This is a beautifully done book. I think I've bought 5 copies already to give out as gifts. For pop-up book lovers, this is a must.

This book by Matthew Reinhart not in collaboration with Robert Sabuda leaves a little (a very little) to be desired. The illustrations are nice, but not as eye-poppingly beautiful as a book about Cinderella could be and the quality of the pop-ups are not as crisp as those in the books in which the Sabuda/Reinhart duo collaborated. There are several pages which do not close properly and the pop-ups needs to be manually adjusted before closing the book or the pop-ups will be squished. I have not found this problem in any book in which Sabuda has a hand. It could be just my copy. I'm just saying....

I gave this to a friend of mine's daughter and my friend loved it more than her daughter. It's made so well, and I'm gonna buy some more of these to give out.

There are no words to describe how beautiful and awesome this book is. I was bitten by the pop-up bug when I purchased Robert Sabuda's Alice in Wonderland (Matthew's mentor). This book is equally as beautiful and I love that it is not a "Disney" princess book. The center page has Cinderella after her transformation in full ballroom attire with real ribbon and she stands about 5 or so inches tall out of the middle of the page. In the final pages you can actually watch the prince's hand place the glass slipper on her foot and pull a tab to watch them ride off in to the sunset. This is an amazing book and anyone the least bit interested in this book should not hesitate to puchase it. I guarantee you'll want to collect all of their books after seeing this work of art!

This book is not for the active child. There are so many pop-ups for them to enjoy however they are not all that sturdy. I highly recommend this book though because it is just amazing and definitely keeps the child involved in the story. Brining a new love to reading just have to handle the book with a little care so it will last.

The is basically a rehash of The Secret. The information may be helpful for those who havent read anything else on the subject.

It is an easy read and the exercises are easy to follow. I had Laura Day's Practical Intuition (audiobook) so I am familiar with some of the concepts that she described in the book. While the teachings in the book are not entirely new concepts, they have been put together so as to be more effective because they are tied together. I am currently putting it into practice and so far, it seems to be working for me.

This book is a must have no matter what profession, period of life, stage of relationship you are in or not in. I have personally read all of Laura Day's Books and this book is the perfect book to start with.
I have also trained with her in practical intuition... and other skills and can tell you first hand that you do have the power to manifest anything you want into your life. I have many stories full of validations of her techniques.
We are blessed that Laura Day has chosen to spell out in such specific and simple detail the fact that we all have the ability to improve that which we have allowed ourselves to lose over the years as we become adults... and that is trusting our own intuitive abilities. In the Circle, she shows you just how strong the power of a single wish can be. Just how strong a manifestor you already are if you just had the proper tools to call those desires/wishes forth. Laura Day teaches these tools to you. There is no limit to what you can accomplish in your life or the extent of the happiness and love you can give and receive. You are already welcome in the circle.
I have given this book as gifts to, too many people to list here today and the changes in their lives have been amazing.

This little book is a gem! It is concise and direct to the point. In addition it is simple. Author Day has written this small book that far outshines The Secret and simplifies all the other 'get rich' books. Esoteric teachings and metaphysical teachings have been teaching this for eons. It takes a deep desire to change and in order to create a new reality, one must practice, practice, until the camera of the mind has the perfect picture. For wishes to come true, one must not allow doubt or fear creep in. Bettye Johnson, award-winning author, Secrets of the Magdalene Scrolls.

The author focuses on a series of universal philosophical
concepts to assist us in defining and implementing things which we value most. The process is set forth in a dozen or so steps. i.e.

o Embodiment forces us to visualize what we want.
o Awareness involves living our dream in the real world.
o Sacred status means praying for something or contemplating it.
o Synchronicity means identifying matter in relation to other things.
o Effectiveness means recording coincidences and obstacles.
o Space relates to the object in relationship to the Universe.
o Transformation relates to the energy fields surrounding the wish.
o Coherence refers to the embodiment of something.
o Right action deals with conflict resolution.
o Mastery refers to a singular goal for directing all energies.
o Intuition refers to the experiential domain.
o Healing refers to betterment and not energy channeling.
o Connectivity involves getting others to complement our energy.

Overall, the book is a good first start on running the full circle
to define our passions. For some, the book may be too theoretical
to comprehend in day-to-day application. The acquisition is worthy
for contemplative readers willing to thing carefully about the
contents. This book is not for the 60 second manager.

