"Imagine," is one of the most outstanding children's books I have had the privilege to review this year.
Inside the covers of this book, children will be able to interact as they imagine many different scenario's, for example; what different animals would look like with other animal heads or bottoms, and they will giggle up a storm as they give it a try. That is just the beginning of the fun as this read explodes into countless imagining for your child.
The illustrations are priceless and add flare to a book that is already top of the notch.
Parents, do not miss this one. Your children will be absolutely delighted with this book and it will give them hours of entertainment as their imagination soars. I give it my highest recommendation.

I love reading technology and since research is my life this book was among the many subjects I covered for my thesis in the creation of my watermark project. The book is highly didactic and the essential algorithm along with its elemental principles cite a uniformed approach when designing software. This is remarkably a great book.

This book is a very helpful for those who are interested in

Books on "Intelligent Communication Networks and Systems"
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2001-11-10
This book entitled "Intelligent Broadband Multimedia Networks" is volume 1 of the two volume set. The authors Prof. Syed V. Ahamed (CUNY) and Dr. Victor Lawrence (Bell Labs) have presented the topics in this book in a very easy to read manner without much mathematical treatment.

The book covers in depth about the evolution of intelligent networks with its systems design and architecture. Topics such as IN/1, IN/2 and advanced intelligent networks (AIN) are presented very well. The book also touches upon certain aspects of ISDN elements, wireless networks, knowledge processing systems, intelligent multimedia networks, educational and medical networks.

This book is recommended for graduate students in computer science, electrical and telecommunication engineering. Scientists and engineers would certainly find certain advanced topics covered in this book to be interesting.

The companion book for this book is entitled "Design and Engineering of Intelligent Communication Systems" (Vol. 2)

This is an era of Information Superhighway and emerging Global Intelligent Networks that is encompassing almost every aspect of human life. Whether we are at home, in an office, at friend's home, or in between, we want to stay connected irrespective of time and place.

Prof Syed Ahamed and Victor Lawrence have written two volumes on the topics: "Intelligent Broadband Multimedia Networks" and "Design and Engineering of Intelligent Communication Systems" illustrating the architectural designs, software and hardware requirements of these systems.

First, this is the first attempt by these authors to present the material combining data networks, computer networks, and different communication technologies with algorithmic and adaptive intelligence leading to Intelligent Broadband Multimedia Networks and Intelligent Communication Systems, and perhaps that is the solution of our ever growing desires for variety of services.

Second, the language used is bejewled, lucid, engaging, and appealing with penetrating metodologies, simplifying the complexity of the material by diagrams and flowcarts wherever necessary.

Third, the subject matter is designed specifically for the graduate students involved in research at Master or Ph.D level.

Fourth, the chapter on Knowledge Processing in Educational, Medical, and other networks is a unique and an elaborate exposition of the subject that is still unexplored.

Finally, I strongly recommend these volumes for the graguate students involved in research in order to benefit from the material as I myself did.

