The Wicked Heart Indeed!

This book was great. I have only read it twice but it is one of my favorites! The story is about a high school boy named Dusty Shames. He is the quiet nice boy that doesn't really stand out much. The one thing that isn't normal with our main character is that he is secretly a serial killer. Now, he isn't a bad guy, lol, but there is this force or voice inside his head that makes him kill young girls. He can't help it. His latest victim was the best friend of his newest friend. He gets involved with trying to help Sheila (his new friend) follow the clues to her friend's killer. He is also on the search to find what makes him do what he does. He doesn't want to kill anymore but it drives him crazy. The clues lead Dusty and Sheila to an old man. He tells of the time of Hitler and a lady that was at his side. This story is a little dark but it makes it a great story line. There is even a little twist at the end. I'd tell you but you have to find out for yourself! Enjoy, I know I did.

Are you looking for a good scare? Are you tired of all the old horror books that make you fall asleep? Do you want something new and exciting? If you are, you should consider "The Wicked Heart" by Christopher Pike. It's a book about horror, twisted with love and hate, with one wicked heart.
Sheila Harold lost her best friend in one of Dusty Shames attacks. Dusty is terrible. Dusty is a serial killer. He is the one and only wicked heart. Sheila's boyfriend just broke up with her, and her best friend is missing, Sheila thinks she might be dead. Sheila is doing everything she can to help stop the killings. But, can she find out who it is fast enough? Can she stop Dusty from killing? A little history from an old man and evidence from cold cases can help her come closer to stopping Dusty Shame. The wicked heart.
Personally, I really liked the book. I would rate the book 8/10. I love a good horror book to scare me out of my mind. Once I got my hands on "The Wicked Heart", I couldn't put it down. Anyone who loves a good scare will love this book. I would recommend this book to all ages.

This book is just amazing. I literally cried, it was so touching (Rela's nobility and bravery). Though it is a lot to swallow, its worth it. You see people in a different light, and it makes you question technology. Read it, and you'll see what I mean. This book is friggin' awesome tho!

I am reviewing the book "The Eternal Enemy" its about this girl that buys a VCR from the local department store so she can record a movie to show at this party's she's throwing. But instead of taping the movie she records the next nights news. It was fun at first until she finds herself in the news. I give the book 4 stars because the story is scary and great throughout the whole book.

Okay, Mr. Pike is a great author and has a pure talent at writing and deserves king of YA horror. This book was really good but when the 'twist' came, ehhhhh... can anyone say STUPID!

OK, but very weird twist!

The twist of the story threw me off because you would never be able to guess it. They didn't even give a whole lot of clues either. I liked it and thought that it was okay. It just wans't very scary. Half the book is explaining a lot of science fiction about the future. If you want a good Pike read, then go get Chain Letter (by far his best book).

This was one of the first CP books that I bought. Not read because I had read a few before this, but one of the first that I saw at the store when it first came out and had to buy. I thought the plot sounded incredibly intriguing.. I had figured out by then that the back covers of his novels just told the extremely watered down, skimpy version of the plot. Or plot points if you will.. So I couldn't wait to find out what was in store for me in this book.

It did not disappoint. Rela was incredibly real and easily related to. I could not wait to see what caused her to see into the future through her vcr and what she saw on the tape.. I admit at first that when it got into the robot part of the plot I was a tad iffy because I am not really big on sci-fi. But I swear you don't have to be to enjoy this book. He explains the plot in such a way that you understand it right away and you want to find out more..

I remember that the end shocked me. It still saddens me to think of it.

SPOILER

Rela was indeed brave to do what she did in the end. She gave up everything to make sure that the human race would survive and that the world would be a better place. She gave up her right to love.. I can not remember her boyfriend's name in the book. Was it Michael.. or maybe Chris even? It has been a couple years since I re-read this.. but I suprisingly remember most of this book accurately because it was that powerful and stayed with me. Anyway, Michael was the love of her life. Throughout the beginning of the book Rela talks about how all she wants in life is to be loved by him. She's not sure if he likes her as much as she likes him. Later it is revealed that he indeed does. But then it gets somewhat complicated, even more so than already... I won't go into that even for the ppl that already know..

