When I got this book (a friend loaned it to me) I thought, huh, ok, sure I'll give it a try. Wow, I had no idea how good this story was going to be. I could not quit reading. Michael was so faithful to God, and it had a huge impact on me. I liked it so much that I bought two books of my own; one for me to keep, and one to loan out. Everyone that I loan it to is so moved by this story. Way to go Francine Rivers. Please keep it up! BEST BOOK I EVER READ BY FAR! This book should be in the schools as required reqding material.

Excellent read!

My mom had given me this book saying, "This is what a real prince charming should be like." I looked at her funny when I realized what the story was about and was a little hesitant.

The book was fantastic! I couldn't put it down for one second (I stayed up till' three in the morning reading it). Even for those who aren't christians, I think any girl would enjoy reading about Michael's character. He's, in my opinion, what every girl wants in a man. He's loving, caring, gentle, compassionate, honest, romantic, and loves Angel more than anything in the world.

Considering that Angel is an ex-prostitute you have to expect some references to what her job was. There are also a few parts where her and Michael are making love, but it's after they have been married and Francine Rivers doesn't go into any details.

All in all, I loved the book and would recommend it to anyone who dreams of true love and likes reading inspirational stories. No matter what those other reviewers say, christian or not, just try it and I'll guarantee you'll be glad you took the time to read it.

Preachy, poorly written, and utterly predictable.

I think it's important that I preface this by saying that I am not a Christian (which had a definite effect on my opinion of this book, if only because I was able to look past the intended "inspirational message" and appraise it as a novel.) This book was recommended to me by multiple (devoutly religious) relatives on the grounds that I would like the love story and that they had cried over it.

First of all, "Redeeming Love" is poorly written to the extreme. It's full of choppy sentences and far too many melodramatic sentence fragments. All of the characters, and especially Michael and Angel, are incredibly dull: Angel is your stereotypical, self-loathing prostitute, while Michael marries her because a very articulate and surprisingly talkative God tells him to, displays no depth to speak of, and seems completely unable to think for himself. The plot is excessively repetitive and annoyingly redundant, and none of the "twists" were even mildly surprising.

Secondly, the book was a poorly disguised vehicle for marketing Christianity, which in my opinion degrades both the book and the religion. Some of the reviewers claim to have been moved by Angel's spiritual journey; personally, I felt Rivers relied on the faith of her target audience and the tragedy (or horror, if you prefer) of some of the concepts in the book- such as children sold into prostitution- as opposed to her strength as a writer or the relatability of the characters to produce that effect.

Many of the reviewers complained about the "graphic" sexual content in the book. I have no idea what they're talking about- the book I read was not graphic, and all the sex was either vaguely referenced or simply just implied. Much of it was in the context of marriage: I don't understand how the idea of a married couple having sex can be considered shocking.

I cannot believe that this book received over five hundred five-star reviews. It is not worth your time, it is not worth your money, and honestly, it is not worth the effort of five hundred people to type up a few mindlessly praising words on Amazon.com.

I am not an avid reader but found out about this book through a friend that told me how it changed her life. I was skeptical but still very curious so I bought the book. I finished it in three days. WOW. All I can say is that for the first time in my life I began to hear the Lord speak to me through this book! I could literally feel the presence of God's love all around me as I read this book. "Redeeming Love" has caused me to fall in love with my Savior all over again! It is a new and fresh love that I now have in my heart for Him! If you feel like you have fallen away from Him and miss His love and presence then you HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK!!! I promise, it will re-ignite your love for Him. He has always been there waiting on you to fall in love with Him again. HE NEVER STOPS LOVING US! It is US who falls away from Him! This book will prove that to you!

I love this book sooo much, it was well developed and the characters realllyyy had some depth to them...this is one of my favs besides 'liars game' and 'the other woman'!!! If you are just becoming a fan of EJD, you need to read this and then move on to others...lovedddddd it!

