My daughter was introduced to this book when she was just 12 months. She is now 19 months and simply adores it. She insists that I read it to her every night. She refers to it as "Covis" and loves the part when the animals creep up behind Clovis while he's having a drink. She stands up on the bed an creeps while shhhshing with her finger against her mouth just like the ape does. It's too funny! I guess what I like about this book is that it has got a great lesson in it and it imparts it so well to kids. Love it!

I bought this for my 2 year old last summer. I'm still reading this one. Cute, creative, interactive(can play along). My son always goes diving under the blankets or behind my wife when I read pretending he is scared. My second favorite right behind "Russell the Sheep".

My daughter loved these books, I wish there were more since we've gone through both in the series. Everyday I'd pack her lunch, a pencil and one page from this book where there's a spot on the back of the page for a special note for you to write. I'm a single parent with a fulltime job but I did find the time to pack lunch with one of these pages - other mothers started coming to me wondering where I got the book since their children would play along with my duagher at lunch. Highly recommended!

This is an excellent way to get the kids reading, thinking and having fun at lunch. The Lunchbox Library "Six Wild Adventures" was really a better concept, with a storyline to follow and a daily installment including a synopsis of the story to date. The 9 Puzzle-Mysteries sometimes require the use of a pencil, which makes it not as suitable for "lunchboxes". Nevertheless, both volumes of Lunchbox Libraries are wonderful, the kids love them (and their classmates get in on the action). I only wish they would continue the series - we've been through both books and would love some more. This mom gives the books a high recommendation and thinks they are perfect for the younger crowd, too (ages 7 and 8).

I purchased this book for a college course, and I'm just about done with it. It has taken me from someone who'd never opened Dreamweaver in my life to being able to build a professional looking website in a matter of 2 months. I already had HTML experience, but had never used Dreamweaver software before. Highly recommended for a novice. The explanantions are detailed and easy to understand.

It has color pictures on just about every page! This book is great in that it explains just about everything and does not assume that you have any prior Dreamweaver experience, yet it goes all the way through to explaining Cascading Style Sheets and layers. It combines explanations with tutorials - it explains what you are going to do and shows you how to do it, so you are not just following directions blindly with no clue as to what you are doing.
Here are the chapter headings:
Introduction: Web Site Development and Macromedia Dreamweaver 8;
Project One: Creating a Dreamweaver Web Page and Local Site;
Project Two: Adding Web Pages, Links and Images.
Project Three: Tables and Page Layout;
Project Four: Forms
(Note that it covers how to set up forms, but does not cover the server-side coding you would need to process forms);
Project Five: Templates and Style Sheets (CSS);
Project Six: Layers, Image Maps, and Navigation Bars;
Appendix A: Dreamweaver Help;
Appendix B: Dreamweaver and Accessibility;
Appendix C: Publishing to a Web Server.
Note that this book only covers Dreamweaver. It does not cover Flash, Fireworks, or Contribute.
Also, according to the back cover, this book is part of the Shelly Cashman Series for Dreamweaver 8 that includes Dreamweaver 8 Introductory (meant for a 3-5 week course), Dreamweaver 8 Complete (this book) (meant for a 6-9 week course), and Dreamweaver 8 Comprehensive (meant for a 10-15 week course). I wish I had understood this before, because I probably would have purchased the Comprehensive instead, which has 3 more projects, although I do not know what those projects are.

the book is great. as other books from Shelly Cashman, this book describes in detail the steps needed to master dreamweaver.
one bad point that I don't like about Shelly Cashman series is that they repeat in every lesson a very easy step that any one who use PC knows such as :
to close the file click the X mark on the top of the page.
overall I recomend this book to people who never use dreamweaver before.

I think this book is well written and provides excellent detailed illustrations for book learners as well as hands-on learners. I'm not a book learner, but more of a hands-on learner. I appreciate that the author was thoughtful of the different types of learners who would be using this material.

