McGraw Hill Has Done It Again!

This book is a hefty 352 pages which will teach your child the alphabet and the numbers from 0-20. There are six activity pages for each letter/number. As your child completes the activities they will learn how to recognize, trace and write the letters and numbers. The instructions are clear and easy to understand. The book is sprinkled with just the right amount of coloring and connect the dot activities to compliment the tracing/writing portion of the worktext. I would recommend utilizing this book with children in the age range of 5-6 years of age. This book is a cost effective handwriting curriculum for kindergartners.
My five year old daughter did point out is this material is covered in Everything for Early Learning Preschool book. Hence she did not take an interest in this book as we had already covered the material in the preschool edition.

This is a very hefty book. As far as workbooks go, this is a really good one. Lots of appropriate activities for little ones (4-6). Plenty for the child to color after the activity has been completed. I use this for my 4 year old as I homeschool my older ones, so that she feels like she is a part of everything.

I homeschool my kids and this is a great workbook. There are enough pictures and color to be interesting without being overbearing. It has good explanations of each topic and then lots of practice pages so the kids can really get a good feel for each topic. Many workbooks just touch on a subject but do not provide enough daily assignments and then you have to supplement. This book is more than sufficient on its own. There is an answer key in the back. This is a nice thick substantial book.

~Note for fellow homeschoolers~
'The Complete Book of...' line offers many great great workbooks. Some of the others we use are: Animals, English and Language Arts, Grammar and Punctuation, US History, Presidents and States, Dinosaurs, Science... just to name a few. They are great!

This book is great for many reasons. Lots of brightly colored, fun pictures, and the words are very large on the page. Each page presents one simple concept, and many of them involve cutting things out and taping or gluing them. Lots of fun.

The phonics concepts are presented in a correct order, step-by step. The pages tear out nicely, too.

I can't say enough for this book. We've had at least 25 different phonics books/programs/workbooks and now our various children, and this book is my favorite.

I have searched a lot of phonic books in order to encourage my children how to read. I first tried this book about two years ago when my oldest child was four. At first she went through the pages one at a time, but within a short time she did a few pages a day. She had mastered reading books with more than one line on each page about half way through the book of phonics. It doesn't rush the child to learn the short vowel sounds and long vowel sounds at once. It first grounds them well in beginning, middle and ending sounds along with short vowels sounds. It pushes them ahead with enough repetion not to forget what has already been mastered. It also sections subjects and at the end of each section there is a review so one is able to tell what has trully been learnt. This book along with simple one liner books to read is all you'll ever need to help your child read. It also introduces them to story telling, sequencing and a bit of grammar. It is really complete. I am now going through it one more time with my second child (4yrs old) and have found the book has worked the same for her. As they learn they are more interested and happy to do the work in this book, and she is the least motivated out of my two children.

I first got this book a few years ago for my oldest daughter to teach her to read. It worked! The book is very step-by-step. It doesn't jump ahead before you are ready, etc. I purchased a second book last year for my younger daughter. She is now reading very well! The book contains phonics for grades Kindergarten through second grade, but both of my kids loved it so much, they finished the whole think in their Kindergarten year!!... My kids love them all and so do I!

Bravo American Education Publishing! You've done it again! As with all your "Complete" guides (of which I have used several), you have combined interesting facts with enjoyable games and wonderful, full-color illustrations. I don't know what my highly color sensitive child would do without this wonderful series of workbooks. I hope to see additional titles out soon.

This title combines a comprehensive look at government as well as information on all presidents through the last one and workbook pages which could accompany more in-depth reading about states' histories. There is a good bibliography, including recommendations for CD ROMS, Videos and Web Sites.

All this company's workbooks are worth taking a look at.

I have am attending college and I have purchased several of the workbooks and they have been very helpful in assisting me in reviewing my math skills. The layout is easy to follow and the sample problems has help to reinforce the lessons. I have shared the authors books with my daughter who is a math teacher for 6th graders and she has used the series to assist with teaching her students.

Graphs, Tables, Schedules and Maps Students Can Understand!

I am a high school special education/alternative education teacher in Oregon, working with special needs youngsters. Contemporary's "Number Power 5: Graphs, Tables, Schedules and Maps" by Bob Mitchell gives the clear instruction and practice necessary for students to obtain the relevant information from graphs, tables, schedules and maps. The book is an excellent resource for students as a basic life skill or as preparation for the GED and SAT tests. An invaluable resource!

"Number Power 5: Graphs, Tables, Schedules and Maps" uses relevant and real life applications and examples that students will find engaging. The pages in this worksheet format booklet are laid out clearly, very clearly, and are easy for the student to negotiate.

