I have to agree with Harriet Klausner's use of the word "shmaltzy" in her review, as opposed to the others describing it as deeply meaningful, poignant and heart wrenching. However, I have not been closely affected by breast cancer, as is the main character in this story. Rather, I came upon this novel because of my love for Martha's Vineyard, and to that end it was an enjoyable read, reminsicent of "Way of the Peaceful Warrior" by Dan Millman, without being such an obvious lesson in learning about yourself.

I recently finished Eternal Journey and was deeply moved by its many deep messages. From the moment this book "jumped off the shelf" for me to buy, I knew this was the perfect book for me to read at this moment. I saw an amazing number of coincidences throughout the book with my own life, to the point where I felt like the book had been written just for me! For instance, my 5-year niece is named Annie(the name of the main character in Eternal Journey) and was just diagnosed with luekemia at the same time I was moving through the heart of the story. I just thought it was bizarre that I'd be reading about death (and rebirth) during a time when I was dealing with my second potential death crisis (luckily Annie is responding to chemo and is now in remission). During this same time, my husband surprized me with an eternity, celtic wedding band, which was a symbol of rebirth and eternal connection woven throughout the book. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful message and experience with me and I'm looking forward to sharing it with many of my spiritual woman friends.

Once in a while a little book comes along and just steals you away. Read a page or two and the next thing you know, you're gone...you're somewhere else for awhile. Eternal Journey does exactly that. It transports you to a special place where mystical events unfold and love transcends loss. Acceptance triumphs over anguish; grief grows into hope. On your journey through this book, you'll travel with Anna, a successful psychotherapist whose mission is helping others unravel and come to terms with life's mysteries. When Anna loses her closest friend Beth to cancer--the third such loss among her friends in a year--she comes unglued. Disconsolate, and trying to "get a grip" (ironically the name of her own radio talk show), she flees to Martha's Vineyard Island for a long winter week-end of healing solitude. Hoping to work through her grief alone, she discovers she is anything but alone. Inexplicably, she runs into and then keeps crossing paths with a truly remarkable individual. As she struggles to find meaning in her loss, other extraordinary "encounters" take place, until finally she realizes that love and connections never die....That life is maybe only one leg of an ongoing journey. Perhaps death is not the end of the road. Perhaps the dying process is really a gateway to another path in our travels. Like the birth process. What an affirming concept! What you'll love about Eternal Journey is that it bravely takes you where other books do not. Through the medium of storytelling, this lovely and poignant fable speaks straight to your belief systems, offering meanings unfamiliar to most outside the realm of hospice care and grief counseling. Far from being morbid or depressing, the author's message absolutely shines: it's awe inspiring and uplifting. In a word, it's hope (yes, as in "...springs eternal"). Eternal Journey is not just for the bereaved or those anticipating a bereavement. It's for all of us. Consider it a gift for your spirit, a balm for your soul. Carol Hutton has created a wonderful journey for anyone open to life's marvels.

Carol Hutton's Eternal Journey is fast and powerfully direct. Told as a fictional tale, this book will resonate with anyone who's ever suffered loss, experienced coincidences or synchronicities in their life. There are reasons for all experiences, good and bad, although the difference in resolution and understanding is in the part of the equation known as time. Awareness is the skill which needs to be developed as the reader progresses through the novel. The real value is translating this into one's own life.

This book was required reading for my introductory class on architecture. I was debating whether I should be an architect or not and this influenced me to pursue it. It is one of those rare theory books that I had fond memories of reading. Rasmussen, unlike most writers, is very even handed in his presentation and doesn't steer the reader into any particular style. He provides the reader with a clearer understanding of architecture and the role of architects in shaping the built environment.

In spite of it's age the book is still like a bible for people interested in architecture and used a lot in education. The language is not too complicated, its not too technical and there are a lot of simple but good illustrations.

