Genrally speaking, this is a pretty good book. I work in a marketing department and thought I would see if I could add some value to my efforts by looking at different ways to maket the printed material we distribute. The book offers plenty of great ideas, suggestions, and ways to go about this. You'll just need to pick and choose what you want to do. Much of the suggestions in the book will take a lot of leg work - like most things in life.

I started off hi-liting as I read, in green no less, the color of money, but I colored every page. I decided to sticki important hi-lited pages. Now every page has a green sticki. I am not exaggerating, well maybe a little, but the book is that good. I didn't realize how much I don't know about web marketing until I read Plug Your Book.
Now, I am off to the races taking one idea at a time to plug my novels, Standup Comedian: The Secret and Beyond, Beyond the Shadow of Death: Book One of the Adam Eden Series, and Return to Zero: Book Two of the Adam Eden Series. Thanks Steve Weber.

When I wrote my books (2000 and 2002), the marketing strategies that Weber describes largely didn't exist. Meanwhile time has passed, and it turns out these strategies don't just sell books -- they're a GREAT way of meeting interesting people and finding ideas and info you'd never have found otherwise. Weber got me excited about reading blogs (I had always assumed they were just a bunch of boring, misspelled rants -- who knew??), and then he gave me clear, concise directions for setting up blogs and communicating with other bloggers. The acid test: I've always hated marketing, but if this is "marketing," BRING IT ON! Great job, Mr. Weber!

This was the first book that I read in Lerner's Dance series
and I must say, it changed my life. The book teaches you how
to break out of the familial patterns that keep you stuck in
one position: the backseat. No, you won't become an overly
angry woman but I certainly felt like that at times. Instead,
it shows you where anger comes from and how to talk to others
without screaming at them. I learned how to become more assertive.
Lerner asserts that it's dangerous for a woman not to speak
her mind, however, society says that speaking out is equivalent
to being bitter or angry or anti-male. This is NOT what Lerner
wants women to learn but instead learn how to take a more
self-assertive position in intimate relationships. If, like
me, you had a problem in the past with being real at all times
and telling others how you truly felt, then please grab this book!

What an eye opener! I highly recommend it to all women. It's like seeing suddenly your blind spots - sometimes not pretty but what a relief to understand yourself better, to understand why we do what we do. I will give it to my daughter when she's adolescent. And to all young women in my family. Thank your for writing it, Mrs. Lerner!

I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to end the bickering. You know ... you argue about the same thing and no one ever wins - you just wind up shutting down and angrier than before. The author offers practical advice and lots of examples that anyone can relate to.

When I read a book that inspires me, I mark the pages that I want to go back and study again. Of the 232 pages in The Dance of Anger, I turned down over 50 corners. My first reading was in 1989, and I still go back and find reasons why this book made such an impact on my life.
The biggest lesson was to put more 'I' in my life. Then, to remember that I have a right to my thoughts and feelings; that no one else will take responsibility for me; that I cannot change other people; and that the only person I have power over is myself.
The Dance of Anger has to do with becoming your own person without losing others. Anger can be a tool for managing our relationships and helping us become our best. I have recommended this book to many friends who are angry--at themselves, at their partners, at their families, at their employers--and, who have expressed a desire to improve their lives. It offers many excellent suggestions such as 'The Plan for Reshaping': think about your problem; seek temporary distance from it; don't place blame, be vague, or tell others how to feel; appreciate everyone's differences; speak up for yourself; and use the pronoun "I".
Take the challenge. Read the book. Become your own person.

The book by Brent Sampson is very helpful and easy to follow. It is sort of like having a coach standing over your shoulder, giving you hints and pointing out little-known Amazon tricks. I dug right in and did some of the easy things he suggested to get more attention from Amazon.com for my own book, "For Widows Only!" I only wish I had had "Sell Your Book on amazon" earlier.
Amazon is where most people familiar with the Internet turn for information about a book and to order it. I have to hope Amazon doesn't get greedy and start limiting access to PODs and self-published books. I find that to be one of their primary assets, the one-stop shop for ALL books. I always know I can find it on amazon.com
I might not have thought to write a review of this book, without "Sell Your Book on amazon" suggesting such a thing. Simple to do, but quite effective. Recently I am beginning to get more reviews for "For Widows Only!" and I can see that this has affected sales. Readers beget readers. Amazon's review process is the old "Word of Mouth" system updated to the electronic age, and instead of influencing one person at a time, we might influence 10, 50 or 100! Who knows?
I suspect Sell Your Book... will be around through several updates. Easy to use and indispensable for authors who are trying to help their book sales.

