Goosebumps Graphix is a great read for fans of the origanal and kids that have no idea what it is. as a grown adult (1987 kid) who grew up reading Goosebumps and watching the show, I'd say that Goosebumps Graphix is a perfect choice for a kid like me. I let one of my younger friends (knowed notheing about Goosebumps) borrow it and now its addicted. I just cant wait till they make more.

This book has three different stories: One day at Horrorland, Deep Trouble and shocker on Shock Street. All of these stories are based off of R.L Stine books. If you are wanting a good scare without all the blood and gore of really scary books read this one.

I read this book more than a decade ago, and much of the events are not fresh on my mind. However, I do remember coming away from this book with a brighter outlook on adventure in the sea. The story, while having a hammerhead shark on the cover and being a Goosebumps installment, is not designed so much as a horror or thriller, but as a cautionary tale about our duty to protect the world around us.

Deep Trouble, while not great literature, is probably as close as you're going to get with Stine or Goosebumps, and honestly, I'm still impressed with this delightfully intelligent turn by the famed children's author. I remember sitting in the library and reading this book from cover to cover in one sitting. It's not a horror story, but of all the Goosebumps books out there, it's probably the one WORTH reading.

My favorite Goosebumps book

I was an avid reader of the Goosebumps series when I was younger, so much so that I read every single title in the series, even though by the time the last one was published, I was old enough to know they really weren't very good, particularly toward the end. Deep Trouble was my favorite, though I can understand why others my not have liked it. There was nothing even remotely scary about it, and in spite of the cover, I don't remember any shark playing a major role (I think there was a brief shark scare at the beginning, in one of those irrelevant sequences Stine often used to keep the book moving). The plot was that the main character's uncle, a marine biologist or something, was part of the crew on a ship that captured a meraid and was planning to sell it into captivity, or to scientists who wanted to perform unethical experiments on it, or something that would at any rate make the mermaid very unhappy. One of the main guys turns out to be a traitor who tries to kill the main characters, but in the end everything works out fine and the mermaid is released back to the wild, etc. etc.

What impressed me about this book was the relationship between Billy (aforementioned main character) and the mermaid, which I don't remember speaking. Perhaps because the opporunities for scares don't present themselves as often in this kind of plot as they might in, say, Night of the Living Dummy, Stine (not the most subtle of writers) turned it into a much more introspective novel than one would normally expect in this series. The main conflict is actually an internal one, as Billy debates whether to free the mermaid and clear his conscience, or obey the adults, who, to a twelve-year-old, are usually morally infallible. Stine also manages to garner the appropriate amount of sympathy for the mermaid. Maybe it's not as thrilling as a typical Goosebumps entry, but it's very touching and understated, which is a rarity from this author.

Have you ever been in a lagoon? The book I read was "Deep Trouble". The book is about a boy name Billy and his sister name Sheena. They go stay with their uncle, William Deep. They lived in a place called the Cassandra. When they were going to leave, Billy went swimming in the lagoon and he got bit in the ankle by a hammer shark. When they were going to leave for sure a big boat came with two people inside they said they have spotted a mermaid around here. They told William Deep if he caught the mermaid that they will give him one million dollars. Billy caught the mermaid and keeps it and started to do tests on it. Alexander a assistant of them and four other men stole the mermaid and started to drown Billy and Sheena and Billy's uncle were trap in a big tank. They get free by other mermaids that came then they found the mermaid and they let it go. When the zoo people came they told them that there was no mermaid it was just an illusion.

When I first saw the cover of this book it looked really cool to me because it had a big shark on it. I thought this book would be more about sharks like other reviews said but it had mermaids in it instead. Even though it wasn't really about sharks I still like the characters and the storyline of the book. This book is about a brother and sister, Sheena and Billy who are visiting there uncle Dr.Deep, who studies things in the water. In the book everyone is on a ship. Later in the book Billy finds a mermaid in the water. This book isn't a super scary book, but it is for sure one you have to read in the series, its a good book!!