The main reference book on tele- and data- communications

Review Date: 2001-09-09
"Intelligent Broadband Multimedia Networks" is an excellent book about new emerging technologies and the future of data- and tele- communications. That's why it's a reference book of choice for many research scientists and network professionals at a well known R&D company like Bell Labs. And I strongly believe that it will still be for the next decade!
Prof. Syed Ahamed and Dr. Victor Lawrence put together a reference book presenting, in a systematic way, all aspects of modern communication networks, with emphasis in intelligent telecommunications networks (IN).
The book has 3 parts: - In the first part is presented the transition from classical networks to the more advanced intelligent networks. The approach of Bellcore (now Telcordia) and AT&T Labs, the 2 major players in the area of Intelligent Networks, is further investigated. Also the ITU-T standard for IN is presented, to better understand the current status and the evolution of IN.
- In the second part AT&T's Universal Intelligent Services Network and Bellcore's IN-1, IN-1+, IN-2 and AIN(Advanced Intelligent Networks) are analyzed in full detail: the architecture, functional resources, as well as supporting hardware and software. Intimate connections between IN and ISDN or wireless networks are also explored.
ITU-T's IN Conceptual Model is analyzed here in detail and a systematic presentation of Global Intelligent Networks, detailed for several country specifics, are given.
- The third part explores in many details the future evolution and applications of Intelligent Networks. The impact of IN on educational and medical environments are explored in full detail. In this third part the reader is also introduced to the very new concepts of "Knowledge Machines" and "Knowledge Processing Systems" as well as their connection with a "Multifunctional Intelligent Network". At the end the social and cultural impact of Broadband Intelligent Networks is analyzed.
The book has a very high density of useful information, introduces in all detail many new concepts in the field of communications networks, and it's intellectually challenging. Always, the systematic way of presentation makes it easy to follow complex technical concepts and their interrelation.
I clearly see this book and its companion second volume "Design and Engineering of Intelligent Communication Systems" as an excellent support book for graduate courses in communications networks as well as a main reference book for any research scientist as well as other specialists in the field of data- and tele- communications networks. Other categories of engineering professionals, eager to better understand new emerging communications technologies, could find valuable information in this book and its companion volume.
Also, philosophers can find a refined analysis about the evolving Knowledge Society, the impact of it onto the personal life, and the changes it may imply in the family structure, public sector, and corporate sector. Social workers can find in the book an authoritative voice in the social and cultural impact of future modern communications networks.

The best book on Intelligent Networks
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2001-07-07
Intelligent Broadband Multimedia Networks by Dr. Ahamed and Dr. Lawrence is a graduate level textbook. The material covered in this book ranges from defining intelligent networks to more specific coverage of educational, medical, and knowledge-based networks. This book is in three major parts and twenty chapters; each part contains several chapters. Part I has four chapters and discusses generic aspects of networks. It focuses on communication networks and computer systems. It describes fundamental concepts. It presents similarities and differences between intelligent networks and conventional networks. It also discusses signaling networks, data networking and communication networking, and evolution of phased intelligence in American public-switched networks. Part I covers the seven layers of the OSI model and their functions and X.25 public-switched network standards. Part II has nine chapters and focuses on recent and evolving networks. It defines wireless communication networks and intelligent networks (IN). It presents in great detail the three versions of IN/1, IN/1+, and IN/2 and their building blocks. It also presents global intelligent networks and advanced intelligent networks (AIN). An entire chapter is dedicated to ISDN. It covers other topics in great detail such as BRISDN, PRISDN, BISDN and ATM technologies. Part III in seven chapters focuses on future intelligent networks- educational, medical, knowledge-based, and intelligent home networks.

Dr. Ahamed and Dr. Lawrence have included design methodologies for putting intelligence into any communications systems. They include specific architectures that can be used by network designers/engineers and planners, telecommunications managers/professionals, and computer scientists. The breadth of the coverage of various topics makes this book suitable for use in advanced level courses on intelligent communications networks.

Intelligent Broadband Multimedia Networks (vol.1) and Design and Engineering of Intelligent Communication Systems (vol.2) were textbooks in two courses I took with Dr. Ahamed who was also my mentor at CUNY, Graduate Center, New York, NY. Both volumes are excellent textbooks for graduate courses.

The definitive EKG workbook and CD-ROM

Good news. You can stop contemplating which EKG tutorial you want to purchase. Through med school, residency, and cardiology fellowship I had used 9 EKG texts/CD-ROMs prior to finding Dr.Rimmerman and Jain's . Once I came across this incredible CD-ROM and workbook, I used it exclusively in preparing for the EKG portion of the Cardiology boards.

At the exam, many others were discussing the difficulty and time constraints of the 2 hour EKG module. Solely with the help of Dr.Rimmerman's text, I was finished in half the allotted time. By following the text/CD ROM of Dr.Rimmerman, I scored well into the top decile. Dr.Rimmerman is to EKGs as Netter is to medical illustration.

This text/CD-ROM had to take years to assemble and painstakingly reviews ~630 EKGs in three sections that are well delineated according to difficulty. The reader evaluates the hardcopy EKG and then codes his/her answer into the CD ROM. This is followed by immediate, constructive feedback through multiple channels. First and foremost, there are colored arrows that are displayed over the computerized EKG. Then there is an easily interpreted paragraph or two describing all of the intricate details of the EKG. There are also hyperlinks to similar findings in other EKGs. It kills me that I was unaware of this text as a student or resident. Quite simply, if you want to learn EKGs this text is MANDATORY.