I am a teen reader and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. The premise for the story is very original what with the whole chess thing (certainly different from anything I've read). It didn't take long for the action to get started and several unexpected twists kept the story from being too predictable.

Be advised though; this story is NOT for those who are easily disturbed and do not appreciate graphic descriptions of gore.

First book in the Demonata series.

Grubitsch "Grubbs" Grady goes to live with his Uncle Dervish in a creepy old mansion after his parents and sister are torn to shreds by an evil demon named Lord Loss and his familiars, Vein and Artery. Grubbs witnesses the gory scene, but escapes by tapping into a magical ability he never knew he possessed. Once in his uncle's house, Grubbs learns more than he ever wanted to know about the Grady family curse, which involves werewolves, demons, and chess.

Lord Loss is an exciting fantasy/horror story, filled with suspense that left me wanting to read more. After his parents are killed by the demon master, Lord Loss, a teenage is introduced into a world of demons and magic by his uncle. I think a lot of teenagers would enjoy reading this book. Darren Shan uses every word in the book to describe the characters, the thing around them, and their feelings. The story is completely unpredictable and I was left reading chapteer after chapter, The characters are realistic and I can relate to what they feel. I gave this book a 4 out of 5. It is one of my favorite books because of how the story is told which so much detail in every sentence.

Book 1: Lord Loss

This story starts off with this one kid and his family who absolutely loves chess. They play a game every night and they are the best of the state and know one can beat them. Grubbs (Grubitsch) Grady doesn't get why his family has to play chess so much. He doesn't get why it's so important to the family, but soon, very soon he will find out the truth.
Grubbs family went out of town to a ballet Grubbs spends the night at his aunt's house for the night. But Grubbs was too curious to let his family treating him differently unnoticed. He sneaks out of his grandma's house to see what id really going on.
He finally gets to his house and his parents vehicles are still there. His front door was unlocked so he went in. The whole house was unusually cold. Every chess set that was in the house was broken and skewed around the house. The only light on in the house was in his room. Grubbs never learned what curiosity killed the cat meant until now.
When Grubbs opens the door to his room all he sees is blood stained walls and the demon artery eating his sister alive and the other demon Vein chewing alive his mom.
That's just the beginning, if you like horror books and demons and werewolves, this is the book for you. There's a lot more to this book than what you just read and it get's much, much better than the beginning is.
This book comes close to being just as good as the Cirque De Freak, but it's not quite there yet.

My 12 month old LOVES this book. She has a special voice she uses just for the doggies in the pictures. She can sit there, talking to and kissing the dogs, turning turning the pages back and forth for up to an hour!!

I just wanted to reiterate the weak points in hopes that the publisher is reading these comments and might redesign the book a tad before we get our next copy. The wet dog's head and the itchy dog's leg were removed (by a neighbor baby) immediately. I really wonder why these weren't made of the same sturdy cardboard as the peeing dog's leg or the pug tails.

I saw a young girl on an airplane several months ago completely engaged in this book and decided to give it a shot for a family trip to Alaska (1 1/2 hour dinners and a 4 1/2 flight). PERFECT solution. My 11 month old daughter LOVES this book and completely enjoys turning the pages, finding the pages with "moving parts" and/or texture.

She was captivated every evening at dinner and still picks this as one of her favorites. I highly recommend this book.

My 11 month old LOVES dogs and cats. She can't read this by herself yet but she gets excited when we bring this book out and let her look at the doggies and pet them!! It blows her mind and she can't get enough. I can't wait until she's old enough to read it alone and not rip off the doggies ears etc. Well made book and very interesting for kids who love dogs.

My 2-yr nephew and 18-month daughter love this book! It is a constant favorite before bedtime and she loves pointing and touching the different furry spots. There is even a "sticky" tongue that elicits laughs every time. The dog's pictures are great and the book is quite sturdy for toddler handling. This book is a must-have for any baby/toddler library!

My 19 month old daughter loves it! I start the sentences and and my daughter tries to finish them. She loves lifting the flap at the end and seeing the cat. One caution...The tabs can be ripped off fairly easily. I actually had to get the book twice because my daughter liked to play with it so much.

This book is even better than the glowing reviews suggested. It's simply a masterpiece of intelligent writing. The author respects the reader's intelligence, and has an amazing ability to mix detail and the big picture. I love the way the author combines a highly readable style with both arresting action, minute detail, and yet keeps his balance. He is able to get you excited about the events in Albany, GA as though they are happening now, then backs off to show how the whole campaign kind of died. He has remarkable energy and writing talent, and a wonderful ability to shift gears, weave threads together.