R.L. STINE BROKE OFF OF HIS USUAL CHILDREN HORROR STORIES AND ATTEMPTED TO WRITE A SERIES FOR HIGH SCHOOLERS. THIS BOOK BEGINS THE SENIORS SERIES. IT LEADS OFF WITH A END OF JUNIOR YEAR PARTY. THE HOST OF THE PARTY HAS A VISION AND SHE SEES ALL THE SENIORS LAYING IN COFFINS. THE STUDENTS DON'T BELIEVE HER, BUT THEN JOSIE CASTS A SPELL THAT KILLS HER TEACHER, AND EVENTUALLY, A SCENE ARAISES WHERE THE STUDENTS MIGHT JUST END UP THE COFFINS. IS THERE A WAY FOR JOSIE TO RIGHT ALL THE WRONG SHE DID? OR IS THE SENIOR CLASS DOOMED?
THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THIS SERIES AND HIS OTHERS IS THAT THIS IS ONE IS WRITTEN FOR A MORE MATURE GROUP, NOT OLDER TEENS, BUT EARLY HIGHSCHOOLER MIGHT ENJOY THIS SERIES.

The only problem was the vampire crap. It was just thrown into the book for the heck of it. The story was never forced. It always flowed.

This isn't the kind of book that has terror on every page. The beginning and middle are pretty boring. A few chapters are really interesting, but it doesn't get scary until the ending. Don't read this book just for the ending. Read this book if you plan to read the other Seniors books, which are much more scary.

A good start to a thrilling series!

"Lets Party" is the first book in a 12-part series, written by R.L. Stine. As a Jr. High Reading Teacher, I found this book to be age appropriate and interesting to kids 12-15. (Older kids may enjoy these books however).
The series follows the lives of a senior class, who all attend Shadyside High School. The author does a great job, of making sure all types of kids are represented, the rich, poor, jocks, nerds, etc.
This book opens with the ending of their Junior year, and summer is upon them. We meet most of the senior class, (most are mentioned by name)but the book focuses on three storylines.
The first storyline features, Josh Maxwell, who hangs out with his friends Mickey and Matty. Josh had been going out with Debra Lake, however now Debra is spending a considerable, amount of time with creepy Clark Dickson. Who everyone nicknamed "Count Clarkula" due to his vampirish outlook. Is Clark really a vampire? Who is calling Josh and threatening him, warning him to stay away from Debra? This storyline last through the entire book.
The second storyline, features Josh step-sister Josie, who is upset with her Math teacher, Mr. Torkelson. She gets together with fellow seniors, Deidre Palmer, and Jennifer Fear. They cast a doom spell on their teacher.
Here is where the plot unfolds. Josie unwittingly casts a "Doom Spell" on the entire senior class. This sets the stage for the rest of the books in the series.
Third, another senior, rich girl Trisha Conrad, has a vision, of all the Seniors in their coffins at graduation day. Is this just a bad dream or a prophecy set in stone?
Trisha has a huge party (Hence the name of the book) and invites most of the Senior class. Here a murder game is played, is it just pretend or does someone take things too far? We also see the love interests, the rivalries, and the friendships, that are very typical of young people.
"Let's Party" ends with a couple of cliff hangers, which keeps the readers interest.
It is important for readers new to this book, to understand that this is a series, and not all their questions will be answered. They need to read the entire series. This is a pretty good book, that sets the stage quite well.

Warning Spoilers!!

Now for the criticism!

There is no deaths, for a series, that comes off as a "Who will survive" thriller, nobody dies! The only death is Mr. Torkelson, the Math Teacher, in a freak car accident. I felt R.L. Stine could of gotten the ball rolling and had one or two characters knocked off.

The vampire storyline, starts out promising, but then at the end of the book (and I mean the end!) the reader finds out the threatening phone calls were made by Matty, (his friend and the comedian of the Senior Class)as a joke. It's almost as if Stine didn't know where to go with this, so he decided to throw that in there to put an end to it. I found it insulting to the reader.

It was okay, not the best

Lets party is the first book in the fear street seniors series. The whole series is about Trisha's(one of the characters)vision of all the seniors lying in coffins. Lets party is by far the grossest in the twelve book series. Its about Josie, the main character in this book, and how she does a doom spell on her teacher because he gave her a bad grade even when she did extra credit. It comes true though, and her teacher dies in a bad car accident. Now she's really scared because she did another doom spell on Marla Newman, a snob. Then the next day, theres a party @ Trish'a mansion. They play a murder game and marla newman ends up being "dead". Its all a joke but all of a sudden a creature comes in and murders all the seniors except Josie, and she has to find outn a way to turn back time to not make that happen, she does and everybody is saved....the end.

