This is a great reference book for looking up self-care treatments for different types of medical problems. First there is an overview or discription of symptoms and how the problem can be treated...as well as advice for when you should seek professional help. It is very complete and well written. I am hoping for an update although the information for common illnesses is still current.

This was a great book. I don't really wanna tell anything else cuz i might ruin it but Nancy Drew has really started at a better case solving ditorial.

This book is really good. It differs from the other Nancy Drew stories. In most Nancy Drew mysteries, it is clear who the "bad guy" is, but the mystery itself takes other forms. In The Wrong Track, it's Nancy Drew's job to find out who the theif is, not just track them down. In a way, I like the other Nancy Drew mysteries better, but this is still a great read and I reccomend it.

My eight year old daughter found these books in the middle of second grade. The reading level is about a 40DPR, or second grade in most places. Though a good reader moves through them quickly (maybe 45 minutes for the whole book) she loves them. She enjoys the mysteries and relates to the characters. This year she tried the "real" Nancy Drew books, but could not connect to a character who is in highschool and has boyfriends. The Nancy Drew notebooks are written about an eight year old Nancy whose mysteries that take place at slumber parties and dance class. Just the thing to captivate a young girl.

I waited my entire life to finally sit down and read "Black Beauty". What a GREAT book!!! This is one I will be keeping!

This was a fun addition to my library as it was a childhood favorite. This was a lovely edition, beautifully printed and bound. The seller packed to be sure it arrived in the same great shape it was in when it was sold too. I am very pleased with the book and the seller.

Not up to par with the Disney classics, of course, but entertaining enough and of decent quality. Good for students learning Spanish.
My 3 y.o has watched it several times even though he's not into horses, so I guess he likes it well enough.
I would say that girls would like it better.

Black Beauty is the story of a horse and possibly one of the best-loved animal stories of all time, except for perhaps Old Yeller. This novel will inspire young readers to be kind and compassionate to animals. It will teach young readers to treat everyone with kidness and respect.

this book is good for any horse owner, horse groomer, cruel horse owners, nice horse owners, its good for anyone i've read it about 100 times, and have sevreal copies of it its a good book read it if you like horses!

My granddaughter loved this book. She reads and listens to the CD's that Laura Linney has made for the series. She loves them and can't wait till many more have been made to match her growing collection.

The Secret of the Old Clock by Carolyn Keene is a great mystery book. All the characters are fit for the story. This is perfect for anyone who enjoys solving problems and coming up with solutions. An amazing storyline, and until the end it will keep you on the edge of your seat!

When I started reading Nancy Drew, I started in the middle. My seventh read was "The Secret of the Old Clock".

I'm glad I started in the middle. This book meant more to me. By the time I read it, I'd done research on the series, the creator, the pen name and the ghostwriters. Although the books I read in the series are revised, I love the introduction of this character. I kept in mind that this series began during a time when girl detectives were at a minimum.

I love the plot, I especially liked the characters, like Nancy's old classmates who were just plain mean. It was a page turner and I was on the edge while Nancy worked hard to escape a locked closet.

I'm happy to be a Nancy Drew fan!

I always liked the Hardy Boys better than Nancy Drew, which is perhaps not too surprising. The whole team adventure thing there is probably a bit more interesting, and perhaps a bit more freedome given to the young lads than Nancy, anyway.

Other than that, a pretty garden variety kids mystery story. With these books, the title does actually have something to do with it.

I have loved reading Nancy Drew since I was little. They are still fun, however you may want to find older copies of these books to really get your money's worth. Otherwise, you will be buying what is in essence a disposable product, kind of like a magazine or newspaper.
I have an older set from the mid 1990's and it's in fine shape, but I have noticed that the publisher is following a trend I have started to see in the book industry as a whole. They are all switching to cheaper quality materials for their books, but still asking the same amount of money if not more. I thumbed through some of these at my local bookstore and noticed that while they are still in the familiar yellow hardbacks, the covers are not well printed, it looks like a muddy scan for the cover and the paper used inside is the same you would get in your average newspaper.
Some may not care, but if you consider that in order to buy the whole 56 book set it costs well over 350 dollars . . . you can see that it adds up fast and for that kind of money, they should be like the previous 60 years or so editions, nice tight bindings and high quality paper that doesn't yellow in five years or so.
What gets to me is that the industry is trying to pull a fast one on the consumer. If they could lower their prices a little, to reflect their use of disposable materials, that would be more honest on their part.
But I guess that's what's at issue here. Buy with caution, because if you intend for these books to stay in your library a while, you may be disappointed.

