This is an incredibly exciting book! It is very practical and extremely easy to understand. Miss Tirabassi shows the reader, through her personal experiences, that prayer is for everyone. Steeped in Scripture, this book will show you how you can harness the power of prayer and how you can become a more effective prayer warrior. She explains that through this process your relationship with God will become very intimate and personal. This book will challange you to stretch the parameters of your Christianity and it will challange you to take God at His word. This book has inspired me to take a serious look at my pray life and to make time for something that should be the most important part of each day. A must read for all Christians.

This book has been so helpful. My wife and I have looked long and hard for something as appropriate as this book to help us through a powerful substance abuse problem with our (now) 17 year old son. He is just completing almost 7 months in the best residential treatment facility in our state, has had several hospitalizations both voluntary and involuntary as well as a stretch in a group home because of his wild and dangerous behaviors. During all these months my wife and I have been reading a lot of books, seen the best therapist we could find for ourselves, had intensive counseling sessions with staff at all the facilities he has been committed to including four good psychiatrists. But during all that time this book hits home more specifically to the patterns we have been through and is better even than the book recommended to us by the latest psychiatrist in our son's treatment facility. It reinforces everything we have learned to improve our parenting and we wish we had found this book years ago. I recommend this book for parents of any difficult or troubled kid, and I am buying extra copies to give to both our family therapist and and to our son's staff psychiatrist.
Unlike most self help parenting books, this book provides concrete and paractical examples from real case histories and further offers very easily applied strategies to help empower parents who feel helpless and are in pain. This book gives parents tools that work to improve the apparently impossible situations they find themselves in with their teenagers in trouble. It shares a tremendous pattern of commonality between many troubled adolescents. It shares and guides in a homey and friendly way in a time when parents feel so alone and guilty, humiliated and hurt, blindsided or incompetent. The title of the book doesn't even mention adolescents but that is exactly the age it helps with the most.

The Rembrandt Panel ( in paperback copy) was a pleasure to read. The story is set in Boston, but the feel is London.. the environment is the art world and a slightly complicated murder mystery.. engrossing read.. I focus on finding and reading older mysteries along with good new ones that may be published. The quality of the used paper back was moderately o.k., definitely readable. Delivery was adequate.

"This impressive work, in the same league as Richard Kluger's Simple Justice, not only emphasizes the decision itself but wisely focuses on the internal working of the High Court and the all-important, often controversial nature of constitutional interpretation. This fine analysis is recommended for all libraries."
-- Library Journal
"A tremendously interesting and highly readable documentary history. This work will serve as a seminal source for those interested in the development, strategies, documents, and inner Court workings that resulted in the landmark Brown decision. At the same time, it will serve for the novice as a comprehensive guide to the judicial process much as Anthony Lewis' Gideon's Trumpet (1964) served for another generation. Whitman's analysis and commentary are first-rate and make this book an important one in the field of civil rights and the judicial process."

This is an excellent resource for the novice researcher, e.g., thesis and dissertation students. The book introduces the student to what research is generally all about, the various goals, and the various outcomes. The book's explainations and definitions are not overwhelming, but clear, simple, and to the point. And, most importantly, it introduces one to the language of research, such that one can speak intelligently about his/her efforts to conduct research and explore the areas that will lead one to his/her completed research. When a graduate students tells me: "I don't know what this research stuff is really all about; what is research design, what is a variable...?", I give them this book. The student returns with a good overview of the challenges and ready to make a plan.

This book was excellent. It was a verse by verse study of Revelation, and it really cleared alot up. Oliver B. Greene did an outstanding job in explaining this book, and I have no doubt in my mind that the Lord would give his blessing on every word in this book. Anyone who may have questions concerning the Bible book of Revelations should read Oliver B. Greene's verse by verse study. I will definately keep this book in my collection.

