This is the third book of an excellent four book fantasy series. Book publishers don't help their own sales by labeling books as for young adults because I am by no means a young adult and I can hardly put this series down. They are written in a female voice, are very creative, and exciting. I am anxiously awaiting book four to be published.

This book was a fantastic read! It was really easy to get into and the characters are very believable. It is the third book in the Pellinor series, of which I own the other two. It is a great series for young adults to read. The vocabulary is easy to get through and the story line is easy to follow. There is always a feeling of excitement, of what will happen next that captures you and keeps you reading. It was very hard to put down. I would urge anyone to purchase this book!

I have been a HUGE fan of Alison's after I first read her novel, The Naming. Ever since then I have been hooked on this series, and it even remains today as one of my favorite series of all time. The book opens with Hem, Maerad's brother, who has split from her and traveled to the beautiful city of Turbansk with his mentor, Saliman. But all is not fun and learning for Hem, when the threat of war begins to become a reality. Along with his newfound friend, Zelika, his mentor, Saliman, the white crow, Irc, and other Bards, Hem will travel the landscape into a dangerous child army camp, and even into the heart of The Nameless One's domain. While this book is very depressing and sad, it is shot through with love and compassion, hope and courage. This book is masterfull written, and will quickly win your heart as one of your favorite series.

We start off with a troubled boy whose past would never be envied and we end with a young man who is strong and knows his purpose. This was a great book, I could barely set it down. The first two, Maerad's books, were awesome but I took to Hem a lot better. He's the rebelious kid in all of us and he seemed to have a little more confidence than Maerad who immediately believes that she's a monster when she makes a mistake while Hem seems to accept his mistakes as being human and goes on without much time to dwell. Overall, this was a great book that I recommend to anyone who has a taste for the epic. I can't wait for the next.

The lonely Dolphin
Will Mandy save bob or not?
Dolphin in the deep is a book about dolphins in a zoo that do talent shows and makes people laugh and cheer! The dolphin names are Bob and Bing. But one day Bob dies and Bing gets so lonely that he misses his brother and does not do the talent shows. Will Bing do the shows or not?
My favorite part of the book is when the dolphin dies and Mandy tries to help bob by telling Joel to jump in but it was too late. That was a sad part in the book. But I still enjoy that part in that part.
I think the author's purpose of writing this book Dolphin in the Deep is that you need to work together to try to save something you love.
My recommendation for Dolphin in the Deep is that it is a really good book because it is so interesting, there is always a problem and mandy is trying to save the problem or animal. Dolphin in the Deep is the best book I've read. I would give this book five stars.

Well, what a gem this turned out to be. I almost passed over it in the bookstore because the cover art seemed a little blah. Turns out you really CAN'T judge a book by it's cover! I actually didn't notice that this book was the second in a series until I was at home and settling down to read it. Fortunately, this book can be read just fine as a stand alone.
I am very impressed with the quality of writing. Good suspense is so hard to find...especially in the Christian market...so it was with great joy that I read well past my bedtime (and all common sense) to finish it up. The characters are likable and the spiritual message is conveyed with care and conviction.
My only complaint (and it's a small one) is that it takes Dani a ridiculously long time to figure out Will isn't the reporter he claims to be. That got on my nerves after a while but not enough to ruin the book....or even lower my rating.
Pick this one up right away, you won't regret it. Now, I'm off to buy the first in the series...

I loved the first book in this series and this one did not let me down! This was a wonderful, romantic Christian suspense novel.
Will and Dani are great characters that you truly want to get to know. I really like how Will developed and thought that was a great addition to this book. Definitely a close look at how to develop into a Christian.
Take the time to read this entire series - you will be glad you did!

Couldn't put it down! I have a love/hate relationship with writers that get you so into the story that you panic when the characters panic, etc. Worse yet is when you cannot put it down...you try to rationalize with yourself that it will still be there in the morning (it's 3am and you have to get up at 6am) and that it won't change if you close the book for a few hours of shut eye.
Loved it! I own/have read every book Susan has written. I have loaned several out and have had to purchace replacements because no one wants to give them back!

Dannette (Dani) Lundeen is a Search and Rescue worker who is more than capable of handling herself in difficult situations. Will Masterson, Homeland Security agent currently undercover as a reporter, is immediately impressed by her.
Dani however, does not think very highly of reporters, so Will has an uphill battle on his hands to get past Dani's defenses. But when Dani begins an independent search for a missing teenage girl in the woods near the Canadian border and runs into Will, also looking for the same girl, she wonders why a reporter is so determined to help with the search. And Will is bound to keep the truth from her.
Dani & Will quickly found a special place in my heart. Their personal & spiritual journey's were ones I recognized in my own life. Will is trying so hard to learn how to be "God's man." And Dani thinks she has a solid relationship with the Lord, until she begins to realize that there are some areas of her life she has not really trusted Him with.
Susan does a wonderful job weaving spiritual truths into a suspenseful storyline.