I have just complete this book and I must say I totally enjoyed it. Dickey captures the reality of relationships in a way that is sooo deep. The petty nuisances, the fights, the lovemaking, the distractions. He also connects on a deeper level by addresing issues which affect us in relationships (childhood experiences, past relationships) that come back to haunt us when we least expect it.

The one thing that was a little off was his time scheme where Debra was only approx 6mths pregnant when tragedy struck which made me wonder if the story was months old or years old. The time lapses needed to be a little clearer. Butttt it was a great read and I could not put it down (completed in two days flat).

LOVE this book!

I have read this book 6 times and counting (because I will definitely read it again). I just purchased the play last week and it's just as good. The way the story unfolds has you wanting everyone to win. Don't want to give it away but if you are sentimental you will cry, trust me. I am a fan of EJD's books and I knew this would be my favorite one before I read any other ones. A great buy that will not disappoint.

Do yourself a favor... READ THIS BOOK!!!

I have had this book for a while but just felt compelled to write a review on it. I have read this book so many times I have lost count. It is a timeless romance that would appeal to black and white, man or woman. This book is just an all around good read. I used to not enjoy reading at all & it was EJD's books that started me into the world of reading. Like a previous reviewer said it is not your ordinary happy ending romance but by the time you get to the end it is well worth the ride. You will laugh, you will cry, you will identify with the characters. If you ever wanted or needed to believe in love, and finding happiness against all odds then this is the book for you. Honestly....JUST DO YOURSELF A FAVOR & READ THIS BOOK!!!

Her writing is much stronger for the historical romance novels. This is a contemporary romance, and I don't think she captured the way people really speak to each each other quite right. She is definitely a favorite though.

I don't really go for contemporary romance but this I can appreciate. I really love the new cover as well and how Meredith and Matthew finally realise they still love each other and manage to overcome all obstacles, it just warmed me to my toes! I've read all Judith McNaught's books and can't wait for more!

I highly recommend this book and trust me, you will not want to put this book down!!

Deceit from outside forces pull these two young, tragic lovers apart but after 11 years, Matt & Meredith find that they were never truly divorced. Discovering the truth about what really happened and finding that they never stopped feeling for one another makes this story simply wonderful.

Matt's "proposal" to keep his wife was absolutely brilliant. McNaught does it again!

too much business ... a little of love

This is my first McNaught contemporary and based of all reviews here, I expected more. But this is not Paradise at all. Too long, too many details about business ... Yes, there are some typical Judith's traces just like big misunderstandings, strong tough hero, beautiful heroine, loving/brutal relatives and so on, but I felt something missed. And - sometimes I had a feeling I read about characters I've already known: Miss Stern is like Lucinda Throckmorton-Jones, Joe O'Hara like Jake, Patrick Farrell like Duncan, all from Almost heaven which I absolutely love. I think McNaught should stay at historical, but I'll give her another try with Perfect.

I hate to admit it, but I had 13 year old fan girl moments in this book!
I absolutely adored Zsadist and Bella. What a stunning relationship.

This was the most enjoyable book of the series so far.

I would rea it all over again..

Zsadist was just such a powerful vampire, but his past held him captive made him uneasy to be around, hard as stone, and very dangerous...until Bella made him feel worthy. This novel held everything..it was captivating, drama filled, griping, a tear jerker, and heartfelt...oh so touching(I felt like I was watching a TV movie). He was so sexy, thuggish, strong, a straight up ruffneck. I would read it all over again just to catch some of Z's world..the struggles...the pain..the tenderness...the awakening...the challenge of change.....the growth... the tears...the love.

3rd book and stll going strong!

J.R. Ward has got to be one of my new favorite authors. Her Black Dagger Brotherhood series is fast past, full of action and hot romance, and this third installment does not disappoint. This story revolves around Zsadist, a former blood slave, and the scariest memeber of the brotherhood. As he fights the Lessers to save and protect Bella, he begins to reawaken himself to feelings and sensations other than anger and pain. Loved it and can't wait to move on to the next one!