"Number Power 5: Graphs, Tables, Schedules and Maps" gives the student plenty and frequent opportunity for them to check their understanding. This is one of the strengths that sets "Number Power 5: Graphs, Tables, Schedules and Maps" apart from other textbooks. Here, students don't have to suffer through pages and pages of instruction before their comprehension is tested. Students will find the book engaging, trust me.

I recommend "Number Power 5: Graphs, Tables, Schedules and Maps" without reservation! A great bargain for the price.

In this cookbook Kenda and Williams lead you through a fun maze of cooking, experiments, stories, ideas, and fun.In this book there is 1,000 pounds of fun. One recipe I've tried is the Astronaut Shortbread cookies. They were easy and fun to make. They are the ideal snacks plus they taste good!

I bought this cookbook a long time ago. The soup made from leftovers is extremely good, but the 1 teaspoon of pepper it calls for is a little extreme and burned my mouth. ( I suggest seasoning the soup to taste at the table. ) The Christmas tree ornament dough is very good and versatile. The only recipe I would not recommend is the dog biscuits- which looked terrible. I gave them to a dog owner who lives next door, and he said the dog ate them. Was he being polite, or where the dog biscuits virtually inedible? Beats me. This is a good book for small kids who want to cook.

This book is great! A fellow teacher of mine showed me this book that she uses every week for planning her lessons. The book explains how to make delicious food items and cool experiments. I have seen the children in great delight making their own frozen yogurt or taste testing honey that is made from different flowers. I enjoyed the book so much I intend to purchase it for my own collection and use it in my own classroom.

Laura Marie Henion does an excellent job of pulling the reader into this
multilayered story where the final resolution holds nothing but surprises.
She realistically portrays Max and Grace, delineating the many motives that
push cops to succeed. Cop's Daughter: Grace will appeal to readers on many
levels with a high degree of conflict, danger and passion.
Laura Marie Henion will keep you immersed in the pages of another fine
story by this talented author.
Be sure and add Cop's Daughter: Grace to your list. You will not be
disappointed.

Remember The Alamo
Davy Crockett Aileen Wells Parks
The book Davy Crockett is about one of the most famous men in the history of America. It tells about how he became a great hunter with Daniel Boone. One of my favorite parts is where he defended the Alamoe for his country. The book is great if I had a choice from 1to 10 I wold give it a flat 10 all because of its description and its pictures. This is the kind of book that I would conceders to people that love to learn about history.
The author is Aileen Wells Parks. If you ask me I think she writes good books for all ages. I think she should write more and more books for men, women, and children. I encourage her to write more.
The date this book was published was 1986.
A brief discription is when he goes to hunt for his first time he dosen't bring anything home. But the next week when he goes to hunt he finds a new friend named Danile Boone.

Days of Knights and Damsels: An Activity Guide is a wonderful purchase from A Kid's Guide series, especially for home schoolers, or families who love to share educational play! There's a lot to learn with this, and the best part is that it will spark a continued interest in learning about this era for years to come.

Every one of the projects is clearly detailed, so that kids can usually work on a project with minimal adult supervision. There's also lots of historical data to highlight the era of your activity. What more can you ask?

Your family will love Days of Knights and Damsels, and I highly recommend it.

Our outreach education company does interactive historypresentations and medieval theme birthday parties and we areconstantly recommending this book to both educators and parents alike. We suggest it as a primer for activities and decorations to go along with our presentations. Simple yet fun, this book lays out, in easy to follow steps, how to design, build, and play with the suggestions provided. It includes costuming, props, games, recipes, accessories... for ages up to about 12. It is not a historical treatise (it shows how to make a mirror from cardboard and aluminum foil rather than burnished copper for example) but is a fun way to "get the feel" of the time, if a bit fanciful. This book is a delight for the harried parent or teacher. GregRobin Smith and Cymbric Early-Smith.

Hands On ways for Kids to Re-Live the Middle Ages

Review Date: 2001-08-17
We're a homeschooling family who've just finished up studying the Middle Ages. We're always looking for resources, just like this one, that let the kids make things and pretend. To get a real taste (literally!) of the way things were a thousand years ago.

The thing my wife and I like about Knights and Damsels, is that the kids can take charge of their own projects with only a little supervision from Mom & Dad. What a timesaver for homeschool parents.

Also, although there are some obvious compromises in costume-making and food preparation, there's still enough there to give our kids the "look and feel" of more primitive times, from making butter from scratch, to various costumes, to games kids (and grownups) played in medieval times. I bet they remember more, too, as their studies continue and they get older. And when they have an opportunity to dig deeper into this era academically, I'm betting they'll be pretty motivated.

If you want your kids to be excited about history, this hands-on, low maintenance book may be your answer.
