This is an excellent book for immigrants to study for US citizenship tests. I would highly recommend it. It is not too childish and it goes to the core of what you should know.
I am very glad I purchased it.

I enjoyed this book very much. It's concise, so you're not going to get any details, but it's a great place to start. I use it, also, as an "intro" to each section for my middle schoolers -- "whole to part" learning.
Definitely recommended.

Great for special education

I teach at a special education high school and in any one class my students' reading levels range from Kinder-12th grade, so it is extremely tough to find things that will encompass as many levels of learning at once. I am happy to say that this book does that, and the students really jumped right on to use it!

This book is right to the point, and is great for teaching students how to take notes. It has amazing spacing and large type that allows easier reading for students with reading disabilities. The fantastic use of color allows the reader to visualize a change in topic so that they may know that they are onto something new.

I would LOVE for this series to be modified into textbooks, with resources such as computer programs to enhance learning for visual and audio learners.

I DO NOT love the fact that it puts the grade level in BIG BOLD WORDS on the cover. That means that my 18 year old student is liable to tell me, "I'm not going to look at some middle school book. I'm in high school."

Concise and fun for all

Having recently moved to the US I decided to refresh my knowledge of local history. I got The Penguin History of the USA by Hugh Brogan The Penguin History of the USA: New edition which I recommend, but I also wanted something that would give me a quick overview so I decided to pick this one up. I was pleasantly surprised - it is concise, informative, well organized and fun. I have the Jan 2005 edition which covers everything until the Iraq war in 2003, apparently a big difference from the 1997 edition. Regardless of whether you're 15 or 50 give this book a try. I guarantee that you'll find an interesting fact you were unaware of (or had long forgotten) about US history.

The best party in 30 years!

I suddenly found myself being the "room mother" two weeks before the Halloween Party. Desparately, I searched for a source to plan an excellent, low cost, fun party for 28 5th graders on short notice! This book was perfect. Although the crafts seemed a bit involved, the game ideas were perfect. The book was divided into themes such as witch, bat, pumpkin etc. and each theme had associated foods, games, crafts and decorations. The game ideas were easy to put together and I improvised a bit. The teacher said it was the most organized and fun party she had seen in 30 years of teaching!

I am a first year teacher and this book helped me by leaps and bounds. Almost all of the activities are listed to be for grades K-6, but I was able to modify (if at all) many of them for my pre-K classroom. Every section - games, crafts, food, etc - is broken up into subcategories such as cats, frankenstein, bats, etc so the Halloween Party can have its own theme as well, if you'd like. I can't even begin to explain how useful the entire book has been to me! It took all the stress out of putting on a huge party with students, siblings, and parents galore.

A wonderful book and many ideas to use for Halloween Paries, not just at school. The craft ideas are so cute and adaptable for any age. We have used these ideas at church parties. The What, Why, and How of Room Parenting chapert is useful for any entertaining event. Suggestion: Purchase a complete set.

Cute story for the keeper shelf.

Trent is trying to raise twins--his niece and nephew--keep them from being stolen by their greedy father in a custody hearing that's all about their trust fund, and keep his business running.

Sarah is trying to convince herself that the dogs she trains are fine company and she doesn't really need anyone else but a part of her yearns for the family she knows she'll never have.

These two collide--and I do mean COLLIDE--when her dog wraps his leash around the hero's legs and sends Trent tumbling to the ground, looking up at an "angel."

While they have a lot of stops and starts in their relationship and a lot of emotional baggage each has to deal with, I can definitely see this hero and heroine winding up together and living happily ever after.

I give this one high marks and highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good romantic comedy.

Adorable! Fun! Engaging Read!!!

Lori Soard does it again! This is one of her best! I couldn't put it down until the very last page, and then, I didn't want the story to end.

A MUST Read! Great emotional roller coaster ride with lots of sexual tension, broken by the antics of two loveable kids and an undisciplined pet.

