Ice Under Fire was a great mystery, but in my opinion had no fire. Even though it was a sweet love story, Ken struck me as a softy, and yes there is a such thing as being to soft, and Nique as a person that did now know exactly what she wanted! But I must say the suspense and mystery was the bomb! The story started out good but quickly slowed! This book did not keep my attetion for a very long and that is why it took me a long while to finish it.

This book is like no other. I have a husband and two children and it was hard for me to concentrate on them as long as I was in the middle of this book. I read it in two days (Record for me). The characters were greatly detailed as far as attitude and emotions. Mrs. Hudson-Smith had to feel the characters to write such a great book. I loved the mystery as well as the romance.

Just a great book. She has encouraged me to continue my dream to write.

Omunique Philyaw was a figure skater. That, in itself, was amazing since her coaches had told her that she would never make it to Pro. But she did! She triumphed over childhood illness and less than zero encouragement! Skating pro was the only thing Omunique had ever wanted in her life. Now it all hinged on getting the sponsor of the athletic-wear company.

Kenneth Maxwell, Jr., had begun on the wrong foot. He had thought Omunique to be a temporary employee that he had been waiting for. And every second he pushed his foot a bit deeper into his mouth. The family company was all that mattered to him. His whole life was put into the company. But his father dumped the US Olympic Skater contract in his lap only two hours before the figure skater was due to arrive and flew out of town! Hot sparks flew the moment they met! Two hot heads that are attracted to each other, yet unable to let go of their own troubles.

WOW! This book has it all, Readers! Omunique is one classy and sassy lady! Kenneth is no slouch either! This story has a powerful message behind it of reaching for your dreams, yet still comes across with the softness of love. Highly recommended!

A Beautiful Love Story

Shay's and Braxton's story was sooooo dramatic and sweet. I love the romancing and the sexual attitude they have towards each other.

Also, what got me into this story is that it wasn't just another romance novel. It had spice in it. A little bit of mystery, fright, anxiety, romance, etc. It was worth reading however i think it was too short. I love the whole murder-romance-envy situation. Great roleplay on each character...i love the way everyone were involved in the story.

The mystery was resolved too quick and caused the story to end too soon. I wouldn't have mind a few more chapters or hey even an epilogue.

However, this was a beautiful story and i can't wait to read your next book Ms. Bussey and congratulations and good luck on your up and coming self titled CD.

Images of Ecstasy is a not too brief, but could of definitely lasted a few more chapters, amazingly take-your-breath-away love story. Like a highly-rated rollercoaster, "Images" gradually gains speed, drops down deeply into murder, creeps along carefully with mystery, pinnacles straight up with some sensual and sizzling romance and expertly twists you with several over and under turns of several possible suspects. Shay Hilton and Braxton Steele are a couple destined for love however, they must uncover the identity of the murderer, to keep Shay out of jail and in Braxton's or Shay's bed. This ride eventually settles you into a surprisingly pleasant ending. Loure Bussey's best love story to-date.

If you are looking for an excitingly sexy, and suspenseful read, then 'IMAGES OF ECSTASY' is the book for you. I read this book in one sitting and didn't want to put it down even when I finished.

From the moment they first met, Shay and Braxton were the perfect match. With so many things against them, they were able to find true love with each other that some people only get to dream about. The love scenes were both passionate and enduring.

The storyline, a mixture of romance, suspense, and intrigue make for a very satisfying read. This is one that will keep you wanting more.

If you enjoy this as much I did you have to go out and get 'A Taste of Love'.it will knock your socks off.

This was my first Michelle Perry novel & I thoroughly enjoyed it. I 'm not going to summarize the plot, that's already been done. Nadia & Dante are kindred spirits & soul mates, both strong characters, but very human. The chemistry between them is immediate & never lets up. There were some funny scenes, not the least of which was their first meeting, when Nadia came on to Dante in the diner & bit his ear. Nadia is a great combination of grit & girlishness; Dante is my kind of man--big & brawny & tough but w/ a tender heart. This is a very satisfying love story on several levels. Loved the action & suspense as well. The only thing that bothered me is that Dante has a habit of swatting Nadia on the behind, something I can't stand & won't put up with.

Action packed!