It's a Killer Party!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-01-04
Somehow, my library said this was the first book in the Fear Street series, but it's not...its way down on the list, it's 45 in the series. All-Night Party does fine as a stand alone book, though I do wonder if there isn't more about the location and background (since I believe all the stores are set in and around the town of Shadyside). In this book we have a medium cast of teenagers who set out to jokingly kidnap their friend Cindy to her birthday party out at a deserted cabin on Fear Island. During the botched kidnapping, one of the friends reveals that here is an escaped prison inmate out on the loose, but that doesn't stop our intrepid party goers. All in all, it's a pretty typical set up; kids alone on an island with no phone, a remote cabin, dark and stormy night and tension amongst friends while the spoiled and selfish birthday girl is unaware that she's made her very last birthday wish!

The characters include Hannah Waters, Cindy's oldest best friend; Gretchen Davies, a relatively new girl who's just glad to be accepted by the group but is sometimes put off by Cindy's selfish and vain behavior; Gil Shepherd, Hannah's boyfriend (who used to be Cindy's boyfriend until her parents wouldn't let her see him anymore); Jackson Kane, the kinda intense and creepy guy, a loner; Patrick Munson a friend whom Cindy loves to tease; and Cindy, the spoiled and self-centered birthday girl. They're all pretty typical teenage characters full of angst and melodramatic goings on...Hannah and Cindy vie for Gil's attention; Cindy likes to have whatever Hannah is wants whether she really wants it or not, and so on.

All-Night Party takes all that, throws in the prospect of an escaped killer convict, mixes in a dark and stormy night and you've got an easy set up for a teenage murder-mystery! When Cindy turns up dead, the party goers initially think the maniac is on the island, but it slowly dawns on them that the killer isn't some unknown lunatic...it's one of them. That's when things get interesting...who did it? Read though this quick little mystery and see if you can piece it together before the big "reveal" at the end.

Overall, All-Night Party has good atmosphere and the antagonism between the characters is good, but occasionally grating (a bit overdone), and I enjoyed figuring out who done it (early on unfortunately), but it was still a fun read, kind of the way a B movie is still fun to watch even though you figure out who the killer is halfway through the movie! I give it three stars, a light and entertaining murder-mystery with classic horror elements.

This is a great book by R.L. Stine of
the Fear Street books. As all R.L . Stine books
this is a mystery. But this is a much different way
to approaching the genre of mystery.

This is about a group of students at Shady Side
High School. When one girl's birthday approaches, they
decide to throw a surprise birthday party for her on
Fear Island which is about two miles away from their houses. Little
did they know one boy brought a gun. When one girl
noticed it she asked him about it and then
he looked down and said that his dad gave him
the gun for the trip because he told his son
there was an escaped murder on Fear Island. He said he did not want to ruin the
party so he never mentioned it. So they go anyway but
when the party girl is found dead in the kitchen they
all fear for their lives. Was it one of their friends
or the escaped murderer?

I would recommend this book to Sixth, Seventh, and Eight
graders. This is considered a young adult book. I would
definately agree with that because even being in seventh
grade the book actually scared me at parts.

Book Review
All-Night Party by: R.L Stine
This story is a book about a girl named Gretchen. Gretchen and her friends throw a suprise party for there other friend Sindy. This "suprise" party is at an Island called Fear Island. But unfortunately someone dies, who will it be? The friends were Hanna, Patrick, Jackson, Gill, and Marco(Gretchen's boyfriend). The "suprise" party was supposed to be suprising, special, and fun, but it turns out to be like a horrifying murder movie. Patrick says that there's an escape prisoner on the loose. Now were not sure if the escape prisoner is the murderer?
As you can see, this was one of my favorite books. It was one of the most frightening books in my history of life. I also thought this book was the best scripted and described book out of all the books I have read in my past. I recommend reading this book or the Fear Street series... Keep reading!!!

It was an okay book. About a bunch of teens having a birthday party on a remote island. Most people leave the house then when returning one girl finds a surprize in the kitchen. The main problem in this book was that R.L. Stine tried to put too much suspense in it and it sort of gets old. just buy a used copy for a penny for reading when you have nothing else to do. I reccomend that you get the babysitter 1 by R.L. It's one of my favorites!