A friend's 2 1/2 year old son loves animals. Since he prefers real animals to cartoon ones, I decided to go with this book. I gave it to him almost a month ago and his parents say it's still his favorite thing in the world. He takes it everywhere an asks everyone he knows to tell him about the animals. I wouldn't hesitate getting this for a child of any age.

I had not even heard of Enid Blyton until an aunt in Australia sent me a copy of 'Five Go Down To The Sea'. That would have been about 1955 and I was immediately captivated by Enid's pure sense of mood and adventure.
I must have re-read the book a half-dozen times in just a few weeks and got to know farmer Penruthlan, Yan, The Barnies and Clopper the horse as if they were real friends of my very own.
I relived that adventure again when I got to read a chapter or two aloud each night to my two sons when they were toddlers. They, too, were enthralled with the story. And I truly believe that the noble actions of Julian, Dick, George, Anne and Timmy helped to mould my sons' lives, as they did mine.
Even now, at the 'grand old age' of 57, I am not ashamed to admit that, seeking escape from this troubled world, I have read Five Go Down To The Sea again, by myself.
Now, I can't wait to have grandchildren, so I can read the book to them at bed-time...unless my sons beat me to it, of course!

when i was a kid of 7 or 8 my mom got me interested in books by Enid Blyton, like Famous Five, Secret Seven, and those Adventure series. I just loved famous five and in fact have read all 21 of their regular books. In addition to that i also read their special editions, around 10 . These books are so addictive, once my father even told me u shouldnt read that much , u're studies might get affected, or i'll weaken my eyesight! haha! but in reality these really capture the imagination of a young kid and i highly recommend them to any kids new to reading novels
Extra-ordinarily interesting

I could not put it down once I started reading it. After I finished reading the book, I felt sad. I have read the book two times in two days!
The top for getting a child intrested in reading!

I must have read every Famous Five book and Secret Seven book I could get my hands on when I first took an intrest in books. They kept me sneaking the flashlight under the covers to finish off that exciting chapter and wondering what the next chapter had in store for me...please I hope they all come back out in print soon!

My aunt, who lived in Edinburgh (Scotland), sent me Famous Five novels for Christmas and birthdays. I don't think I ever enjoyed any presents so much in my entire life as those books. I highly reccomend them to any prospective young readers.

I found this book to be helpful in getting my daughter to realize that everyone is afraid of something and that fear is a natural emotion. This books helps to show how the characters deal with their fears. If your child is very fearful of the dark, I would recommend you read the book before sharing with your child. I had no problems with an increase in fears after reading this book but neither of my children are very fearful of the dark.
One of my favorites

This was our first Franklin book and my son really, really likes Franklin now. I had never heard of him before this book, which was a "gift" from the pediatrician for my son's pre-preschool check-up.
The Franklin books are great.
This one, however, I wish we had skipped.
The thing is, my son was never afraid of the dark. I don't think it ever occurred to him that you *should* be afraid of the dark. But after reading this book, he started to have nightmares. We can't get him to tell us what they are about exactly but they have something to do with Franklin and his small, dark shell.
This might be a good book to help a child who is afraid of the dark get over it. But unless our child is some sort of anomoly, it could also have the potential of giving bad ideas to a child who is not afraid of the dark.
Consider your child when you purchase this book.

This is the best of all of the Franklin stories, and the first one published. It's a wonderful read aloud story, a great story for children to act out, and an easy way to begin a discussion of "things that scare us". Children are amazed to learn that grownups can be frightened of things too. This book should be in every child's home collection and in every elementary teacher's too!

I used this book with my middle school social studies classes. It was the state testing week, and I wanted to continue the curriculum but not ruffle any feathers with more concepts. We were in the middle of our World War II unit. I selected some of the projects that we did in small groups, individually or with the whole class as an extension of our regular curriculum. We made silly putty, folded origami cranes, made WWII airplanes, and THE BEST was the individual recreations of the Rosie the Riveter propaganda poster. Each student posed as Rosie, and now I have a great set of things to display for our spring open house. The information in the book is entertaining to read, and the projects are simple, doable, and beneficial. I would highly suggest any social studies teacher of any level (elementary-high school) take a look at this book.

