"Guide to Correspondence in Spanish / Guia de correspondencia espanola" is a very up-to-date and useful guide for writing all kinds of letters in Spanish.
While the title suggests that the book might be completely bilingual, the book is written entirely in Spanish. There is a bilingual glossary included, but the text itself is not translated to English.
This book can be used by anyone with a good knowledge of written Spanish. It provides the fine points of etiquette and proper format for writing both business and personal letters. Best of all, the book includes many sample letters and lists of useful phrases and abbreviations. Each chapter includes practice exercises which make the book potentially useful as a text book

This book is a great reference guide to writing business correspondence in Spanish. It provides example letters that can be used in developing correspondence which recognizes the cultural differences in the style and structure between letters written in Spanish and English. This book has been very useful in my work of responding to customer billing disputes.

If you're looking for a reference book that will allow one to write the perfect letter in Spanish, then this 94-page book is for you. Author Mary H. Jackson does an excellent job of providing examples of letters written for personal and business purposes. This book, which is published by the great reference staff at Passport Books, is an inexpensive and useful guide to allow anyone to write letters in Spanish with little or no help at all. Of course, it would be helpful to have knowledge of the Spanish language before writing any letter, however if you're a student or someone who communicates infrequently with a pen pal, friend, or anyone else in Spanish, this book will allow you in your letter writing.
The book's compact size and price are extra reasons to purchase it. I also recommend "Cassell's Colloquial Spanish: A Handbook of Idiomatic Usage" if you want to improve your grammatical knowledge of Spanish. "Cassell's Colloquial Spanish" is the best book on Spanish grammar, vocabulary, and sentence structure on the market, and addition with the "Guide to Correspondence in Spanish," I can guarantee that you will be writing like a professional is a matter of time.

Hugo's does what many other self-study language programs don't. It builds up your basics with simple nouns before moving on to basic sentences and verbs, then verb conjugation. Instead of memorizing phrases, you're given the bits of speech so you learn the actual rules of the language, rather than parrot back simple phrases. This helps you to actually communicate, and your command of the language improves quickly. The cassettes are helpful in that you actually hear pronunciation by native speakers, but they are by no means necessary. I rarely use them except when I hit a lesson I need more help on, and aural study does help in this way. In the back is a Spanish-English/English-Spanish dictionary (my beef with this was it doesn't contain nearly enough words other than ones commonly used in this course). Therefore, I recommend buying a nice thick Spanish/English dictionary in addition.
If you can't afford the time or money for a class, Hugo's is definitely one of the best alternatives I've found. In addition, however, I'd recommend "Cliffs QuickReview: Spanish 1". What bothered me about Hugo's is, while it does a great job of explaining the basics/intermediate things about Spanish, it glosses over little things that a newbie wouldn't understand (ex: "Why do I put an accent here but not here?"). Cliffs QuickReview is a great reference for every tiny bit that Hugo's sometimes forgets to mention (and all organized nicely for easy reference ... as Hugo's is organized in lesson plans, it's not easy to find that one thing you want to review i.e. irregular verbs or BOTH past tenses).
In conclusion, Hugo's is the best I've found so far, and in two months' time I've definitely noticed an improvement in my Spanish. Just get Cliffs QuickReview and a Spanish dictionary to supplement Hugo's and you're set.

This is a good course, but you should know that there is no English on the tapes. So you have to sit down in front of the tape deck with the book in hand. That is the down side for me. I was looking for a way to learn Spanish during my daily commute - check out Pimsleur Quick and Simple Spanish. That being said what I have come to recognize from simply listening and repeating the phrases and words is that it's also nice to be able to look at how the word is spelled. So I'm glad I have both.
The book's title says all it, learn spanish in three months!

I have previewed many books designed to teach spanish. This is the best I have seen yet. It is sequential in teaching grammar skills, in a simplified manner. It also, uses repetition to teach you the words. There are self tests at the back of each chapter. I take and re-take the tests, until I get them %100 correct. Then I review them over the course of the next several lessons. It is self-paced, and appears to be very comprehensive. Within the first couple of lessons, I was able to use my new grammar and word skills in conversations with people who only speak spanish. I have rechecked this book and tape from the library 3 times. I have decided I must purchase it to have my own copy.

