If you've ever worried about exactly what to say at a job interview, worry no more! This book walks you through a wide variety of job interviews, and helps you anticipate questions you will be asked, and will want to ask. And unlike other books I've seen on getting a job, this one even guides you through interviews with job recruiters, plus how to handle job evaluation and promotion interviews once you've got the job and want to keep it, or advance.
Whether you are looking for that first entry-level job or a skilled position, this book has all kinds of appropriate things you can say about yourself, your training and experience. This book provides not just one but several realistic ways to respond to the kinds of questions you might be asked at an interview. Moreover, they are specifically tailored to each of the many kinds of jobs presented.
Scripts for Winning Jobs helps you sail through job interviews with confidence, and get the job you want. It even helps you through the tricky salary negotiations with expressions that diplomatically get you into the salary range you want.
This book is great for people who speak English as a second language, but is also extremely beneficial for native speakers going through the job search process. You can also buy this book with a set of 4 C-D's . It costs more, but listening to the interviews reinforces your reading and helps put the right words on the tip of your tongue when you go to your next job interview.

This is a non-fiction account of Shakespearean drama performed before an audience of carefully selected patient/inmates within the walls of England's oldest asylum for the criminally insane. Indeed, it is a most compelling compilation of true tales told by the actors, patients, and psychotherapists. When The Royal Shakespeare Company came to Broadmoor Hospital, the epistemological obstacles normally separating art and science were obliterated! From reading this work, one may know the dramatic power of the literary metaphor to effect a medical metamorphosis!

I have been enchanted with sighthounds since I was a young girl. I'm still in awe at how they've survived since ancient times virtually the same. This book covers sighthound breeds commonly seen at AKC dog shows: Afghan Hound; Borzoi; Irish Wolfhound; Saluki; Scottish Deerhound; ect.... But there are also fascinating histories of breeds virtually unknown in the USA, or even outside of their homelands. There is also information given on a few breeds believed to be extinct. Photos are not provided for every breed due to the breed's obscurity. The photos & line drawings are all in black & white; some are quite old so the quality isn't the best. I must add that this book is the only one I know of to date that includes information on the Silken Windhound! If you are infatuated by sighthounds as I am, I definately recommend this book to you! It's not for the casual dog person though.

Pay for performance explained

I first read this book for a graduate psychology class and have since referenced it in several papers and given several copies to business people I know. Basically, it solves the problem of how to align people's personal agendas (pay), with organizational agendas (profit). It also makes the manager more efficient because they no longer have to supervise employees as closely. It is important to note that the system described in this book is better than typical commission or piece-rate systems. Switching to this system will increase the profits of any company bold enough to fully implement the switch. Even if you are not a fan of pay-for-performance, the first seven chapters provide an excellent insight into why people rarely perform to their full potencial in modern organizations.
Excellent analysis of pay in a U.S cultural context.

This book verbalized some of the problems that I, too, (as a compensation manager) had observed within employee populations at companies in which I worked. It was particularly effective at describing the pay for time culture that is rampant among U.S. workers. The easy to read text was divided into short chapters that described not only the problem but also provided a solution through a balanced scorecard approach. One of the best books on pay that I have ever read.

The mini ATMs are comprehensive and very fun to do. Very user friendly.
Has improved many additional areas in my life as wel as improving my singing
I hope that this is going greatly increase my chances on "Idol" this year.

One of my top 5 favorite books of all time

This book is already one of my top five favorite books of all time, quite remarkable given I've only had it a few weeks. This book is a book about how to relax and sing with less tension in the voice. There are no "singing lessons" in the book and it won't teach you how to sing. Instead there are lessons based on the "Feldenkrais Method" of physical therapy, which is technique of gaining more awareness of your body through slow, stress-free movements. The Feldenkrais Method is most often used by people who have physical problems or people, like musicians, who want to gain a deeper connection to their body. As someone who falls into both of these categories this book has had a profound impact on me.
As an example of the insights in this book, it asks the age old question "from where does the singer sing," the typical answer being "the throat", or the "breath", or "the diaphragm." This book suggests that we sing from the "pelvic girdle" or by extension our legs and our feet. The idea being that our basic sense of physical support comes from there and if it is out of alignment (as it would be with someone like me with hip problems) then vocal strain and fatigue will result.
This book will be most useful for people who want to take a good honest look at their voice and how to change the way they use their body to help improve it.

I have just purchased my third copy of The Staircase. My previous copies were never returned to me by the borrows but still found their way to our towns' school libraries. John Templer, previously a professor of Architecture at Georgia Tech is emminently qualified to write about all aspects of the staircase. The evolution, history and trivial facts of the staircase are fascintating reading for all ages. The pictures will draw you to continue reading. The topic was so intriguing, I found myself wading into the engineering specifications, hazards (including famous people who died on a staircase)and safety issues. I never ascend or descend a staircase without considering the depth of the tread and the height of the rise, the height of the handrail. What a terrific school project appropriate for the 12 year old and over set. I can see them measuring the dimensions of the stairs in their towns' public buildings, gathering statistics on accident and injuries on these stairs and asking the town fathers why this is so!

The most useful software optimization book ever written

This is a well-written, easy to read and inspiring book that gives insight into a fascinating new technology - this is the most useful software optimization book ever written. As modern processors include many advanced features such as branch prediction, cashes with hardware prefetch, out of order execution cores, instruction level paralellism and intraregister vectorization, writing high performance software for such arcitectures is not so easy. In addition, most programming languages available today have not been delibetarly designed to take advantage of these newly introduced architecture features.
It is therfore fortunate that the second edition of the software optimization cookbook gives such a useful and easy to read introduction to software optimization on modern architecures. This is most important for the engineers that develop performance critical software applications but want to ensure high readability and easily maintainable source code.
For example, advanced compiler techniques such as profile guided optimization and inter procedural optimization, pedagogically described in this book, may boost the performance of your application. This is not surprising; cache misses may seriously obstruct memory intensive applications as memory is ridiculously slow compared to cache on most modern processors.
The Intel processors, together with the Intel compilers and the books from Intel press, significantly simplify the job for the software developers that struggle to increase the efficiency of their applications. My experience is that the Intel compilers, tailormade to the Intel processors, take better and better advantage of the advanced features in modern processors. Thus, the development of efficient software becomes easier and easier even though the processor architecture becomes more and more complicated.
Switching to the Intel compiler may significantly improve the performance of your application, thus there is no such thing as "change the compiler only"; the compiler alone may actually be responsible for most of the increased speedup seen in many applications. However, you may need to rewrite some parts of your code, as recommended in this book, to obtain a clear and readable compiler-friendly programming style - a too complicated source code tends to hamper the usefulness of the advanced optimizations available in the Intel compiler and reduces the source code readability for your co-workers.