The writing industry is just that, an industry. If you cannnot market your book then you can't expect it to sell. Brent Sampson demonstrates how to do that with one of the leading markets today- Amazon. com! Consider this a publishing book for dummies, a page by page look into the marketplace and how you can effectively get market placement.

Brent Sampson describes numerous steps that one can take to increase the sales of books through Amazon. These steps, most of which are not at all obvious to an author new to this type of marketing, are relatively simple. As such an author, I plan to implement at least some of Sampson's suggestions in marketing my book, "Extra-Terrestrial Civilizations in Our Neighborhood," which makes a serious estimate of the likelihood that one or more technical civilizations exists on a planet within a thousand light years from us. I purchased this book thinking I could enhance my existing Yahoo store with the information. This book is only useful if you use Yahoo's Store Editor program and the author states this in his introduction. I use another program Yahoo Sitebuilder, so I turned around and ordered that book too. The title is very misleading....this is really only a book about using Store Editor to build your Yahoo store! If that is what you need the book seems pretty useful.

This book is well written but tells me nothing about how to use Store Editor. I've spent hours reading the book with Store Editor open in front of me and I still can't get it to work like he says it will.
Store Editor is the worse program I've ever tried to use. It's very cryptic and navigation is illogical. I can use Dreamweaver but not Store Editor.

Usually Dummies books are helpful but this one didn't cut it. Not sure if it's the auther or just that Yahoo stores is too complicated. I thought I could avoid hiring a 3500 dollar store designer but this book wasn't detailed enough. It only covers the store editor, the author isn't supportive of designing your store with straight html or another tool. Yahoo's support isn't very helpful either. If you want a website to sell your goods on, Yahoo and this book is not the way to go. Good Luck.

I have been working with websites since 1994. But when I came to edit my first Yahoo store I thought I had gone back in time. I didn't recognize anything, it all looked foreign and I needed to find help quick. Online proved fruitless so I grabbed my keys and heads to the bookstore for "research".
There were a few books there on Yahoo Selling but I found the Index of "Starting a Yahoo! Business for Dummies" easiest to navigate to exactly what I needed. As I scanned the book though I found more areas in which I could benefit. Much more areas than I had realized I could even do with Yahoo! Stores.
If you are lost with Yahoo Stores you will find all of your answers and more in "Starting a Yahoo! Business for Dummies"!

If you find yourself stumped with how to improve your website, or don't know where to begin with looking at web statistics, this book has everything. It begins with going through the foundation of what web analysis really is and definitions and explanations of different metrics and how they can be useful. He then goes into detail with different metrics such as bounce rate, segmentation, and some things you probably never considered. It steps you through knowing what analytics tool to use and how to implement it. It has wonderful examples and sample reports that you can tailor to your own company.
This book is very actionable. I can only speak from a beginner's perspective, but this book is easy to follow and has golden nuggets that even experienced web statisticians can take another look at. The highest recommendation possible from me. I will be waiting for another of Avinash's books.

Thank you, Avinash! Avinash has done the impossible: he's made analytics fun, easy-to-understand, and clearly communicated how analytics is even more important than many of us have treated it. Avinash's "Trinity" approach of creating actionable insights & metrics from focusing on the right clickstream data, doing the right kind of customer research, all of which leads to knowing how to produce the right kind of dashboard. If you buy only one book on analytics, this has to be it.

In depth, easy to read, detailed from a web analytics pro. My only complaint is that he should identify himself as the Evangelist for Google Analytics. He recommends GA because it's free, but he should make it clear that companies that use GA are providing confidential company data to Google that could be used against them in the pricing of keywords.

I have read several web analytics books and Avinash's book is definitely the one I would recommend first.
What you can learn from the book:
- how to think about and how to approach web analytics -- this is where this book excels
- how to deliver actionable results - the mantra of Avinash
- how to start with the basic metrics
What not to expect from this book:
- you will not learn how to use any analytics software
- you will not learn details about the technical aspects, frequent problems with data and measurement, what to avoid etc.
Check out Avinash's blog to get a picture of what you can get from the book.

