High Performance Futures Trading: Power Lessons from the Masters
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-04-05
The single most important variable to success in futures trading is not "trading systems," nor is it "the type of computer you have," nor "the type of inside information to which you might be privy." It is not "the amount of capital you have," nor "the broker with whom you are trading." The simple fact of the matter is that what ultimately separates winners from losers in the futures markets is "market savvy."

Unfortunately, market savvy does not come naturally to many traders, and even the most experienced ones need it reinforced from time to time. HIGH PERFORMANCE FUTURES TRADING: PWER LESSONS FROM THE MASTERS is an extraordinary manual that brings together contributions from the most disciplined, innovative and experienced minds in futures trading today. Written in a clear, insightful, informative style, it will assist readers in developing and successfully executing a disciplined trading approach.

A host of experts present what they know best. Bernstein on Seasonal and Cyclical Trading. Kneafsey on The Cambridge Hook. Roemer on Using Weather Forecasts. Schlifke on Investing in Funds and Managed Accounts. Babcock on Newsletters and Advisory Services. DiNapoli on Fibonacci Analysis. Lively on Market Sentiment. Dalton and Jones on Trading Logic and the Market Profile. Prechter and Frost on the Elliott Wave.

This highly useful manual also provides users with a complete set of appendices including a glossary of terms and a bibliography of books, newsletters, software, databases and advisory services.

HIGH PERFORMANCE FUTURES TRADING shows individual investors, futures/options traders, portfolio/fund managers and investment advisors how to understand and use the high performance trading systems developed by the experts and how to apply them successfully to their own investment programs.

If you are interested in boosting your futures trading performance, HIGH PERFORMANCE FUTURES TRADING may be the best investment you will make all year!*

Essential Elements of Futures Trading

In Indian capital market, a historic change is going to take place on July 2, 2001. Indian capital market has a system of carrying forward the trades done on the stock market till the party completes the delivery of cash or certificates as the case may be or squares off the transaction with a buy or sell as appropriate. During the carry forward period, the margin may or may not be paid by the investor, but he has to pay carryforward charges from settlemet period to settlement period. This practice is being stopped from July 2, 2001 and India will have a derivative market in financial securities in which only the players can take positions by paying margins.

Hence, there is a lot of interest in the country to read books on futures and options trading. People are moving from library to library to read books on derivatives. It is in this context that I came across this book.

This book is edited one. Right at the beginning of the book, the editor focusses the readers on the three essential elements of future trading: discipline, well designed trading system, and adequate capitalization. A chapter on discipline by Jake Bernstein stresses the importance of continuous effort to track the market data and act upon it. Kenneth Upshaw's chapter on conserving capital is a very useful chapter. In a recent seminar, a number of experienced brokers commented that clients in general do not like stop loss actions. That means many traders in the markets are doing a basic mistake. The call of the editor to traders to review the basics of trading is very appropriate. Eighteen chapters are devoted to discuss various technical approaches that were used by master traders successfully.

The last chapter summarizes all the chapters in the book and provides the common threads of the master strategies.

This book is recommended for study by every aspiring futures trader. Only difficulty could be that you have to find it in a library.

I was just beginning to read about Irish history, and was looking for a good book to start with, when I saw someone buying this handy little introduction. I promptly bought & read it myself, and wasn't in the least disappointed. I finished the book in a day, and yet, when I was done, I knew 10 times more about the subject than I had previously, enough to completely revise what I thought were my opinions.

This is a concise, well-written, and readable summary of the general course of Irish history. It's not quite "in-depth," but it's too thorough to be dismissed as a rough outline or anything similar. It's a sound elementary primer on a complex subject, and the perfect starting point for further, more detailed learning.

EXCELLENT BRIEF HISTORY

A REALLY GOOD BOOK TO GET THE GENERAL HISTORY OF IRELAND FROM A MORE OR LESS IMPARTIAL SOURCE. PROVIDES A VERY GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF THE SHAPING OF IRELAND'S PAST AND HOW IT INFLUENCES THE PRESENT.

The best part of this book was the amount of time that was spent with PRACTICAL data warehouse techniques. I throughly enjoyed reading this book, and I found it extremely useful in planning and implementing my Data Warehouse. I have all of the Oracle Warehouse books, and this is the one that I refer to most often.

