Republican group in my tri-state area I need books like this to more quicky educate conservatives. Whether candidate, supporter, or voter it is pertinent to understand the core values of Republicanism as well as our rich history. Back to Basics for the Republican Party is a terrific book about our values and history. It is in a must-read for all Republicans. Our principals are ever lasting yet without knowing and applying them we cannot truly unite and maintain the way of life our forefathers fought for. My challenge to every individual and campaign: Purchase, read, and pass around Back to Basics for the Republican Party.

"Back to Basics for the Republican Party" is the most important book written about the Republican Party in a couple of decades and the most helpful book for "working and involved" Republicans in 40 years. I thoroughly enjoyed it. This should be required reading for every Republican Activist, Member, Leader, and Candidate. Republicans have lost too many verbal, public relation battles to Democrats. This will arm you and enable you to defeat your left-wing opponents. By learning our heritage, we will win over the American people, especially the younger generation. Kim, Madison, Wisconsin

Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. Mr. Zak provides a rich overview of how Republican commitment to the U.S. Constitution and the free enterprise system have been prevailing themes since formation of the "Party of Lincoln." As a certified public school teacher I have been amazed at the blatant bias of so many textbooks, and particularly appreciate the comprehensive six pages of references provided with this entertaining and enlightened volume. It puts every U.S. president into perspective and gives credit where credit is due for elected officials of both parties. Buy it now and discover what you can teach beyond popular historical myths!

It's a GOP infomercial

I myself am a Black Republican, so I agree with Mr. Zak that the GOP's history on civil rights has not been fairly told. However, this book makes the same 2 errors that most GOP loyalists make when discussing Blacks and the GOP: 1) they oversimplify the ideology of the early Republicans and abolitionists. For example, notably missing from Mr. Zak's book are the following facts:that Herbert Hoover (Republican) was the first president to refuse to address the NAACP's convention, that Carter G. Woodson-the Founder of Black History Month-became so disappointed with the GOP that in the late 1920's he publicly stated that Blacks should stop being blindly loyal to the GOP, that soon after Reconstruction the GOP condoned the formation in the South of racially segregated GOP organizations, called the Lily Whites and the Black & Tans;that beginning in the 1870's Republican candidates lost elections in some Northern states because the Radical Republicans' idea of perfect equality was not embraced by most Whites, not even by most Republicans; that Lincoln was NOT a Radical Republican, he was a moderate who had ALWAYS discussed freeing the slaves ONLY in conjunction with deporting them to another country, for Lincoln openly declared that Blacks were inferior to Whites; that after the Civil War the GOP was weak nationally-since the founding of the GOP America has had 4 presidents who won by electoral vote but lost the popular vote, and all 4 were Republicans (Harrison, Hayes, Garfield, and Bush); that not all Republicans or abolitionists believed in racial equality, in fact most did NOT, they believed ONLY in ending slavery, and even on that issue they disagreed on the reasons, some were against slavery for moral reasons, others because they feared slave revolts, others because slavery competed with White labor, others because they wanted the good farmland used for more than just cotton. 2) they leave out much of how/why Blacks left the GOP in the first place: Mr. Zak's book does lay blame at the feet of Barry Goldwater, but overlooks the fact that Goldwater's victory in the GOP presidential primary obviusly says something about the views of rank and file Republicans in 1964-national civil rights legislation was clearly not a priority for most Republican voters in 1964, else Goldwater could not have won. Goldwater was just the icing on the cake. Beginning in the 1870's, the GOP began taking the Black vote for granted precisely because the Democrats were such vicious racists. Mr. Zak's book points out how the Democrats were at one point synonymous with the KKK, but he overlooks the obvious political implication for Black voters-if their only 2 choices were between the GOP and the Klan, it was an easy decision. Blacks voted for the GOP because they feared voting for the Democrats, this led to the GOP taking the Black vote for granted as the GOP moved further away from civil rights issues in order to attract more White voters, feeling confident that in doing so it would not lose Black voters. Today, it's the Democrats who take the Black vote for granted, because most Black voters are afraid of the GOP-the tables have turned.

As a Black Republican who is pro civil rights, I think what we need is a balanced review of history. This book is not balanced. Throughout history minorities have been used by the dominant group like a political footbal, and Blacks in America are no different. I'm working with some other Black Republicans to prepare a balanced view of Blacks and the GOP told from the Black perspective, not the perspective of a party loyalist.