Highlight of the series

I don't see how JR Ward could top this book. Zsadist's story was absolutely fasinating. His history, his unpredictable actions, and his character growth. There was so much going on in this book, there was never a dull moment. I knew from Dark Lover that he was going to be the most intruiging of the guys. I loved this book...it will probably be my favorite. I can't wait to read about Phury though...

Good story and family of characters, but because I wanted it to be over, I gave it 2.5 stars.

Review Date: 2008-08-04
I was surprised that I wanted it to be over, because I love the family of characters and the conflicts with the bad guys. I'm having a hard time trying to define what I would change. I was impatient with Z's actions. Bella loved him and wanted him, but he kept refusing her throughout almost the entire book. He told her she deserved better than he, and he did mean things to her to break things off between them. Finally she moved away. This frustrating romantic development was a little too drawn out for me.

I don't mind the author switching around among three different stories, as long as she finishes each scene before switching to another. Most of her scene switching was ok, but there were a few that annoyed me. Two of them follow. On page 118, O stabs himself, and then the author immediately goes to two other stories. Ten pages later the author returns to tell what happened to O after the stabbing. This happens again on page 310. Phury is shocked at Z's appearance and tries to tell Z what is different, but Z walks away. We don't learn what is different until eleven pages later.

Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: nine. Setting: current day Caldwell, NY. Copyright: 2006. Genre: paranormal romantic suspense.

For a list of my reviews of other books by this author, see my 5 star review of "Dark Lover" posted 1/09/08.

Follows two relatives, who end up switching places in time, one goes to the past to be thrust into a plain time period filled with rough hard men, and the other into the future to find her way into the sensitive arm's of her granddaughter's fiance..and how they each deal with their alien surroundings and time periods..

I read this book about 25 years ago and have loved it ever since.

It took me years to track down a copy (this was well before Amazon and eBay).

This haunting tale will stay with you and leave you longing for the author to write a sequel.

I contacted the author and she said she still receives many letters about this book. She wrote in her letter that the picture on the front of the book shown above is the actual Gingerbread House in Colorado. Although the story is ficton, the house actually exists.

This book is perfect for a rainy Saturday, when you curl up on the couch with a cup of hot tea.

Just a warning, don't read it before you plan on going to sleep!

No, you won't be too scared to sleep and it won't give you nightmares, but you will stay up all night, because you can't put it down!!

Oh boy, I just know I will get the wrath of most reviewers but, I do recall at least a couple who will agree with me...but, it's my opinion and that's what this is all about.

now before you get the hacking at a response to me...I don't read any, as this is my turn. Next ...the book was intriguing for the first half, then got bogged down . where's was the editor was was it the author herself ? It could have been splendid . but, now this book will find it's way to the local library .

book goes into minute detail on some pages and goes on and on leaving you with the foolish notion there's a reason ( perhaps on the next few pages ? ) but, no, just for the sake of the author's desire . Like bout the scene with the candy store , over and over and yet, when a key character dies ...poof , maybe a small paragraph . one sentence they are here then the next it's like " oh by the way " my uncle dropped dead sort of thing .

If you truly like time travel to the past type books, as I do as well and do not mind reading detail all of which really matter to the story plot . May I suggest ............

" Time And Again " by Jack Finney , " Time After Time " also by Jack Finney . These books well thought out and done with care . I own old copies of those and " All About Time " short stories by Finney .

Also the book " Bid Time Return " by which the movie " Somewhere In Time " starring Jane seymour, Chris Reeve was somewhat losely taken from ...but,it is still a good read and now re-released under title of " Somewhere In Time " same as the movie , to attract new readers .
Give them a try .
Just my opinion after all, what sort of site would this be if every book had 5 stars ? what's the point ? most of you gave 5 stars which I based buying ' The Mirror ' ... I should have read the 3 star reviews a bit closer .

