My son who is developmentally delayed and 10 yrs old, hates reading but loves the Goosebumps books. He's picky about the ones he reads cause some of them do scare him. He reviews them at the library at school and them comes home with the ones he wants to read. My 25 yr old when he was younger, loved them too. As a mom of 9 kids, and an avid reader, they wouldn't be my choice but I would prefer they read these over nothing.
Best Book Ever!!

A story where YOU and the Bull Whip crackin Indiana Jones are on an Adventure to Horror Island to find the Legendary Emerald Dove. A pretty good Choose Your Adventure-esque book. There are more positive endings then in most of the CYA genre.

This volume finds Max (and his ghostly buddies Nicky and Tara) a few months after the close of the last book, still looking frantically for the missing pendent (life pod), but not finding it anywhere...and what should happen? Well, just as Max thinks he's gotten out of going to summer camp (at Camp Snake Lake no less) with his obnoxious brother Colin, he suddenly finds himself desperate to get there. Why? Because on his way out of the house, Colin shows Max that he's had the pendent all along. It's not long after that two of Phears henchmen show up and threaten Max and his brother...and despite his brother's despicable behavior, Max valiantly sets out to get himself to the camp and get the pendent before the ghosts hurt his brother.
This particular volume is chock full of what I really don't like about the ones that came before it. Max is different, but he's not allowed to just be different, he's presented as just shy of abused by his brother, mocked and tormented verbally by his father and not supported by his passive mother. It's typical of characters in books for kids at this age range...but I think that it is possible to make a likable, nerdy, somewhat klutzy character without having to have him be "misunderstood" and abused by those around him, this plays into a message about older kids and adults that really isn't' healthy. This issue aside, the series is pretty good (not great, but yea...it's pretty good). I was pleased to see that in Little Camp of Horrors, Max is finally coming into his own, speaking up for himself and taking a stand!
Girl really likes this series, and while she's not quite old enough to read the Goosebumps series (next year I think), the Mostly Ghostly series seems a bit simpler in plot and style while maintaining the same horror flavor as Stein's other writing, which is what kids at this age find appealing! Girl gives Little Camp of Horrors two thumbs up and I'm inclined to agree! We're looking forward to seeing what comes out of all of this!

I've been a huge fan of the Goosebumps books ever since I was younger (I'm 19 now, and although I rarely read them anymore, nothing is more nostalgic for me than digging through my box of Goosebumps books and flipping through them).
Having said that, I must say that the Goosebumps Graphix can probably only be appreciated by fans like myself. Anyone picking up these books without being able to appreciate them as Goosebumps adaptations would most likely find them cheesy, short, and messy.
I've only read #3 (Scary Summer), and here is my review:
"Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes" was well-done graphically, although the first several pages seemed too rushed and and it only started showing a real plot about halfway through.
"Ghost Beach" was by far the best of the three, combining very dark and appropriate artistry with a decent adaptation of the original material, although the plot twist at the end wasn't as well-adapted as it could have been.
"The Horror of Camp Jellyjam", one of the more quirky books of the original series, was my least favorite here. The drawing style seemed to be ripped right out of a newspaper comic strip, and the artist just didn't seem to put too much thought into properly adapting the plot and fleshing out the frames (many of the backgrounds were left blank, other than the occasional tree or stick figure).
It was nice to see short biographies of the three authors at the end of the book, showcasing their past works and adaptation methods.
Overall, I think the Goosebumps Graphix series is a well-though-out idea, and I really enjoyed seeing the different writing and art styles depicted in each story. I hope to see more books like this in the future.

They finally did it. Bernie and his pals at Rotten School have driven Mrs. Heinie out of their dorm and out of their class. Her replacement is Mr. Skruloose, and he's all military! Four hours of homework seven days a week, no slouching, no sucking up? This guy is NUTS! With Bernie's mortal enemy, Sherman Oaks, claiming victory to the Water War, this Skruloose dude has got to go! Now, the problem is how to get rid of this dude and bring back Mrs. Heinie...
R.L. Stine, famous for his Fear Street, Goosebumps, and Mostly Ghostly series has moved beyond frightening kids to making them hurl with laughter. No good can come of Bernie's antics, and that's the way he wants it. Crammed full of crude humor and mischievous pranks, The Teacher from Heck will appeal to kids tired of sappy do-good stories.
Some parents, however, will take exception to ideas like the dog used to squirt water out of its butt, water blasting the clothes of another fourth grader, and a headmaster named Upchuck. If kids and parents are okay with the "Captain Underpants" and "Farting Dog" series, then this will be a heck of a read. If easily offended, however, another title might be more appropriate.
