i borrowed this book from the library (before i bought it!) and it was a good read. It is thorough, well presented, and has enough recipes to get you started. You are steered on the right path in terms of oils that you should be cautious with ( which is a far cry from the recipes that you get on the 'net that just throws out any oil/herb combination without telling you the risks). For a starter aromatherapist, i can truly say that i do feel confident with the products that i make for myself and my family. It is really worth the price and more. You will find yourself reaching for it over and over again.
The reason why i gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the illustrations could have been more oraganized, and more attractively done. It may sound like splitting hairs, but if you tried to use the illustrations as a guide for plants for infused oils, you may be disappointed.

This book is GREAT! It goes into detail on each essential oil (i.e. origin, scent, flavor, use, warnings, description etc.) This book also goes into detail about various conditions of the body & skin and how the essential oil can remedy or help these situations (i.e. earache, headache, cold, flu, cough, acne, depression, anxiety, PMS, menopause etc.) It has A LOT of information contained in this book. This is definitely not the book you can sit down and read in one day. Very informative- A Must have for anyone interested in essential oils and aromatherapy.

I found Author to Law to be highly informative and full of take-away.This book is a must-read for any author, from the novice to accomplished. I initially wanted more information about copyright laws but discovered there were concessions to negotiate along with royalty rates I hadn't even considered.I wish I had read this before I signed my contract. Now I feel I have tools to work with. And this book is in my toolbelt.

You've finally received a book contract. Yeah! Congratulations and what excitement. Yet when you study the contract it is 15 or 16 pages full of legalese that you can't understand. What do you do? Sign it?

Here's a great tool to increase your understanding of the issues related to the legalese of contracts. It's not black and white but often in between and the words on the page make a huge difference. It's the author's responsibility to understand these words.

I love what these authors wrote in the final paragraph of their section on how to use the book: "Remember that no book can be a substitute for the advice of a good lawyer. But this book and others like it can--and should--help you better recognize the need to get good legal advice and help you better understand the advice you get. It can help make you a better consumer of legal services and a savvier provider of writing services. But it can't--and shouldn't be expected to--replace solid professional advice."

Here's a carefully written and researched book which explains complex terms in plain, easy-to-understand language. Get this book--and read it. If you do, you will be much wiser about legal matters in the world of publishing.

This book should've been called Entertainment & Media Law A to Z. It is both informative and extremely thorough in its description of the legal and business affairs of the publishing industry. It also provides basic information on recording industry practices as well as copyright & trademark law. This book does a terrific job of informing authors of many valuable resources that exist to assist them. As an attorney, I was impressed with the case law cited by the author. However, this book is written in plain English, and written in a way that people of all backgrounds could easily understand. I would say, to aspiring authors or literary agents alike, this book is a must have.

The latest installment in the "A-Z Legal Series" from Capital Books, Author Law A-Z: A Desktop Guide To Writers' Rights And Responsibilities packs the collective wisdom of author-lawyers Sallie Randolph, Stacy Davis, Anthony Elia and Karen Dustman into plain terms for lay readers - and writers! Author Law A-Z is organized like an encyclopedia, with A-Z entries of common legal and writing industry terms or issues that every author should know, from "abridgement" and "acceptable manuscript" to "young adult books" and Zapruder film", which denotes a landmark legal case about film rights concerning the home video film that accidentally documented the assassination of JFK. In addition to the entries, numerous tips, tricks, techniques, and warnings for the aspiring author in a legally complex world, from a sample demand letter (as written to a vanity print-on-demand publisher masquerading as a traditional publisher) to a sample complaint for copyright infringement, advice for what to say when one's editor calls, and much more. Enthusiastically recommended for spot research or simple cover-to-cover reading in order to grasp valuable basic lessons of the writing and publishing business.

Symbol of Excellence Award and Review in Exceptional Parent Magazine

We are delighted to announce that ASD A to Z and Autismo A-Z have been awarded the Symbol of Excellence. The following review will appear in the April 2007 edition of Exceptional Parent magazine.

Autism Spectrum Disorders from A to Z: is one of our primary resources for understanding ASD. We like several things about this book. First, its authors have personal knowledge of autism. Emily's son, Tom, has ASD. Barbara is Tom's aunt. Emily and Barbara share Tom and what he has taught them with us. Second, we like the book organization. Every chapter begins with a statement of what the chapter contents will teach the reader. Each chapter closes with a summary of chapter themes and lessons. Third, the book is written in an informal and friendly style that is accessible to parents, families, teachers and other professionals and to persons who have ASD. Fourth, the format is engaging and easy to follow. The pages and print are large and the authors make liberal use of, bullets, life examples and sample letters and checklists. Fifth, this book is available in Spanish.