Review Date: 2008-05-02
This is my favorite of the Malory Series. Johanna Lindsey creates romance between the handsome Englishman James Malory and the beautiful American Georgina Anderson. Not only is James Malory a "gentleman pirate" but he is also a "connoiseur of women." Georgina has no intention of falling for the reprehensible rake, but she can't resist his bold, sultry advances. The plot takes the reader to England, the Caribbean and the New England shores. It is full of interesting characters, witty banter and steamy scenes.

Disappointing

Review Date: 2008-08-20
The extreme popularity of this book bewilders me. Though it is well-written and there are numerous opportunities for really heart-wrenching romance, Lindsey fails to capitalize on any of these, and the heroine--though not wholly unlikable--is just frustrating. Her failure to realize that James discerns her gender does nothing to recommend her intellect, and the way she childishly mimics his habits reeks of girlish infatuation. But for all that, her personality is not particularly offensive. Her naïve description of sexual arousal as a type of "nausea" is even endearing. No, my problem with Georgie is this: "Her temper wanted to flare, but when James rested between her thighs, anger was the farthest thing from her mind." This sentiment is repeated constantly, no matter how James deliberately humiliates or hurts her. I understand the ease in rechanneling anger into lust, but Georgie's legitimate problems repeatedly disappear when James kisses her into submission. He, in effect, sexually manipulates her into being pliable and content, and... it works. With no apparent resentment or even realization on her part. He treats her like a valueless sex object for the duration of the novel, and though it sometimes seems she will call him out on it, she ultimately does nothing. Instead, she settles for the "tenderness" she senses when they make love, a cringingly classic female mistake.

Making Georgie's ludicrous gullibility acutely obvious is the comparison to her brother-in-law and his wife. James mockingly refers to how his brother's wife withheld sexual favors during a fight, confident that his own wife would never do such a thing. Sadly, he's right. Georgie's internal dialogues, depicted as between herself and "her conscience," are invariably lost by her conscience and won by some hedonistic part of herself with no practicality and less self-respect. (James's ego is, admittedly, nothing out of the ordinary; but the delight I take in these novels is that the female usually manages to take the hero down a peg. George only lowers herself.)

In short, this book was difficult to finish; I had absolutely no desire for Georgie to have her foolishness unpunished, and I could not bear for James to have his misogyny and manipulativeness forever unchecked. The relationship was shallow and unsatisfying. Overall, a disappointment.

One of the best romance novels ever.

I've read a number of books by J. Lindsey and my two favorites are this book and "A Loving Scoundrel." Both of them have a girl dressed as and pretending to be a boy. I loved the characters. Good plot. Good writing. Great fun

CAUTION SPOILERS: Georgina was dressed as a boy and thought the captain (James) believed she was a boy. James knew she was really a girl but pretended he didn't know. It was great fun to watch James try to seduce the "boy". It didn't work the way James had planned because Georgina was so ignorant of sex that she thought she was nauseous rather than turned on. I loved the end where James purposely embarassed her publicly so her brothers would force the marriage.

Sexual language: mild. Number of sex scenes: five. Setting: 1818 London, the high seas and America. Copyright: 1990. Genre: regency romance.

Ranma Saotome is a boy who fell into a Jusenkyo spring called "Spring of drowned girl." Because of that he turns into a girl when splashed with cold water. (Hot water reverses the change.) He's not the only one though. There's his father Genma (Panda), Ryoga Hibikami (Black pig called, P-Chan), Mousse (duck), Shampoo (Cat), and more. Since Ranma can be a boy or a girl, you could guess he has many fiance's. As a boy he has, Kodachi Kuno, Akane Tendo, Ukyo, Shampoo and a few others that like him. As a girl there's Tatewaki Kuno, and some boys who like him. (as a girl.) Read about how Ranma got his phobia of cats, and how he goes threw life as half girl half boy. There are 36 in the series. I've read them all! So can you! Read Ranma 1/2, By:Rumiko Takahashi. I could'nt put it down.

