Another fascinating piece of Terrell Wright's story-telling abilities, which reminded me in a way of the adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. The honesty and love, he describes his little life incidents with - which are by far not ordinary at all, turn your general black and white picture of growing up in the hood from an outsider point of view into a participant, and allow you to see a lot of grey shades in between. You wonder what would have happened, if he had just grown up in a different environment. But he didn't know better, and that's what makes it seem so innocent.
Although the overall issue is sad, Terrell knows how to entertain and that shows from the first to the last page. Hadn't I read his first book Home of the Body Bags, I would have probably not read this one, and then I would have missed an excellent view on something I had never had the chance to see. When is your next book coming out?

This second book is even better then the first. Plenty of great battles, tough bad guys, brave good guys, and a story line that left me wanting for the next installment. Very well done. Once I started it I looked forward to reading it every day.

This book is amazing in that it tries to be fiction but is scarily factual

This book caught my eye at The Boulder Bookstore in CO. I thumbed through it and there was so much stuff it boggled my mind.

I decided to buy it because as I leafed through it, I realized the most outrageous parts were actually true, and I had to take it home to research what was real and what was "political satire". There are a ton of books on Bush, most of which I find boring, apologetic, apoplectic, or full of stuff I already know. This one floored me with the amount of research -- most of which actually checked out, even though it tried to present the material in a humorous way.

If you want something that basically catalogs everything this president has done to this country, and (based on the publication date and stuff that seemed absurd but actually came to pass) this is a keeper. Since I live in CO and the DNC is being held here, I'm looking forward to seeing how much of this book is demonstrated by the way the various agencies handle the convention.

And if the seemingly preposterous premise that Martial Law will be declared and the elections either canceled or nullified actually comes true in the next six months, this book will basically become my political Nostradamus book.

If you care about politics, about the Bill of Rights and the abuses of Executive Privilege, you're really going to like this book. Even if you're sick to death of Bush, this book presents what's happened in the last 7 years in a much more amusing and less pompous way than similar books, and the line-by-line presentation offers the ability to check out the facts easily. I'm glad I bought it. And every time something interesting happens, I check the book to see if it was predicted. Pretty surprising. Learned a lot.

DELIGHTFUL INSPIRATIONAL READING

I can't wait until the authors finish the next volume. St. Birgitta is a wonderful saint for parents of troubled young adults to study. She had eight kids: one was also a saint but several of the others had big problems. She had religious visions throughout her life which are well documented. The authors did a wonderful job of making the book readable and not just academic.

Revelations Of Byzantium: The Monasteries And Painted Churches Of Northern Moldavia by Alan Ogden (with an historical introduction by Kurt W. Treptown and enhanced with original illustrations by Octavian Ion Penda), is an impressive and informative survey of the architecture and artwork of Moldavian religious institutions dating back to the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Splendid full-color photography offers compelling visual testimony of the grandeur and faith behind these stunning works of architecture and their impressive interior murals. The informed and "reader friendly" text offers both historical and critical background of the religious institutions and their remarkable artworks. Revelations Of Byzantium is a strongly recommended contribution to personal, professional, and academic Architectural History reference collections and supplemental reading lists.

This book by Brother Cook is possibly the best volume to have to get honest and compact historical background for each section of the Doctrine and Covenants. It has been well researched and thoughtfuly organized. It is a must have for scholar or hobbiest interested in the history of the Doctrine and Covenants, Joseph Smith and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This thoughtful leader in the field of spirituality and aging has now written a great book. The spiritual journey is always filled with twists and turns, joys and sorrows. Dr. Huber has given us the gift of being transparent in her journey so that we might have insight into our own. Although written from a Christian perspective, this book reveals one person's journey in such a manner as to enlighten anyone on a similar spiritual journey. Chapters are not called "chapters," but `revelations.' Each revelation is a part of Dr. Huber's journey, followed by questions and exercises through which you can "Make It On Your Own." To use Dr. Huber's own words from the introduction: "This book is designed to be lived with, rather than just read, although you may use it any way that works for you." Each chapter is titled for a revelation, an insight, that has come, sometimes rapidly and sometimes gradually. Sometimes it comes with a flash of humor and great delight, and sometimes in the midst of pain, fear and confusion." There are even wonderful suggestions for continued reading after each `revelation' (or insight) is explored.

A Practical Guide to Wisdom and Joyous Life
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2004-09-04
What a treat reading this book has been! It is wise, thoughtful, and sharing of the author's personal experience. I've read many, many books in my own personal journey -- Sarah Eames' book is one that I will treasure, reread, and, most importantly actually use on a continuing basis. One reads, say, a book such as Conversations With God, by Neale Donald Walsch, and one may say "Aha! That is what makes sense to me! I resonate to that!" But, one does not, I suspect, go back and REread Walsch's work -- one moves on. The Eames book, however, is designed to stay with a person, to be a companion, so to speak. That is one of its major values, in my opinion. Eames' "Perceptions" -- each a single page, and defined (as a whole) by the author as "a montage, or kaleidoscope of perspectives that can guide you through the gamut of human concerns" -- take up the majority of its pages. They are, as she has designed them, thoughts that can serve as a daily reminder, and also, if one wishes, as a source book to turn to in times of stress. I read them all the way through at first, noting that each did indeed draw out certain thoughts, recollections, and awarenesses that were personal to me. I want now to go back, as seems warranted, and reapproach each on a more focused basis. Almost all -- perhaps, indeed, ALL, if I really stopped to focus -- restate in some way thoughts that I have had or have had presented to me at one time or another in my personal search. The value is not just in the thoughts themselves, since I do believe that we are born with all the knowledge and wisdom of the creation inherent in our makeup, but need in our individual lives only to "recover" or "remember" it, as part of our journey. Rather, the value, is in her presentation of those thoughts -- the form AND the substance -- in a simple way, not overwhelming but capable of being divided up into as small portions as one can or wants to handle at any given time, usually with both personal example of their place in her own life, and prompting as to what one might, as a practical matter, do with any particular thought. Her book can and, I suspect, will serve as an aid to that process of "recovery and remembrance" for many people. It is inherent in our copyright law that ideas alone cannot be protected -- they are "out there" and, on close examination, rarely if ever "new"; only the particular form of expression of those ideas is protectable, because that form is, given the uniqueness of each of us, always original. The uniqueness of what Sarah Eames offers a reader is the book's real value. It is, indeed, a practical guide to wisdom and joyous life.

New revelation for humankind

Review Date: 2002-09-26
This book offers to humanity a new direction and understanding of creation, life, the universe, and the role of God and Satan. In this material I found a new truth that gives to humanity a sense of comprehending what questions that have always prevailed in the mind's of mankind. Unlike the answers that have come down to man in the past, these answers come from the superior spirits of the Almighty, and not the from man's own cognitive approach to understanding the religions passed from one generation to the next.
The Revelations contained in this book far surpasses the ideas that mankind has reached in the course of religious and human evolution. What can be gained from this book is a better understanding of our universe, science, man's purpose, and our responsibility to each other and God law of love.
The spirits that spoke to the original Message Bearers (the Latvians) gave to mankind a different insight to life and the Creator of all life including God, Satan, and our human spirits. Mankind must read and comprehend these Messages in order to bring about peace, love, and harmony for all humanity.