I read this book on the recommendation of a friend. I say that I read it, but really this is more like a book you do. What do you do? You solve the mystery of the poetic story by searching the detailed illustrations for clues. Some clues are more obvious than others, but most clues take real sleuthing to discover. I had so much fun with it, and after about two days of study, I came up with the answer, but there was still so much that I had overlooked. Thankfully, the author reveals all to you in a sealed section at the back of the book. I encourage you to resist seeking the answers until you've tried your hardest to find as many clues as you can. Even if you can't figure out the who dunnit, you will be exited with every clue you find, and will likely hear yourself exclaim, "Ah-ha!". This book is marketed to children but it takes a sharp mind to solve the mystery and discover the clues, so it is really better suited for teens and adults, but even small children will enjoy the story and the amazing pictures. I would give this book as a gift to anyone who enjoys a good brain teaser. So get out your magnifying glass, a notepad and pencil, and have fun!

The story is about Horace the elephant who has decided to celebrate his eleventh birthday, with 10 of his friends in the eleventh month (November) on the eleventh day. After all have arrived the eleven characters participate in eleven games in anticipation of a birthday feast at the eleventh hour of the day. Thus the title of the book - The Eleventh Hour. The day is filled with musical activities, indoor/outdoor games, board games, cards, party games and more. The eleventh hour arrives disappointing the guests with the unexpected disappearance of their birthday feast. Apparently a theft perpetrated by one of the invited guests. Horace saves the day by serving healthy whole wheat sandwiches to all and the birthday cake remains because it had been stored away from the feast. With everyone enjoying the birthday cake, the story closes with a happy ending.

However, this is where one story ends and other mysteries begin. On each page of the book there are puzzles to be solved and clues to lead a more intrepid reader along the trail to the thief of the birthday feast.

I'm 26 now, but I remember the astonishment and awe I first felt borrowing this book from my 5th grade class's "library" when I was 10 years old. Back then, I gave up after 4 hours of not being able to figure anything at all out and had to look in the Sooper Sikret Section, but this time around, I got a few more of the clues on my own before having to look up the Section :P

A great book to sate the inquisitive mind of a bright child, honestly. Highly recommended!

Don't get Feer Street Cheerleaders either. Anyway, I have to admit, it's probably been aout a year since I've read this. I should really start selling my BIG libray of R.L. Stine books. If you ever se my name for buying a book, get it. I do NOT lie about the conditions of my books and most of them look new. All the ones that I didn't buy used, all look brand new- and I'M NOT KIDDING! Anyways, from what I remember, a boy named P.J. and can't tell you much else with out giving anything away. This book was the best! I loved it. It goes from a party to kids at school to people in the street to a suprising ending. The best part is the ending, it was so unexpected. The murderer was a stone-cold killer, twisting their heads all the way around. I'm REALLY looking forward to reading another R.L. Stine book.

Best Book
The book the New Years Party written by R.L Stein was a thriller book. This book mostly takes place at a party, school and many more. This is the best book I've ever read.
A Thriller book
This book is mostly about a couple of people who hang out with the new girl and her brother who seem nice. So they start to show her around. Then they get in a fight later in the story. One person from the group of girls tries to not be in a fight with the new girl anymore. The ending I thought was kind of scary and exciting at the same time. What happened I didn't expect it at all.
Exciting
This book had some pretty gross moments. I would recommend that you don't read this book during the night because you might have night mares. I loved this book because it kept you wanting to turn the page. For example when they we're in the restaurant, they went outside and found a body in the trash can. I loved it so much. Another reason I liked it is because when you would stop reading it for 10 minutes, you want to pick it back up and keep reading it. I also thought that the front of the book looked interesting and scary. I thought I would read it because I like scary books and if you do then this book is perfect for you.
Nice but Not Nice
Something else I'd like you to know about this book is that the beginning is kind of boring but the middle of the book and the end are great. If you decided to read this book then hears something you should hear just because someone seems nice doesn't mean that they stay nice.
Good or Bad
I would give this book 1 millon star if I could but since I can't I would give this book 5 stars. I loved it so much. I hope you read it and enjoy it as much as I did.

