An excellent reference on neuromodulators and transmitters. The book provides the most comprehensive review of the field available. The concept of the book is to give in short chapters an overview of the biosynthesis of neuromodulators and transmitters, followed by a description of the localization of these substances and their receptors in the brain. Last but not least, the different subtypes and their biological action are described in a excellent way.
- a must have for neuroscientists !

This is the right book for right now and right now is always here and now. Right now. This book spells it all out in very understandable language what it means to be born again. This book will describe how we are to cast off all the things that hold us back from thoroughly being immersed in the Word of God and what it truly means to be born again.

You'll never be bothered again by anything a Pastor tells you. You'll never be bothered again by anything you hear outside of the Word of God. This book when read and understood in light of Scripture will truly bless you.

Every believer should read this book. Anyone who wants to know how to be born again should read this book.

Let's all thank God for this book!

Thanks God! (spoken while pointing both index fingers toward the heavens!)

I read this book as a nine-year=old. As I remember, Robert Frost, Alfred, Lord Tennyson and Joel Barlow were my favorites. I misplaced this book throughout my careless adolescence. If you can find the copy I had, it will have a blue cover. Happy Reading!

This is an excellent overview about relations with mulattoes and other races in the U.S. especially their role in the black community during Reconstruction, the Harlem Renaissance, and after.

Subliminoir

Review Date: 2003-07-21
Using Freudian theory as a base, this scholarly treatise postulates that film noir is premised on conflicts involving gender, race, and nationality. Since much of the text necessarily examines psychoanalytical concepts, the reading requires patience and careful scrutiny. The authors' conclusions are at best edifying and at worst eye-opening--and almost certainly will cause readers to view familiar movies in a brighter light. Touch of Evil, for example, well known to most noir mavens, is thoroughly probed in its treatment of sexuality and ethnicism. The writers' judgments can thus be assessed as to their plausibility in accordance with readers' beliefs concerning Freudianism or simply in their evaluation of the motives of director Orson Welles. If the reader has not seen the film, however--as in the lesser known Secret Beyond the Door--it will be impossible to apply such a deduction. Surely, any of the authors' conclusions can be theorized to be intentional on the film creators' parts, or subliminally driven, or simply done for a technical reason. For instance, in Touch of Evil, the writers contend that Welles had Charlton Heston translate a Spanish statement into English in order to demarcate linguistic (and thus ethnic) identity. But might this not have been done merely to clue in the audience? Regardless, this text is very well researched and composed and should be of major interest to serious students of film noir.

A moving tale for the young and old alike

I read this book in translation, as a child and now finally found it in the original language. The story of Micki and Nywa is gripping right from the start, simple and evoking emotions that far more complicated stories manage. The friendship of the pup and bear cub, the author's love for the wild will and should charm all.

This is a NEW VOLUME 1 Publication

This publication is the EXACT SAME COPY AS ISBN 0878770534 except the cover is different.

The only reason I'm leaving a review is that I see a lot of sellers selling the old publication as used and at double the price.

It took me awhile to find this copy and recognize it's the EXACT same book as the out of print one from 1981. I'm all for using the Marketplace, but if you can get a NEW book at regular prices, I suggest doing so.

This is, of course, an amazing book!! :-) And normally I don't share the amazing books that reside on my shelves (because I'm a professional and like to keep guard on trade secrets) but my conscious wants to ensure that people who can't afford paying "double the price" should have access to a cheap and new copy of the book.

Namaste and Shanti!

Curry for breakfast

Review Date: 2006-12-01
Oliver Kite's most noteable work is surely the perfect antidote to anybody whose brains have been addled by George Skues, Peter Gathercole and possibly even Charles Jardine.

These flambouyant and learned gentlemen artists of the fly credit the trout with colour vision and a palette that would embarass Monet. Whereas Ollie Kite was a tank training officer, based near Salisbury, with only two fairly drab fly patterns in his box. If he had studied art, he would certainly have tended towards minimalism.

His patterns were 'Kite's Imperial' and the 'Bare-hook nymph' - neither of which are ever likely to find their way into the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the Tate Modern.

Inspired by his monochrome patterns - I went to a clear, spring-fed lake where Mr Jardine's own children learned to fish - to see if it was really possible to catch a trout on a bare (silver) hook. And it was !

What Sir Charles Jardine attempts to achieve by iridescent impressionism, Olly Kite achieved in the previous generation by giving the rod a twitch, or the line a pull and making the fly dance. I'm the first to admit the seductive effect of both these approaches.

But I still have yet to find out what Charles Jardine has for breakfast.

Essential Reference for the South Seas
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2000-10-24
Douglas Oliver's OCEANIA should be the foundation work for any collection on the South Seas. Forget the various short versions of Oliver's work (they have different titles so there is no problem with getting one of them by mistake). You wouldn't want a condensed version of WAR AND PEACE, and you won't want a shortened version of Oliver. This two volume work is the standard ethnography for Oceania. It is thorough, reliable, and has great illustrations. Like all highly inclusive works, it will not satisfy the specialist. If your interest is solely in the Maori, then you will need special works on the Maori. This work is where the collection starts, whether the collection is to be specialized or fairly general. Whether your interest is in Oceania itself, in Pohnpei alone, in ocean cultures anywhere, or in world history or anthropology, this work deserves shelf space. Does that make it sound difficult or boring? It's interesting to the general reader as well.