Yes, it's a must-have, yes u read it more than once and yes it is just the book for any architect or designer or anyone interested in the field..
This book introduces you to architecture...it's really enlightening especially to those who think that architecture is putting a couple of bricks together to come up with a building, `cause architecture is more than that, it's more or less like a way of living...
So that's why i highly recommend this book to 1st year students or those who are about to pursue a future in architecture..
but still this book is great for seniors and architects in general...
the only think n this book that needs adjustment is the display or the presentation...i know it shouldn't matter as long as the book is good...but just as a way to make the books more appealing especially for those who don't like reading all that much... but if you r the kind of person who doesn't mind that u'll enjoy the book all the same.. I really think this book should b taught in any architecture class

I enjoyed reading the stories of each of the enterpreneurs featured, I wish it had even more stories. I was expecting to be a little more inspired by the book though, but perhaps I just didn't give it enough time to sink in since I've been reading other books at the same time. It's nice to have a book around that is such a quick read - so you can remind yourself of the ideas in it. I will reread it again.

All of us have been asked what we want to be when we grow up. This book helps get the answer to that eternal question. It is a practical guide that gives diverse examples of various men and women of all ages in many different fields who have followed their bliss. This book is also chockfull of quotes, statistics and checklists so the reader can get involved and start working toward their niche. It is one of those books that you can pick up and read a few quotes and get some inspiration and motivation. I loved this book!

I read this book because I've been doing some thinking lately about finding my own niche and understanding what I would enjoy doing. This book was encouraging in that it helped me see that it is possible for anyone to find their niche. The stories vary from people who fell into finding their niche by discovering a need, to people who had worked at something and decided to go out on their own. In some cases it happened without people realizing it. It also made me realize that I have to know myself, my limitations and understand what I would be up against and be prepared for it. This is a very easy book to read and the exercises were very helpful. I would recommend this book for anyone who wants to explore the possibilities!

This book is kind of a "handbook to your heart". It is about figuring out who you are and who you want to be...and finding the courage to move from here to there. Ms. Dolbow shows how most people HATE their jobs. This book is about moving on, figuring out what it is that you 'like' to do...and making that into your vocation. It is fun to read. It made me turn a ("for family") hobby into a small business.

I started reading this small manageable book at 1:00 a.m. thinking I would just read a few pages to get a taste of it. Two hours later I found myself still working on the last section. Just couldn't put it down. It kept my attention because the stories were of people that I could relate to - I didn't feel I was up against Bill Gates' and Tom Cruise's level of success, just regular folk that really carved out a life they love for themselves in the world. What more can we ask for?

This book is DIVINE! My Italian mother-in-law, of whom still resides in southern Italy, gave me this book to take home and feed her son. It is a wonderful book that always makes my husband smile! The recipes are just like the ones I was shown in Italy. Everything is very simple to prepare and tastes fabulous! Take heed from a woman married to man who loves his mother's cooking, it is great!

Carlo Middione's THE FOOD OF SOUTHERN ITALY is of that rare category of cookbooks in that you are never sure which you like doing more, cooking from his book, or reading it in a comfortable chair. You can hear his voice as you read his heartwarming stories of his fascinating life and culture. The recipes are fantastic, 'Nfigghiulata Antica, Cozze con le Salsicce and his different ways of doing Baccala are among my favorites from this book. This is a very well researched landmark in Regional Italian Cuisine, that's why it stands out. Mr. Middione is in the same legue as Waverly Root and Elizabeth David.

If I had to buy just one book on southern Italian cooking it would be this one. The book is quite interesting because of his knowledge of the various regions, which he breaks down and expands upon, and ingredients that are used. The recipes are great.

Got it years and years ago -- maybe late 80s -- one of my first cookbook purchases when I was still in Middle School as a matter of fact. Excellent book (I highly recommend the Sicilian rosemary chicken). My dust jacket is damaged well beyond repair, and common sense tells me I should have thrown it out long ago, but I don't want to. The recipes are great, the graphic design of the book is unique and easy to read, and the pictures are some of the slickest and most appetizing I've ever seen in an American cookbook.