This was on the edge action all the time. I almost think Nadia the heroine could have taken care of herself without to much help from Dante. Her family was aware of there being a threat to her or her mother and kept her pretty much protected but she had a will of her own and wanted her own life which is where she put herself in danger. Over all I thought the book was excellent and an easy read. It held my attention and sometimes if a writer repeats how handsome or beautful blah blah blah the hero or heroine is it just takes away from the story. I like it when a discription is written once and not harped on over and over. If someone is beautiful I don't need it pounded into my head. Got cha once.

Fantastic!

I had never read this author before and was I pleasantly surprised. What a wonderful plot and the romance was very intense and real. I loved this book. The main character reminded me so much of Vin Diesel it was unbelievable. Very good book. I highly recommend this book for those of you who are tired of too much sex and not enough action along the way along with a good plot.

Loved this book for same reasons listed below so won't repeat. Just wanted to add that I especially loved the humorous moments. I laughed out loud at the description of Nadia as she was trying the get rid of the hiccups during her kidnapping. And the whole scene between her and Dante and the MREs. Hysterical!

I randomly picked this book up at the local library not realizing how magnificent it would be. I wanted a breather from all the romance novels I've been hooked on lately and boy what a difference! It was a very depressing story. There are particular lines in the book that are still lingering in my mind. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but when Evan gets back with his ex-wife and they're talking of the past and he realizes the child she had with another man could have been theirs, but it wasn't.(please read the book and you'll understand) As a reader I felt his pain and misery for the mistakes he made that he couldnt take back, but was trying to mend. When I finished reading this book I could not stop crying; it's that touching!I read a review somewhere where the reviewer is saying this book is not depressing, but I beg to differ! It is very depressing and nostalgic, yet I got the message the author was sending. I highly recommend it.

I read this book over the past 4 days, and it is still with me. I found myself doing something I rarely do when reading... going back and re-reading certain passages because of the pure, simple beauty of Long's writing and clarity of his observations on love, live, and death. Evan Molloy is certainly flawed and not the most sympathetic character, but this is what makes him so utterly likeable... he could be you, me, our sibling, our neighbor, anyone. As his mother tells him early on, he has a charmed life - a happy childhood, education, meaningful work, and marriage to his soul mate, who he then wrongs in the worst way. Later, given the chance to love again, he is betrayed by his own mind, suffering from mental illness. His suspension between the living world and the afterlife, and his 'relationship' with the new owner of his home, 30-something Maureen, herself struggling to find her footing after leaving her job and fleeing a destructive affair, allow him to reflect and uncover the mysteries of his own death, and ultimately for him to be free.

Beautifully written, but not the 'ghost story' you might expect

Review Date: 2007-07-14
The premise of a lonely ghost observing life going on in the house in which he died is what attracted me to David Long's novel. But that idea is actually a rather slight portion of this story.

For reasons neither he, nor the reader, ever understand, Evan is doomed to remain in the house in which he committed suicide 10 years earlier. While the premise is fantastical, the tone of the novel is not. We see Evan's life is fragmented, almost swirling snapshots, which seem appropriate for a lost soul still piecing his recollections together. Long writes beautifully in a very literate style and much of the story is Evan reflecting upon his life. And the events of his life are rather prosaic and mundane. He meets his wife, marries her, has an affair, is divorced, reunites with his wife and her troubled daughter. Perhaps Long's point is that life is mundane. But Long's elegant, somewhat melacholy prose holds the reader more than the story itself.

There's a slightness to the narrative. And Evan's connection to Maureen, the woman living in 'his' house doesn't seem fully fleshed out. What is it about her that touches him more than the previous tenants in the house? (She seems to most resemble the woman with whom he had an affair, but that connection is never made explicit.) We follow Evan's mental collapse leading to his suicide in the flashbacks, but it feels a bit arbitrary. There's a slightly aloof quality to Long's story and prose and Evan remains an oddly generic character. It's clear long before the reader gets to the end of this book that there will be no tidy conclusion to this story. And there isn't. And since the emotional impact of the ending hinges on Evan's connection with Maureen, it's puzzling that this connection is what is slighted for much of the novel.

This is a lovely novel -- readable, if not entirely compelling, but perhaps not what many readers might expect from its other-worldly premise.