Whether you don't know a tamale from an enchilada or if you want to better understand regional nuances of Mexican cuisine, this handbook is for anyone smitten by Mexican food. The author has done a superb job of research and the prose flows like caramel on flan. A definite must read before your next trip to Mexico.

As fun to read as it is accurate, packable and irreplaceable, The Hungry Traveler for Mexico is the right book for anyone who enjoys eatings as much as traveling. The book is as much an appetizer for travel as for dining; I wasn't sure whether I was salivating more over the descriptions of the food or the thought of being in a place where I could eat such things. Forget your Spanish-English dictionary (it doesn't have important food terms anyway), and tuck this delicious little culinary guide into your pocket. The pronunciation guide is extensive and exact, and Marita Adair not only knows food, she knows Mexico and she knows travelers. It's as if you've found a good friend to eat out with--she won't lead you astray. You'll eat well using this book, you'll learn the nuances of dining in Mexico, and you'll find the way to the heart of the country.
A great gift for yourself or a friend who loves Mexico!

This wonderful book is written by someone who obviously knows both the country and its food-everywhere. It's amazing that so much food information could be packed in a book that fits in my pocket. This little jewel is essential for traveling in Mexico whether you think you know the food or know for sure that you don't.

I purchased this for my five year old and although I found it a little simplistic for her she's been picking it up and rereading it again and again. She likes the pictures and she likes to try to remember how to say things in spanish. Phrases are fairly easy for the most part. I would recommend this to anyone trying to teach spanish to their child.

I use this book fairly regularly to teach verbs and other vocabulary in my private Spanish classes. The phrases are simple, the pictures are nice and bright, and the students (ages 3-5) are able to "read" this in Spanish after only one viewing of the book! The phrases used go along well with my 4 year old's curriculum, Flip Flop Spanish: Ages 3-5: Level 1, and he often pulls this book out after his lesson (on his own.)
I also use this in my class for 4-7 year olds and 7-12 year olds for our five minute book reports in Spanish. They like it because it has both English and Spanish - though they can only give reports in Spanish, it assures them that they are saying what they mean to say!
Overall - A great buy with long life throughout early Spanish education!

This is a great book, because all kids envy each other at times. This story hits the nail on the head in a way that a child can understand. Great book!

This is an absolutely delightful story that captures the essence of the common childhood desire to be just like your best friend. In this book the main character, Rosa, not only wishes she had freckles like her friend Abby but tries to make them herself but it never quite works out the way she expects. The book is written in both English and Spanish and is a fun way to introduce children to another language. I Wish I Had Freckles Like Abby is highly recommended and wonderfully illustrated. Be sure not to miss the companion book, I Wish I Had Glasses Like Rosa.

Elementary school psychologist Kathryn Heling and kindergarten teacher Deborah Hembrook present I Wish I Had Freckles Like Abby, a bilingual English/Spanish picturebook a young Hispanic girl, Rosa, who wishes she had freckles like her friend Abby. How is Rosa to get freckles of her own? Chocolate pudding, maybe? "When I got chickenpox, I really did have freckles! They were red and itchy. I never want freckles like that again! I still wish I had freckles like Abby! But Abby wishes she had glasses like me!" Gentle color illustrations and an English/Spanish vocabulary on the final page rounds out this warmhearted "grass-is-greener on the other side of the fence" tale.

This book has to be the best or most important book of all written from Hagin. To sum it up in a few words, if you do not know who you are in Christ, this book will point to the scriptures affirming your identity in Christ. It shows where in the scriptures, we can find reference to what we have through Jesus, who we are, and where we stand with Him. This book is must, if you want to be success for God. Warning, the references will lead you to do a lot of homework after you read it, so its not for the lazy or the "read once" crowd.

My almost 4 year old son LOVES this book and even my 2 year old will sit through it. We are trying to get our boys to use more Spanish (mixed heritage) and this is a great way to do that.
Every page is full of brilliant Latin colors; we could stare at the pages and be happy. The language is rich and poetic- it breathes magic (or magica). It is mostly in English, but the Spanish words and phrases are put in a way that reader and child can understand them. There's even a glossary in the back so you can know for sure what the words mean and how to pronounce them correctly. It's even forcing me to remember that high school Spanish.
Beautiful book.