This book is without a doubt for all levels. Allied medical personnel, nursing students and graduates, and medical students all the way up to electrophysiologists have so much to gain from this text. Drs.Rimmerman and Jain, through their meticulous attention to detail, have created the definitive workbook/CD ROM for learning EKGs. I am forever grateful to their endeavor.

This is an excellent resource. I am completing my cardiology fellowship, and this book/CD has quickly improved my ECG reading skills. The adage "practice makes perfect" is unfortunately not true for interpreting ECGs. If you are incorrectly reading ECGs, then you reinforce errors. This program includes about 700 ECGs in three sections, ranging from the basics of normal sinus rhythm to acute myocardial infarctions with left bundle branch blocks. You simply enter your interpretation of the ECG, and the CD checks your conclusion. It points out salient ECG features, further describes the findings, and provides hyperlinks to related ECGs in order to reinforce teaching points. "Perfect practice makes perfect." When used correctly, this tutorial reinforces the subtleties of ECGs and will enhance your clinical skills.
I recommend this book not only for cardiologists, but also for nursing students, nurses, medical students, residents, and general internists. Interactive Electrocardiography is my primary reference for studying for the ECG sections of the cardiology boards, however, it was the tutorial I needed as a medical student. I give this program five out of five stars and think it is a priceless resource for learning to read ECGs.

If you need something to "train" your EKG knowledge and become "skilled" this book + CD is for you!! Practical, easy to understand, exhaustive and very very useful for daily practice. The CD is well made, and fast so you can practice even if you have 5 minutes of "free times" in your daily practice

This an excellent book! A must have! I strongly recommend it to anyone willing to have a broad and at the same time in-depth view into the numerous concepts and APIs necessary for designing IDTV applications. Several code snippets are provided to illustrate how each API can be used: this can help save a lot of time as the DVB MHP and OCAP specs are a little bit large.

These audio CDs were a valuable addition to my unit. Students were able to hear the text's tone, inflection, and nuances and then more accurately pattern their own oral readings after that of the professional actors on the CD. The CDs also aided students' comprehension. I used them with Acts 4 and 5, and next year I will play the key speeches in Act 3 for students before we engage in role play. Students read along in their texts while listening to the audio.

I absolutely love this book, but I'm a knitter so I could be biased! I picked this up at my local yarn shop, and immediately fell in love with it. I have a 3 year old daughter, and it is by far the book she asks for the most often. I found the pop-ups to be very sturdy. She especially loves the page where Grandma knits the dinner meal. It's very interactive. The illustrations are just gorgeous. I have bought several copies to give as gifts, and I also bought an extra one for me! I highly recommend this book!!

My family practice physician "prescribed" this book for me during a very dark period in my life. It's short, practical and a very easy read. I make it a practice to re-read the book at least once a year.

While I've found the book makes an excellent gift for folks who are suffering, it's important for the giver to remember that reading this book -- or any book -- doesn't guarantee a magic fix. The reader must be committed to change. But sometimes when we're suffering, we're so overwhelmed that we don't know where to begin. This book has some mightily powerful suggestions.

This book has been my number one best 'life changing' book. I'm aware of the lies I believe, tell myself and unknowingly teach others. I wish I would have known about this when I was five. It's important to filter your thoughts, understand your behaviors and destroy the lies you tell yourself daily. Chris clarifies what's a lie and why and then empowers you, through Christ, to make changes and live in freedom. Walking in the truth is powerful...read his sequel to the book called, The Truths We Must Believe. Both are truly 'life changing.'

This program with CD's and book is incredible! Both my grandchildren, ages 7 and 9, have listened to all the CD's. If they're tense from too many activities or just over-stimulated by the TV or video games, I hand them the CD player and they listen to one of the stories. It always relaxes them and gets them back to balance. They like to listen to the stories before bed as it relaxes them, and they sleep better. Wonderful for all children but a must for highly sensitive children. I wish I had been given a tool like this as a child. My grandchildren continue to listen to the stories over and over again.