I have not, in the past, felt compelled to write reviews on the internet, but this book is so haunting, smart, poetic, and strange, I can't help myself from asserting to potential readers: read it. This is an author who has such a sense of the nature of human beings, their motivations, the depths of the psyche--it changed the way I'll ever again see some of the people in my life. While I was reading it, I found myself talking to its characters, recalling its details, singings its praises to strangers. It entered my dreams! I'm not doing it just, but will say, you won't find another novel like this, and you won't forget it.

Evan commits suicide and returns 10 years after his death to his Seattle area home where he tries to understand "why" he did it - he reflects on his life and his quest for strength to escape his battle with depression and failed relationships. The book is dark and often foggy and rainy like its setting in winter in the Pacific Northwest. However, it is beautifully written and places the reader in the shoes of one where if your DNA was off-kilter just a tad - you can imagine that it could happen to you...

Insatiable by Julie Elizabeth Leto
Harlequin Temptation # 835 - June 2001

Samantha has always been the caretaker. Even as a child she moved to L.A. with her father so she could look after him. Then more recently she had a love affair with a hot movie actor for all the wrong reasons. So she's moved back to New Orleans, where her mother and sister are, to be her own person and make her own dreams. In Hollywood she was a very good stunt double, so her athletic experience leads to a job with her brother-in-law as a bodyguard. Nick launched his grandmothers' pasta sauce company straight out of college. Now he's CEO of a major corporation looking to get into the European market. His beloved Nanas have put a delicious photo of him on their pasta sauce label, announcing to America that Nick is looking for a wife. Sam's working at the Superdome where Nick has a booth for the Super Marketing Expo. When he tries to enter the stadium he's surrounded by hoards of wife-wannabes, and Sam comes charging to his rescue. Sam sees Nick as the perfect opportunity to try out her newly acquired bodyguard skills.

On the back cover it reads, Sassy, Sexy, Seductive and this one meets all of those hands down! When Sam agrees to pretend to be his girlfriend, poor Nick doesn't really know what he's getting into. And when Sam's psychic mother and Nick's matchmaking Nanas get together, Nick just doesn't have a chance. I couldn't put this own down until I read the very last page!

The book is awesome! You definitely want to read this one. It is hot, steamy and leaves you wanting more! Julie Elizabeth Leto is at her best! The steam between the two main characters is unbelievable. The added plus of his aunts' interference is incredibly funny. I am not normally a big fan of Harlequin romance novels, but in this new genre, they have taken the lead in hot romance. I cannot wait until Julie's next book for the series is published!

When we last saw Samantha Devereaux, estranged twin-sister of Serena Devereaux, she was badgering Brandon Chance, her brother-in-law to be to let her work for him. Chance had just retired from the Nightstalkers, due to vision problems stopping him from being a pilot, and had set up a Private body guard service. Since he could find no reason not to take on Samantha as partner, he has let her go ahead and get her license while he and Serena are on their honeymoon. Only the joyful bliss led Chance and Serena to say away for a month longer than intended, leaving Samantha to grow antsy. She has gone gun-ho in this new line of work, and spent more than Chance's petty cash allows on new 'toys' for the business, so she kills time and get experience and money by hiring on as security for an business expo.

The first day she is put on a detail to provide security for the CEO/Model of a family run spaghetti sauce corporation. Dominick Larocca loves fine food, is very family oriented, and is sexy male personified. But when he two grandmothers decide it is past time for him to settle down, they take matters into their own hands and announce Dominick is looking for a bride. When a man that looks like every woman's dream is coupled with a spiralling fortune, it seems every woman is ready to jump Dominick like he is a rock star. This is very distressing to the CEO, for he cannot even take a shower without someone crawling out from under the bed, let alone carry on the business he came to New Orleans to handle.

Sam has spent hours staring at the huge display of the bare-chested man on the spaghetti sauce presentation, but she is unprepared for the reaction of the wild women chasing Dominick, as she is unprepared for the man himself. She tried to calm her fantasies by saying the CEO is arrogant for appearing on his own product bare-chested. But as she learns about him, like the fact is was his grandmothers that used his picture without his knowledge, she begins to feel sympathy for him. So when he mentions he will need to hired a personal body guard while in New Orleans, she jumps at the chance, despite her misgivings due her personal attraction to him. She is professional enough to handle it and keep their business impersonal....isn't she???

