My 7 year old grandson is a huge Star Wars fan. He loves these books. They seem to be written on a level where he can read by himself with some help from me. The illustrations are great and the stories are just long enough to hold his interest.

The release of Star Wars books for young people has always been related to a theatrical promotion. In a world that has a seen all six films, a new wave of DK Readers is much appreciated. It gives us comfort that even though the movies are finished, the Star Wars experience isn't completely 'done.' "Journey Through Space" isn't actually about space travel. It's about the places one can travel to in the Star Wars universe. It offers a tour of the major planets of the saga. The tour includes visits to the most obvious planets like Corusant, Naboo, and Tatooine. In addition, the books takes the reader to Geonosis, Dagobah and Kashyyyk. The scope is actually broader than planets per se since it includes the forested moons of Endor and Yavin 4. Most locations include a text box that shares a tid-bit of Star Wars trivia. The scope includes the entire saga. The illustrations were mostly lifted from all six films with some additional stills from the Lucas archives. While the pictures are high quality, the writing is also good. This new series has books for most levels of elementary readers. Given that most destinations earn a two page spread with about three sentences, this title is best suited to readers on a second grade level. "Journey Through Space" offers an exciting bibilographic tour of the galaxy's most interesting places.

I think this is a great kid's space book. It is broken up into specific subjects on each page. They get right to the point and they still make it interesting to read. My kids have enjoyed having it read to them.

This breathtaking full color glossy book has incredible pictures and information ranging from the "Race to the Moon" to "Earthwatch" "Mission to Mars" "Comets" "Star Life" and includes a fantastic glossary at the back of the book. It also includes: "Universal Facts" "Brightest Stars" (in order of apparent brightness) "Major Telescopes - Optical/infrared and "Major Planetary Probes" providing the name, nation, launch info, target, and result.
The pictures and layout of the book is outstanding, and it provides so much useful information, including "Beyond Time" "The Search for E.T." and "Impossible Questions."

I highly recommend this book to kids of all ages that are intrigued by the cosmos, and want a fantastic introduction to our solar system and beyond. Deserves 10 Stars!

Beautiful book; great for kids who love space "stuff"!

My almost-four-year-old loves all things space: Star Trek, space shuttles, Apollo 13, etc. I've tried to impress upon him that space isn't just "in the movies," but that someday, he, too, could be an astronaut...that people, have in fact, already "boldly gon where no one has gone before." This book proved an excellent vehicle for helping him understand that. While the language is too complicated for a four-year-old, he enjoys the meticulous paintings of the space shuttle's journey, from the Vehicle Assembly Building to the launch pad, then to space and back. An added bonus: He had seen paintings of the space shuttle in the exhibit halls at Kennedy Space Center, and wanted to "take them home." With the paintings in this book...he can do just that.

The drawings are excellent and the story is interesting

I really liked this book because it gave a lot of detail about the actual launch of the space shuttle, but not in technical terms, so kids could understand it

Life Space Crisis Intervention is one of the best kept secrets in the field of working with troubled and troubling children and adolescents. Drs. Long and Wood offer the wisdom of many years of successful teaching and doing. This book provides the framework for the most effective training program available for professionals in social services, education, juvenile justice, and mental health. The book is best used as a supplement to a five-day certification training in Life Space Crisis Intervention. Wood and Long describe a time-tested technique for helping troubled and troubling children and youth who are in crisis in their homes, schools, and communities. Life Space Crisis Intervention is a refreshing alternative to traditional techniques and provides effective alternatives to punishment. The authors describe how to use LSCI to use crisis as an opportunity for insight and behavior change. The book is most effective in combination with the five-day training program available through the Institute of Psychoeducational Training in Hagerstown, MD. My 3 yr old son is very interested in the space shuttle. This book is wonderful! I first purchased this series as a children's librarian. Our youngest readers loved these Rookie Science books. They always flew off our shelves. Now, it's great to share them with my son. We borrowed this title from our local library and we are having to purchase it to add to our collection. He doesn't want to give this one back! He actually "reads" Liftoff! by memory. The title will also benefit him later when he's a reader of text.

Stitch Lover's Must

Review Date: 2007-01-10
This is a great book for the Stitch Fan! I gave it to my 6 year old son who loves Stitch. He reads at a 3rd grade level and this book is packed with facts on the planets that keep him learning as he adventures with Stitch. The story is probably a second grade level, with a glossary and additional sidebar facts on all the planets- so the book meets a variety of reading levels. My 4 year old daughter enjoys it as well and can follow along to the CD. The pages are a heavy cardstock for even earlier readers. The CD starts with a little song that he loves to sing and he listens to the story in bed after lights out. The stickers and poster were a fun activity that we hung on his wall and is now fun educational art! Love the book and if your child is a Stitch lover it is a great choice- well, well worth the cost!!!

A great and fun book

This is one of my 3-year old son favorate books. We both love the colorful pictures, the poster and the story about the best friends, Lilo and Stitch. My son now knows the planets' names and order and also what is special about each one of them. We also like the audio CD that makes reading the book more interesting.

I LOVE THESE GUIDES!!!

Review Date: 2002-12-08
I am completely delighted with "The Little Guides" series. The format is extremely user friendly, and each guide is packed with useful and interesting information. I enjoy reading them, but my 6 year old daughter gives them the most use. While the guides are written at an adult level, there is plenty that she can read and understand. I currently own "Sharks," "Birds," "Mammals," and "Space," and have ordered "Reptiles," "Whales," and "Flowers."

"Space" is a great book to start you looking at the stars. It starts with a general tour of the universe, including stars, galaxies, and the solar system. The majority of the book is about observing the sky, with charts for about 100 constellations. The final part of the book discusses space exploration. A pronunciation is given for each constellation, as well as the history (and mythology) of the constellation, and what type of equipment is needed to see different stars in the constellation (binoculars or what power telescope).

This is a great resource of adults as well as children!

An easy to read, enjoyable, and funny story that has a lesson too. It was my favorite in 4th grade (along with Homer Price) and now it's one of my 9-year old's favorites too. Innocent without being sappy, and full of clever technological misperceptions about Earth by lunar inhabitant Matthew Looney and his family. As a bonus, fabulous cartoon illustrations by Gahan WIlson put this one over the top.

A great children's book!

This is an extremely good book. I'm thirteen years old, and still read my Mom's old copy with great enjoyment. I only wish that I could find copies somewhere for my own. The plot is simple, yet has no cheesy parts. When I was younger, I really loved all the military might of the Moonsters as well as the space technology that didn't blow my mind. I won't spill all of the plot, but basically Earth accidentally threatens the Moon (which is habitated) with a missile(satelite). The Moonsters then take an expeditionary force to Earth for negotiations regarding the threat. The following events are surprising and often funny. One thing you must remember while reading is that this was written before '69, meaning that astronauts hadn't yet landed. I have to say, if you have younger children and are lucky enough to find a copy- BUY THIS BOOK!

Steve and his sidekick Max land in central Arizona (in 1882) in the body of a famous actor and his friend newspaperman. The adventures of the next two days are both hilarious and, well, funny. Steve, while sitting in a barber's chair, happens to comment on the HUGE tumbleweed outside the window. Unfortunatly, the town's gunslinger happens to be in the same room. His knickname? The Tumbleweed Kid! OOOOOOPS!

Excellent book!