My only complaint with the book is that it's a bit too professional -- tools like raviolatrici (a very hard-to-find rolling-pin-like device used for making ravioli) and plaques au four (basically a huge cookie sheet) are not readily available in many places, requiring recourse to restaurant supply houses and large Italian neighborhoods; also, there is a one-size-fits-all approach to certain things such as bread dough that fits perfectly into a catering business such as the author's Vivande Porte Via but short-shrifts the richness of traditional Italian baking. These are minor issues, though, worthy of docking a half-star at most, and all the recipes are still quite usable for the home cook, and even then the professional mentality still leads to a great attention to detail. The book is eminently usable.

Published in 1987, this is now quite an old book, but it's still in my opinion a classic of Italian cooking. Just prepare yourself for the possibility that you might need a second copy in case your main copy gets trashed in the kitchen.

Anyone who is interested in fairy tales, myth, allegory and related topics would benefit from reading this book. Marina Warner's knowledge base is amazing and at times a lot to digest, but her perspective is like none other. I read it through once to get the flavor of what she's saying and am now on my way back through noting things I want to look up and explore further. One thing I've learned is that there are a lot of images in our everyday life that harken back to the earliest days and we have no understanding anymore of their significance, for example the Stork or the figure of Mother Goose. The book is an eye opener in that regard.

Marina Warner writes absolutely beautiful prose, which alone is worth the price of this book. She is ... well, "enchanting" on the subject of myth as social commentary and psychological revelation.

Warner understands that much of our mythic wisdom is feminine wisdom -- and, like Jung, she appreciates that "feminine" and "masculine" are words that describe aspects of what is universally human, not contradictory or competing factions in society.

All human intellectual disciplines involve story-telling and myth. History, for instance, is filled with mythic twists on "true" stories. (See Warner's own book on Joan of Arc, for example.) Similarly the Western chronicle of scientific achievement is a collection of metaphors ("Newton's clock," "Superstrings") that are useful for a while, then get discarded. Accordingly, the literal-minded should pause to consider exactly what they mean by "truth": Iris Murdoch has suggested that: "You may know a truth, but if it is at all complicated you have to be an artist not to utter it as a lie."

The legacy of stories we have inherited were usually first told by women, often to children, in a world where both of these groups of persons lacked real power. The stories, unsurprisingly, reflect the concerns and fears of people in such circumstances, as well as the general interests and universal dreams of human beings always and everywhere.

We need them. We cannot live without them -- both stories and women, that is.

Marina Warner's _From the Beast to the Blonde_ is a wonderful and engaging work concerning the cultural history of fairy tales. Warner explores the "stock characters" and stories of traditional tales, and in the process creates an excellent work of scholarship and criticism in an area of literature that has been relegated to the nursery, but didn't start there.

For a tiny book, this packs a wallop of information. I work in the medical field and have been searching for answers to my questions about varicose and spider veins for a long time. I was pretty surprised to learn that the doctors and nurses I work with were as ignorant as I was! The next step was the medical library. I searched for a book--and all I came up with were medical texts the size of phone books and filled with medical jargon. Being in the medical field, I understand the jargon but I really didn't want to wade through it to get the information I needed. Then I found Get Rid of the Blues on the web. What I like most about it is that the author did tons of research (from those boring books I didn't want to read!) and boiled it down to a "cut-to-the-chase" primer. Thank you, Mary Johnson, for writing this book. I can't begin to tell you what a difference it's made for me.

A good basic book and its arguement for saving cities is beyond reproach. But it lacked information on how to conduct research on where one might want to move, how to evaluate the direction an urban area is going or even how to tell if a city wants to have an urban core. And if he used the word "funky" once more I would have screamed; in fact he used it so much it almost made me put the book down. He should have stuck to the facts and tried not to draw verbal pictures of so many funky neighborhoods.

This timely book has made me realize....why drive and pay 50 bucks to fill up your SUV when you can "schlepp?" Get Urban! shows people how to avoid high gas prices by "positioning yourself" around food, work, fun and friends. I've already "gotten urban" in Bella Vista, Philly and I laugh at all the folks who made the choice to put themselves so far away from everything out in the 'burbs. Perhaps they might choose to establish their own world in waiting neighborhoods in their city's downtown. After all, we all have choices. GET URBAN AND START SCHELPPING!