They're father told them one of them would be wed to Ranma. When Ranma arrived they didn't see a boy but a young girl and a giant panda. Kasumi and Nabiki where disappointed, but Akane was glad for she hated men. Later that evening Ranma took a hot bath and turned back into a boy. The family was shocked. Then Saotom and Ranma sat down with them and told them about their horrible encounter in china. After that Akane was the one who would wed Ranma, because she didn't like men, so this way she didn't have to choose. Ranma and Saotom stood there for a wile longer. While staying there Ranma came in to many other enouncements.
My favorite part of the book was when Ranma thought Akane looked cuter with shorter hair because they start off hating each other but toward the end they start to like each other.
I would recommend this story to people who want a quick read and who like manga books because it is about a one day reading book and it a manga book. Also I would recommend it because it is a good book and funny too.

Ranma ½ is about great martial artist boy named Ranma Saltome. Ranma find out that his father and a friend of his father made arrangements for him and one of the three Tendo Children to be married, but once they meat Ranma is not he really is but he is a girl. This is because Ranma and his father fell into a cursed pond and every time Ranma is touched with cold water, he turns into a GIRL!

Ranma is now forced to marry a 16-year-old girl named Akane Tendo but they do not really get along. (Ranma think Akane is a tomboy and Akane thinks Ranma is a jerk) Ranma and Akane try to get along but something always goes wrong. This is mostly because Akane has so many admirers, which always leads to a fight.

Most likely Ranma ½ is my favorite book ever. This is because of all the action, romance and comedy there is in this book. Also, I love to read this book because once you get to the end you will want to read the next one and the next and the next.

In the book Ranma 1/2 volume 1 there were many things I liked and only one thing that I didnt like.
One thing I liked about the book was the amount of humor. one example of this humor was when Ranma and the upperclassman were fighting and Ranma kept throwing food at him. Another funny part in the book was when the girls sister sold pictures of her to the upperclassman.
The only thing that I didnt like about the book was it was a little short, but there are like 37 of the books in the series so that makes it o.k.
In conclusion Ranma 1/2 is a great book and I would definetly recommend this book to anybody that likes humor and action because this book has both of them and then some.

Revenge, feminist style

I should start off by mentioning that I'm a fantasy and science fiction sort of person. With few exceptions (such as To Kill a Mockingbird), not much else gets my attention, and Butterfly was not a novel I would have picked for myself. However, my wife being dyslexic, asked me to read it to her. That was about 6 years ago, and about halfway through, we got disorganized and I never finished. But it was on my mind ever since: how did that novel end? I ran across it on Amazon, and ordered a copy for, as I thought, my wife. However, it turned out that she already finished it on her own. Alas! But not a problem, I really wanted to get to that ending on my own. It's one of those books hard to put down.

Butterfly is a revenge story, yes, but it's placed in a radical feminist context. Danny is the principle antagonist, but he is only epresentative of an overallpatriarchal system that is hostile and subjegating toward women. The theme arises over and over, involving, to varying degrees, nearly every female character in the book. Also woven throughout the pages are the radical feminist themes of sexual segregation and sexual liberation, presented in what I consider the proper manner of denouncing the patriarchal system without denouncing individual men. The fates of the individual women reflect just as individually on how a male-dominated society has impacted them. Also interesting is the concept of power, how Danny sees it as coming from control and the Beverly, the protagonist, exceeds him by acquiring it through cooperation.

The characters seem real in both motive and reaction. There are two elements of a plot that I adore: interweaving several subplots so that they come together seamlessly at the end, and sudden twists and turns. This novel has both. It is compelling and absorbing.

** POSSIBLE SPOILER **

The ending is resolved completely and deeply satisfying.

My wife, though she did finish it years ago, plans to read it again. I don't blame her. I surely will someday myself. This is one of those books that stand out.

