On a basis of an evolutive and hystorical perspective, Immune Crossover raises some new and original hypothesis about immunity and autoimmunity. Written in simple words, even without being a specialist you will be able to understand it and to enjoy it. If you are a immunologist, you will realize that "I.C." is a good book for opening your mind.

Nowadays unifying the increasing number of disciplines could be the key to reveal the secrets of those aspects of nature which remain incomprehensible to us. Following this line and containing some very original hypothesis, this book is an attempt to board immunology from a different perspective, a perspective that turns to be attractive not only for the specialized immunologist, but for anyone interested in the subject.

Ken Burke's book shows that he really "gets it", which is clearly why his company has built a growing stable of recognizable, national clients who will attest to the success of his Company's MarketLive application, which is driven by the methodologies spelled out in this book. Ken is obviously a dynamic entrepreneur who is sharply focused on providing an e-commerce selling platform that will drive sales results - in the real world, not in theory. A great tool for any firm considering how to increase their online sales.

This book allowed me to work with the interent in many areas. I have been able to locate information I did not believe existed on-line. Williams explains things in easy to understand language and then walks you through the exercise. The glossary is also very helpful for the computer neophyte. The attached CD installs Adobe Acrobat Reader and explains its many uses. I found this particularly helpful in downloading material on-line. This book is a must for any person wanting to use the Internet effectively.

A realistic SF graphic novel

I had previously heard of Aaron A. when I read the online issue of Serenity Rose at his art website, so I recognized his art style as soon as I saw the girl on the cover.
Kimmie66 is a soft science-fiction story about a girl trying to solve a mystery concerning her best friend, Kimmie66, who has sent her a suicide note. Unfortunately, this is difficult since people now socialize through "lairs" or a hi-tech version of a MMORPG, complete with virtual reality goggles.
The characters are interesting, especially Kimmie66. The heroine may remind Aaron A. fans of Serenity Rose - almost similar dress style, mannerisms, etc. The topic of technology and virtual communities would also appeal to modern readers. The art mixes a crisp, cookie-cutter style similar to anime or Junko Mizuno, along with a sketchy, horror edge resembling the works of Jhonen Vasquez. My only complaint is that it is not very long. I would have liked to learn more of Kimmie66 and her life outside of the virutal one, and a few things as well.
For the price of 9.99, I would say its worth buying.

The Minx line is supposed to be aimed at teen girls, but from what they tell me at Eide's Comics in Pittsburgh, a lot of books get picked up by regular comic book readers like myself -- older and male.

I picked up "kimmie66" by Aaron Alexovich a couple weeks back and only now got around to reading it. About halfway through, I caught on to what Aaron was up to and was astonished by where it was headed. The book is far more than one would expect for the Minx line or comic books in general. No, it's not as good as Straczynski's "Midnight Nation" or even "Spider-Man: Revelations" but I'd rank it as a "must read."

Praise for Aaron A.

Great art with clever storytelling

This story will be enjoyed by anyone who has ever experienced a meaningful relationship online: friendship, romance, or even a deep 6 hour conversation with a complete stranger. If you are thirsting for a book that helps you understand the mindsets of the new world we live in, this is one of those books. It may be set in the future, but everything in this story directly applies to the present day.

It hits home with the world we now live in; where physical barriers are becoming less important; where corporations are organizing international employee training sessions in virtual worlds, and are recruiting in Second Life; a world where you have close friends internationally but have no clue who your next door neighbor is.

Information and technological advancement is happening so rapidly that what a person learns in their first year of college can become outdated by the time they graduate. This book captures the modern feeling of infinite access, infinite exploration, infinite creation. In a time when virtually anything is possible (pun intended), we need stories that target, capture, explore and encourage that feeling for all generations living here and now on our very, very small Earth.

The story itself is as old as time: it is the story of friendship, understanding, self-discovery and growing up. I would go so far as to say that I think parents might benefit from reading this book, to better understand the world their children are growing up in. And to simply enjoy the book itself; it is truly for all ages.

I have started to keep Life Work Transitions.Com close at hand. There's so much good stuff here that I keep going back for more; turning over in my head what I've read; and looking forward to sections that I have not gotten to - yet.

Whether you're in the midst of a transition or trying to make sense of the constantly changing world of work and how you fit in, this book has the breadth and the depth to help you tackle the job. I like the tie-in to the Web site; but I like even more the balanced perspective that the two authors bring to the table. The book is both high tech and high touch, which in this "fast company" world of ours, we all need. This is a keeper.

Ritchie was a master

Review Date: 2006-03-01
He wrote few or no novels, but if you read Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine in the 1970s, you recognized a master at work. His stories are tight, compact jewels of plotting and wit, and the narrative voice always delights with its dry humor.