ASD from A to Z is a wonderful resource for families and professionals who have limited time for reading and research due to the demands of living life. The book does not try to be a complete resource. Instead it focuses on the process of identifying, testing for and diagnosing ASD. It helps the individuals with ASD and their family members understand the context of diagnosis, the diagnostic assessment tools used and the process of receiving and understanding the diagnosis itself. The authors provide resources and research suggestions for understanding the potential causes of autism and share how to form or participate in information sharing groups and ideas. The authors provide even more information on their Website, http://www.asdAtoZ.com. This book has earned the EP Symbol of Excellence.

After purchasing many books on Autism Spectrum Disorders I finally found one that made it clear what to do with the diagnosis, how to get help, and how to handle a part of my life that has seemed so out of control. After my son was diagnosed I had no idea what to do. This book covers all of my questions and answered them clearly. I especially love the real life stories the Doyle sisters use to help me "get it".
There wasn't so much technical jargon that it interfered with my reading and understanding the material.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about Autism Spectum disorders and how to manage your life with them. I've loaned this book to 2 preschool teachers and a family that is trying to understand the Spectrum disorders.
This book is a necessary element to your home library or a great gift to family members and teachers alike.

I highly recommend this book which is logically organized in an easy-to-read format. As the title suggests, it answered all my questions regarding early signs and symptoms, the difference between an autism spectrum disorder and ADHD, appropriate testing and diagnosis, all the way through interventions and treatment. The two authors include case history and examples that parents can relate to, especially since one of the authors is a parent of a child diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. I have referred to this book many times to quickly look up information, and have found the bulleted lists and tables extremely helpful, especially since I am a visual learner!

I just received this book in the mail and cannot wait to get started on my first batch of bagels! The author has a great variety of recipes (much more than I was expecting!), plus a great selection of normal to unique spreads for your bagels. I am particulary excited about the recipe for curing my own lox, which is next to impossible to get (especially decent lox) in the small town that I live in. With what appear to be nicely detailed instructions, including a trouble-shooting section, I think this book is going to be getting quite a bit of use!

Great system for retarding ageing and maintaining vitality

Finally, all the latest research about ageing and vitality is turned into a complete, easy to follow system designed to promote vitality and health - no matter what your age. The authors have clearly done their homework and the section on insulin resistance is vital, as I know personally. As someone with insulin resistance, I know I'm at higher risk for thyroid disease, high choleterol and diabetes. The author demonstrates how proper diet and exercise can ward off further problems and go a long way towards eliminating unnecessary medications and diseases. In addition to this information, there's detailed tips on how to use body-building to prevent osteoporosis as well as lesser known information that can make a world of difference in feeling truly healthy and engergetic. One of the best books I've ever read on the subject!

Even as a health educator, I never considered weight lifting for myself. Only body builders and teenage boys need strength training, right? Well, after seeing Dr. Evans at a seminar and reading this book, I've started lifting weights, at the age of 30, and plan to do it until I'm 98! I'm starting early so I will be able to avoid developing chronic diseases such as diabetes and avoid admission to a rest home! The scientific information on this now-famous research on 90-year-olds is easy to understand. Two 12-week programs for prolonging vitality, as used in their research, are presented: one for beginners and non-exercisers and one for people who have been exercising regularly (not for professional athletes, obviously). Practical guidelines are given for people who have never done any strength training. This information is so important, I recommend this book to all appropriate patients with diabetes and high cholesterol. It may be the only way for all of us to realistically maintain a healthy amount of muscle, and therefore avoid gaining body fat, as we age. (In other words, this could be the best weight-management book ever!) Although the book seems to be written for those already in their middle years, people of all ages could benefit from this advice. As their research shows, if a 90-year-old can put on muscle, so can we!

Without a doubt, this is the best book I have ever read on Exercise & Aging. I have been in the health & fitness industry for 20+ years and there is nothing that comes close to matching the quality of this book. Evans, with others at Harvard and Tufts University, did the actual research themselves before writing this book. While others continue to do stretching and circuit training w/ their senior clients w/ minimal results, Evans proves that it is the high intensity strength training that will produce the most significant changes for seniors who want to remain self-sufficient. If you are a senior or someone who works directly w/ seniors, I can't encourage strongly enough to go out immediately and get a copy of this book.