This story is about four kids who go through some horrifying things from dead corpse to just playing pranks on each other.
When this story begins it tells about the four children. First Cassie Martin who hung out with three boys. Cassis was athletic all her life between sports, swimming, and bike riding and just hanging out. One of the boys is Scott Baldwin which Cassie had a secret crush on. Scott was one of the all around guys. He was the starting fullback for his football team and an all state wrestler. He was also a class reprehensive to the student government. The second boy is Bruce Wrinkleman or Winks for short. Winks love to play jokes on everybody especially Eddie. Now Eddie is the last boy and everybody to play jokes on he gets so scared that everybody started call him scared Katz.
When the story starts they all meet up at Scott's house to do homework. When you also hear about Winks first prank on Eddie. Winks get a real eye from Eddies Cousin Jerry. When they all get there they all have a driving test in a few weeks. They all talk Scott into taking his parents car while there away. When they take the car out to a deserted highway then they head home before his parents get home. The next day they meet at Eddie's house. While his parents are at a party a few blocks away they take his parents car out when they start home they hit a man out of nowhere. They all freak out. Eddie almost passes out from being scared so bad. They all think there going to jail. They through him in the ditch near by. Then they go home. For a few weeks it eats them up until they call Eddies cousin and he says that the body is missing from the morgue. The next couple day's weird things had been happening. Next Winks get hit and run. Cassie gets a not saying she's next. She starts freaking out. After she takes her driving test she helps Eddie with his test while there out on the deserted highway they get a flat. After Cassie opens the trunk she finds the corpus in the back of Eddie's car. Then he tries to kill her. She thinks she's found out who's been playing this evil prank on them the whole time and tried to kill all of them and run over Winks.

When the goo comes alive... it is pretty stupid.
My scale on these children's books is simple:
Would I give this book to my own kid to read?
In this case the answer is no.
My reasons:
1) Magic is confused with chemistry and science in this book.
2) Carl Sagan talked about the "Demon infested world":
I don't think such ideas should be perpetuated as myths to our children as in this book.
They can study myths later...

The third in the Goosebumps series, Monster Blood is a riot of creepiness and is sure not to disappoint! I think I see a pattern developing (though I suppose three books in is a bit too soon to make any final judgments)...this series seems to be more about a campy and creepy type of vibe than a truly horrific/scary one (though the first one, I felt was genuinely scary in places), I'm getting a bit of Tales from the Crypt Jr. feel as I am going through the series and I rather like that.

In this volume, we meet Evan (and his new friend Andy). Evan has come for a few weeks to say with his Great-Aunt while his parents are looking for a new home for them to buy...the main problem with this being that his Great Aunt is deaf, stubborn and a bit creepy. After being dropped off, Evan is sure he's going to be miserable for the whole time he's there and this is largely confirmed when he is immediately set upon by the local bullies (twins). He is temporarily saved by Andy who quickly becomes his friend and they set off together to browse the old toy store that is going out of business. As Andy looks for a present for her cousin and comes up empty handed, Evan discovers a can of "monster blood" and simply must have it. The owner sells it reluctantly and Evan and Andy scurry out of the shop with their new prize. After getting it home, they play with it for a while and as with all Goosebumps books...it's all down hill from there. Something strange is happening with the monster blood...it's growing, expanding and starting to take on a life of it's own! What will Evan do...how did this happen, read and find out...you won't be disappointed!

This is the one of the many books of the Fear Street series, and it's really good. Fear Street is a series about scary and/or supernatural events that happen to teenagers in a ficitional town called Shadyside. In this book, two best friends find a duffle bag stuffed with thousands of dollars. The friend who comes from a wealthy family wants to turn it in, but her poor friend begs her to bury the money with her and keep it secret until they can spilt it up and share it. One tells her boyfriend, and tricks and twists proceed. This has a pretty good twist ending and gives a good taste of future books in the series.Pulitizer material it's not, but for young teens, or anyone wanting a quick thrilling read, this suits the bill just fine.

I bought one book from the series at a book fair and my students had to have all of them. I ordered this book a month ago and it never stays in the book bin. A student is reading it at all times.

Very "Rich" Book!

Sydney and Emma are best friends. Sydney is sort of rich, and Emma is poor, and her mom needs an operation. Wheen Emma and Sydney take out the trash at a movie theater they both work at, Sydney's sterling silver braclet fell in the dumpster. They dug for it, and they found it. But hooked on to it was a bag of filled with about $100,000 worth of 50 dollar bills. Sydney wanted to turn it in to the police, but because Emma needed it more she made Sydney bury it in the Fear Street Woods. When Sydney comes home she finds Jason, her boyfriend. she tells him about the money. Now he's desperate for the money. He would do anything for the money, even if it means killing Emma...
Great book. It has a really wierd ending that you would never guss.

