Comprehensive coverage of internet basics. Very easy to understand. Good examples. List of resources for each discipline (psychology, sociology, social work, history, geography, political science, anthropology) is good. Makes a good primary text for internet research. Or a second text for use with social-science classes in information technology.

This is how Internet guides should be. A nice compact size that doesn't take up loads of desk space, but is still jam-packed full of advice and handy tips.

The book is amusing as well as useful, a rare thing in a computer related book. The author obviously knows what he is talking about when it comes to the Internet, but he also has the gift of being able to convey this information in a way that is neither patronising or boring.

The resources are also very useful, are well laid out and have informative descriptions.

If you travel at all, then spend a little money on this small book that's big on value. Highly recommended!

A Young Adult Book that introduces readers to the story of Baucis and Philemon and the Latin Language

A Walk With Ovid
By Jennifer F. Knapp
Publisher: JFK Online Studios, LLC
Published: July 1, 2003
Pages: 30
ISBN: 0-9742249-0-1

This wonderfully illustrated and written books tells the story of Ovid, a black pug, and his friend Lillian. They meet a boy who helps them and realize the meaning of Baucis and Philemon, a Latin poem, still has meaning today.

Ovid is name after Publius Ovidius Naso, who wrote poems in 43 B.C. to 18 A.D. which make up the The Metamorphoses. There are 15 books within The Metamorphoses that tell 100 different myths, including "The Story of Baucis and Philemon."

As old as these stories are, Ovid Pugnacious realizes during a walk with Lillian that the lessons taught in this poem are still apparent, even in today's times. While on their daily walk, Lillian and Ovid get stuck in the rain. A boy shelters them from the storm and offers the dog a biscuit, showing them great compassion. Ovid wants to return the favor, but upon returning to the boy's home, they realize that his wish has already been granted.

Although the story line is a great one, the book really teaches a lesson, just like the Latin Poet used to do. There are Latin texts within the book, that are translated within the appendix. I studied Latin in school and rarely ever get to utilize this knowledge, but was very pleased with the text and the translation. This is a wonderful story and book for any child to read or parent to read to the child. I have shared this book with my children and they now want an "Ovid" of their own.

This amazing book is available from the Publisher, JFK Online Studios, and is also available from Amazon.com

Love Found on the Internet Really DOES WORK!

Our story is in Cindy Brown's book. Bear and Debbie. Now into our 8th year together, married 5 years and still happy and going for the "gold!"

Read this book - it gives hope where none may exist. If you can't find love anyplace else, this book will show you that it is possible that you can find your soul mate with the click of your mouse.

Granted, I dated a number of men that I met online before stumbling onto the perfect mate for me, but I also managed to maintain good friendships with a few of those who didn't end up marriage material. So I gained all the way around.

This book is about love on the internet...some good stories, some not so good, some wonderful and heartwarming. But all in all, it shows that life is changing, the world is changing, and love on the internet is a part of those changes. Read it. Laugh, cry, enjoy the stories ...

I hope Cindy does a sequel!!

I had just about given up on finding, by any means, someone to spend my life with. I reluctantly bought this book at the urging of a friend. To prove to my friend that meeting people online is just a set-up for the impossibilities of a long-distance relationship, I started reading it. Then I couldn't put it down. My hope is restored. The love of my life is out there, and I am going to find him.

A very good read about modern warfare
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2003-03-26
This book explores life in the modern British Royal Navy through the eyes of their youngest weapons director to see combat in the 1982 Falklands War. Richard Gough was just 23 years old when the war took place seeing combat onboard the Type 21 frigate, HMS Ardent. Six years later as a Chief Petty Officer he helped protect British shipping in the Iran and Iraq tanker war that disrupted the Gulf region for nearly ten years. His final work with the Royal Navy was to direct the acceptance firings of the British fleets latest missile system, Vertical Launch SeaWolf, onboard the Type 23 frigate HMS Norfolk.

The great thing about this book is it is written by an everyday sailor that started ship board life scrubbing decks but quickly rose to a senior Chief Petty Officer and very experienced weapons expert. Until this book life in the Royal Navy was only explored from senior officerýs views and it is refreshing to read about life for the everyday guy who serves his country. The interesting thing about the writer is that he explains in a very understandable format the technology behind ships weapons as well as providing history pointers to his subject matter. I enjoyed this book and the excellent photographs that help illustrate the story, I fully recommend it to other Amazon readers.