Mercer Nails Buy-Sell Agreement Valuation
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-03
The book offers a fresh look at buy-sell agreements through the lens of the business appraiser, who too often enters the picture after, as the book states, "the ox is in the ditch." Buy-Sell Agreements discusses in-depth the pricing and valuation provisions of buy-sell agreements, arguably the only important provisions, especially once a triggering event has occurred. However, this book also is written from the viewpoint of someone who has signed buy-sell agreements and who has had significant experience in dealing with signed buy-sell agreements. Mercer's experience shines throughout the tome.

To summarize Buy-Sell Agreements in one word, that word would be "methodical." Mercer focuses like a laser beam on virtually all of the possible permutations of the pricing and valuation provisions of buy-sell agreements, together with the advantages and disadvantages of each. Too many of the buy-sell agreements that I see have valuation methods that have far more disadvantages than advantages.

If you are looking for a book that has forms or that discusses the tax consequences of buy-sell agreements, this is not it. However, if you are looking for a book that has a comprehensive discussion of the pricing and valuation aspects of buy-sell agreements (which I've really not ever seen before), this is it.

Buy-Sell Agreements is peppered throughout with charts comparing and summarizing its discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of each form of valuation/appraiser provision of buy-sell agreements, as well as action steps. However, Buy-Sell Agreements offers a comprehensive buy-sell audit checklist that alone makes it worthy of purchase, serious use and study.

Perhaps not too surprisingly when coming from a business appraiser, Buy-Sell Agreements makes a case for beginning a buy-sell agreement with a valuation and for regular valuations, in a manner similar to ESOP's. Nevertheless, Mercer makes a very strong case for his position, which he backs up with reflections, actual situations (no case citations though), stating the advantages and disadvantages of the type of buy-sell agreement and probing questions.

Buy-Sell Agreements informs estate planners that there are six defining elements of valuation of a subject company in a buy-sell agreement: the standard of value (e.g., "fair market value"), the level of value (e.g., marketable minority), the "as-of" date, the qualifications of appraisers, the appraisal standards and funding mechanisms. Very few of the buy-sell agreements that I review contain all of these elements.

At $79, Buy-Sell Agreements is a no-brainer addition to the library of every one who works with, signs or who drafts buy-sell agreements. In fact, it is a must-read.

Financial professionals and attorneys - read "Buy-Sell Agreements: Ticking Time Bombs or Reasonable Resolutions?" Chris Mercer has researched this area in great detail and has presented his findings in a very clear and understandable manner. This in depth book will save you time and help your clients build a better buy-sell agreement and hopefully keep them out of litigation. The buy-sell audit checklist is also a helpful tool. This book was needed and Mercer has delivered. Well done.

In the teacher's manual to our Business Associations case book, my friend, colleague and coauthor Bill Klein posits that "any lawyer who advises people entering into a business venture and who fails to urge the adoption of a buy sell agreement is guilty of malpractice." Z. Christopher Mercer's new book Buy-Sell Agreements: Ticking Time Bombs or Reasonable Resolutions offers a tremendously useful guide to these remarkably important contracts. In it, he provides guidance for business people and their financial advisors to use in assessing the need for a buy-sell agreement and, if one is appropriate, deciding on key terms. It will also be very useful to counsel drafting buy-sell provisions, as it offers drafting checklists and samples of how various issues can be treated. I recommend it very highly.

This book really helped me when caring for my Grandmother. The tips in the book were helpful in everyday living. This book in particular helped so much since my Grandmother had Dementia. It is very USER FRIENDLY whether you read it completely or just skim through and use it as a tips guide. You can tell that the author had a real background in caregiving. The Illustrations and song titles were absolutely precious and and very appropriate, each chapter having its own song that identifies with the Baby-boomer population. So many of that generation are now looking at caring for their loved ones. Five stars to the author and illustrator for their creativity and real help for those of us now caring for their loved ones. I enjoyed the book and was helped enough by it that I purchased her other 3 books, "Caregiving Tips A-Z", "Hospice Care at Home", and "The Caring Caregivers Guide to Dealing with Guilt". This book is indeed "a practical guide" for getting through each day-- in a way that only caregivers can understand. The information in it has made my days better than they would have been otherwise. The chapters on communication and behavioral changes have helped in developing caregiver skills; and there are other helpful chapters on improving the home set-up and managing problems with family members. I was especially impressed with the detailed information put into this book on everything from adult role changes to getting the keys back from your parent. It worked for me!