This book was about a group of friends on New Year's Eve who are about to count down the New Year, but something's gone wrong. Someone is crashing the party and one boy gets offended by it. It's icy on the road so he goes for a drive. Now no one can find him. Now you have to go read the book to figure out everything else and see what happens to him and his friend Beth. I recommend this book strongly to people who like horror books and books that have a lot of suspense. This book makes you want to read ahead the whole time to see what's going to happen. That's why I like this book a lot. I would tell anyone to read this book. There wasn't anything I didn't like about it. The book was really cool because the time base was 1965 and it was really cool to see how something really haven't changed from now and then. Sometimes in this book I could picture myself there at the party as scared as they all were. The end and close to the end of the book is really surprising and kind of hard to believe. That's why I loved it. This book is now of my favorites and I like it a lot like I have already said. So that's why I suggest you go and buy this book! (:

Block Party by Al- Saadiq Banks is a fast-paced, entertaining read. It grabs you from the first page and keeps you entertained until the very end. The characters are real, the setting is true and the message is clear. As an author myself, I am most impressed with what Al- Saadiq Banks has to offer. This is exciting urban fiction!

An excellent read

I cannot believe I had this book in my possession for months and never read it. The reason being I did not like the bold print throughout the book. I am glad I got pass that.

Block Party is about the life of Donald "Cashmere" Pierson.

He has just returned home after a seven year prison bid and the streets and the players have changed. Can Cash adjust to this change?

Cash is a devoted husband, father, friend, and street hustler. No matter how hard he tries to ignore the call of the street he can't. Will this be his downfall?

I loved this book and I am looking forward to reading any book Mr. Banks writes.

This was the first book that I read by Mr. Banks but it definitely won't be my last. In Block Party, we meet Donald Pierson a.k.a. Cashmere or Cash. Cash had the game on lock when he went to prison, but after a seven year prison bid, he comes home to find that the rules to the game have changed. All the young kids that used to look up to him are now hustlers. One kid in particular----Junebug. Junebug is now known are the "Mayor" because his cocaine-- nicknamed "Block Party" runs the street. No one can sell better cocaine in his town than him or his infamous goon sqaud will take them out.

Cash thought that he would come back home and chill out but after seeing the New Mercedes and the Bentley that the "Mayor" was rolling in, the hustler in him came back and just had to prove to the youngster Junebug that he could come back and still be on top of the game. He really was pissed when the Mayor insulted hsi 1993 Benz that he bought brand new off the showroom floor before his bid. The "Mayor"'s cockiness came to an abrupt halt when Cash came with the illest cocaine the dopefiends had ever seen and he nicknamed it "Bangman". It was the perfect name because soon after it hit the streets a lot of banging went on and lives got lost becuase of Junebug's jealousy and pride. Will Cash be able to run his last run without getting popped and without jeapordizing the life of Love, the faithful woman who married him while he was incarcerated and his two beautiful sons?? You haev to get the book to find out!!! Mr. Banks, we need a sequel!!!

This cleverly written concept (counting and poetry) book combined with the most beautiful illustrations makes this a must have for any home library. Before they can even read, children will enjoy have this story read to them while they look at the vivid pictures and try to count all the bugs to match the story. Opportunities to increase vocabulary are bountiful with the creative and broad use of vocabulary within the rhyming plot. The ending shows a great character building lesson to get to know someone before making a judgement. Just perfect!

Very cute story. I bought my niece the Fisher-Price tea party set and bought this book to go with it. The story is short but the pictures are adorable and very colorful. I would recommend this book. My niece is 1 1/2, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone over 3.

Great for young ages!

We've been reading this to our little guy since he was three months old, if even that, and he was glued to it from the start, easily his favorite book, still, at nearly 13 months. Great color, great rhythm, and lots of fun bugs! :)

The "Miss Spider" books are pretty easy reads. Nice stories, wonderfully bright, and imaginatively styled illustrations!

My 3 year old is a little concerned with spiders in general and I think by giving a sweet personality to a spider, it helps to take the edge off of the spiders we may find in the house and in nature.

The artwork in this book will keep any child interested. It took my daughter a few reads to get into the story and she still prefers Miss Spider's New Car, but we read this book often.

Harry Browne is why I became a Libertarian. He presents the Libertarian standpoint in a down to Earth matter that is easy to follow. Harry you're still the greatest. R.I.P.

What an eye opener.