One thing that always stays with me is when Michael watches the tape Rela left for him and he finishes it and turns the movie off and says "I'll never be like that. That will never be me." And that is how the book ends. That line has always stayed with me.. much like the plot of this novel.

This was a good book, but it could be better. It took them 150 pages to get to Alices party. Nothing bad happened before that. We learned about people for 150 pages. Once it got to the end though, the book pcked up. A few other good books by Mr.Pike are Monster, Bury me Deep, Whisper of death, The Evil Heart, and Remember me.

Once again, Christopher Pike brings us into a world in which a roomful of attractive high schoolers have to figure out who among them is the murderer.

At over 200 pages, this is a thicker book than most of what Pike writes, and that's probably because he's building a cast of characters to take us through a trilogy. As a stand-alone novel, though, the extra length isn't justified in supporting the formulaic plot.

Not to say that this is a bad book; Pike does a good job of adapting the modern thriller and romance genres to a young teen audience in the same way that a slate of WB tv shows have mastered that sleek package.

If you like Pike, you'll probably find this trilogy as good as his other novels. If you don't, this one won't change your mind any. If you're about to give this author your attention for the first time, I would recommend Chain Letter, which is a much better example of how good he can be.

This is great!

I read these books a while back. I loved them. This books literally grabs your attention and holds your attention untill you finish them and are crying for more. The set of Final Friends that I read were my library's, they don't have them anymore. When I found out they were lost I got so ticked off. I'm planning on buying them from a used books store near where I live. If you ever see all three of them, even if there is only one GET IT. It will be worth it believe me. They are the best set of Pike books I've ever read.
I loved every single character in this book. It's a great plot and soo funny too. I love every bit of these books soo much. You have to buy it you will not regret it.

Other great Pike books are Last Vampire 1-6, I'll see you later, Last Act and The two chain letter books

I am a big fan of pike and am waiting for The Cold One 2, which i think is never coming out. This book has some good parts in it, but i have to say this.

Mr.Pike orinialy wanted to be a sci-fi writter. But did succed. Then he wrote the horror novel Slumber Party. So i can understand why alot of his books go into sci-fi. Personaly i think the sci-fi themes in some of his horror books kills the story. Chistopher Pike, u didnt succed as a sci-fi author, so dont go there. And this book is like a sequal for Scavenger hunt

This book was one of the better books i have read. Though I didn't like all the cusing he used. What I liked about this book was that it kept my atention. It didn't make me want to doze off. It made me do the opposite, want to keep reading. For the most part all Pikes books do this. They carry suspense. One thing i liked about this book was the characters and their names. For instance Pokey I thought that was the funnyest name.
Well i really recomend thias book it was excellent!!

This book was great! The begining was semi-boring, but got more interesting when FBI agent, David Conner, burned or rather melted Rudy Failla's, the head of a powerful Mafia family, [thing] with a lighter & later killed him. After that he'd been called "Dirty Dave", & sometimes avioded , if possible. David is one man who's been hurt numerous amounts of times, especially by death. Plus David could never seem to let go off his painful past. Whenever he let himself love someone they seemed to die. He decided to retire, but his boss, Ned Calendar, insists he do one last assignment that he promises will be a piece of cake for David. But Ned & David later discover this wasn't cake, but a job too hard for any human. While David is there he also falls in love with one of the red-headed twin sisters, that are a key to evil that's been cursed upon the human race. NOTE: I loved the ending, how Pike made it confusing so a nosey person, such as myself sometimes does, who peeks to the last few pages of the EPILOGUE, yet couldn't understand who the woman or man he was refering to. In the end of, The Listeners, all hope seems lost for David & the entire human race, but what David doesn't know is that the power of love can never be broken, nor beaten, even through death, the essence will still remain. I'd be very pleased if Pike made a sequel, yet i don't think there will be. This book i will read again & again, thanks to my favorite author & an inspiration to my own writing career. I recommend anyone willing to open their minds to the unknown should read this novel.*ENJOY!* ~{;)}-<-<

I, like I imagine most people who have reviewed this book are, am a big fan of Christopher Pike. I grew up with them through my teens and am still re-reading now. So to put it bluntly I was prepared to like this novel. Unfortunately this is definitely one of Pike's worst, something which is all the more disappointing when we all know he's capable of real excellence.