A High Performing Book on High Performing Teams

As someone familiar with High Performance Work Teams (HPT) and what it takes to achieve rapid breakthrough results of 50% or better in customer, shareholder, employee, and operational value - all at the same time- I consider High-Performance Teams: How to Make Them Work a must-read. Currently, everyone who does business and organizational consulting uses the phrase High Performance, but this is the real deal when it comes to bona fide HPTs.

Hanlan's book is densely packed with information and examples of what works and what doesn't work when developing High Performance Work teams. It gives a history and addresses the theoretical underpinnings of HPTs. But it also explains how to create High Performing Teams and organizations, step-by-step.

High-Performance Teams: How to Make Them Work could accurately be described as a handbook for those who want to successfully lead and support teams.

The ONLY tuner resource for Neon owners/lovers!
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2006-02-05
This book is a must have for any discerning Neon owner/lover! It has filled the void for Neon tuners everywhere, there isn't anything else like it out there. This book is carefully written and progresses from one system to another and shows how each one works together to make your car achieve better performance (with balance). The only thing it doen't cover is automatic transmissions. The author is both knowledgeable, truthful and "gives it to you straight" in this book. There are no inappropriate ads for racing/performance parts/companies in this book either; the author simply gives his recommendations as to what he has found to work. This book is appropriate for all skill levels and is not full of technical jargon. The book IS a must for anyone interested in modifying their neon, whether it's for the street, drag racing or some serious autocrossing.

Doing well AND doing right

There's a lot of books out there talking about ethics, and most of it is surrealistic. You couldn't apply it in real organizations - you couldn't even apply it in the ivory towers where they're writing this stuff. There's also a lot out there on performance. Some of it even gives a nod to "being ethical." But this book is totally different. It's a book about ethics that will actually help you perform at higher levels. It has insights for individuals and for leaders of organizations. I really like the approach the authors take in going back and forth, one laying out the concepts and the other illustrating it with stories from his career. An enjoyable and profitable read.

On a day of June 2007, I flipped through as many business management books as possible -- on 8 fully loaded 6-foot Barnes & Noble bookshelves - because I was desperately in need of professional books to help me with my job. 60 minutes passed by, I couldn't find a book that I felt worth my money and my time commitment to study at home. I murmured to myself, "God, tell me which book I should buy.... my eyes are getting blurred and my legs are tired." a newly published High Performance Ethics suddenly stood out right in front of me. I slothfully opened to the middle of the book because I was too tired to start from the beginning. I was immediately engaged with Cantrell's perspectives on how to deal with various types of leaders, wise and especially unwise, when we have to submit to their authorities due to the hierarchy. I paid for the book at the cashier literally seconds after I first saw it on the shelves.

The layout of the book presents an interesting juxtaposition of coherent and convincing theories with Cantrell's real life experiences during his time as a CEO of an international business organization. Cantrell and Lucas are not only great writers but fantastic teachers. I enjoy so much gaining solid knowledge through reader-friendly writing style. I am well related to Cantrell's insisting on the importance of having both competence and characters as a High Performance Ethics (HPE) Leader. I couldn't agree with him enough because I have witnessed at many workplaces the negative impacts by people having either competence or characters but not both.

Through reading, by surprise, I realized that Cantrell is actually a Christian and a son of a local minister. I myself am a 3rd-generation Christian and a lay music minister for many years. However, the older I am, the more dissatisfied I become towards the church culture. In my observation, many Christians have been drawing an extremely bright-color line between Faith and Profession. On one side of the spectrum, many Christians are with little or no professional trainings (or intentionally avoiding high-level professional trainings). They quoted that it is harder for rich people to enter the Kingdom of God than a camel going through the eye of a needle. On the other side, many houses of worship are polluted by skilled Christians with undesirable characters.

Cantrell's life experience shows me that long term success is birthed by in-depth understanding of true prosperity and it is attainable and can be expected. He said "Prosperity, for those who haven't been given everything from the beginning, is a by-product of passion, commitment, and good thinking - and a willingness to limit desires. "The leader who basically focuses on himself or herself is going to mislead, "warns Peter Drucker. (p.208)" I personally was very encouraged by the book and therefore strongly recommend it to any potential readers.