I love reading this to my 3-year old daughter. The pictures are so colorful and full of detail.
The language and tone is so fine. The author slips in and out of the two languages, Spanish and English so easily. It is the best way to read a story. It is fantastic for my daughter's imagination. She is flying just like Rosalba, just like we all did when we were young.
We also love her other book "Abuela".

I read this book and the author's other children's book (Abuela) with my daughters (ages 2 and 4) who both enjoyed them immensely. Dorros does a great job of mixing the Spanish phrases in and repeating words in both English and Spanish that the story flows nicely and children can pick up some Spanish very naturally along the way. The pictures are very fun as well. I highly recommend it, in fact I came here to look for more books by the same author but unfortunately, didn't find any. I hope he has more in the works, we love them!

It is a extraordinary book. It Gives you a perfect way to introduce you to Derrida's project (if it is possible to say a "project") of deconstruction and if you have already read something of Derrida it gives you a way of get deeper in Derrida's way of thinking.
Goffrey Bennington worked close to Derrida in order to achieve this book in a very faithful way to Derrida's thought. Derrida himself write the supplement (If you allow me the irony)of this book, it is very interesting see how Derrida think about himself.

I'll admit that it's hard enough to read Derrida, and I won't suggest that this is easier - in fact, reading this as a straightforward work front-to-back will probably lead to more confusion. But I definitely appreciate Derrida's paratextual manipulations and evasions of Bennington, who tries as hard as he can to pin down Derrida's thought at the same time. Bennington's topical arrangement is a great entre into the various subjects Derrida takes up in his philosophy, as long as you don't take it too dogmatically... and Derrida constantly comments in his running footnote to make sure that you don't.

It is clear that Bennington "gets" Derrida in this work. Bennington is easily one of the (maybe) 2 or 3 persons alive that are even nearly qualified to "finish Derrida's sentence." Everything I read of his is almost as if Derrida, himself, were writing.
Though an excellent look at exactly what Derrida is up to in his early days from Grammatology to Glas, this is not for the beginner. "Deconstruction in a Nutshell" by John Caputo and "How to Read Derrida" by Penelope Deutscher are better for introductory purposes.
This work was indispensable for me, as I was introduced to Derrida through his later works and had very little idea how his whole project began in the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
If you are fairly experienced in theory, I would recommend laboring through this work, then re-reading it a couple years later after further work with Derrida, Heidegger, etc. It will clear up a lot of question marks while opening up new, more exciting ones.

This is absolutely one of Derrida's most playful, revealing and important works. And one of my favorites. However, if you are just getting into Derrida, this may not be the best one to start with - unless you read it as a post-modernist autobiography.
If you are a student of Derrida, then this one is indispensable.

In a world in which everyone is thinking about knowing the most hidden secrets of the life, Borges, when is asked to give some advice to the younger generation, only says:
I don't think I can give advice to other people. I've hardly been able to manage my own life. pp 75.

He lived in Literature and Literature lived in him. Books were for him his truest friends and the secret intimates of his soul. When he spoke to another he spoke always to himself and to the books within him. But because he knew books so well and loved them so much all his speaking too became a book .And in the end even his final words there were books talking to books and talking to more books.
So for those of us who also love books , his particular love of books taught us so so much - but only in books.

Borges is great in in his writings, and almost as good in conversation. Witty, urbane, stylish, Borges shows that conversation can be as exciting as literature. Buy now!

This offers a series of interviews in chronlogical order (from 1966 until shortly before his death in '85) While he is good humored and self effacing he never lets you know more than he wants you to. There are also certain repetitons of ideas that occur, but anyone that has read Borges before will be used to that. To some extent it happans with most of the better writers in varying degrees anyways. Even with the repetitions it never comes across like he is doing memorized routines (which sometimes happans with William burroughs interviews)all in all important insight into the mind of an important writer.

Considero esta obra como un trabajo que no debe de faltar en cualquier biblioteca, ya que en un solo libro se habla acerca de las dos obras de Josefo: Tradiciones Judias y Guerras Judias. Cabe hacer notar que Josefo fue testito de sitio y destruccion de Jerusalem en el año 66 bajo lo romanos, al ser cautivo del en ese entonces general Tito, además de que fue oficial de campo durante ese levantamiento judio.