Before I begin I must apologize for the length of this review, I suffer from acute conciseness deficiency.
Avinash's greatest strength is his humility, and it comes through in this book and his blog in spades. All too often the broader analytic community (which I include myself in), is so caught up in its metrics, graphs, charts, esoteric calculations and acronyms that we forget that our fundamental purpose is to inform and assist in change. Even if we do not lose sight of that goal, we get so caught up in our analysis that we begin to think we know better than anyone else, including the people buying our products/consuming our content.
With the risk of sounding terse, Avinash cuts through all of that crap to right the ship as it were, and his resulting material can be summarized in 5 points.
1. Customers know best - should be self evident but really isn't (get over yourself and start trying to figure out what the customers want because you really don't know).
2. Capture data that can assist said customers - in other words, if the data and other pretty charts you are constructing cannot lead to an insight or action that will assist your customers; you're wasting your time. Yes, even that amazingly color coded spreadsheet with pivot tables and charts bursting out of every cell.
3. Quantitative data is limited in what it can tell you - another pitfall of the analytic community is that we're so caught up in numbers that we rarely stop to consider the source or validity of our observations, a particularly fatal flaw in an emerging industry with less than ideal methods of capture.
4. Context is king - When it comes to data, context is everything and a second piece of data, incorporated with the first, can have powerful effects. As a quick example, page hits, combined with bounce rate (a metric that measures how many people left your page within a predetermined interval), can indicate how many people are truly coming to your website to engage in its content). In other words, if you achieve a 100% increase in hits but 90% of them "bounce", you're not doing as well as if the same site achieved an 80% increase in hits with a 40% bounce rate. A very different conclusion would have been drawn if hits alone were observed in this case.
5. Qualitative data is a key piece of the puzzle - as a corollary of #3, a truly effective analysis of a website will utilize qualitative and quantitative data to help inform ones decisions.
Avinish then does an excellent job of showing how one can go about creating, analyzing and acting out ones web analytics strategy within the framework laid out above. If one has even a cursory understanding of how a website is built and therefore how to input a simple tag into the relevant pages, one can utilize this book to get started analyzing their web traffic in a meaningful way, for free, this instant. In addition, and more importantly, you will have formulated the solid framework and understanding necessary to adapt as the industry changes, something it does at an exciting/terrifying pace. An excellent read.
Those that are positive that this book is a fantasy and therefore will not be read by them really needs to think straight. No, this is not a fantasy, which did surprise me considering Ms. Snyder's passion for the weird. Instead, it is a book about those oh-so-classic themes of family, friendship, and growing up.
Snyder makes a wondrous world between two small-town friends who are as different as different can be. One becomes enchanted by the passion and creativity of the other, and this is a friendship that leads them through the changes of life.
It's touching and inspiring. A great girl book.

There are some typical "teen novel" elements but overall this is a great story of friendship. Shy, awkward, overweight and sensitive Martha Abbott is a misfit in her own shallow and constrained upper-middle-class family, who take her for granted. Martha befriends the vibrant, imaginative, and outgoing Ivy Carson, herself a misfit in her own poor, wrong-side-of-the-tracks, criminal fringe family. Their sometimes-misunderstood friendship nurtures and sustains them over the years, and their imaginary games help inspire their own inner talents. Even through separation and quarrels, their bond remains strong, and the reader can see how much each owes the other as they grow. A touching tribute to both the power and joys of friendship and the imagination. A blessing to see it's back in print.
Thrilled to see it back in print!!

This book gave me new ways of looking at the world, at myself and at my neighbors when I was 11 years old and read it for the first time. And the second. And the third... I don't think there are many American girls who could not identify both with Martha and with Ivy, in turns, as these tender characters vividly represent the dichotomy of female adolescence.
I have sought out, purchased and given away a number of copies of this book in recent years, and now that it is in print again I have just ordered two copies. One is for my friend's 14 year old daughter who lives overseas and has few options for books in English, and the other I will save for my granddaughter, who was just born. Her mother will re-read the book in the meantime (after I do) and we will both relive a wonderful experience which helped us cope with a most difficult time of life.