All is backdropped by a heart-tugging heroine, who rescues all of them, especially the irresistible hero, who at times seems to be going down for the third count in his battle to save the children!

You will love this book!

A Light Romance Suitable for Young Adults

Review Date: 2003-03-12
...

Aha! Here is a romance, light as whipped cream, and suitable for the young.

Author Lori Soard sets the pace for "Housebreaking a Husband" with a humorous, romantic and action-packed beginning

A feisty young woman with a scarred past meets a man with heavenly green eyes on the beach behind her home-or rather she entangles that man with a dog, leash, the arms and legs of children and some of her own body parts.

It turns out this man with whom Sarah has become entwined has some scars of his own. He is about to lose custody of two beautiful twins and, excepting for the deep love he feels for them, is determined to be emotionally unavailable to all others.

This romance is titillating but is also so free from explicit sex that it would be suitable for most 14 year olds. Like most families, Sarah's is slightly dysfunctional and quirky and absolutely lovable. it appears that Soard is incapable of formulating a cookie-cutter character. They all have a reality quotient of 10.

This is a story about how love can be corrupted by a lack of communication and by unaddressed fears. There is much more to it than a quick, romantic read.

I am a hopeless romantic when it comes to books, even though I am 15, so these are perfect. This is probably the best out of the sereies. I am a Todd fan so I enjoyed him being in this book the whole way through. Paula did get on my nerves by always trying to steel Todd away from Christy and copying ever thing Christy did, but it all turned out fine. I recomend this bood for sure! Its great. I think this book deserves 5+ stars... well maybe Im excaturating a little... but I still love it.

Christy beginning to become an adult and realizing that with all of the privileges come many responsibilities

Review Date: 2007-06-01
Christy Miller's long-awaited 16th birthday has come and gone, which means one very important thing --- she can finally date! However, in A HEART FULL OF HOPE, the sixth installment in Robin Jones Gunn's Christy Miller series, Christy starts to realize that life was far less complicated before she acquired so much freedom.

Christy's age is a very big deal to school heartthrob Rick Doyle. He has had her birthday marked on his calendar for months, having been guaranteed a date as soon as she turned 16. Making good on her promise, Christy decides to give Rick a chance, although she is still a bit preoccupied with on-again off-again love interest Todd. Despite warnings from her friends, Christy is soon under the spell of Rick's romantic words and gestures, which she never got from Todd. Before she knows it, their single date turns into an all-out relationship. Things are moving way too fast for Christy, but now she's not sure how to backtrack.

After an awkward run-in with Todd, she's confused as to where he now fits in to her life. He seems to answer her question when he announces that he will be leaving California to join the pro surfing tour, making her more upset than a girl with a steady boyfriend should be. To make matters even worse, Christy's parents are insisting she get a job to help pay for her driving expenses.

As she works long hours on the weekends she was supposed to spend with Rick, her new boyfriend's less-than-romantic side starts to emerge. She begins to wonder if Rick really is as wonderful as she once thought. He always seems to be "accidentally" getting her into trouble, bringing her home late for curfew and interrupting her at work --- not to mention the angry outbursts he has whenever she can't spend enough time with him. Christy has lots of questions: Should she be dating Rick, or anyone for that matter? Is Rick even worthy of being trusted? It soon becomes clear that the independence she had so long desired is coming at a high price.

A HEART FULL OF HOPE starts a new chapter in Christy Miller's life and is certainly different from its predecessors. In previous installments, we saw Christy long for the freedom that her parents always seemed to deny her. However, now that she is able to drive and date, things have changed. The book sees Christy beginning to become an adult and realizing that with all of the privileges come many responsibilities --- and complications.

Fans undoubtedly will note a change in the focus of the series, with long-present Todd moving far away and a new love interest overtaking Christy's life. While it may be different, A HEART FULL OF HOPE is much on par with the quality of Gunn's previous work and will readily please readers.