This book is formatted nicley. One can just follow the step by step examples in the tutorials from beginning to end. Also, the provided case studies at the end of each chapter further reinforces what was learned within that chapter (if one attempts to do them). It makes the whole idea of designing web pages seem simple. Granted, you will want to be fairly familiar with HTML if you plan to use Dreamweaver often. This book is a wonderful teaching tool. I recommend using this book as an aid for anymone diving into Dreamweaver.

Interesting Exploration of More Advanced Flash Features

I am giving this book a five star review because it has some interesting content, and the author gives the material an original spin. The chapters on Flash 3D, XML, and Swift-Generator were very helpful and dare I say, sometimes insightful. In contrast, I wasn't that excited about the chapters on PHP and MySQL, but by the end, they proved interesting. My biggest problem with the book is its overall lack of organization, and personally, many of the chapters would have been helped by more examples. Bottom line - this is not a cover-to-cover read, but if you want interesting content on some of Flash 5's more advanced features, I would pick it up.

I vacillate between 4 and 5 stars...but it's truly a great book. The technical descriptions of various tools of Flash 5 are quite good. Mr. Woods handled the more complex ActionScripts very well, in ways that I could relate to what he was attempting to do...which was show the incredible versatility of the ActionScripts and explain ways I could utilize the programming. I learned (finally, still with some difficulty) to use the Bezier pen, thanks to Mr. Woods' enthusiastic endorsement, and was able to grasp many of the aspects of Flash that had been somewhat weak for me before. I have read many books on Flash 5 and cartooning, and definitely would recommend this book for a good underpinning of the basics as well as assistance with expert Flash development. Keep up the great work, Mr. Woods.

The Magic Handbook is a bit short on how to present magic, but the effects presented are very good. Many principles used by professional magicians are provided here, and all can be made fairly simply with easy to find materials. Recommended.

This book is very inspiring, and has helped me do a lot of magic tricks. I use a lot of it's tricks when I preform, and no one has ever figured them out. It is an excellent book and I think that all kids who want to be magicians will love it. It is also good for parents who want to impress their kids, but don't know how to. All in all, I think this is an A+ book

My new reader (first grade) can't get enough of this book. We borrowed a copy from the library and had to buy it to keep. Each interactive page entices the reader to keep going and help solve the mystery. My child reads this book to anyone who will listen. Our favorite page has a mirror on it to help decode the backwards message from one of the pull-out pages. We stumbled onto this book on the library shelf and I was surprised to see it in such good condition with all the pull-out pieces inside. This is a definite "keeper" book meant to be owned and read over and over and over.
A delightful mystery for young readers.

Mailbox Mice Mystery isn't really suitable for library lending but parents seeking a very special gift for a young reader will relish this caper which provides envelopes with clues for solving the mystery of the missing cheese. When all the cheese in Little Falls disappears, it's up to Watson Mouse to solve the mystery!

This book is a great, and I can't believe it's gone out of print. I consider myself lucky to have gotten a copy second-hand. It truly does allow kids to create costumes from stuff that is just lying around the house. Grocery sack cowboy (or girl) vests...you bet. Bath towel genies...check. Trash bag caped vampires...yep. (The only costume that's a bit outdated is the cheerleader one that used tractor-feed printer paper ends for pom-poms.) My personal favorite costumes were the Muscle Man, the Island Dancer, and The Equestrienne.
A must for kids who like to play dress up and for parents who don't want to spend a fortune on dress-up or Halloween costumes for their kids.

This cut-out was really fun to make. I do alot of the Usbourne cut-out models and this one is one of my favorite! The end result is something really impressive and is worthy of being put on a shelf for display. Great for teaching especially for homeschoolers! Difficulty level is about a 6.
Now where do we put it?

Sitting high up on the highest shelf of the tallest bookcase in my family room is an almost real looking, miniature Egyptian sarcophagus. Unbelievably, it's made of paper, glued together by my kids from a little Usborne cutout kit called "Make this Model Egyptian Mummy." I was more than a little skeptical when I ordered it. Boy, was I surprised...
First off, for them (and their mom) this was a highlight of our study of Ancient Egypt.
Second, they (and I) learned a lot about how these things actually looked.
Third, they built it without any adult supervision.
Fourth, they actually got along while doing it.
This is the way homeschool should be.