The Changeling is a very intresting book. Martha Abott goes through some tough times at Roosevelt High School. The Changeling is such a wonderful book. This book is confusing yet mind boggling. The Changeling's end is very sad. Sad enough to make you cry. Martha Abott meets someone who she thinks is from supernatural parents. When Martha spends time with this person, she discovers

Recently, was at the book store helping my 10y son look for a book to read, I ran across a copy of "The Headless Cupid" I bought it and asked to order "The changeling" but they couldn't get it for me, So I turn to the internet (Got to love eBay) and found it. I read it as soon as I received it. I've ordered several more of Snyder's books as well. Maybe my kids will enjoy them as much as I have.
I was 12y. at the time I first read it. I wasn't a "reader" this was one of the first I had ever read that I didn't force myself to finish. I lost myself in the pages. I felt a huge connection to Ivy our life's were so similar, she had a better outlook on life one I longed to have. Since then I have read a fair amount of books but none ever touched me the same way.

then this book is for you. And even if you are not a gambler this book is for you. I got this book after reading the description at the Gambler's Book Club website. The author's descent into gambling hell via internet poker was of particular interest to me. But I thought the parts leading up to that were quite engaging as well (going to the track with my father, aunt and uncle provide some of my fondest memories of my childhood). And when she finally does begin her downward spiral it is a harrowing ride. I read it during my lunch hours at work and cursed the clock when they were ending. Super book!!!

As much a book about gambling as it is about families, this is fun from beginning to end. Martha draws us into her addiction to poker and online gambling every step of the way, starting with sitting on her father's lap as a young girl, while he plays cards with his friends. We learn about poker's role in her mother's life, as we watch it take a more important role in Martha's. This is a look back into a life well lived, with a left turn into obsession, all told with great humor. You'll feel like you're hearing this tale across the table from your old friend during a long lunch. It's impossible to put down until you find out how all this ends! Great gift for a sister, mother or father-- it's filled with love, warmth, nostalgia and laughter.

I usually start a book, and read chapter by chapter each night. However, once I picked up Hats & Eyeglasses, I couldn't stop. You don't need to be much of a poker player to see the beauty in this book. The Family Love affair was very powerful. Martha's narrative storytelling is extremely visual. A story about facing addiction has never been so hip, sexy, and unapologetically funny. "Hats & Eyeglasses" is one of those books that will do something to you. The comments that Martha Frankel makes about the trials of being a human will make you look up from the page you're reading and look around for someone to talk to. The book is filled with small realizations and large observations that offer new perspectives on the hardships that people have, and, more importantly, the challenges that we all face.

Something for everyone that has an interest in increasing there traffic to there own site through Adwords. But the best thing not mentioned on the cover, is the "members only" site that gives the tools and chapter updates not found in the book. in addition, the followup emails give more insight than other experts give in a full day training class.
Overall, its highly recommended.
I also can recommend Perry marshall's book for a more detailed strategy guide to adwords.

I think a slightly better title for this book would be "Online Marketing with AdWords for Dummies". I say that because the book goes beyond just AdWords to talk about the peripheral systems involved. Personally, I was after purely AdWords information, so the extra stuff was just something to be ignored and bypassed.
That added material aside, if you want a VERY thorough walk through AdWords, this book will serve your needs quite well. It is dense, full of very useful information and techniques. The author also includes a great deal of supporting info and tools on a support website, which helps to keep things up-to-date.
All in all, a fantastic investment.

Covers 'how to' information around critical elements that an individual needs to start with when building their brand (vision, purpose, values, goals, passions). Deals with expressing and tying your brand into all of your career marketing tools (written communication, verbal messages, online presence)and more.

Career Distinction distills a lot of wisdom from marketing and career development into an easy-to-use process for describing your work identity and publicizing that identity without pain. Great! Well worth the price. Includes a online 360-degree assessment that you can use to find out what others think of you. If you go through this process, you'll either know who you are or you'll know that you need help to find out. Work identity is the core element, the rock foundation, to building a super career. If you don't know who you are, you cannot get ahead.

This book follows a 3 step process to build an authentic on-line identity that will get you noticed. The 3 steps are: Extract, Express, and Exude. Kirsten and William do a great job explaining why it is so important for professionals to build their own brand and get noticed. They also are very clear about how you proceed....it is a great "how-to" book.
I followed their exact process and am very pleased with the results. The Extract phase is incredibly insightful as it helps clarify your personal strengths and helps you understand how others see you. The Express and Exude steps just help you put your "brand" into place using a full array of communication tools.
Great book. Great insights. This is the new approach to career management.

