This is another awesome book in the series. There are some new added elements that can stop the sword. Bea goes on a quest
to find her uncle, the plot thickens. Tons of action and a must read/buy.

"Rylan the Renegade" is number six in Mike Hamel's Matterhorn the Brave time travel fantasy series. Matt, Sara, Aaron and
Nate have been assigned by Queen Bea and the Maker to guard the earthly portals of time and space. In this adventure they
go to a portal deep inside Greenland's icecap to enlist the help of Rylan the Renegade, who had been Crown Prince of the First
Realm. Rylan, his Talis, Travel Suit, and access to the Terminus room, hold the keys to the Travelers' survival. While in
Greenland they face Eric the Red and the Vikings who are trying to invade Rylan's people and to discover their secure and
secret home behind the portal.
Duplicity and traitors within the Praetorian endanger the lives of the young travelers as evil powers seek to rob them of their Talis. The Sword of Truth, the Queen's Dream stone, Ian's Flute, and the Traveler's Cube are all in danger of being stolen. The adventures that follow leave the reader in suspense page after page in an unpredictable plot of time and space technology, fantasy, history, geography.
The world's future hinges on Rylan's response to the need. Queen Bea does everything in her power to persuade him to face his responsibility of his past and to allow the power of the Talis to aid in the present battle going on within the Propylon.
In this exciting adventure series, written for young readers age nine through twelve, Mike Hamel's colorful imagination and insight into the mind of today's preteen reader combine to stimulate the active creative experience of living vicariously through the pages of brilliant story telling. A great read for all ages, youth and adult.

There are not words to describe how much this book rocks. My 4 year old son will actually sit and listen quietly to the beautiful,
lyrical poetry in this wonderful book. It is pure enchantment when read aloud.
The book consists of poems written in honor of various sacred sites around the world: Stonehenge, Easter Island, Delphi, and others.

Jane Yolen's text and David Shannon's shimmering illustrations come together in a lyrical, beautiful introduction to a collection
of sacred places around the world. A sense of wonder and mystery that pervades a sacred place like the Ganges, Stonehenge
or the Wailing Wall come through in a simple yet haunting manner that will touch children and adults alike.

One of my students discovered this book and loved it. It's now on my "great reads" list--books that every student will enjoy.
The book moves fast and is at just the right comprehension level, without skipping any of the science. Sally Ride is truly
an inspiration. The cover's a little blah and the photos are black and white, which may put off some kids, but once they start
reading, they won't stop.

The book shows a lot of unusual picture showing our planet. It made me understand the Earth more easier while I'm reading
the facts written in the book. Also, because of the great picture on the book, it made it more fun and interesting to read.
The book also, asked the readers to help our planet live by taking care of the environment which makes it a great and good
book.
I have learned a lot. I hope that make a new one with newer picture in the future.

Seen from space this Earth appears so very small & fragile, with a thin shell of atmosphere. With breathtaking illustrations
we soar above the world & are given a god's eye view. With watershed photos taken predominantly by NASA from the Apollo missions
& the Space Shuttle, this author has written a wondrous tour guide to the heavens. Awesome & fun! A must. END

Another Jablonski Hit!

After reading "Thicker than Water," I was eagerly anticipating the release of Carla Jablonski's most recent book, "Silent
Echoes." "Silent Echoes" gives readers two books for the price of one! The book seamlessly moves between the worlds of Lucy
Phillips in nineteenth century New York City and that of Lindsay in modern-day New York City. Both Lucy and Lindsay are endearing
characters, and it gets really exciting when their worlds collide!
Lucy and her father make a living using Lucy as a "medium," but their lives change when Lucy actually begins to be able to communicate with a "voice." Lindsay returns from summer camp to find her mother re-married. The lives of Lucy and Lindsay mirror each other despite the difference in centuries. Both girls help each other with the various problems that they encounter.
Jablonski's very well-researched novel fills both worlds with interesting details; (my favorite was the discussion of a "dancing chair" that Methodists used in the nineteenth century so that the opposite sex did not have to touch each other!) Anyone interested in the history of the city of New York will also love it! "Silent Echoes" should be on the reading lists of all schools. Not only is it rich in historical details, but it is complete with real characters with whom young adults from the nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries can identify!
Lucy and Lindsay often worry that they are somehow altering history through their communication. Jablonski's book cannot help altering history--it is totally awesome!!!