Things soon steam up as Dominick makes it clear that he wants her not only as a body guard, but for her to pretend to be his girlfriend, hoping to stop the mobs of marriage hungry females.

What I like about Leto's writing is she presents strongly developed good-girls-do women, ladies who are not afraid to face romance and go after it, instead of blushing and denying...
Her men are sexy, to die for, yet are very down to earth...yeah, they are pure alpha males, but they are mannered, raised well gentlemen who respect women of all ages. She sprinkles her books with quirky characters, spices it with steamy love scenes, knows the difference between romance and sex and how the two go together. She breathes vibrant life into her writing, while drawning on her love of New Orleans and ethnic backgrounds.

You cannot ask for more than that!!!

A super follow up to Pure Chance!!

After reading Wild Child, Ms Moons new book, I bought a Chrystler and drove to La Paz, Mexico. I'm not sure why.

Her tender treatment of the Gerbils which were attached to air freshner cans by means of electromagnatic charges was mesmerising.

I was delighted by her proze in the chapter entitled "I love to play with Hot Roofing Tar". Best of all, like me, the main charactor loves to wrap steel-wool in tin foil, then chew it....kewl. Importantly the book under beta testing proved to be Y2K compliant.

Robyn Carr just seems to bring out the best in me. Her writing style is remarkable and she once again hits on life in the small town of Grace Valley and centers on the life of Dr. June Hudson whom we came to love in Deep in the Valley.

There is just so much to love about this novel but the one that I find interesting is that June's in love with a man no one in the "nosey" town of Grace even knows exist and she can't tell anyone, not even her father, as her lover happens to an undercover DEA agent.

If you're expecting a novel filled with violence and sex, this isn't the novel for you. But if you're looking for a novel about caring and sharing, where people actually about family, friends and neighbors -- usually whether you want them to or not, go pick up Just Over the Mountain. You're bound to be caught up in the magic as I was.

Grace Valley physician Dr. June Hudson awaits the return of her secret lover, DEA agent Jim Post, and gets a shock when her first love, Jim Forrest (yeah, two leading men named Jim...) returns to town divorced and ready to resume their relationship with his rowdy teenage sons in tow. Since she has remained single, everyone in town assumes she'll take up with Forrest, but she'd rather wait for the other Jim. When mysterious bones turn up, finally the small town has something else to keep them occupied besides her love life.

Not realizing that this story was part of a series, I was at a disadvantage. Undeveloped characters kept popping up in the story, and felt out of place. One main character was absent throughout most of the novel. And the romance itself was minimal. When compared to her later novels like "Never too Late," this one just falls short at 2.5 stars.

The male character in this book is too real! The love he is searching for is at his fingertips. I could not put this book down. As a male reader I could certainly identify with the main character Moses. Thanks for giving him such strong morals. I thoroughly enjoy reading your books in particular because the male characters are men we can look up to from Cousins, to Thems Eves Daughters and now Letters. You have a loyal fan!

This book took me by surprise. I was capitivated from the very beginning. I like the way you write about social issues very tasteful. The ghost scene threw me for a curve, but I quickly recovered. I could not put this book down. The dialogue flows so well. Glad I ordered it you have a loyal fan. Will order the next book. I'm sure they are just as rich.

Letters is one of the best books I've read this year. As a matter of fact, my husband and I read it together and it was a wonderful experience. We can't wait to read the other two books! This book is the bomb!

This book was absolutely wonderful! I met the author in Greensboro, North Carolina at her book signing and she is absolutely beautiful inside and out! Once I spoke with her I could identify with the passion I felt jumping off the pages of her books. Letters is full of excitement. It's a wonderful read. There are no dull spots in this book. Anyone would love it. I appreciated meeting Ms. Dick in person so much I bought Cousins and Thems Eves Daughters. I don't know which one I love the best. Anybody can get into these books.

Refreshing in the World of Modern Poetry

Readers do not often have the opportunity to encounter well crafted formal poetry these days, but Lion Sun is one pleasant exception. The poet's use of traditional devices such as rhyme, meter, alliteration, and anaphora is consistent and non-obtrusive, lending much needed form to the substance.

