My wife and I read this book when we were expecting our first child. It was easy to read and very entertaining. It actually inspired me to write my own diary of our son's first year. I highly recommend it!

This book is terrific! My husband and I read it before we had our first child. Bob Greene got us super excited about the baby's birth! We tried to read it slowly, so we wouldn't finish much before we had out child. We give this book to all of our friends who are expecting a baby and they agree it's a must-read!

There are plenty of books that tell you what to do when a baby comes, but this is the only that I found that gave me an idea of what I could expect to feel like as a new father. As a husband, as a father, as a person inhabiting the planet, Bob Greene very simply describes how his life and outlook are changing during the first year of his daughter's life. He is surprised by what he can and can't do, remarks how his wife's focus has changed. As a reporter, he is surprised to find how his view of the world is different now that he has a small life in his charge.
Some of it is very funny: the helplessness he feels when his daughter first arrives home and how woefully unprepared they are (versus what they thought the instant before). Other parts of it are coldly chilling: Bob Greene's feelings about the mysterious Tylenol Killer anonymously killing people in the Chicagoland area mirrored my own concerns when I heard about the shootings at Columbine High School. Fatherly concern can only go so far and what happens when it's not enough?
My son is almost three years old now and my memories of the first year of his life are melting together into some generic feelings and a handful of anecdotes. However, I have a journal of my son's first year to look back on. That was the most wonderful thing about this book. Bob Greene is a professional writer, but this book made me feel like I could do something similar for my son and - surprisingly - it wasn't all that hard to jot down a little bit here and there as time permitted.
I like to think Bob Greene looks back at this book the same way I look back at my journal.

This is one of the very best such collections of letters I have ever encountered, and the author's own illustrations are a
priceless addition. An excellent work and a bargain at the price.
For those who want more, Charles W. Reed also illustrated "Hardtack & Coffee," by John Billings, another Union army veteran, about the life of the average soldier in the Northern army. Another sure-fire winner.

The author did a lot of research on the references in Charles Reed's letters. And instead of putting the notes at the end of the book where few read them, the notes are in the margins. It really added to the understanding of what Reed was writing home about. The author also incorporates the drawings from Reed which further adds to the book. Also incorporated are Reed's diary entries. The overall package made this an outstanding and enjoyable read. This book should be the model for all future books of this type.

"A Grand Terrible Dramma": From Gettysburg To Petersburg, The Civil War Letters Of Charles Wellington Reed consists of more than 180 letters and hundreds of drawings covering Charles Reed's period of military service as a member of the Massachusetts volunteers in the American Civil War from 1862 to 1865. This fascinating compendium, ably edited by Eric Campbell, presents the contemporary student of the Civil War with a wealth of information on the role of the Union army in the eastern theater, the events in the life of a typical Civil War soldier, as well as the progress and of the war itself. Reed's letters chronicle the common and the extraordinary with a simple, thoughtful elegance. His drawings capture a wide variety of events to which he was a participant. "A Grand Terrible Dramma" is an outstanding, invaluable, core title addition to any personal, professional, academic, or community library Civil War studies collection.

I've known about journaling for a long time, and I've used it for my own personal work and in workshops with others. But I learned a lot more about it from Dr. Neimark. In his very accessible, clear, friendly style, he describes and differentiates several excellent methods of journal writing, and how and why the technique is so effective for people working on self-discovery and change. I think this book is a must for anyone in the market for a serious attitude change from the inside out.

This book is a beautifully written way to journal to your inner self! Of all the self help books I have read (that is many) this one beats them all! ""Finally"" a book to help guide a person to the inner depths of the soul. Only one chapter about the author's life and his way of journaling. The rest is exactly what the Table of Contents states. Simple and precise examples and questions to help you in the reader's search for love and acceptance of oneself and the outside world! To help change our own view of our world and help to deal with life issues. Wonderful! A book I have been longing for for a long time! Sums up all those self help books! Well worth every cent because it will save me in the long run!!! If your looking for what Dr Phil talks about...This is your book! Already opening me up to another side of inner self (only read 3 chapters) and haven't written a word yet!!! The author has summed up a lot of what he has read and is doing in his own life into this book for others search for happiness! A MUST BUY!!!!