It's 1882, and Lucy Phillips and her father are running scams to keep a roof over their heads. Tonight is their first attempt
at a séance, with Lucy playing the medium. If it goes well, this could turn into a regular and profitable enterprise for them.
Planning only to play her audience with already acquired information, Lucy is shocked to hear a voice that no one else can
hear. Maybe she really has contacted the dead!
In the present time, Lindsay Miller is on the floor in her closet trying not to hear the screaming and the crash of dishes coming from the kitchen. Her mom is drunk again and fighting with her latest fling. Unfortunately, this one's not just a fling, this one's her new step-dad. If only there were someone, anyone, she could talk to. The last thing she expected was a voice with no form to come from her closet!
Lucy's new "abilities" as a medium are causing a huge stir. Her ability to predict the future is uncanny. She and her father are rapidly becoming more than financially stable.
On the other end of time, Lindsay's world is shredding to pieces. Everyone thinks she's crazy. They even tried to keep her in a mental institution! Now she's a runaway who's running out of money. And the only friend she can talk to is not only literally light years away, she's part of why all of this is happening.
Between the two girls, and across hundreds of years, can they figure out how to save each other?
This book was completely enthralling. The storyline is fantastic. The characters are strong and interesting. Their situations and experiences are pretty realistic. It's just such a cool idea; I'm so glad it was done well! It's really interesting to look at how a similar situation plays out so completely differently in two time periods; it's almost the opposite of what you'd expect. Normally you'd think "We have so many more resources now, and people are so much more open-minded. Obviously Lindsay would have an easier time of it." But that's not quite how it goes. Not to say that Lucy has an easy time. Oh, go read the book! I don't want to give anything away. Although I will tell you that the solution is really great!

My 15 month old loves Slimey. She loves to say "night-night, Slimey" and put him to bed in the little "spaceship" in the
cover of the book. Then we yell, "wake-up, Slimey!" and she takes him out. It is too funny! She is just getting into playing
along with the story. A very cute puppet and book! I'll be sorry when she outgrows Slimey. I've been scouring the internet
for other Slimeys with no luck.

My 18 month old has not put it down since it arrived. A Slimey finger puppet also comes with the book which is great for
kids to act out the story as the adult reads it.

When I was a kid, I was fascinated by astronomy, and this was my favorite book to check out from our local library. I loved
staring at all the big, colorful pictures and reading all the facts about stars, moons, planets, and galaxies. Now, I'm in
college, and I'm majoring in astrophysics. I'm certain that this book was one of the things that pushed me in the direction
of wanting to be an astronomer. It's a wonderful, comprehensive introduction to the subject, with pages dealing with all
of the planets, the sun, stars and their life-cycles, galaxies, space travel, and life in the universe. I'd highly recommend
it to any budding astronomers.

I often give talks on space flight to school children of the age targeted by this book. The subject of animal space flights
always proves a big hit with these young people, and the author has done a remarkably good, and certainly well researched
job in putting this book together. Most people can only remember the momentous flight of Russian space dog Laika in 1957,
but this book shows that our canine friends were being sent into space on top of research rockets well before Laika's historic,
but ill-fated orbital journey. Excellent photographs accompany the well-written and evocative text, and I have a feeling
that a lot of curious adults will find this book every bit as fascinating as its younger readers. I know I did.

Space Dogs: Pioneers Of Space Travel by Chris Dubbs is a fascinating and informative presentation of the canine contributions
(and sacrifices) that helped advance space travel technology and accomplishments from 1951 to 1966. From world-famous space
dogs, to the animals that worked and died unknown, Space Dogs offers an historical overview of the training, early flights,
and terrible accidents that befell these proud and companionate animals. Never-before published photographs from the archives
of Novosti, the Russian News Agency, are included. Space Dogs is very highly recommended reading for dog lovers and students
of the Space Exploration History.

This book is an excellent way for a little one to 'keep up' with the older children. "I like the aliens" says my three year
old. It gave him a boost of confidence when he was able to 'read' with me. It was kind of fun thinking that aliens would
think life on earth would be scary.
An excellent read and opportunity for interaction.

Both of my boys love this book -- partly because it's about space and aliens, and partly because they can both participate
in the reading. My five year old can recognize words that are repeated, and can easily remember phrases contained in the
book. He also enjoys saying the words in place of the pictures. My two year old is speech delayed, and the book really made
him want to talk. After seeing his big brother say the words, he began pointing to each picture and attempting to mimic his
brother by identifying each item. A definite success!!!