Great Book much more than the covers suggest

There is so much more packed into this book than the cover or the back synopsis infer. I found this to be a book about human relationships, humanity, society and inspiration. I have no idea why it seems to be classified as a romance. I loved this book and found so much inside all the pages that would be very worthwhile insight into human psyche and would be a great read for men as well as women. It is so much more than a fluff book, beach read or guilty pleasure.
I can't remember where I heard about this book, but it was just recently and can't imagine why I just heard about it since it was originally published some time ago. I absolutely loved it this book and can't wait to read Stars and Private Entrance. I wasn't able to find any of these three at any used book stores but of course found them here on Amazon. This one was worth every penny, is a keeper and will stand the test of time. I honestly don't know what "tag" this would fall into. Maybe I hadn't noticed it before since it doesn't easily go into a category, IMHO.

A must read!

This book is something that I have read over and over again. I first read it well over 10 years ago. I came across it again at a garage sale not too long ago and re-read it. It was just as good, I have since passed it along to all of my girlfriends who all loved it as well. Do not hesitate to get this. Just make sure you pass it along!

My first Nalini Singh book about her Psy/Changelings was just a fabulous treat. I loved everything about it. She created an incredibly complex world and she did it with such a simplistic, natural grace that the constant stream of information about the Psy/Changeling world wasn't forced. She allowed it to flow to me naturally, so I barely registered I was getting a ton of exposition.
The characters Lucas, the Alpha of DarkRiver, and Sascha, a Cardinal Psy was really hot. They portray their mating dance right from the beginning, two beings reduced to their most basic desires, circling each other as if searching for an opening.
It helps that I love changelings or any kind of weres. There's something about the animalistic side of a man coming out that gets me all hot and bothered, and when Lucas actually manifests into his animal...*shivers* HOT! Nalini describes the Changelings as a warm, hierarchical pack of men and women and the Psy as a society of 'perfect' beings who have surpressed all emotions supposedly for the greater good, so they can control their abilities better. Which makes them into cold, robotic men and women without the emotion to sense right from wrong, good and evil. Our Sascha however, with the help of the panther Alpha, Lucas Hunter escapes what is known as Silence and tries to start anew with the DarkRiver pack.
There wasn't a single character I didn't like. There wasn't any annoying personality quirks, no stupid plot contrivances by Sascha to prove she was independent and didn't need Lucas, no tree swinging male alpha traits that Lucas had to employ. This proves you can make a good book without relying on any TSTL moments designed to move the plot along. Thank God.
I love the descriptive words Nalini uses for the leopards of DarkRiver. They are catlike, sensual, they purr and rub and give love bites. I loved reading how the characters would curl up in each others laps and entwine in each other's arms. She really never lets you forget that Lucas and the other changelings are not men, but dangerous, predatory cats.
This was a great book and a great first book into Nalini Singh's fabulous Psy/Changeling series.

What does that mean? ;)

This book is a great starter of an outstanding series.
Singh's characters and plot have a dephts that is hardly found in romance and I REALLY like romance. :)
This book made me smile (about the scenes with the "unfeeling" Psy and the changling cubs), cry (when Sasha thought she was rejected by Lucas) and left me hot and bothered by the sizzling hot love scenes.
10 stars for my new favourite paranormal series.
Can't wait for September when Dorian's story comes out. (Nalini Singh does the best scenes with children.)

ABSOLUTELY SENSATIONAL!!!!!!! WONDERFUL WONDERFUL WONDERFUL!!

Naini Singh has created a marvelous new series with flawless combination of paranormal romance and sci-fi. The description of the two races - changelings and PsyNet are marvelously developed, in the amazingly gripping world that Nalini Singh has crafted and that draws you in from the get go! The narration is flawless, suspense in the story keeps you at the edge of your seat and the scenes between H/H are steamy and hot!

The Psy is a race of calculated emotional detachment, Cold Empaths with lethal businesslike accuracy. Psys have been conditioned to have no emotional attachment or experience any feeling - for any Psy found "flawed" has their link terminated from PsyNet remaining alive but pretty much dead.