Twelve-year-old Mandy Hope, and her best friend James Hunter feel horrible that their good friend, Wilfred Bennett, is being forced to sell his riding stables. Since the death of his beloved wife, Rose, both Mandy and James have assisted Wilfred in various menial tasks, including taking care of his eight remaining horses. The stables hold fond memories for Mandy, as she learned to ride on Rose's favorite mare, Matty. So when Mandy and James must accompany Mandy's veterinarian father, Dr. Adam, to a horse auction to watch each and every one of Wilfred's horses be sold to the highest bidder, they both find themselves extremely down. Mandy can't bear to part with the lovable Matty, and, deep down in her heart, she knows that Wilfred is feeling the same sadness. Matty was Rose's favorite horse, and by selling Matty, Mandy is convinced that Wilfred is selling off the last piece of Rose that he has. Unfortunately, by donating so much of their stables' business out to disabled riders, Wilfred is in quite a tight position with money, and can't keep even one of the horses. Besides, with Sam Western having already bought up all of Wilfred's land, and begun setting up a campsite for travelers, there's no room for an aging horse. However, when all of Wilfred's horses have been sold off, Matty is nowhere to be found, and Wilfred is being hush about the whole situation. The town of Welford is worried about Wilfred. With Rose gone, and now having to lose his horses and his stables so soon after her death, the townspeople begin to wonder if Wilfred will be able to cope. Mandy and James are curious about the same thing, and spend quite a bit of time trying to visit their older friend, and find out more about Matty's bizarre disappearance. But Wilfred's lack of appearances within Welford quickly takes a backseat to the newest mystery that has hit the tiny town. Sam Western's campsite is booming with business, and bringing all sorts of new people to Welford. But when rumors begin to fly that the campsite is haunted, Western's Campsite becomes one stop that people don't want to make on their vacations. According to campers, in the middle of the night, a headless horseman comes galloping through the campsite on a white horse, then manages to vanish into thin air. The rumors state that the horse and her rider are surrounded by a ghostly white light, and do nothing more than gallop through, then disappear. Mandy and James can't believe the rumors. Wilfred owned the land for years, and there were never any reports regarding a headless rider and his horse. So, under the pretense that they are holding a "badger watch," Mandy and James decide to do a little investigating of their own into the haunted campsite, to learn just how accurate the rumors are. But with all of the spooky tales floating about around them, the friends begin to wonder if Western's Campsite is truly haunted, or if someone is simply playing a joke on the unsuspecting campers.
Of late, Ben M. Baglio has added a handful of horse tales to the ANIMAL ARK series. However, his writing talent is so great, that he is able to weave a very different, very unique tale, to accompany each title. HORSE IN THE HOUSE is no different. Mandy is, as always, generous to the extreme. Along with James, the two of them donate their time - unasked - to help an elderly man cope with the grief of losing his wife of countless years, and help him with chores around his home and land. The two are such wonderful company for Wilfred, and really manage to cheer the man up; and the kind gesture that they extend to the aging fellow is a prime example for young/middle readers to help their elders, and volunteer for the people around them. While Blackie has been missing from many of the ANIMAL ARK books lately, Baglio inserts the feisty, misbehaving dog into the thick of HORSE IN THE HOUSE, making him as lovable - and troublesome - as ever. His perpetual smile, and boundless energy is humorous, and will leave readers - both young and old - with a grin on their face. Wilfred was an interesting character. He's kind and jovial; while, at the same time, mysterious and sneaky. His friendly treatment towards Mandy and James instantly makes you enjoy his appearances throughout the story; while his dedication to both his deceased wife, and his horses - especially Matty - is admirable. While Wilfred is a rose, however, the character of Sam Western is rather like a bushel of thorns. Sam Western is scruffy and grumpy, and seems to dislike kids to the extreme. He can't stand Mandy and James butting into his affairs, and is always out to earn some extra money. At the same time, he takes wonderful care of his bulldogs, so you know that he can't be that bad. His tough attitude is a nice contrast to the kindness that usually surrounds Welford, and provides a little controversy throughout the tiny town. Once again, Baglio has woven a tight, clean, fresh story that will intrigue readers of all ages. Animal lovers will adore the mystery that accompanies HORSE IN THE HOUSE.

As always Ben M. Baglio did a great job. Not scary, so great for little ones to read. I'm glad Mr. Baglio dropped his pen name of "Lucy Daniels" and is now using his real name. He should be known for such great children books. My Sarah loves his books.(for those who don't know, Lucy Daniels was the "Pen" name Ben M. Baglio used in the beginning of his series. Since then, he has dropped the name and uses his own. If you see a Animal Ark book with Lucy Daniels name on it, rest assure it is by Ben M. Baglio.)