Paula, no offense, reminds me of a "cheerleader" at my school. I'm going into middle school this fall, and I need a really good book to help keep me not so nervous, and believe me, these help alot. I recommend #1-5 in the Christy Miller series and #1, 8-10 in the Sierra Jensen series b/c that's all I've read so far!

LOTS of things going on (you could look at this book all day long and still find something new the next day) Well worth the money!!! Get is for all your John Denver fans :)

Australian faerie artist Maxine Gadd's colorful illustrations bring the characters into vivid life. A must read book for faerie lovers of any age - and the first of a trilogy too!

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3BFJ0QPHCZSV3 Diana Zimmerman is an enchantress. In her spectacular 25-year career as "America's Foremost Female Magician," she created and performed amazing acts (many of which have continued on by her friends Lance Burton and other magicians). She now has turned that mystical power into writing and "Kandide and the Secret of the Mist" is a lovely story with a wonderful lesson.

I had the opportunity to interview Diana on her national book tour and she was indeed inspiring! Such a nice person with a glowing, positive energy and her book shows it. It is an enchanting book - just like Diana.

Diana also believes not only in the faeries in her books but also in the females in her life who bless her with their support and friendship. She gave the perfect girlfriend interview to Girlfriendology.com. Thanks Diana!

THE AMAZING PRAYER

Since hearing about Jabez, I walk around with a different composure, in a different mood. God wants to accomplish great things through us; he's just waiting for us to ask. Jabez's cry was that God would bless him so that he could bless others, change his generation, and change the world. God is trying to make you live like you never have before. God wants to inspire your life, so you can inspire someone else's life so they could live holy and peacefully.

I was just blown away by the simple truth in Jabez's prayer. It's challenging, and it really has touched me. I'm not much of a reader, but I became absorbed with this book and have immediately experienced the power of prayer. His experience has taught me to live expectantly, to be aware that God is at work around me and in me. It's okay to ask god for blessings because through it we're going to be able to reach more people/young people around the world are leading the way in prayer. They're seeing God do miracles.
(Yes this is a good book if you like stories about finding ways to get closer to God)

Maggie Quinn has no plans on going to the prom, a girl with her grandmother's sixth sense, but after a demon starts attacking other students she has no choice. The story is addicting and hilarious. It reminds me a lot of (my personal favorite show)BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER.
I hated putting the book down and fell in love with Maggie and the rest of the cast.

Despite the title this book isn't very explicit. Perfect for teens of all ages who enjoy a good demon slaying or just a funny new read!

It is a VERY promising new series Hell Week (Maggie Quinn: Girl vs Evil)

Buffy meets Nancy Drew

Review Date: 2007-11-27
Have you ever heard the cliche that High School can be hell? Well, imagine for a moment that it really is. Not in the figurative sense but literally hell. That's what happens in the book, PROM DATES FROM HELL. Maggie Quinn is on the newspaper staff and is the Yearbook photographer and doesn't want to go to her prom. One day while photographing the Spanish club for the Yearbook, Stanley, the school nerd, asks her out. She's horrified but what happens next is even worse. The resident Jocks and Jennifers come along at that moment and torment Stanley. After Maggie takes a photo and threatens to put it in the newspaper, something happens. Stanley threatens all of them. No one takes him seriously, that is until Maggie starts sensing things and smelling brimstone at the school.

Later things start happening to the in crowd--the same ones who'd tormented Stanley. Now it's up to Maggie to find out what's going on. Putting on her Nancy Drew hat she searches to see what's going on and finds out that the prom is mandatory if she hopes to save the school from demons.

I enjoyed this tale. Think Buffy meets Nancy Drew. The catchy dialog pulled me right into the story. Throw in a cute college student, who happens to be researching paranormal happenings and is in her father's college class, a cute Jock, and a foggy demon, who likes to leave messages on her window. Oh, and also some witchy cheerleaders.

