Painful Reminder of Events We Must Not ForgetReview Date: 2001-08-29
This book outlines in vivid, graphic language the horrors Mr. Abraham and thousands of other prisoners endured, and then goes on to describe Mr. Abraham's efforts after the war to disinter hundreds of American and Filipino soldiers and have their remains returned to their families. My uncle was one of these, and was returned to be buried in Lexington, Kentucky. He is personally mentioned several times in the book, along with many, many others. Mr. Abraham's memory is awesome, and I congratulate him on writing a first-hand story -- one that is becoming all too rare nowadays as we are losing so many of our precious World War II veterans.
I'm 44 -- and while I don't remember these events personally, we must never forget the sacrifice our American boys gave in the first horrible months of World War II in the Pacific.
If you're interested in World War II history at all -- especially the events in the Philipines -- this is a must-read book.

Remember the heroes of BataanReview Date: 2003-08-12
Don't be daunted by the length of this book; I usually would take quite some time to read a book of this length, but I finished this one very quickly.
Mr. Abraham also has his own website (ghostofbataan.com) for anyone who is interested. From there, you can email him or explore various features like the message board.
Too often, people forget about our heroes in the Pacific during WWII because of the focus on the heroes in the European theater; let us not forget the many men who served in the military to protect our country in the Philippines. I think every high schooler should read this book so that the leaders of the future will understand how hellish war really is, not just a surgically sterile type of operation.

Oh my God! It's Great!Review Date: 2006-06-28
This book delivers on so many levels, I truly stand in awe of it. I have to admit that before I read it, I wondered if Dr. Valentine could encapsulate the dynamism and color of her personality in book form, and anyone who has ever heard her speak will know what I'm talking about. Well, the fantastic news is that she did it! She's present in every word. What's even more amazing is she has packed so much more into every word. This is not a book for speed reading. It's more like a friend you'll want to keep nearby for whenever you want a lift or a way to look at a problem from a fresh perspective. I loved reading this book, but I know that rereading it will be even better.
Divided into five sections - Healing Through Relationships, Power in a New Perception, Spiritual Practice, Truth in Story, and Moving Forward - "Oh my God. It's Me!" is further subdivided into short lessons, exercises, essays, and poems that offer insight, guidance, and wonderfully valuable, life-enhancing tools. Using analogies from the prodigal son to Dorothy's dog Toto, Dr. Valentine has done a fantastic job of transferring her insights and uniquely compelling guidance to the printed page. The result is Dr. Sheryl Valentine in book form - and - Oh my God! She's great!

Oh God Where is my Healing speaks to your heart and soul.Review Date: 2004-11-14
OH GOD, WHERE IS MY HEALING is a self help book that connects you directly to your relationship with God using everyday encounters. It is well written and easy to follow and read filled with motivational soothing words that encourage, up beat verses from the Bible as well as testimonials. The Author clearly makes you understand what your choices are to help you not be a victim. I could not put the book down and I am reading the book for the second time because there is more to receive and I do not want to miss anything. I feel happy down in my heart. It is as if she is speaking directly to my heart. This is a message well received and well shared. I loved the book and would recommend it to all age groups for there is something for everyone. It actually answers my questions of why do my prayers seem unanswered sometimes and why am I not healing the way I want to. This is from God because it works exactly as she says, Excellent!

Controversial, Compelling, Challenging, Outrageous...Review Date: 2005-10-18
He has managed to offend every aspect of faith and religiosity. His observations are both outrageous... and true.
No religion, no doctrine, no faith, no evangelist, no leader, is spared his razor-sharp wit, his keen intellect, and his knack for cutting though all the BS that infects religious thought.
The talking heads of religion are squirming in their pulpits... and some are already calling for the head of George Wallace on a stick.
Question Authority Then Question Their AnswersReview Date: 2006-01-31
In "Oh! God? Is That You? I Have A Question.", George B. Wallace encourages his readers to look beyond the "truths" organized religion, family, and society have fed us and, instead, reach for our own truths with the aid of questions and logic. This book represents Mr. Wallace's personal image of God. He is endearingly wise enough, however, to include a disclaimer stating that he could very possibly have it all wrong. Simultaneously he reminds us how important it is to seek our own answers versus blindly and naively accepting any homogenized, censored, revised details presented to us as the one path to God.
Conversational with an occasional sarcastic or silly jab, Mr. Wallace explains key points with vivid, charismatic description. For instance, in reference to a soul being banished to Hell he writes, "Burned souls would give God indigestion." Or when discussing the life and times of Jesus he says, "Jesus' life was not about magic, or mumbo jumbo; it was about love, but it is likely that later writers added a lot of decoration to the icing on the cake".
As someone who enjoys the study of various religions and spiritual paths, I found myself dog-earing pages while making mental lists of people to steer toward this title. I am impressed by Mr. Wallace's purposeful and pointed examination of God taking his readers beyond the obvious so that we might better connect to and clarify the role of God, and his (or her) motivations, in our lives and world.
This book is for all thinking souls; a brilliant reminder to not only question authority but to also question the answers authority returns. This book may not be for the deeply indoctrinated for, I fear, their minds may well explode. If you prefer to wrap yourself in a cloak of groupthink and play follow and finance the leader-put this book down and go back to covering your eyes. On the other hand, if you enjoy asking "Why?" you will savor "Oh! God? Is That You? I Have A Question."

One Nation, Oh My God!Review Date: 2008-06-22
One of Jen's strongest suits is her eye for pop culture weirdness. Hipsters, ipods, bizarre fashion trends, and eye glasses are fodder for some of the best cartoons in the book.
On the political front, there's plenty for folks who have followed the news over the past 8 years (a.k.a. elites). Historians may look back at strips like "The Privatization of Snow" and lament the days when the Globoplundimaxx Corp. wasn't yet a reality and only brilliant satire for us to enjoy. "Gay Republican Guilt Camp," however, may already exist in some form--but if you don't buy the book you'll never know what goes down in the confession booths.

"Oh, God, Where Are You?" Although it is a long book (599 pp.), I finished it quickly because it is immediate in its detailed description of the March, the cruelties of Japanese soldiers, the courage of the American and Filipino soldiers and people along the way who often sacrificed their own lives to help the weak and the weary. The most compelling part of the book is the last 250 or so pages detailing his acceptance of Gen. MacArthur's personal request that he find and disinter the bodies of American soldiers buried along the way of the March, mostly by villagers who remembered. His is an extraordinary book, well worth the price and the time spent reading it.