God is sometimes in the forefront of these poems, sometimes subtly resting in the background, and Christ's crucifixion is a frequent subject of meditation for the poet. The themes expressed are largely universal, though hardly trite. Lion Sun provides a much need break from the typical, personalized, self-centered poetry of modern times. As I read the collection, there were times when I was reminded of William Blake's Songs.

The beautifully designed volume contains 74 poems as well as several illustrations by Eric Young. As with any large volume of poetry, the quality of the individual poems is varied. Some particularly good works in this volume include "The Secret," "Mother and Child," "Craving," "The Voice," and "Empty Church."

Only seen by poets and saints

Thornton Wilder says, in Our Town, something like this: there are some things "seen only by poets and saints."

Read this beautiful book of poems and I think you will know what Wilder means! This is a book both poetic and saintly, a book of vision. Pavel's crafted and gifted words opens eyes and opens hearts. A good, good book.

For the last couple of years I've been enjoying Pavel Chichikov's poems on the Internet. He sees God, in all His moods, in our everyday world and in nature, and vividly puts Him in your face. Yet he displays an underlying sublety that manages to preserve the beauty and grand mystery of our Creator and His work. Sometimes dark, his poems always manage to convey the grand, hopeful and mysterious gift of His redemption. How delighted I am to have an anthology of his poems to carry with me and comfort me on my travels.

Poetry for the Catholic Soul

Mary changes Kopeks in a subway booth. Jesus cleans a chapelfloor. St. Christopher tells the story of his holy burden. Angelsstand at a forest altar in celebration of Christ's presence. The images of the ageless Church are recreated through the wondrous poetry of Pavel Chichikov in Lion Sun. This poet is able to illuminate the reality of faith in a faithless world while helping his readers understand the impact of Christ on good and evil in everyday life. Surely, Pavel's poetry has an air of phrophecy that causes the reader to look deeply into his/her soul in an effort to examine whether Christ's truth dwells there. Lion Sun is a treasure, and a perfect gift for a faith filled friend.

A Deeply Personal Spirtual Landscape.

Pavel's work is lyrical and intensely personal. There are observations of the physical world included in the verse [including a delightful response to the goldfinch in " The Small Musician"] but most of the poems are spiritual landscapes - poems that speak of a lively mind's encounters with guilt, grace, God, the World, the Flesh and the Devil. Observations of nature are essentially the beginnings of a spiritual insight so that a toad, a dragonfly, birdsong or storm becomes emblematic of a spiritual life that transcends the physical. In this sense, his work owes much to the nineteenth century Romantics; the same sense of the poet alone in the natural world characteristic of Wordsworth or Gerard Manly Hopkins pervades the poetry of Lion Sun.

Using simple verse forms, Chichikov brings a visionary style to the work. The poet's own voice is a constant feature of the verse. Many poems begin with and specificity the poet conveys. The weakness, perhaps, is that the poet may become baffling in the allusions spun. One sometimes leaves a poem curiously unsatisfied that the power of the message is lost when a crucial element is missed by the reader. There are few contexts in which to fix the poems. The works are largely undated and there is no introduction or biographical information in which to fix the work. Where the poems work well without contexts, they are powerful and winsome.

The spiritual landscapes drawn in the verse are often on the largest canvas. Saints and sinners, giants and angels, creation and redemption figure in the poems. Political features only intrude into the landscapes for their spiritual interest as in the sonnet The Voice.

Chichikov is at his best when he is most tender and personal, when the biggest allegories give way to the fine observation and instress, as Hopkins would have it. My favourite poem in the anthology is called Creation - a sonnet written for his wife Nancy. Like the person to whom it is dedicated, the poem is gentle, subtle and intelligent

The book is stunning in its design with an exquisite typeface and display. The illustrations by Eric Young are lively and attractive. This is a book that will puzzle, charm and inspire and deserves a wider readership than poetry usually commands

Wonderful Contemporary Romance!