Get Urban is the perfect book for us older folks with empty nests who are thinking about "getting urban." Our kids are gone and we are actually considering "moving on up" to a condo in downtown Nashville. The books speaks to us because we really do have to transform ourselves into a different mindset to become city dwellers. We haven't gotten urban yet, but have determined that we are "Postindustrial" urbanites. That's South of Broad (SoBo) in Downtown Nashville. Off we go, anxious, but excited. This was a very worthwhile book for us, especially because we've lived in a subdivision for forty years!

Regent St. Claire explores the gray area between evil and innocence, as the dark flip side of human nature. Regent's first book "Altered States of Grace" had read like its very own haunted theatre. Beautiful, also with such melodic melancholy that its all so very intense, so much that it gets so hard to digest at times that it compels me to read on. I can't wait to get my hands on his new book, "Glamour & Damnation". And, by the way, check out his project "Candyappleblack" at its very own website, for a bigger taste of the supernatural side of his imagination.

Somehow, unknowingly, the world today has been let loose on a constant campaign to lose more and more of the grip on things that really matter, things that make a difference... feelings that are meant to lie just beneath the surface... the very essence of the liquid tears that run from the flame and harden into rivers of substance.

I am glad to say that now, Regent St. Claire may be the one to make the world stop rolling off its own edge... and to make it listen... both in times of Glamour and in spells of Damnation.

His raw angst and passion colour his words with a depth and clarity that transpose his thoughts unerringly right through the keyholes of those special places in your heart and your mind that many of us strive to keep hidden, dusty and cold, and that will unlock you from within. His poetry is unencumbered by rules, regulations or sterotypes, and is as is... refreshingly fresh and excitingly exciting as one of the most genuine collection of poems that I have had the pleasure of coming across.

In a world of rising waves overhead and raging currents underneath... Glamour & Damnation travels in the space between... deep, rich, thick and weightless. Finally, a book that returns the age-old romance of reading. Three sweet cheers and a black apple to Mr. St. Claire.

Glamour & Damnation, a gift to be unwrapped again and again.

I have kept a copy of Regent St. Claire's "Glamour & Damnation," with me wherever I go for the past several weeks, ever since I received it in the mail. Whenever I happen to have a moment or two, I read as many pages as time will allow. Truthfully, I've probably read and reread the whole book, cover to cover, six or seven times, so far. The beautiful imagery in this book gets better and more vivid with each reading.

With each rereading I can feel myself being "washed down a storm drain" in THE LIE OF THE SEA; I feel like an angel remade in WITHER & BLOOM; my knees go weak after reading PROFOUNDLY MOVING.

These poems pull you in, like a gift to be unwrapped, and then when you remove the paper, you are left with a stunning piece of the narrator's heart. On every page, Mr. St. Claire takes us beyond the superficial, leading the reader past the meat of the poem and into the marrow of what he really wants to say.

If the first piece doesn't pull you apart and pull you in, your heart is hardened beyond repair. The first time, the tenth time, and every time I read BENT, BROKEN and BACKWARDS, my heart races at "168 beats per minute."

Ever since my first reading of the very first poem, in G&D, I've become a fan of St. Claire's poetry. I cried, I laughed, I scoffed right along with the poet as if he sat next to me, sharing his intensely personal poems with their cunning insight and page turning titles. I read G&D in my car while I'm waiting for the light to turn green. I read them with my coffee in the morning and during the day when I should be working on my own writing. I read them in the shade at the park and in bed before I slip off to sleep. If you are a person who likes well-crafted, accessibly readable poetry that will bring you into the world of a poet with a sharp eye, and fierce heart , buy this book. And if you think you don't like poetry, read it anyway. G&D just might change your mind about poetry.

Finally! A literary step forward in the art of self expression.
Untainted, undaunted and yes, believe it or not, unfiltered.

Most people write to be published, gearing their genere right to the hearts of the prime time crowd. Mr. St Clare abandons those who hide behind a job title, the latest skin care product or diet fad. He tears his heart out and uses it to document the most intimate of his rantings.