The best single book on the civil rights movement I have ever read. Parting the Waters is partly a wonderful, complicated biography of Martin Luther King, Jr. However, it is also a history of the early years of the entire civil rights movement. King, SCLC, and SNCC are described in great detail and their efforts are set against a background of federal reluctance to intervene in the South. Inspiring and detailed.

As you begin to read chapter one, this book will become a page-turner. The amazingly woven detail gives life to this story of over fifty years ago. Author Taylor Branch documents how M. L. King, Jr. walked into the storm of what was to become the Civil Rights Movement, and was then sucked into its vortex. As a "boomer" I was alive during parts of this, growing up in the Midwest. I remember some headlines and TV scenes, but reading the minutiae of what was behind those headlines was like unto discovering a mother's diary. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I am about halfway through this book. Even though I have not finished yet I feel compelled to comment on it. I believe it is extremely important for African Americans of my generation to get a more complete understanding of the civil rights movement. So far this book has opening my eyes and changed the way I view our African American experience.

What is best about this read is it flows like a history book. I give much credit to Mr. Branch for simply telling the story and not adding too much of his own commentary and opinion. That is one of my pet peeves with many of our `writers' today. They want to impose their opinions and biased interpretations. We do not need opinions. We need to educate ourselves with facts and draw our own conclusions. Okay, I will get off the soapbox.

Anyway I highly recommend this book. It is a very long read, but if you seek a deeper understanding of the African American experience this is a great start. Many of the issues we face today can be interpreted more accurately by getting a more complete account of our past.

By most accounts, Branch's three volume history of the Civil Rights Movement is the authoritative account of Dr. King's life. But beyond the facts and history, this particular volume is an example of masterful storytelling. I read this book during my morning and evening commutes, stuffed between strangers on the train. Branch transported me to another time and place, at times on the brink of tears. Branch devoted decades of his life to crafting this story. His efforts leave us with an honest and beautifully told story - one of our nation's most inspiring and tragic.

This is the first Omartian book I have read, and I love it. The breakdown is short easy chapters, so I can read a few minutes and still cover a topic. Great advise and insights are on every page. I also plan to use it as a reference/refresher when I need advice.

This is an excellent book. It was recommended to me by a friend and worth every penny. Extremely motivating. I have two other books in the series that I enjoy just as much.

I am pleased at how fast that I have received this book. I have been using this book with my weekly Bible study. It is a wonderful book and a great resource for women who want to become better prayers.

If you're looking for more of a closeness and intimacy with the Lord, this is a good book to read. I also recommend the power of a praying wife.

This novel merits the overused label of "classic." This is an astoundingly good read, a wonderful romp through familiar as well as not-so-familiar venues of literature.

Silverlock, the protagonist, is a cynical, heartless scamp. Through a mishap, he finds himself in the "Commonwealth" which is a place in which things happen differently than in our world. Robin Hood is alive and well, and fighting the Sheriff of Nottingham. Circe is capturing men with her magical wiles. And so on. Throughout this gorgeous romp, we see our friend Silverlock emerge from his coccoon to become a real man and a decent human being.

This review cannot do justice to what is a gorgeous voyage through the Commonwealth. No one should miss this wonderful novel. Hopefully it will soon be available on the Amazon Kindle so that I may add it to my electronic library, and have it handy at all times.

This book is a fun read if you like A) classic literature and B) fantasy. The references to classic literature throughout this book are what really makes it fun to read. The setting of the book probably inspired the creators of "the Neverending Story." The only thing keeping me from giving this book five stars is the fact that it does get rather boring in the middle due to the seeming pointlessness of the quest they go on. Basically, it's hard for me to understand why the main character (Silver lock) and his sidekick (Golias) try so hard to help someone who seems so completely self-absorbed (Lucius Gil Jones). You'll see what I mean when you read the book.

A book that is a literary puzzle, an adventure of sorts, and full of sneakiness and tongue-in-cheekness. I have read quite a lot, and when I read this, I had trouble trying to work out who was who in quite a lot of cases. I suppose this is a lot of the appeal, though, being like a really, really hard cryptic crossword, at times.