"Career Distinction" is a must-read for any forward-thinking person who is even considering a career move. Personal branding has become an essential part of any job search and a key element of successful lifelong career management. Most anyone will benefit from all the useful information in the book.
As a Master Résumé Writer with 20 years experience crafting power executive résumés, I had already embraced personal branding as a cutting-edge trend in strategic résumé writing. After reading the book I improved my résumé development process to better uncover the critical brand-focused information from my clients that I need to craft a compelling résumé for them. The book reinforced for me that weaving their key brand attributes throughout their résumés differentiates them from the crowd and positions them above others competing for the same jobs.
In the first few pages, a powerful quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson sets the stage, "Insist on yourself; never imitate . . . Every great man is unique." This speaks to the essence of personal branding. Embrace what is unique about yourself - your personal brand - and communicate it throughout every aspect of your career. What makes you unique drives and reinforces your workplace value.
I also learned how to better identify my own brand and translate my passion for résumé writing and helping my clients succeed into a more clearly defined professional/personal brand. This helps potential clients distinguish the value and quality I offer from other executive résumé services. Developing my own brand was confidence-boosting and energizing.
Guidance is also given for assessing, correcting, and building your online identity, which is so important today given that more and more hiring decision makers are Googling job candidates before even considering them.
This is enlightening and powerful step by step intelligence that will improve any job seekers chances for landing a dream job.

As its subtitle suggests, The Virtual Handshake is all about interfacing with business and social contacts through the worldwide web. In my field (recruiting), the lines between business and social contacts blur since everyone I encounter might need either a new job or project, might know someone who does, or might be in a position to hire. Networking is not just about pressing flesh and passing business cards at a luncheon these days. There is a rapidly growing area of opportunity to meet people and make deals on the internet. However, please note that The Virtual Handshake does not merely expound the virtues of the internet or report results of deals closed and marriages made, the authors also make the technologies easy to understand and provide practical advice on how to use what's out there. Published in 2005, the book provides current information on various virtual options and their uses. The authors cover topic such as social software and services online; virtual clubs and associations; tips on managing the deluge of email; basics on blogging; effective use of email blasts without being perceived as a spammer; netiquette; privacy protection; and, of course, real-life examples of the use of the virtual medium. Easy to read and very useful, The Virtual Handshake is a primer for those of us who haven't been hip to the virtual world that's out there. It made me wonder if I've been living under a rock! The good news is it's not too late to learn, and this book will definitely help. I was so inspired by this book that I boldly went out there into the virtual world and set up my own blogsite!

The world is changing and so is business. The Internet, and various "Web 2.0" technologies, for lack of a better (or even good) name, are rapidly becoming an integral part of business and life.
The Virtual Handshake doesn't attempt to get you entirely up to date -- that's impossible, but up to speed -- that's far more valuable.
If you don't have any trusted colleagues you've never met in person or maybe not even talked to over the phone, you need this book. Even if you've spent a quarter of a century online like I have, you need this book. I learned a lot, and still refer to this book often. (If your secretary reads your email to you and you dictate answers, I suggest you retire or read this book ASAP.- You need help catching up).
After reading The Virtual Handshake, and I strongly suggest you do, you'll understand the basics, importance, and success guidelines of social software. You'll be up to speed in perhaps the most critical area of business change in our lifetime. The CURRENT wave of the Internet, and probably more important than the original commercialization and popularization of the Internet.
Hey, what's more interesting, the Big Bang Theory or How Life Came About?? This is the "How Life Came About" part and you'll learn about things like virtual communities and social networking, but far more importantly,- you'll know what to do. Actual steps you should take --- and plenty of case studies to help you understand their importance. Guidelines to harness the power of these new whateveryoucallthem.
Hint: be yourself, act responsibly, and remember you are the same person both online and offline and don't forget it!
There is a lot of valuable information in this book. Plan to read it, enjoy it, and then study it. And plan on concrete benefits.

The book feels extremely current. I was concerned, with the changing nature of the net, that almost any book would be immediately outdated. But the links he mentions are all alive and well, and nothing I've read in it feels old.
I can't yet say how much reading this book will help me sell my own (OUT OF THE POCKET -- to be released in September 2008), but I'm excited to move forward with a lot of new ideas he gave me!