The Hidden Staircase

Nancy Drew is on the case of the hidden staircase. The eighteen-year-old sleuth is busy with two mysteries to solve. Her friend, Helen Corning has asked her to come to her family's ancestral home to help solve a mystery, involving a ghost. Just before Nancy leaves, she is visited by a man who tells her that her father is in danger and she had better not let him out of her sight.

Nancy's dad is working on a case for the railroad. Men are protesting the railroad going through their property and a crooked lawyer has told them to hold out for more money. After Nancy's dad assures her that he can take care of himself, Nancy reluctantly goes to help her friend.

Missing jewelry, strange noises, shadows, a moving chandelier, and footsteps at night, all plague the women at the Twin Elms Manor. But when the same strange lawyer comes to the door to the manor, trying to buy the property out from under Helen's great grandmother, Nancy is very suspicious. On top of that, Nancy's dad was last seen by a taxi driver who was taking him to meet his daughter, but he never arrived.

Can the crooked lawyer have something to do with the ghost? Can he also be involved in the disappearance of Carson Drew? How does the ghost get into the manor? And how does the spook always know when the coast is clear?

The suspense will keep you reading from beginning to end, in Nancy Drew's second mystery, The Hidden Staircase.

There are several ND books that I read as a young child and now my daughter reads them too. The Hidden Staircase is one that I put at the top of my recommendations. It is excellent mystery reading for kids age 9 to 12 (or for those of us who just like a trip down memory lane once in a while). The thrill is still there!

I bought this little notebook for my mother who is an old school Nancy Drew fan and she was thrilled with it! It is a nice size to use as a purse notebook, well made binding, quality paper and there are printed illustrations on the pages - so it isn't just a blank book with a Nancy Drew cover - it is a total Nancy Drew themed blank book. Really nice small gift item.

This book was for my grandaughter. I read it before giving it to her and found it to be very entertaining and appropriate for my 8-year old grandaughter. She is reading it now and enjoying the book very much.

I did have to get this third party because it wasn't available when I went to order it. I am glad to add it to my collection. Putting aside what is obviously wrong with it (the derogatory portrayal of the African-American servant) this is a pretty good mystery story. It is much different than the seventies version I had read before, not just the language, but even the storyline changed, with both the elimination and addition of characters. My only problem is the big gold seal on the front of the dust jacket. If this is supposed to be an accurate reproduction of the original book, it should not be "defaced" with a seal stamped on the front advertising "The Originals." I would have preferred that be put inside the book. I did enjoy the internal advertisements of other series in the end pages.

I bought this set as a gift for a friend and bought The Hardy boys set for myself. My friend loved the gift and read them all the way through within a week, So I can definitely recommend it as a gift for a female friend over fifty, or of any age. I never read a word of it myself, but from my friends reaction, it must be a pretty good series. By the way, The Hardy boys were great, too.

I actually didn't buy this set for myself and I didn't read it. I bought it for a friend who immediately sat down and read every book right through to the end.
Nancy Drew has been a favorite character since the first version of the first novel. She appeals to the part of every woman who knows that a good brain can out smart and defeat any amount of muscle, no matter how much testosterone is generating that muscle.
I reccommend that every teenage girl be encouraged to read Nancy Drew. To paraphrase a line from a Bette Davis movie, "a person has to know what's possible."

If you like the simplicity and good manners of the 1950's with a bit of fashion thrown in for good measure then these fun and gentle mysteries are a treat waiting for you. They are quick and easy to read and will make you smile at the innocence of the characters. Get your teens to read them, if only so they can roll their eyes in disbelief at the sweet, well mannered girls. Enjoy.

I purchased this product for my grand daughter. She was thrilled to be introduced to Nancy Drew. I remember these from my childhood, even the covers looked the same. As soon as she finishes this set I will be looking for the next one. Thank you.