I applaud the courage of this author and I am confident that once you absorb and digest these verbal portraits of obscure perception, you will join me in demand for more food for thought...

I am loathe to write, as my poor attempts at description are amateurish compared to the other reviews that I have read about this book, however, I feel compelled to say something about a text that is human, moving, loving and yet dark, grim and humorously disturbing at the same time.

"In the Tongue of the Talking Bed" is one of the most real moments of human loss of love and bittersweet rememberance that everyone who has ever had a deep love will identify with. For a matter of fact, flip to any one of the poems and the only way it won't move you is if you're not from this planet (or a sociopath and even then, I think there's a chance that a sociopath would be moved in some small way).

Buy it, and buy one for a friend, it will be a tome to talk about and your friend will honestly thank you for it. (I speak from experience on this one-).

The God Who Pursues is a timeless book that speaks to us all - every human being, Christian or not. I was challenged as I read this book, and saw a reflection of myself in most of the author's illustrations.

Cec Murphey's openness and persistence in helping others understand God's care for us continues to enrich my life. What a comfort to read his words and hear that God does not give up on us. His examples from the Old Testament shed new light on familiar scripture and his shared personal experiences bring hope and inspiration.

The God Who Pursues, and the follow up The Relentless God, should be on every Christian's reading list. Cec Murphey writes in a personal conversational style that reminds me of Max Lucado. He uses OT examples and examples from his own life to illustrate God's continual pursuit of us despite what we do or don't do. His honest revelations about himself speak to the reader without sounding preachy.

Highly recommended.

Cec Murphey has personalized the stories of Old Testament Characters in a way that will make you reconsider your thoughts about God, His grace, and His unending love. Murphey uses real-life experiences that illustrate God's never-give-up attitude towards us. Time and time again I've mulled Murphey's lessons on Gopd and life over in my mind, only to see them in a new light each time. This is a must-read for anyone who's looking for a life changing book.

I finished this book a couple of weeks ago, but can't get it out of my mind. Never have I read a book that so clearly describes God's longing for a relationship with me. I think Cecil Murphey has made that so clear by his use of stories. He weaves in stories from his personal experiences, yes, but he also tells the story of various Bible figures.

Adam, Abraham, Jacob, Job, Moses, Samson, David, Jonah--and even Baalam--all their stories are told from the viewpoint of a God who was crazy about them. Some of them embraced the God who loved them, and some of them didn't. But with each story comes another layer of the story--the story of a God who cares and who relentlessly pursues.

This is a book I will read again.

As a mother of a child who has SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder), I thought that this book was fantastic. My son is 11, and I never really sat down to explain to him what was going on inside his body, and how he processed and integrated his senses. This was such a help, and he loved it. It was the first time that he was so engaged that he would turn to me and say "Mom, that is just like me." I am sending him to school with it for his teachers and aide to read as well. We have known since he was 3 that he had a sensory integration issue, but most of the literature is geared for that age group, and not for the preadolescence age group. It was wonderful to actually read something that not only helped me to understand more, but most importantly, help my son understand how his body works. Carol Stock Kranowitz comes through again.

My 8 year old son has Sensory Processing Disorder and loves this book. It is written in first person of a boy who is 10. It is very humorous and enlightening at the same time. His entire family has sensory issues of different sort.
Highly reccommend it.

It was very interesting as the children in the story shared what activites help them get in sync. What was relaxing and what elements of the activities were useful to relaxation, organization etc. Although I did not notice the age group recomendation I will keep the book as it is useful to the parents and grandma and will become my grandson's book when it is more level appropriate. I say that because he is very advanced when it comes to stories and reading.

While my child is too young to read this book on his own, I know it will be helpful for him in the future. As a parent of a child with sensory issues, I found that it helped enhance my understanding of his issues immensely (e.g, what HE is experiencing on a daily basis and how it might make him feel). The more insight and understanding a parent has on these issues, the better you can help your child. I highly recommend purchasing it.
