I used this as a basis for information and study while writing my master's thesis on the telecommunicaitons industry revolution. If you are looking into stocks, or interested in who-owns-who, this is one of the most interesting resources I have ever found - forget the magazine stand!

Written by expert music teacher Julie Lyonn Lieberman, whose programs have aired on National Public Radio, Alternative Strings: The New Curriculum is a resource book especially for stringed instrument music teachers that emphasizes learning to play popular contemporary music as well as the great classics. Chapters address the nuances of fiddle, blues, jazz, pop, and world styles for strings, and an accompanying audio CD demonstrates the work of a wide variety of string players and clinicians. An excellent supplement to the music instruction or even self-instruction of any string player.

This book is a comprehensive review of rifle design and performance that is both easy to read and has a great deal of common sense and sensible advice. Although it was written in the mid to late 70's it does not seem dated. An excellent reference or overview of all aspects of rifle design and performance.

Roger Huntington does a very good job of writing the story of the history of the American supercar. More than just an overview of musclears of the '60's, Roger Huntington goes further in depth by chronicling the heritage and evolution of the supercar up to the [early] 1980's. Although somewhat dated, this book is loaded with topics not found in other books on the subject. Huntington even covers the more obscure models offered as well as the engineering developments behind the performance. There are a few omissions in this book, notably the scarcity of information on Ford's 351 engines. There is nothing written about the 351 Windsor (not even its use in the Shelby GT Mustangs). There is very little mentioned about the 351 Cleveland (which was a high performance engine in disguise). There are no performance numbers appearing in the sidebar on either of these engines for comparison against their contemporaries. (come to think of it, this is true of some of the other makes and models as well.) Omissions aside, this book would make an excellent addition to anyone's automotive library

As of 9.04, I've read over 15 books on Yoga. This book offers nothing unique or new for athletes. In fact, it's profoundly clueless in this area. Weightlifters, runners, and other serious athletes have much to gain from practicing Yoga. I recommend just picking up either Hatha Yoga illustrated or a book by Baron Baptiste or Rodney Yee.

Toelken's book is an excellent study of the culture of America's first peoples. It is an eloquent discussion of how to learn about American Indian history and culture by looking at the everyday activities, traditional arts, folklife, and rituals that are shared with the public. Toelken's work challenges stereotypical and inaccurrate perceptions about Indians; more importantly, he shows ways to understand what other people have to offer when they perform their cultural traditions. It is also beautifully illustrated with gorgeous photographs, many of them in color. The book is written for both academic and non-academic audiences as an introduction into contemporary American Indian culture. I highly recommend this fine book written by an excellent folklorist.

APPROPRIATING BLACKNESS demonstrates a mastery of the field of performance studies and of the shifts and turns it has taken in its evolution. This fact makes Johnson's own observations about "performance" as trope all the more convincing and authoritative. This is the through-line that unites these essays into what a strong, rich, and important book to scholars working in performance studies, cultural studies, gender studies, American studies, and African American studies to name but a few areas. This broad appeal and significance represents Johnson's real success as an inter-disciplinarian where so many authors published today with such aspirations fall short. This is a very timely and impressively readable book presented with the air and authority of a scholar's expertise, but written in a style that is extremely approachable by general readers.

The Instrumentation Testing Association (ITA) for water and wastewater has produced a definitive, thorough test report of several area velocity flow meters. Since these meters are expensive, yet necessary for gaging sewer system capacity, this report has helped with considering and making the correct choices to fit specific flow measurement applications and, thus, well worth the price. ITA is an independent, non-profit organization made up of professsionals who volunteer their time and a very small national office. Independent testing reports like these for other instruments are available also available.

Samuel Applebaum's guide book for teachers and students of upper string instruments, "The Art and Science of String Performance," seems to be a largely forgotten book. I highly recommend this book as a return to basics and excellent explanations from the pen of a master string educator. Applebaum worked before the age of glamour and glitch, and this book represents the clearest and most straightforward descriptions of building both basic and refined technique. I would like to encourage the rediscovery of this valuable volume drawing upon years of seasoned experience with many talented and responsive pupils of a master pedagogue.
