The fourteen writers range from first time poets to tenured authors who have written in many venues. The topics are just as varied, ranging from political opinion to love. "Primera Pagina: Poetry from the Latino Heartland" is highly recommended for community library poetry collections with a focus on the Latino community. "La Reina of Chocolate Covered Cherries": Times many/ I made you cry/ because/ I wouldn't learn/ to make/ tortillas// womanhood/ measured/ by number of times/ you/ burn/ your fingertips/ on the comal.

Zaragosa Vargas has done an outstanding job in researching and explaining the historical bond Mexican workers have with the United States. His chapters on migration and the causes of northern migration from Mexico, as well as the hardhitting chapter about the plight of Mexican autoworkers in Detroit, in 1927 and subsequent years is non-biased and telling of this author's passion to fully explain, without political or racial bias. I highly recommend this book. I have studied race and population migrations to the United States, and those dynamics which influence and indeed sought and continue to exploit these populations. I was impressed with Vargas' handling of Diego Rivera and Fried Kahlo. The author does not bend to one side or the other of the political debate surrounding communism' repatration or the expectations of the Mexican worker. A fine text and a job well done. 5 stars and a hardy recommedation for PROLETARIANS OF THE NORTH: ZARAGOSA VARGAS.

All boricuas need to read this book. I repeat they need to read this book.
It will unveil the sacrifices that entail carrying Puerto Rico deep in
the heart. An outstanding reference book for everyone that loves truth.

I purchased this book for my 3 year old granddaughter. She is a big Dora fan and loves this book. The pictures make her feel like she is helping to 'read'.

Great book. Very cute, interesting, great illustrations. Well planned and very creative. Highly recommended.

Quinito's Neighborhood is a bilingual English/Spanish picturebook by Ina Cumpiano about the local neighborhood of a young boy, Quinito. Quinito knows that his neighborhood consists of much more than just buildings, streets and shops - its most important element is all the people he knows and loves, such as his cousin who studies how to make people laugh in clown school and his aunt who paints murals to make the streets brighter. The bold color illustrations by Jose Ramirez strongly resemble the simplified yet vibrant artwork style of murals themselves.
