If ever their was an author that should have never learned to write, it is R.L. Stine. After reading this awful book I have found many similarities between this and Goosebumps. His writing is bland and I can predict exactly what is going to happen. The reason why? Because he used the same plot in about 14 other books just with different names. If there was a lower score, I would have used it. R.L. Stine I pity you.

Great Author. Great Idea. Not So Great Book...

After waiting months to finally get my hands on the book I was not so pleased with what I read. Considering that I like Indiana, and liked RL Stine I figured it would be a good book. Well the plot was okay and the characters were fairly established, but if every time that Indiana is written in the book they replaced it with "Steve Waserbach" it wouldn't have made a difference! It was not Indiana Jones! The setting wasn't an Indiana Jones like setting! How many times have you pictured Indiana Jones going fishing with some 13 year old for fun? I don't think so!

All of the books in this series are fun for the reader, because they involve the reader in the story. In fact, the reader controls where the story goes. The plot in this book is great, as Indy and the reader take an adventure into the Himilayas. A great read especially for younger readers.

R.L. Stine, "Material Decade" Style!

Actually originally written in 1983, NOT 1995, (I happen to have the original 1983 paperback sitting right in front of me as I write this), this is NOT a new book by R.L. Stine, but rather something he wrote WAAAAAYYYY back before the entire "Goosebumps!" thing even existed. If you want to say you "knew him when", read this book. It was Volume 4 of the "Twist-a-Plot" series, a long-since failed copycat of the popular Choose Your Own Adventures that started--and ended--in the early '80s. The book itself is pretty fun, standard dungeons and dragons, wizards and warriors stuff. Little bits of humour such as "Does it make you feel any better to know that the lizard suffered indegestion?" after getting eaten by a dragon are cute at first, but get trite and then quickly rather annoying as the book wears on. If you're a true R.L. Stine fan, get this book, or if you already HAVE the original, KEEP IT, 'cos it's probably a collector's item by now. But otherwise, don't bother--it's not worth the hassle. ...Notorious

Fear Street

Could you imagine walking down Fear Street all alone? Well if you do you might see some ghost moaning, coming out of Fear Mansion, or ghouls from Fear Cemetery, and slimy, gruesome, dripping sea creatures from the deeps of Fear Lake. If you read any of the many Fear Street books written by R.L. Stine you might believe that it is all real or is it? In the book Nightmare in 3-D there is a 6th grader who lives on Fear Street his name is Wesley Parker. He is trying to see what the mystery picture is that's in this stereogram that is in 3-D. There are twins that made him so mad that he is going to try to win the contest before the twins do. The contest is requires Wesley to find out what the mystery picture is in the stereogram. When he starts to see in 3-D he sees a tree, but in the tree there is a praying mantis. The mantis does something that is very much out of the ordinary. Wes sees the mantis move, but just then there was a moth in his room that hits the mystery stereogram. The 3-D image that is in the picture ate the moth that was outside of the picture.
I think that the book was good because I really like scary books. It was also good because it was exciting and sometimes I did not want to stop reading the book when I had to. There were a couple of funny parts. The thing that I thought was the funniest is that before Wes saw what was in the picture, his sister showed him another stereogram that was on the back of a cereal box. The picture that was in the stereogram was a mouse, and Wesley's cat Clawd looked at it then pounced on the box.
The part that I did not like about the book was the ending of the book because it just leaves you hanging. Another part that I did not like was that it did not say if they had ever seen the guy who was in Sal's Five and Ten. But other than that the book was really

R.L. Stine's Goosebumps series of horror books for children is listed in the Guinness World Records Millennium Edition 2000 as the world's top-selling children's book series. To date, there have been more than two hundred million Goosebumps books published. For one of the world's most prolific authors of children's books, Stine is remarkably humble, according to Michelle Parker-Rock in her recent biography. The grandson of Russian immigrants, he grew up in the Columbus, Ohio, suburb of Bexley. When he was nine years old, he discovered an old portable typewriter in the forbidden attic of his childhood home. From that moment on, he was determined to be a writer. Stine wrote all through high school and college, and made a living in New York City by writing and editing magazines for children. His first literary love was humor, but a freelance job writing horror turned into his successful career as the creator of Goosebumps and other series, including Fear Street.
Parker-Rock's biography, one of the titles in the series Authors Teens Love, draws most of its information from a lengthy interview with Stine, the transcript of which is included at the end of the book, as well as from Stine's 1997 autobiography It Came From Ohio! My Life as a Writer (Scholastic). Except for a photograph of the thirteen-year-old Bobby Stine at his bar mitzvah and a definition in the glossary, there is no other Jewish content in this book. While not an important addition to Jewish libraries, this comprehensive biography is a necessary purchase for public and school libraries with other titles in the series. Middle school students and younger teens needing to write a report on a favorite author will be drawn to the straightforward prose and the wealth of additional material, such as a helpful timeline of Stine's life and publishing career, a complete listing of Stine's spooky stories, detailed chapter notes, and a list of websites.