Review Date: 2003-06-18
Shy Esme Jaramillo is so excited to be asked to speak about her work with gene cloning on The Barry Stillman Show. It is rare for a scientist to have so much exposure - and to be on television! Esme made sure that her mother, father and two best friends could be there for her to support her in the audience. She is a little uneasy after some questions that the gorgeous makeup artist, Gavino Mendez, asked her, but she was too distracted by Gavino's gorgeous looks and seemingly real interest in her. Before she knows it, Esme is out on stage and is horrified to realize that she is actually part of a beauty makeover show where they invite ugly bookworms to be made over. She cannot believe it when she learns that her co-worker, Vitor Elizalde, nominated her for the show. She immediately forces her way out of the studio and refuses to listen to Gavino's attempted apologies. Sure that everyone who has ever known her has seen the show, she retreats to her home in Denver, Colorado and limits her visitors to close friends and family.

Gavino feels terrible about what he helped do to Esme and knows that he needs to apologize to her. He quits his job and travels out to Colorado where he tries to make up for what he did. Esme is reluctant to accept his apology, but Gavino just has a way of forcing himself into her life. It would also help if she wasn't so attracted to him. She reluctantly agrees to rent him the studio apartment over her garage as long as they remain friends. Gavino is disappointed that she does not seem interested in him in a romantic way, but he is willing to follow her lead for now. He even offers to help her get a whole new look so that she can wow everyone at the employee dinner where she will run into Vitor for the first time since she was on the show. As they spend more and more time together, Esme and Gavino fall deeper into love, but neither of them is sure how to share their feelings. Several misunderstandings threaten to tear them apart and Esme seems to have lost all faith in Gavino. Can he make her see that she is beautiful just the way she is?

This romance is a classic Cinderella story, but written so beautifully and with such wonderful characters that you don't even care. Esme was a beautiful, caring woman who couldn't understand that physical beauty was nothing compared to who you are inside. She also learned that what other people say about you is not necessarily true and that you need to believe in yourself. Gavino was a gorgeous, sexy man who had a been a real wild child and was now finding that he could make a whole new life with this wonderful woman that he had found. Esme's friends, Lilly and Pilar, and Pilar's children were fun secondary characters (both of whom have a book written about them, by the way). The book was nicely written, with a well-developed plot and lots of hot scenes between the two main characters. Sparks were definitely flying here! A great read - go out and find a copy for your very own!

I adore this book!

Take a plain Jane heroine, throw in a Jerry Springer-like TV host, some excellent research on human cloning, two wacky friends, and a to die for artist, and you have what I believe is one of the best category romances of the year. LOOK OF LOVE had me laughing, crying, and wishing for more.

I was hooked from page one with this charming romance between a (supposedly) ugly duckling and a charismatic, drop-dead gorgeous artist. I identified with Esme and her shaky self-esteem, and fell in love with Gavino, not just because he was so devastatingly good-looking, but because he is vulnerable, humorous and kind-hearted as well. The interplay between this couple will make you laugh, and bring you close to tears in truly touching moments. A delightful, "can't put it down" read. Much like Norah Roberts, Ms. Sandoval has a flair for creating memorable characters that come to life and stay with you long after you read the final page. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I fell in love with the characters in this book. Sexy Gavino and sweet, smart Esme were like people I wanted to know. And I really enjoyed reading about something different -- she's a scientist and he's an artist. Great job from Ms. Sandoval. I can't wait to read her others in this series.

Esme Jaramillo innocently agrees to a guest appearance on a day time talk show, unaware of the real topic for the show. Instead of going on as a genetics expert she is to have a makeover as a male co-worker thinks she is sorely in need of a new look. This is a touchy subject for her as she sees herself as an unattractive woman, unworthy of any man's interest. Gavino Mendez, the show's make up artist, meets Esme prior to the show and is captivated with her natural beauty that shines from within. He is sympathic as he knows she is but a lamb being led to slaughter.

Esme flees the show in shame and heads home in disgrace. Disgusted with the show's antics, Gavino quits his job and takes off for Colorado to find the brokenhearted woman that had captivated him. He knows she will not welcome him with open arms for as far as she is concerned, he was in the enemy's camp. Yet he will not give up!

What a Latin hunk! From his long shiny locks to the diamond stud in his ear....to his warm heart, a true hero any heroine would be most fortunate to fall in love with. This wonderful story is what romance is all about.....love taking root, sprouting and growing strong. I hated to see it end!