Sasha Duncan is a Cardinal Psy - her mother a member of the powerful Psy Council. All her life she has lived in fear, as she has grown to believe that she is flawed and is always stemming feelings and shielding them from other Psy minds or she will be reconditioned.

Lucan Hunter is a member of the DarkRiver leopards - cats. He decides to bid for a Real Estate residential project that would be the first transaction in history between the Psy and Changelings. Not only is he doing it for the profit - being shrewd in business - but a serial killer has been targeting changeling young women and he believes that the killer is a Psy. More reason for him to try and infiltrate their midst.

In turn, Sasha is asked to supervise the project and study the changelings - as the Psy have little knowledge of that race.

When Lucas meets Sasha - he is drawn to her. She may be a Cardinal Psy - but there is something different about her. Soon his predatory animalistic alpha nature stakes his territory and Sasha and him are slowly drawn together.

After the killer takes another victim - a young woman from the wolf pack SnowDancers, rival changelings have to join forces in a race against time to save Brenna's life. Sasha is drawn into the fray - and both wolfs and cats have to rely in the powers of this unusual Psy if Brenna is to be found alive.

With SLAVE TO SENSATION - you will be touched by so many aspects of this marvelous book. The awesome closeness and bonding of the individual packs. Their sense of family coupled with their innate ability to demonstrate feeling and show affection, love and above all loyalty to one another.

The development of Sasha's and Lucas' relationship is a beauty to watch - simmering sensuality as Sasha slowly becomes "herself" and allows the feelings she has held back for so long run free with Lucas. Readers will fall in love with Lucas. He is all predatory alpha male, sexy and his caring for Sasha's well being and safety is touching and heartfelt.

I can't praise enough this new writer and this fantastically innovative and superbly crafted new series! I will devour the next book VISIONS OF HEAT - which has been on sale since March of '07.

Unfortunately because of my work schedule I don't get to read at the expediential rate I would like to, so it takes me longer to finish a book and always a day late getting into series!!!

Surprising, Well-written and Refreshing.

In the world of the Psy, perfection is absolute and anythinge else is punishable by death. The 'feel' or underlying theme, rings of the ethos purported by Huxley in his startling book, Brave New World. Thus, the purpose of Perfect Silence was to ensure that the emotion to hate and be violent would be wholly removed. In doing so, all emotions were conditioned out of these once human Psy, and have become a race of highly advanced beings, both technologically and especially, mentally. It has rendered them impotent of basic feelings, like love or sadness, and have given them the cold and ruthless rigidity and stiffness that they have become to be known for. And disdained by all changeling groups that oppose their way of living.

In this world of the Psy, all its people are mentally linked in the PsyNet, a network of psychic energy and the individual auras that feeds others and themselves. They cannot live without the Net.

The brutality, the rigid stiffness and efficiency that have marked the Psy is as real and frightening as Sascha Duncan knows it to be. She of all would know. Marked by night-sky eyes that designates her as a cardinal and high-ranking Psy, she has been hiding something that could get her killed: she is defective, in the most essential way. As in, the emotions that should not be there, are not only fully functional since birth, but none of the conditioning has helped her become more Psy. If any, it allowed her to build incredibly powerful mental shields to protect her flaw, and the fact that, being the daughter of a ruthless and powerful Council, Nikita, she will never live up to her genetics. An no one knows why but Sascha.

When given the charge of a multi-million dollar deal with a changeling race, DarkRiver, Sascha comes into contact with the lead project, man and alpha, Lucas Hunter. A cat as his form, and as a powerful alpha, he can sense the differences that mark Sascha as someone not quite Psy, even as the appearance of it confuses him. But Lucas' goal isn't to woo, but to sniff out a Psy killer, unmercifully murdering young changling women. Not just DarkRiver, but other groups, like his werewolf ally, the SnowDancers.