One of the most important children's illustrators ever

I'm amazed to discover that after being in print for 10 years, this beautiful book has never yet been reviewed here.
A 1906 review of his series of children's books states, "The Genius of Randolph Caldecott will stand for all time. Caldecott is lord of the nursery. No one has ever approached him. He is supreme. Every nursery -- every child's bookshelf that does not contain his Picture Books is poor indeed."
This is as true today, a century later, as when it was written. Maurice Sendak has stated, "As in a song, where every shade and nuance of the poem is heightened and given greater meaning by the music, so Caldecott's pictures illuminate the rhymes. This is the REAL Mother Goose -- marvellously imagined improvisations that playfully and rhythmically bounce off and around the verses without ever incongruously straying. If any name deserves to be permanently joined with that of Mother Goose, it is that of Randolph Caldecott. His picture books should be among the first volumes given to every child."
Randolph Caldecott's name is celebrated in the Caldecott Medal, awarded each year since 1938 by the children's section of the American Library Association, for the most distinguished children's picture book. Ironically, though, his own work has been difficult to find for quite a long time.
In the last quarter of the 19th Century, Caldecott produced 16 profusely illustrated small "Picture Books" of traditional or well-known rhymes and poems for children. Originally published by George Routledge & Sons (London) in a 9" x 8" format, and later reprinted in the same format by Frederick Warne, these titles were, in sequence,
1) The House That Jack Built
2) The Diverting History of John Gilpin
3) Elegy on the Death of a Mad Dog (by Oliver Goldsmith)
4) The Babes in the Wood
5) Sing a Song for Sixpence
6) The Three Jovial Huntsmen
7) The Farmer's Boy
8) The Queen of Hearts
9) The Milkmaid
10) Hey Diddle Diddle, & Bye, Baby Bunting
11) A Frog He Would a-Wooing Go
12) The Fox Jumps Over the Parson's Gate
13) Come Lasses and Lads
14) Ride a Cock Horse to Banbury Cross, & A Farmer Went Trotting Upon His Grey Mare
15) An Elegy on the Glory of Her Sex, Mrs Mary Blaize (by Oliver Goldsmith)
16) The Great Panjandrum Himself
This present Alfred A Knopf/Borzoi/Everyman's Library/Children's Classic edition is sturdily bound with sewn sections that will not crack apart like so many books more cheaply constructed. It contains the full text and original illustrations of half of Caldecott's original series: #14 (presented separately as Ride a-Cock-Horse, and A Farmer Went Trotting), and #s 2, 1, 8, 5, 4, 16, and 3 -- each one a personal favorite of my own. Nearly every page has either charming line drawings or a full-page color illustration.
It's not possible for any child to not be intrigued and engrossed by these wonderful pictures, even when the delightful rhymes are not being read aloud. This is a book that should be under every child's Christmas tree, or in the library of anyone who appreciates fine illustration.

Freedom of Religion

In an increasing dissonance of haughty misinformation about our religous liberties this book is a haven of rest and reflexive thought. Author Barry Lynn tackles with ease the burning questions of the hour. Do your kids have the right to pray in school? Why is the effect of school vouchers so difficult to define? Did the founding fathers really say we can have freedom only if we're religious? With the religious right making people think that their rights are being done away with, this book is a must have. My daughter prays @ school before her meals each day, and no one disturbs her. School vouchers only seem good for our kids, the fact is, vouchers would take much needed funding out of our schools when they need it most. In the ruling on Santa Fe,the supreme court isn't curtailing any rights previously held by the people. This book answers these questions in a clear and systematic fashion. If you visit the websites of most religious rights groups, you'll see that they admit what they're not willing to say in public: Our religious liberties are NOT UNDER ATTACK (visit the FAQ section of 'religiousliberty.com', maintained by religious right groups and see for yourself). To stay on top of the issues, read this book. The information and counsel is undeniable. Maybe that's why religious right leaders absolutely dislike debating Barry Lynn on TV.

An excellent exposition of Rilke's ideas

Mason writes in a very clear and understandable way. In one chapter he explains something I had not really understood, Rilke's relation to God. As Mason explains it Rilke rejects the God of Christianity. He instead puts forth two conceptions of God related to his own poetic work. In one the God Rilke speaks of is a kind of pantheistic God, related to Rilke's conception of 'inwardness' In the other God is something to be forged to be made by creators like himself. God is a Work of Art in process, a future creation.
This conception of God is not related to some other world. Rilke's focus is thisworldly and the God he writes of is a God in this world.
This idiosyncratic conception of God is of course not that of traditional religious believers.
Rilke when asked about how he could pray to a God whose Existence he does not believe in, dismissed the question. For him what was important was the experience of turning to God
This book provides an excellent exposition of Rilke's ideas and his poetry.