I highly reccommend this product. I homeschool my boys. We use Saxon Math, but they get bored of doing it all the time. I also have many other math manipulatives that we supplement Saxon with. This one is my boys' favorite!! They love it! They are only 9 years old, and the equations they are able to easily solve using the methods in this program are amazing. It gives kids a great beginning foundation for the algebra they will be introduced to later in school.
What a Great Start!

Since the pictures don't show whether the backs and fronts of pages are lined, as a lefty I wanted to write on both sides or just the backs, and this journal does have lines on both sides. The binding folds flatter than most, and the quality is very high. Would recommend to anyone for anything that they want to write down.

I love these journals. They first came to my notice when I was given one as a gift. The binding is beautiful and practical -- the journals open flat, making for easy writing. The smooth page surface allows my pen to flow.
My favorite feature is the little pocket on the inside of the back cover, for storing scraps of brilliance.

It's sometimes difficult to know until you hold a journal in your hands if its quality is worthy of your thoughts. Curious about this series of blank books, I located one in a Border's store so I could examine it closely, and was sold (though I actually bought several of various styles through Amazon due to the greatly reduced price and wide selection).
Just wanted to reassure any curious journal-keepers that this is a very nice book for having paper binding. The surfaces of the front and back plates are silky smooth, taut and very pretty. The spine, being sewn with strings, is tight, yet allows the book to lay completely flat when open. The pages inside are very smooth, practically non-porous grain, and of a medium weight, thick enough for fine-tip pen-and-ink, but too thin for any other medium of drawing or writing element. I'm usually a fan of leather-bound journals because they're sturdier and more aesthetically pleasing to me, but as paper-bound journals go, these are among the nicest I've seen.

What a gift it is to be able to help someone begin this wonderful process.

When my book arrived today I couldn't wait to get into it and see what all was included and to see the Great images I have heard so much about.
Let me list the things I loved:
1)the vintage-inspired set up and illustrations, they are simply charming and make you feel like you are filling out a high-end baby book, without paying a High-end price.
2)The included growth chart (I listed a photo in the customer photos section) I had NO idea that it was going to be a full 3 foot tall chart that I could hang on my wall! It's adorable.
3)It's gender neutral... even though we already know we are having a baby girl, it was nice to know that it would work EASILY for both.
4)It actually has room on seperate pages for you to put a picture of each month (1 - 12) and a little note about the highlights of the month. And,
5)There is a little envelope attached to the first haircut page for a lock of hair to go into. :)
Now, the only bad thing, is that there is no doctor page, so, you can't document their height and weight at each visit in the book... but there is a pocket in the back cover so that if you want to, you can list them and keep them in the pocket for safe keeping that's my plan.
All in all, I love it and would recommend to anyone!!

I cannot believe how cute this book is. It is kitchy and has personality and room for you to be a little creative. I personally needed structure with my baby book because if left to my own devices, nothing would get done and this book provides just that. The illustrations are adorable (the little fox in pajamas literally made me squeal with delight) and it comes with a growth chart and a little envelope for the first haircut. I bought it with the companion photo album and they are both outstanding.

The Hello Baby! Baby Book is a much more creative, sophisticated keepsake journal than any I have ever seen. We received it as a gift at a baby shower and we love it; we know our daughter will appreciate it when she's old enough to wonder about her first year. The illustrations by Eunice Moyle are beautiful and original. The book blends pages to record memories, such as baby's first smile or baby's first tooth, with pages for photos and other keepsake material. It also does not overwhelm parents with too much to do, important for new, busy, sleep-deprived parents. I highly recommend it!

This is too cute and too "purrfect" to use. I'll have to order another box to send cause I want to keep mine in mint condition! This is a superior product at a reasonable price. Hello Kitty is shown in varied settings: Paris, the tropics, swimming pool, pumpkin patch, flying an airplane, etc. Harry Abrams is the publisher and they make a lot of quality products. I am very critical and do not recommend things lightly. Highly recommended!!!