What is shocking is the fact of their instant attraction, which both try to rationalize and dismiss, only to bring them closer to both their truths. More contact triggers more mental breakdowns by Sascha that leaves her petrified and paranoid. Only Lucas' stability and his uncanny sense of understanding her, does she find some peace. But how can a Psy woman be trusted? And how can an alpha leopard learn that he may have no choice but to trust Sascha, and pray she won't betray him, or his pack? These are the questions that swirl around them and between them, even as they succumb to their emotions and growing attachments. Even as Sascha finally begins to believe in Life, not pure existence and the lies of her own people, she begins to open up, not just to love but understanding, and the joys and pleasures of feeling and emotions. Just as they've discovered themselves, Lucas might loose the one woman he's ever loved, to the terrors of the PsyNet, and the killer that hunts them all.

For a first time writer, Singh packs a heavy punch. The characters, from the primary to the secondary, are well developed and tangible. You really see them as real people, not contrived or artificial, but with hurts and pains that aren't any more terrible than someone you would know in real life. Life and emotion is the heart of this book, and the meaningful discovery of it by all the characters.

The plot itself is well written, and especially the world of the Psy and changeling interactions. Strange enough but close to home. She's also consistent in her renderings and had a wonderful and well worked out Psy and changeling philosophies as well as the workings of psychic ability and the PsyNet. There was a lot of care and attention to those finer details without too much overtaxing of the mechanics. However, the one quip I have was that there was a lot of repetition in terms of describing how Sascha and Lucas felt, certain re-telling of events but not enough to put me off. There were a few places soly dedicated to Sascha's emotional development and realizations, that at first, I wanted to say was unnecessary, but as you got to the end, I realized that without bits of it, her later actions and beliefs in doing them would have felt empty. However, it does drag in parts, saying in a few sentences and lengthening much longer than necessary.

This is a very dense read and not something you'll read in one pull. It's is not the sugar-coated versions, but has a lot of emotional and psychological weight that most romances are missing. Not that it's bad, mind. Singh is a nice change from the normal. It is sci-fi and paranormal, romance and addresses deeper issues that has plagued mankind since the dawn of time. I think you'll enjoy this book well after you've read it. Book 2, here I come!

I read quite a number of thrillers, some with a touch of romance while some were straight suspense by different famous writiers. Glad to say FRENCH's Chasing Demons is one of the best written books I've ever read. Her writing is tight; the storyline flows making the read so pleasant and smooth. I also liked it she has short chapters giving us enough detail to bring us scene after scene without sacrificing richness of the story. (Writers who like to overload with details or unnecessary verbage should consider learning from her.)

I enjoyed this book so much that I am seeking for other of her books. Those who love fast-faced thrillers should not miss this one. It is also a page-turner too.

This book was so exciting, I read it in one day. The ending is filled with heart-stopping suspense and nonstop action and left me breathless. Others have written short summaries, so I won't take up space with that, but what I took away from this book is it's one woman's journey from an abused woman to one who turns her life around and becomes strong and independent, and along the way finds true love.

This book is well-written, with realistic dialogue, characters you love and those you hate, and a plot that flies. And a real sweet love story.

I really like this author and am surprised she hasn't made it to the NY Times bestselling lists yet.

Wow! I really liked how this author wrote this book and I will look for other books by her now that I have read this. Her writing moves with the story without all the clutter and mundane details that so many authors use to make a book over 300 pages. Ugh! This is a larger paperback book that came to 183 action packed pages. The chapters were short and sweet and the suspense was WONDERFUL. I couldn't put this book down! And, I must say I really liked the tastefullness in which the intimacy was written. Well done!

I didn't give this book 5 stars because I just couldn't get into the characters. They were not real enough for me; not enough depth. They did not draw me in. But the book did read fast and there was enough action to keep it going. The book was predictable. It was like I new the steps that had to be taken before it could end. Overall, I think the book is worth reading but is is not the best out there.