Tight
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2002-09-04
I've read another collection of Ritchie's stories, "The Adventures of Henry Turnbuckle," but this has more realistic, engaging, and concise stories, tales that range across the board from light humor to borderline Jim Thompson. The style is simple and straightforward, but the characters have little quirks that make them memorable. Certainly deserves to be in print again.

You may be bewildered, but you'll certainly enjoy yourself.
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2000-07-07
Ritchie's stories are spare (but describe everything)and macabre (but funny). His narrators are usually histrionic or extreme, but in a calm way, and arrogant, but likeable. Each plot sweeps along swiftly, but the journey is so enjoyable you actually want to slow down and savour the asides. As if all that weren't enough, Ritchie has a talent for the surprise ending, the little flick of that story that turns it completely over. Great and consistent skill is at work here, but some stories are standouts: "A Deadly Game of Cyanide" (hilarious on one page, chilling the next); "A Taste for Murder" (quite gruesome); and, as the previous reviewer mentioned, "The Killing Philosopher," with a terrific ending, one of the most compact, neatly stuffed and folded stories ever written.

Brilliant short stories

This collection of Jack Ritchie's short stories is unfortunately out of print, but if you can find a copy I suggest you grab it. "The Killing Philosopher," which may be my favorite in the bunch, is the best use of a really condensed amount of prose I've encountered. It's less than three pages, and it's given me a kick each time I've read it. Not a weak story in the lot. If you like dark comedies or twisted mysteries, give Ritchie a look.

Practical advice for staying safe online
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-01-22
Just as everyone needs to learn to cross the street without getting hit by a car, everyone needs to learn to use the Internet safely - and this applies even if you think you are a technophobe. Linda Criddle explains that installing protective software is not enough. Antivirus, antispyware and firewall programs won't do you any good if you don't know how to protect your personal information and avoid exploitation; you can damage yourself more than any virus can. Criddle organizes her advice into 13 steps, and she provides helpful "think about it" and "find out more" boxes as well as real-life examples, images of Web pages, diagrams and sample forms. getAbstract recommends Criddle's advice if you blog, browse, send e-mail or instant messages, or play Internet games, either at home or at work - in other words, to just about anyone who'd rather be safe than sorry.

A vital safety check-up for the whole family

Review Date: 2006-10-19
Linda Criddle has written the definitive parents' guide to Internet safety. As the executive at Microsoft who is responsible for idenitfying emerging online risks to children, she looks at the situation through the eyes of an expert and a parent--and then re-examines the landscape from the perspective of a potential predator, exposing hidden vulnerabilities that put us at risk for exploitation.

Criddle's book is comprehensive and specific. She alerts us to the ways that we are exposing our personal information to the general public, including instances in which parents inadvertently give away identifying information about their children. She is knowledgeable about the way predators use the Internet to identify potential victims and groom them, keeping in mind that online as in "real life" a predator is most likely to be someone known to a child.

"Look Both Ways" is almost overwhelming in its comprehensive scope. The book covers the latest developments in blogging, instant messaging, and online dating safety, as well as fraud scenarios including financial scams and phishing. Linda Criddle has written an essential guide that will help families develop skills and sensible limits that will ensure that parents and kids have positive Internet experiences. This book is an eye-opener and a vital addition to every parent's library.

Organized into sections on Marketing, Business Information, Promotional Materials, Government Information, Direct Mail, Web Marketing Strategies, Website Promotions, Software, and others, it contains website listings and some basic information on each site. There does not appear to be anything in this book that you can't find yourself on the Internet by using one of the common search engines. This is a great chord book, at first when I recieved it I was sure there wasn't going to be much in it because it was so thin but upon reading it I believe this is the only chord book you need.

Cons
- If you've bought multiple chord books in the past then this might not have anything new to offer, although it combines all others and makes it the only needed reference
- It's not small in size like those pocket or thin books, will fit in the body of your guitar case but its not small.

I am a full time, working musician. 5 years ago, i was not. I wanted to learn to play guitar and had ZERO experience (never even held one). I bought this book. After 3 months -THREE MONTHS- i was playing my own SOLO shows and i've never looked back. Since then (and a few more Mel Bay books) i've quit my "day" job and now have a band, a steady flow of gigs and i've independently sold over 8,000 copies of my first album!

I have copies of this book on hand at all times and whenever someone asks me (which is often) who is my guitar teacher, i hand them my Mel Bay Guitar Chords! I'm definitely living proof that this book is ALL YOU NEED to get started and i guarantee you'll be able to play at least 10 songs within the next 6 weeks! If you're serious about learning (or not serious and just want to check it out) see how EASY it is and BUY THIS BOOK. (oh and i recommend getting an extra copy or two because you WILL want to share it!)