What I really enjoyed about this tale was the interaction of Maggie to her father. So often stories have the parents either obvious to their teen or the bad one. Maggie's father is very supportive of his daughter even when he can't see the demon. And her Debbie Reynolds like Grandmother is a gem.

This is a fun ride that makes you wonder if maybe that smell in high school might be something more sinister!

Bree O'Toole is a brave 13 year old girl who saves a 14 year old boy named Mikkel from drowning. After she is captured by two men, she discovers Mikkel is a Viking master. While a prisoner on the Viking ship, she prays God will protect her and guide her. Her life on the ship is not easy, but God does answer her prayers.
If you like adventures, you will love this book. If you are interested in Vikings, this book is perfect for you. If you like miracles, you must read this book. Raiders of the Sea is a great book for a family read aloud or for reading alone.

I knew that this book came from a Christian publisher, but was hoping that the faith of the characters would be an organic part of the narrative, rather than being inserted forcefully into the story. I was disappointed in that respect; sometimes the author laid it on a bit thick, especially with the "miracle" at the end of the book. I thought that it was the Christian belief that we love God just because God IS, and not for what God can do for us in the way of supernatural pyrotechnics. Does this give the young reader an accurate idea of what faith is? If we are in trouble and call on God for a miracle and it doesn't happen, what happens to our faith then?

I also didn't like the disrespectful way that the religious beliefs of the Vikings were treated. To boil religious diversity down to "My God is stronger than your God" is not a particularly helpful message to be putting out into a world that is still filled with religious conflict.

This is the first of the three "Viking Quest" series, which is continued in the "Raiders from the Sea" series. Bree is a young Irish girl who is captured during a Viking raid. Her brother is also captured, but effects an escape, thanks to his sister. The story begins with the first suspicion of a raid, and is concluded with the launch of Bree's escape from the Vikings.

Through the story, Bree battles her fear, anger, and resentment toward her young captor, constantly turning to the Lord for strength and courage. The Christianity did not seem at all forced or contrived, but flowed naturally, as it would in the life of a Christian.

I was pulled into the story, especially as I enjoy this time period. It was written for children, but adults will enjoy a nice quick read. The plot is not simplistic, and moved right along. It is Christian and clean, but not preachy.

I'm going to have to get the other books in the series! This book is followed by "The Mystery of the Silver Coins."

The best book ever! A million stars!

I'm thirteen...and I'm reading this series for the third time! It's a book that never gets old! You'll read it over and over again and never get tired of it! If you could give it a million stars...I would!
The way the book is written...is magical! You want to read it slowly to get every word, yet at the same time yourself reading it as fast as you can! It's got mystery and danger...but unlike most...it's so real! The best thing is that the characters always turn to God when they need help instead of panicking or thinking they can do it on their own!
I'm not gonna tell you what happens...cause you need to find out what happens for yourself! You'll find yourself totally rapped up and lost in the book without even realizing that hours that have gone by!
This is defiantly a must read! For everyone!

I am a Speech-Language Pathologist, a "big sister" to many, and a proud aunt. These books are worth the money for gaining the attention of young children as well as teaching age-appropriate concepts/information.

Good buy from a great seller-

This is a great book just like all of the other "Snappy" books. My son loves them all. He's always throwing them up on my lap for me to read to him. Fun to read, great pop-up pictures...A+

My kids are 2 1/2 and 1yr. They love it! It's a really cute, simple, rhyming pop-up book that teaches the sounds that animals make. They're excited everytime we read, which is often!

I highly recommend this book as well as the other pop ups that are made by this company. The one with the colors is really cute too

This is a favorite of my 15 month old. He has had this book since he was about 6 months old and has enjoyed it since the start. All the Snappy books are fantastic and we have most of them. Snappy Farm Animals is colorful and simple to read. Babies love the colors and the animals. The farm starts out nosiy and slowly calms down as the animals go to sleep and the farmer waves goodbye.
