Bree says goodbye to her brother, sister, and cousin as they head home to Ireland, and she remains a captive in Norway. Mikkel has promised to free her if she and Devin accompany him on a voyage. He has noticed that God protects Bree, and she resents being considered a good luck charm. Bree is also afraid that Mikkel will not keep his promises, and fears for Devin's safety if he returns to Norway.
Devin and Bree's parents do send him back, however, and they set out with Mikkel's expedition. Along the way they realize that someone is trying to hurt Mikkel and thwart his plans, endangering everyone's lives. Mikkel also begins to understand that he can be a man, and still trust in Bree's God. Through all the frightening changes in this fourth book of the Viking Quest series, Bree, Devin and Mikkel learn how to find a heart of courage.

The book "The Holocaust Survivors" is mainly about how interviewers ask some of the survivors what it was like to be in the Holocaust. Many of the survivors said that it was very tragic to see some of their family members being shot, for some unknown reason or dieing, or from starvation. I thought this book was a great book on the Holocaust during World War II. The book also taught me more facts on what happened to the survivors. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to learn more about the Holocaust.

As a teacher, I know how important it is to make historical events come alive for kids. In her book, The Holocaust Survivors, Tabatha Yeatts does a wonderful job of drawing in the reader and taking him or her back in time. Her personalized accounts of Holocaust survivors provide details that give the reader an in-depth understanding of this period of history. Throughout the book are riveting photographs and interesting facts that I had not seen before. Ms. Yeatts takes a difficult subject and handles it with sensitivity and grace. After reading this book, I possess a much greater understanding of the events of the Holocaust and why it is so important that we don't forget. I give The Holocaust Survivors the highest possible recommendation.

Tabatha Yeatts's book, THE HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS, provides an astute glimpse into one of history's most difficult chapters. The author establishes an historical context for her story with a brief summary of the Holocaust. She goes on to relate the experiences of survivors as well as addressing issues and aims of the Nuremberg trials and the task to establish an independent state of Israel. Yeatts skillfully blends broad, often harsh, themes with convincing, intimate detail. The result is a carefully balanced narrative that communicates the magnitude of events without overwhelming the reader. Her sensitive retelling of individual tragedies respects the human dignity that is the victims' due. Yeatts also includes a chapter devoted to continued efforts to seek justice for wrongs committed by Nazi war criminals. Finally, she concludes with an intriguing discussion of individual character traits, attitudes, and mindset that predispose individuals to turn into rescuers, bystanders, or contributors when evil groups threaten a society. Yeatts's book, always timely, will never be more so than in this year [2000] when Passover coincides with Hitler's birthday.

Hilda, a hyena, has the hiccups, and nothing seems to cure them. An adventure to Hiccup Land is Hilda's only hope for help in this first book by Atori Publishing. Children 3 to 7 years will enjoy the large, bold pictures and cute story. The professionally produced CD recording allows youngsters to read along as a narrator and three actors perform a zesty dramatization of the story. Also included are several upbeat and well-crafted songs, well suited for kids. The entertaining story stands on its own, but the authors provide several additional learning opportunities, including facts about hyenas and practice words that inlcude the letter "H." This is the first in a new series entitled, "Listen and Retell Adventures," in which fun and education are blended together with imagination and interactivity. An impressive debut.

I'm a music teacher for twenty years and after reading How Hilda Hushed Her Hiccups I decided to base my summer camp on this wonderful book! There's so much to see and learn that my students wanted me to read it every week! How Hilda Hushed Her Hiccups has won the 2001 Ben Franklin Award in the category of Teaching/Education. It's filled with hours of reading over and over again, lots of fun filled rhymes, searching for Harry the Hamster, and singing the Hilda songs and jingle that are presented on the CD. I would highly recommend this book for any child....I have not met one that didn't LOVE it!!!!

