Though this collection is geared towards young readers, adult fans of mystery, suspense and horror will find it satisfying as well. The stories are all well written, with plenty of atmosphere and chilling plots. A great read for fans of the weird; Haining did a superior job assembling this anthology.

Danny's father grew up in the small town of Walker Falls. After Danny's parents divorce, his father decides to move back to his hometown, to try and revive the family business, the Walker Chocolate Company. Halloween is approaching, and Danny can't wait to celebrate. But Walker Falls holds a terrible secret. The town has outlawed Halloween, because of a superstition. When Danny's grandfather dies in a horrible accident, he is devastated, until he mysteriously comes back to life! Can Danny and his grandfather bring Halloween back to Walker Falls? I highly reccomend this book to R.L. Stine fans. It's both spooky and funny.

This has to be one of Stine's best books. It's a YA book but I think anyone could enjoy this. The plot's simple enough, Jenny gets a new job baby-sitting in a creepy house during a time where baby-sitters are being attacked in her town. She starts getting threatening calls and notes, is she next? You feel as if you know Jenny, and this book has some great twists. This book launched many sequals, some good, others not, but start with the original!

The Babysitter, was a great book that was so good I just couldn't put it down! I would definitely recommend it to girls that are a fan of thriller books. This book gets a bit scary at the end. If you are not a fan of scary books then I would not recommend reading this book. R.L. Stine writes great scary books , and I love reading them. If you read this this book you might want to read The Babysitter 2 and The Babysitter3.

Have you ever tooken a baby sittng job at a creepy house? Well, the book I read was "The Babysitter" by R.L. stine. The book was about a girl named Jenny who was offered a babysitting job and accepted. But as she looks in her backpack she finds threatning notes. At first she thinks it's a sick joke, then the phone rings saying the company is coming! She then knows someone wants to scare her.....to DEATH!
I liked this book because it is full of mystery and suspence. You can connect with all the characters in this book. It is really easy to understand. I gaurantee it will keep you thinking. The bad thing is that there are no characters 13 years old. All the characters are in high school except the little boy and his parents. If you like suspenceful books, this is the book for you.

Jenny, the main character, takes a babystitting job on the other side of town, in a big old creepy house that needs repairs. Creepy things are happening . . . is it her imagination, or are there really footsteps and crashes and bangs, or is it just the wind? Creepy phone calls come . . . those are not her imagination. Jenny is terrified to stay in that house because of all the terrifying things that are happening. Including that creepy next-door nosy neighbor who snoops around the house.
Meanwhile, Jenny has a boyfriend named Chuck who really cares about her. He is a jokester. With all the horrifying things that are happening, Jenny is not in the mood for jokes.
Even though Jenny is stressed out, you love her. I think she is cool.
At the end of the book, we find out who the prankster is who threatens Jenny with those creepy calls. You will not want to put the book down until you found out who it is.
I read this book many years ago, and because it is so good, I always knew that I would read it again. I finally read it again. I enjoyed it that much. I don't normally re-read books. Of all the R.L. Stine books that I have read (and I have read a lot of them), this book is the one I like the best. This book is written with superb talent, is very cleverly and perfectly crafted, and everything smoothly flows from one thing to the next. I love the whole book. It is interesting and fun. Even though I feel a lot of R.L. Stine's books are worthy of 5 stars, this book makes his other 5-star books pale in comparison - it is that good.
This is a teen book. Even though it is teen, it is fun. It is awesome. I love it.
This is the first book of a 4-book series. If you love this book as much as I do, you will definitely want to read the other 3 books. Even though each book can stand alone, I think it's more interesting to read them in order, you don't want to miss any of them. All 4 of the books are awesome. And all 4 books are original and have their own plot - they do not repeat themselves.

A child in my grandson's class at school suggested Goosebump books to him. At his request I checked out book #1 from the library for our weekly reading time. The title of the book sent up somewhat of a "red flag" but I thought it was probably just a silly title. Thru the first few chapters I kept thinking that everything was going to end up being a child's imagination creating scary things. The last few chapters revealed the REAL story and it was the most ghoulish story!!! I can't imagine anyone writing a story like that for children!!! There will be NO MORE reading Goosebump books by this Grandmother!!!!! My grandson loves mysteries and action --- I ordered a starter set of the classic Hardy Boys!!! My grandson is in an accelerated reading class but still enjoys being read to. Reading to him by phone has been a special way we have stayed connected across the miles since he has been very young. I have always encouraged him to read, read, read. There are so many WONDERFUL books out there. In my opinion these ARE NOT in that catagory!

I first started reading Goosebumps back when I was in 2nd grade, about 1993-1994. I am now 20 years old and have not read any of them in about 7 years. I, therefore, am not really able to comment on the style of the writing or the quality of scares for someone above the recommended reading level of these books - which I would place as ages 6-15.
What I can comment on is the effect these books had on my friends and me back in elementary school. Many of my friends would never bother to pick up a book, but if there was a new Goosebumps book, they would read it happily. It was a similar trend to that of Harry Potter in more recent years. So, while I can't really say much about content, I do respect the ability of a book and of a series to inspire children to read. I think it is an important contribution to society, because children who enjoy reading often become adults who enjoy reading. Most often, they will branch out from the series that started them reading and eventually get into the works that carry deeper meanings and inspire new thoughts - such as Dickens, Hemingway, Chopin, and Ellison. Goosebumps is just an intermediary step along the road to a full appreciation of literature.