A rich girl who doesn't financially need to work, but only works so that she knows what it is like to have to work, and a poor girl who has to work find a bag of money. The rich girl doesn't need the money, but the poor wants it. They decide to hold it for a while and if nobody claims it, they'll keep it. The suspense is very thrilling, because you don't know if anybody will claim it or not. And I'm not going to tell because you have to read the book yourself and I don't want to ruin it for anyone.

I've read many R.L. Stine Fear Street Books, and even though they are all good, this book is one of the better ones.

This is the 3rd book in the baby-sitter series. The first two were fantastic, but this one fell somewhat flat. I can see why this book went the way that it did, but because the readers are so invested in Jenny, it makes the ending a big disapointment. It's still an okay read, and the next sequel gets better. If you liked the first 2 books, you have to read this one, but if you haven't, skip this one and buy the first one!!

Once upon a time their was a woman that got hired to babysitter and then as soon as she was alone with the baby someone knocks at the door and she answers and it's a person that she doesn't know and that person says that he needs to use the phone and the restroom because he is lost and then she said no at first but then he kept on insisting and instill she said alright but do it quick. After that well that is just the myth.
The thing is that in a little town there is a serious killer that has been killing babysitters. Most of the time he would just lay that he is lost or that he will keep calling and threatening. Then he just waits till the babysitter is alone in the house and stuff like that. So yeah this is what really happened "ding dong!" goes the door bell "ding dong!" goes again. The ding dong wouldn't stop until someone from inside said, "coming, coming!" As soon as the babysitter opens the door the person said "Hi" ohm... I got lost and I need to use the phone and the restroom may I please use it. The babysitter said no at first but he kept on insisting. Until the babysitter said ok fine but do it quick. Then the men went inside of the house and then it happened. I like this book because it is very surprising and you may never know what will happen next. I recommend this book because it is tight and very interesting.

Jenny has had tramatic babysitting experiences in the past. It's time for her to move on with her life; she needs a change of scenery. Her mom lets her spend the summer upstate with her cousin, Debra.

Unfortunately, Debra is also a babysitter. Will that bring back bad memories for Jenny? Maybe if Jenny just stays away from the house where Debra is babysitting . . .

Jenny gets a job at a horse riding camp. Jenny loves riding horses, and this will be a wonderful experience for her. Perhaps get her away from the babysitting world . . .

Meanwhile, Debra begins to get spooky calls while she is babysitting. What is it with the babysitters? Why are people harrassing them? And who is doing it? You will find out.

The babysitter 3 by R. L. Stine was a terrific book. It was about this teen named Jenny, she's had troubles in the past while she was babysitting. While she was babysitting the father of the baby tried to kill her. After the incident her mother said that she should get different scenery. So she went to her cousin's house and stayed for the summer. Her cousin is also a babysitter and while Jenny is their, they go babysitting but Jenny is so nervous she freaks out while their there and never wants to go with her again. Debbie her cousin keeps getting these weird calls that her Cousin Jenny used to get from the man that tried to kill Jenny, but the man that tried to kill Jenny was dead. They kept getting notes and calls. I rate this book an A-. I also recommend this book to 13-17 year olds. I cant wait to read all the other babysitter books.

The Babysitter III by R.L. Stine

"Babes, I'm back babes, and company is coming." Jenny's cousin is getting these frightening calls.

Jenny still believes the man who tried to kill her is alive, coming back for her. At the same time, her cousin Debra gets these horrifying calls, while Jenny is having horrifying nightmares. Debra says it's all a big joke but Jenny on the other hand says it's no joke.
Everyone is surprised with what "Mr. Hagen" does. Jenny's nightmares keep growing worse. Mr. Hagen always used a dry, crackling voice when he called and that's what Debra's been hearing on the phone calls.
R.L. Stine's blood thirsty books are always a scare, especially his three books of The Babysitter. So babysitting is an easy job, right?
Let's read the book and find out, but watch out because on Shadyside's haunted Fear Street babysitting can be a deadly job. R.L. Stine's books are killer. Literally! Read this book if you dare!