Silverlock is a fun, roller coaster ride through literature. It chronicles the journey--inner and outer--of an American cynic as he travels through the world of literature. Some of the fun is tracking down the literary characters, from Beowulf to Don Quixote to Becky Sharp. Part of me regrets not having been born in the 1950s to relish Silverlock fully; the Internet makes finding the sources of the characters effortless. Hopefully, readers take the next step and read the original sources to expand their understanding and appreciation of literature. In my opinion, the novel posits that literature is an evolving, cumulative organism. Modern (American) literature is built on the foundation of the stories that came before. The novel shows that someone can find meaning in the stories he or she encounters, and sharing those experiences--and possibly using them to invent new stories--is one of the joys of life. Anyone with respect for literature and the history of speculative reading should give Silverlock a try.

I suspect that this is one of those polarizing books: those that love it REALLY love it; others will be, at best, blandly indifferent or outright bored. I hew more closely to the second camp.

The book has notable adherents and in recent years has been hailed as a bit of a neglected gem, but I found it only moderately diverting. It was written in 1949 and so it's a bit dated (and its attitudes toward women are not the most advanced, but then again, the protagonist is by his own admission a cad and a bounder), but that's really not much of a problem.

The novel is your typical Pilgrim's Progress type of thing, and is divided into three parts, which turn out to be Chance, Choice, and Oracle, or as I see it, Heaven, Purgatory, and Hell, based on the decreasing level of quality (and the not-concidental Dantean shenanigans toward the end). It starts out strong, but the charms grow old fast, and the overarching quest in the middle section simply is not very gripping. In the final third, the book becomes unbearably didactic and wearisome, and then, rather suddenly, the words "The End" scroll across the screen.

On a side note, I found myself often contrasting this book to Stephen Donaldson's "Chronicles of Thomas Covenant". Both feature (anti-)heroes thrust into a strange land and both deal, to some degree, with large philosphical concerns. (In fact, Donaldson acknowledges having read this, and having plucked the titles of a couple of his novels from one of the songs within, but purports to find the book sub-par.) The major contrast, of course, is that Covenant believes nothing of what he sees, but Shandon easily rolls with all that he finds, no matter how fantastical, to an extent unbelievable of someone from mid-20th century America.

Filkers and others who enjoy making songs out of poems will like "Silverlock", as will those who excelled in high school English classes and who can pick out some of the myriad allusions. I suspect most others will find this to be much less than advertised.

I would, at any rate, recommend picking up an annotated version to get details on some of the more cryptic appearances of characters from myth, fable, and literature.

Granted, it's more of a guide to life for people that have had their lives turned upside down by falling into a vat of toxic waste, but a guide to life nonetheless. More importantly, you no longer have to bother jamming a DVD into your DVD player (or a tape into your tape player if you want to watch it the way it was intended to be watched), because you can just pick up the book and read the words. Yee haw.

when i was in the fourth grade i talk my mom into renting the toxic avenger and that may be the reason iam a film maker today. and the novel is a must own if your a fan of this movie it adds so much more to the back ground of the story and after you read it the next time you watch the movie you will like it more ( if thats possible) do Lloyd and your self a favor and buy it

I think that Lloyd is a very talented and gifted writer. He also is a very nice guy. I think anyone that buys this will be very pleased and very glad they made this purchase. I loved it. Great work!

Lloyd Kaufman is at it again. Only this time he's leaving the imagination part up to the fans which if your a Toxic Avenger fan your gonna have one helluva time with this novel! This book is brilliant, not only does it provide a novelization of the legendary film, alot of pressing questions are answered. Tromatons? Tromaville? Its all in here. READ IT SUCKA!!!!!!

This is one of the most exciting books to come out in recent memory, with his irreverant off-the-wall humor, Lloyd Kaufman has rocked the literary world with The Toxic Avenger: The Novel. I got this book after reading Make Your Own Damn Movie, which I picked up since I'm a huge fan of Lloyd Kaufman's truly independent cinema, and I can say, everyone who enjoys positive things about the world should pick up this book. Seriously, it was a quick read yet I go back to it again and again. It's like reliving the movie-in print!

Also, if you get a chance, see other films in the Troma collection. I personally can't wait for Poultryguest to come out, but my favorite is still Terror Firmer, or maybe Tromeo & Juliet.

Yes, the judicial system needs an overhaul! On the flip side, there are some real jerks out there - good throne material!

