The engine performance book was a big help in preparing me for the A8 exam. I had studied all the books and even spoke to people who took the exam to findout what I was in store for.

Nothing prepared me more than this book. The questions that were in the A8 study guide were almost exactly what was on the exam.

This is a first rate scholarly study of the the oldest aeronautics laboratory in the United States. Its strength rests in its understanding of how scientific and engineering research really works. It's a very dynamic story with wonderful depictions of some of the most colorful research personalities in the history of American aeronautics, e.g., Eastman Jacobs, Fred Weick, Germany's own Max Munk, John Stack. Hansen's sequel to this book, entitled SPACEFLIGHT REVOLUTION, is even better.

I used this textbook in the grammar analysis class I had to have on my journey towards teaching certification. The book explores the four approaches to English grammar: Prescriptivism, Descriptivism, Generativism, and Performance. Most grammar taught in public schools is prescriptivist, even though most of us speak and write in a descriptivist way. Generativism and performance explore the way the brain basically spits out sentences. Generativism and performance are also more linguistical in approach, owing a great deal to Noam Chomsky.

I found this book to be quite useful. It is informative, fairly easy to understand, and contains many valuable exercises. It's a great textbook to have for studying grammar and can be useful when studying linguistics.

I've read a lot of books about teaching English, but this one actually got me excited about teaching in the middle of the summer! It is realistic, and well written. Performance tasks are explained in depth, with standards driven examples which a teacher could use in class immediately. What is a performance task? Performance tasks are authentic assignments that are accomplished over a period of days or weeks and are more meaningful and rewarding than traditional tests and assignments, because they connect, communicate, and illuminate the outside world, making learning meaningful. Amy Benjamin's writing style is easy to read, and one knows that she is truly a teacher, not just a lecturer. I highly recommend this book to English teachers.

A well written assessment of EIA. Mr. Sadler looks at the difference between academics writing and talking about what "should" happen and what is actually feasible in a market capitalistic society.

On the other hand, this book is not a systematic methodology or "how to" for EPSS/PCD, but shows how best practices of the constituent disciplines come together to ensure performance. In simple terms, competency and performance are as much about creating work environments that are simple and effective as they are about raising skill, knowledge and abilities. EPSS Revisited shows how work process, human preferences, and information engineering can be brought together to form "the performance zone," in concrete terms.

Clearly, another book should follow that delineates and details an "ADDIE" (analysis, design, development, implementation, evaluation) process for EPSS/PCD. But for now, EPSS Revisited is a terrific first step toward embracing such a process in the mainstream.