This book opened up my eyes. I now clearly see what direction the country needs to head in order to be both free and competive in the world. Bravo, a master piece of facts and conclusions

I became a libertarian gradually, but it wasn't until I watched Harry in a televised 3rd party debate in 1996 that I really became aware of him and got more interested in the Libertarian Party. He seemed so trustworthy and reasonable, and unlike the other candidates, everything he said MADE SENSE!

By 2000 I had begun to be active in the Libertarian Party, and traveled to see Harry twice during that campaign, once in Philadelphia while I was on a business trip in Eastern Pennsylvania, and once in Marin County, California. Harry signed our copy of The Great Libertarian Offer, and we got a chance to speak with him at the Marin County event. I believe he said that very day was his wedding anniversary. He obviously would have rather been with Pamela then, but Harry and Pamela made many personal sacrifices for the cause of liberty.

I am intensely saddened to hear of his death last evening. I'm trying to see what I'm typing even though my eyes are full of tears. Harry meant so much to me. His 2000 campaign inspired me to get more actively involved in politics: I ran for local office in 2001, and for Congress in 2002. I often referred to Harry's books and web site for ideas on how to answer questions and present my own views in a more compelling, concise way.

The world has lost one of its best men. Thankfully, Harry's legacy will live on through his many books and other writings, and through the memory of millions of fans like me. But the world will never be the same without him.

Harry, thank you.

Harry Browne is an "IN YOUR FACE" Thinker. He does brilliantly in this tome. He defends Libertarianism quite well and for someone like me (a former Republican), his writing style shocks! Not just what he says but how he says it is both a breath of fresh air and at the same time shocking. Luckily Browne is still around to tell us all of the evils of big government (of all sorts) that sadly continues to grow in this so called War on Terror. Luckily I came across the Party (in detail) and Harry Browne some 4 or 5 years ago. I am glad it saved me from the silly political/intellectual path I was on. Listen folks, read this, and you'll see what Liberty is really all about.

A Return to what America once was

Harry Browne's Great Libertarian Offer is a call for a return to the principles that made the United States the great nation it once was. Browne lays out a precise and coherent blueprint for returning to the American ideal of individual liberty and freedom. Browne cogently points to how the rapid growth of the Federal government has led to more crime, danger from abroad, and the destruction of liberty in America.

Browne calls for reducing the Federal government to only it's constitutional functions enumerated in Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution. He calls for abolition of the welfare state, a reaffirmation of the 9th and 10th amendments of the Constitution, and a return to Jefferson's maxim "peace commerce and honset friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none".

Browne calls for freedom in health care by abolishing medicare, medicaid and other socialist programs. He also calls for the gradual abolition of Social Security by selling off Federal assests and replacing SS with private annuities.

This book is a snapshot of what a Libertarian administration would be like. A fun and fantastic read!

My students loved this book. Not only were my students able to make predictions, but they were able to create funny predictions that were more elaborate than the story provided. They loved making their own cause/effect book. It was a great way to teach the concept, read fun literature that connected to their lives, and try a different type of writing. They loved sharing their books they created.

Ageless, timeless, classic adventure!

I remember this book from the dentist's office as a child and rediscovered it as a teacher. I have used it at the beginning of the year in all grades Kindergarten through fourth grade and they ALL love it. For the little ones they just want to hear it over and over and even memorize what happens next. Also, they love the sharks, tigers, and especially the haystack with the pitchfork. Third graders rewrite and illustrate their own versions. I read this to my neice, and by age three "fortunately" was one of her favorite words! I am getting ready to start reading it to my two year old and I am preparing for MANY, MANY, repetitious reads!

I read a rave review of this book and sometimes it is really hard to live up to that kind of advance notice. It is a small book and it has some big ideas and it tells it's story economically. I am planning on giving it to my nephew who, I am certain, will enjoy what it has to say.

A wonderful book to use as a Read Aloud to teach the concept/meaning of "fortunately" and "unfortunately". Lovely colorful illustrations, a fun twist at the end that kids will love. A lively, clever picture book, a must have for every elementary library in my opinion.

I bought this book for my son's fourth birthday. We sat down to read it at bedtime, and he was completely riveted. When we finished, he said "read it again, Mommy." We went through this four more times, then I had to promise we'd read it again the next day in order to get him to go to sleep.

The story is gripping, and the artwork is amazing. Switching between color and black/white for the fortunately/unfortunately pages is a stroke of genius. My son has flipped through these pages on his own, staring at the pictures and telling himself the story. Wonderful book.