I thought that the book was wonderful. My own children adored reading and re reading it. The 3 year old laughing at the illustrations and the 6 year old working through the text with laborious patience.
Not only was it well drawn with amusing pictures with small but important details to help a childs development as well as amuse any adult readers. Hilarious illustrations of cows with commentary worthy of the: Far Side cartoons. A wonderful introduction to young readers. I cannot recommend this book enthusiastically enough

As a Pastor of Children's Ministries, I frequently give away or recommend books from this series. The series provides parents with information and a strategy for presenting the material to their children. Use the recommendations as a suggestion - your child may need to hear the content sooner, depending on the exposure he/she has had from peers or others.

While cleaning today, I ran across this gem and took time to reread it. Warm memories of reading this book to my son washed over me. This was his all time favorite book from age one until he was reading Dr. Seuss to me. The artwork is lovely and matches the sweet and gentle tone of the text. The story is a simple one, yet so meaningful to a child who can relate to the little duck protagonist. Near the end of the book, the duckling tries to capture "the balloon in the water" which is really a reflection he sees of the moon. Crozat paints and describes the event so perfectly. I remember that it always made my son smile. The book is on hardboard, which held up to literally years of reading and mangling by a toddler boy. It does have a little tape on it, but is in good shape considering what it went through. I believe this book is a children's classic... I hope to read it again to a warm cuddly grandchild on my lap someday. I am also sharing my thoughts here in the hopes of inspiring others to bring this wonderful book home to their children or grandchildren.

I think that this book is engaging and educational. It is not intended for very young children (under 3 or 4), as there are several sentences on each page and the text requires some understanding of the animal world. I plan to check out other books in this series from our local library.
This book offers a fairly realistic, 'non-Disney' view of chimps. (Of course, it is not that realitic, as the baby chimp is the narrator of the story!) That being said, there is nothing scary about it. There is a picture of a jaguar and the baby looks fearful, but it is clear that the baby is safe.
The pictures are great -- very detailed and life-like. My only (very small) quibble with the pictures is that it is not always 100 % clear who the various chimps are in relation to the story. Not surprisingly, chimps all kind of look alike.

This book is great for normalizing personal safety. It works personal safety in with the usual "hold hands when crossing the street" type messages. The thing I love most about this book is that it addresses intuition the one thing that can really help keep kids safe. It DOESN'T promote the message that only strangers hurt you which is of vital importance. Kids learn best by repitition and this book lets you repeat information using colorful well done illustrations (notice the man bothering the little girl does not 'look' scary). It's a terrific tool and I highly recommend it as a way to introduce personal safety to young children.

I would recommend this book to every parent with a young child. It covers lots of different kinds of safety, including that no one should touch you where your bathing suit covers. And stranger danger. There's nothing too scary for a small child, unlike some other "lesson" books I've bought, like a lesson book I bought on anger by Adolph Moser which said some people get so mad they kill. I didn't have to edit out anything in this book.

Excellent book for survivors of incest - for both children and adults who are in the beginning stages of the healing process. Just being able to say "it" to someone who will believe, be supportive, and encourage healing is a major step for most victims/survivors. It was truely a blessing to share this book with my 5 year old Godchild, and to express my joy of her openess to trust and her courage to tell. Telling is one of the most difficult things to do. And many of us wait far too to long to begin the healing of these painful wounds. Just one part near the conclusion: The Dove tells Anne that someday she will be able to forgive her daddy for hurting her. Some of us will never forgive the purpetrator expecially when he and many others in the family still live in "da Nile"!! Forgivenesss of self and learning to love in a healthy relationship are much more benifiecial to survivors!!
It made me cry all the way through it, great healing tears.

I am not a survivor of incest, but of childhood sexual abuse, and yet this book was a source of great healing to me. I never told 35 years ago, but I feel this book would help any child to know that it's okay to tell. The illustrations were very beautiful and peaceful. The only thing in the book to draw a complaint from me was Dove telling Annie that she would eventually be able to forgive her father. I think that is something that should not be addressed, it is a personal choice that some of us may never arrive at, and puts an unfair burden on those of us who may never reach that point.