Okay, it's better to have your kids read this than not to read at all. That being said, this books are the equivilent of greasy junk food. I enjoyed RL Stine's Fear Street series when I was in junior high, and I even like reading through my old ones even now. But these, are just dummed down versions. Also, who in the world thought these would be apprpropriate for 4-6 year olds is beyond me. There are much better books, even horror/scary books on the market for your kids. Find some of those and don't let them waste their precious time on these.

Have you ever wanted to live in a creepy place where everyone's dead? Well the book I've just finished reading was "Welcome to the Dead House." It's about two kids and their parents who move to Dark Falls. There, they start to see that creepy things are happening. They find out that all of their freinds are really dead, but ghosts. And their freinds need fresh blood to live. So, they capture the kids parents. What happens next? Well you'll have to read the book to find out. I really liked this book because it was filled with moiments of suspense. Another reason why I liked this book was because whenever I stopped reading it, I always wondered what would happen next. This book would be great for you if you love thrills and chills.
A great start to the goosebumps series!!!!!

When I first saw this book and the series I thought it would be something I would love to read, because I love scary books. This book was definetely great and probably one of the best books in the goosebumps series. After reading this book I will for sure read the other r.l. stine books. This book is about a family that moves into a creepy new house in the town of dark falls. When the two kids Josh and Amanda move into their new house they hate it and find a lot to complain about. Everybody in dark falls is so pale and they never go in the sun. Weird things also start to happen in their new house. To find out more about this book you have to read it. Its wonderful!!

This is the one of the many books of the Fear Street series, and it's really good. Fear Street is a series about scary and/or supernatural events that happen to teenagers in a ficitional town called Shadyside. In this book, an attractive swimmer moves into a run down house on Fear Street after her dad dies. She and her sister are a lways at each other's throats competing over everything, and when a beautiful antique bed is left in the house, they fight over it as well. However the sister who gets it is soon plauged by disturbing nightmares and weird things happening to her at every turn. This has a pretty good twist ending and gives a good taste of future books in the series.Pulitizer material it's not, but for young teens, or anyone wanting a quick thrilling read, this suits the bill just fine.
Don't read before bed

I read a lot of R.L books and loved almost all of them. This book was no exception. It had a great plot line great cliff hanger great everything. And the ending like all R.L Stine books was a twist. If your looking for a suspense book i would highly recommend this book

I liked this book, I thought the idea was original-having bad dreams about girl being killed in your bed.
I don't really get scared by RL Stine's books, but I have to admit, it was kinda creepy. I like how he describes how Maggie is trying to fall asleep and it's scary. We all can relate to that. I know sometimes when I'm trying to fall asleep, and I hear noises outside, it freaks me out.
The ending is kinda hard to believe for me, but I still never really saw it coming. Well I like the way he ended it, because I hate when the killer turns out to be a ghost or a vampire or something like that. this way, it was more realistic.

This was my first Fear Street book I read and it scared me! I was scared of going to sleep! If I would have a dream that would keep repeating I would stop sleeping! But I love this book anyway.

I seresly loved the book and don't know why. I als don't know why I waited this long before writing this review (it's been more than a year). But trust me, this one is HARD TO FORGET! I think this his BEST YET! It revolves around a boy named Buddy (don't be fooled, hes no buddy!). It takes place in the summer of 1956 and now. I can't tell you much without revealing any big stuff! Just read it! There may be murders and be pretty sad but, trust me, if you like his books, get it. And if you think Goosebumps suck and this probably no better, you're wrong. This is the farthest thing from it! Goosbumps if for little kids and I'm pretty mature for 13 and read this when I was late 11 or early 12. All I can say now is, BUY IT, BUY IT, BUY IT!

This was the first 'scary" book I bought by myself. I wasn't supposed to read scary books so i had to sneak it at night when my mom was asleep. I still remember how scared I was while I read it. It is a book that I will never forget. Because of this book I went on to read almost everything by R. L. Stine and Christopher Pike. Enjoy this book it really is a good one!!!

I think that The Beach House by RL Stine is an excellent murder mystery book. It kept me on edge with book in hand, with a surprise at every turn of a page. You can really think about what's going on. In the parts of the book when it is set in the fifties, I read about the "modern" furniture of their day, which would seem really old fashioned to people today. One example of that would be when Lucy and Kip go into the beach house and see the fifties furniture and laugh about how old it is. This made me laugh too, and think about how times and styles have changed over the years. Boys and girls in middle school would deeply enjoy reading it, for the suspense keeps you hooked until the end.
O.K. But not that great!

R.L. Stine, switches about every 30 pages back and forth from two time periods. This Summer and Summer of 1956.
In 1956 maria, Amy, Ronnie, and Sturat played a mean joke on a guy named Buddy. He doesn't like it.In fact he hates it so much he could kill...
In this summer Ashly has a crush on Brad, but she doesn't know he might be a killer...
I hated this summmer but I sort of liked 1956. So I guss that evens it out to 3 stars.