I lost my grandfather recently to Alzheimer's disease and am currently repeating the same terrible ordeal with my grandmother. It is a long, long, painful journey and many questions and concerns have burdened my family while dealing with this affliction. Ms. Calo-oy's book provides an exhaustive reference for the myriads of scenarios and situations a caregiver will encounter. This book is written from a sensitive and respectful point of view that not only addresses the loved one's many needs, but the often unknown and misunderstood needs of the caregiver as well. I found this book very encouraging and uplifting. I recommend this book to any individual or institution that is involved with caregiving!

A Caribbean Journey from A to Y (Read and Discover What Happened to the Z) is an ABC picturebook that leads the reader through the Caribbean islands as well as through the alphabet. From Aruba to Trinidad and alligator to yam, A Caribbean Journey from A to Y is filled with fun facts about life, cuisine, fun, and culture in island nations! "What words begin with Z? Zoo begins with Z, but we'd rather use it for zebra. We don't have zebras in the Caribbean (except at the zoo), but that doesn't matter. We will take our Z to Africa, where zebras are really from, and where they still run free." Simple, color illustrations in the style of a child's drawing enliven this wonderfully educational picturebook.

This book is filled with suspense, history, knowledge and fun. This is a great book to read aloud, in a classroom, on the plane, etc. As a father, I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for more than an alphabet book, but a book that will leave the reader wanting to learn more about the caribbean islands and a better understanding about how the caribbean came to be.

Mario Picayo's A Caribbean Journey from A to Y creates a sincere, helpful template for readers as they navigate the Caribbean Islands using the alphabet as their guide from letters A to Y (leaving the reader in suspense wondering where the Z has gone to). Each letter serves as a looking glass into Caribbean culture by representing its rich vegetation, diverse array of animals, and, most importantly the great people that inhabit these islands. While the alphabet guides the reader, Earleen Griswold's illustrations supplement the text with their lush, vivid colors that are diverse as the Caribbean itself. Bright hues of vibrant blues skies, colorful fish, and hot orange suns catch the eyes as well as the imagination. The story supplies the reader with factual and historical insight in addition to instilling a sense of great pride by uniting the Caribbean Islands by way of highlighting their origins to their African roots. I highly recommend this book especially for reading to children. The striking illustrations and enriching text are perfect for showing the little ones. A great read for children and grown-ups alike.

This is the first volume in Shakhashiri's unequalled Chemical Demonstrations series. There are over 80 demonstrations in this book, each one with a list of required materials, a detailed procedure, notes on hazards and disposal, a discussion of the chemical principles involved, and references. The demonstrations cover the areas of thermochemistry (Chapter 1), Chemiluminescence (Chapter 2), Polymers (Chapter 3), and Equilibria of Metal Ion Precipitates and Complexes (Chapter 4). Included in the introductory text is an article by Richard W. Ramette entitled "Exocharmic Reactions" which relates how chemical demonstrations for teaching purposes have evolved and what qualities the successful demonstrator should possess for maximum impact.

There is absolutely nothing so good as a demonstration for getting students interested in chemistry and keeping them interested. Demonstrations may take a bit of extra work on the part of the teacher, but they are worth the effort, and the effort is minimal when Shakhashiri has written such a magnificant collection of useful experiments.

This Book is Great!!!

I acutally love this book for chem demonstrations. Shakhashiri gives in depth explanations for all of his demonstrations and it is just a great book. I recommend this book to anyone who is doing any demonstrations.

The book is very interesting and useful for teachers whom use the lecture and demostration method in teaching chemistry. The experiments are well tested and one can create some other new experiments taking the basis from this book. I recommend the whole series (Vols. 1 to 4). Dr. Shakhashiri is a talent chemistry teacher and he transmits his enthusiasm in teaching this science.

THIS BOOK IS A MUST HAVE FOR CHEMISTRY TEACHERS!

I am a first year teacher and this book has been the best investment I've made. I may have had to buy it with my own money, but it has been worth every cent. Lots of ideas are presented in this book and it gives really good ways to integrate the demonstrations to teach particular concepts. I plan to buy the other three books by this author.

I have purchased this book in preparation for future use. I have no feedback on the actual book yet, though the purchase process was fine, no problems....

THE most complete psychopharmacology clinical text. You will find rare side effects and drug-drug interactions that would be omitted in any other clinical text and that you would only discover by doing a literature search. Many tables make comparison between drugs of the same class easy. Also has a section on herbal products and pages of patient information sheets that can be photocopied and given to patients. This is a gem.