Yes, when the book arrived, I was headed to the bathroom. And the book has been enjoyable reading while I'm otherwise busy. The one to three page stories make for the right amount of diversion.

The Stella Awards is a good read, but I can't see how people are doing the thing they are doing to other people for just money. Is this what we are coming too.

The cases decribed make very interesting reading. And it is unbelievable that they are true. It makes it hard to review the book. On one hand, the cases are entertaining because they are incredible...making it fascinating reading. On the other hand, the fact that these ridiculous law suits are real is totally frustrating and sadly disappointing. While reading them I am so utterly disgusted by the behavior of these people and what our society/legal system allows that I have to stop reading. It is infuriating that these lawsuits are even filed let alone heard in court. Filing frivolous lawsuits should be considered a crimial act! Good book...but watch your blood pressure...read at your own risk.

Named for the woman who sued McDonalds after she spilled coffee on herself this book is filled with weird but true lawsuits that you have to read to believe.

Some of the suits in the book include:
1. A girl who sued the school system she was at because they wanted to have other kids be Valedvictorian along side her

2. A guy who sued the school system because he got an A on a prject instead of an A+

3. A mom who sued people because her drunk over 21 year old son decided to pass out under a running car and died

and many more interesting stories that will keep you entertained for hours

This is a Phenomenal book! It's a great book for all women of color to read. Each chapter alerted all of my emotions and thoughts. I am learning everyday how to attack any negative energy surrounding me and follow the gift of intution. Learning to love yourself in the midst of everything.

Yes, I already gave it five stars, because I read one of her other books "Tapping The Power Within...." When I was about 14 or 15 years old, I was in a afterschool class, and the instructor gave us each a copy of "Acts of Faith." The title of the book was very powerful to me, and I tried to read it then, but I was not ready. See, thats the thing about most self help books like these, you must be READY to read them. I actually got "Tapping the Power Within..." last month from my counselor, thats when I realized I still had two of her other books. My aunt also bought me one of her books when I was of the age 14, because I was going through a tough time. The book was called "Don't Give it Away." Which I am now in my THIRD YEAR OF COLLEGE... YAYY ME, and I passed the book down to my sister. (Also, I wanted to leave this portion of my message for a poster on here named Tigress "JD": Do not feel stupid for buying a collection of her books. Actually, I had just did the same thing. I am about to buy more of her books).Its quite hard choosing which books to read. I am currently reading the "Acts fo Faith" day by day, and I have finished reading "Tapping The Power Within" Which is helping me a lot. The following books I already have purchased was already shipped to me is "Faith in the Valley," "Living Through the Meantime," (which I started to read, but I was not sure if I was ready, after reading a couple of pages through)"One Day My Soul Just Opened Up (which I am debating with "Living Through the Meantime"), and "Yesterday I Cried." So I have about seven of her books. I am going to purchase more right now. I hope you all remain strong, and I hope the books will help you all a lot. (sorry for all the typos its 3:12am in the morning in NYC and I could not help it, but to get back online and purchase some more books, plus I cannot fall asleep).

This book is great not only for black women, but for all women. It helps one to understand life better, and to love ones self better.

I am a big fan of motivational and self-help books. I have read many in my lifetime. Mostly good, some so-so. It is important to read a book relevant to what one is going through at that time to get the full scope of things from the book we read I believe. Iyanla's books are one of them and one of my favourite authors. The first book I got from Iyanla's collection was "Yesterday I Cried" and that had helped me through the ditch I was going through at that time. A friend of mine recommended a book of hers "One day My Soul Just Opened Up" which at that time I had already knew about her and went on to search on amazon her other publications and purchased the whole series of her books. Yeh - crazy me! But hey, she's good! I like her approach in the way she writes and conveys her message. It's real. I can relate to her. I have almost the whole collection of her books that she has published and reading them one by one as I go through my life's ups and downs. For the past few months I've been going through many valleys, I started reading "The Value In The Valley" which has given me many insights into my own valleys that I am going through and have gone through and approach life and my valleys in a different light. I have just purchased the Audio CD version of it to listen while I drive or at home. Can't wait to get it and the rest of the motivational goodies I just got from other authors. :) Thumbs up to this book as well as Iyanla's other books. Thank you Iyanla for all the insights your book has given me. :)

I saw a lot of me in reading this book. It really helped me to realize somethings about myself and why I do the things that I do. It was great. I would recommend it to anyone who needs clarity on themselves and their lives.