The story revolves around David O'Connor, an FBI agent with a murky past who is sent to investigate a group of people who have, through deep mind regression discovered several of the government's secrets. Before long he finds himself to Lucy, one half of some twins in the group that are more dangerous than their appearances would have him think, whilst his boss sets about investigating the hidden secrets of group's founder Dr. Spear from his trip to Africa. Thus for a while we have Pike surfing through in easy mode, with a few jokes peppering a gentle story of attraction, explanation of the set-up and flashbacks to what haunts the characters. This is all well and good, but it's when he takes it to the next level and we learn of a super race of reptiles that ruled the Earth millions of years before Man appeared. This is something that Pike has explored before in books such as 'Scavenger Hunt', and it has rarely worked, and certainly doesn't here. The one scene where the scenario genuinely scares is in a visit to a woman who has drawn the creature into her and thrashes under her restraints in a mental asylum. It's such a pity that after that we're back to science-fiction mumbo-jumbo about how the ancient Egyptians built the pyramids and rapid turnarounds of character that sees hard-nosed David suddenly start believing that an evil reptile race can be invoked through identical twins.

To say this is an adult book is bizarre, as the only difference to his teen books (some of which are far more accomplised) is that there is a little swearing, but the violence is certainly no more offensive than in the 'Last Vampire' books. It's mostly that the idea is so ludicrous that many people will have trouble believing it, something which is a pity when Pike has such an obvious narrative flair. As such the book is easy to read and at times even quite gripping, but the fact that it neither convinces or really gels together pinpoints it as one of Pike's worst novels. If you're looking for his best try out the superb 'Road To Nowhere' or 'Die Softly', both of which are true originals.

i've read almost all of Christopher Pike's other books so i consider myself a sound voice of criticsm regarding his books. i liked this one. it was engaging and easy to read throughout. i don't see what makes it an adult book besides occasional swearing and some very mild nudity - take those bits out and it could pass as one of his teen books. which is just fine, because it made it incredibly easy to read. i liked David Conner and enjoyed his characterization as well as that of his boss, Ned, and Dr. Spears, the guy heading the Listeners movement. Spears especially had some interesting stuff going on; pity he couldn't be explored more in depth.
the one thing i didn't like was Lucy Temple, David's love interest. could anyone be more annoying? she was such an... sometimes. and Margaret was a little much...for obvious reasons, after you read the book. but you know, that's just the way he writes.
generally speaking, there are some recurring Pike themes in this book - an ancient evil, a greater spiritual SOMETHING that's out there, the power of love blah blah blah. if you feel like you've been there, done that, then don't read this book. but if you like Pike's writing style (smooth and easy like hot chocolate, yum) then you'll enjoy this one.

A Bit Confusing

A review by Amy
The book starts off in a love story sort of thing. Mark is crazy about this one girl, Becky. However Becky already has a boyfriend. Mark wants to do anything he can do to get her. Becky works at a computer store, which Mark visits often because his games he makes are for sale there. One day a strange person approaches Mark about his games. His name was Vincent, who also works computer games. He wanted help from Mark on his computer games. Vincent's girlfriend, Kara is interested in helping mark get Becky. She comes up with a plan about doing that. From that point on, the problems start to occur.

The characters that Christopher Pike created were very interesting. He had the shy boy who wanted the girl. Then the more suspicious guy, who wanted help. Then the nice, sweet girl, who didn't want trouble. Then of course, the suspicious girl, who always wanted to cause trouble. The author uses language, which is a bit confusing. He firsts starts off with the characters, and then quickly starts talking about the other characters. You have to be very involved to understand the story and to know what it is about. The author jumps from one thing to another.

I would only recommend this book to someone that gets very involved in books and can focus and understand confusing books. However if it is not that easy for you to understand a confusing book, that jumps from on thing to another; you shouldn't read it. I rate this book with 2 stars because it was good at the beginning then towards the middle it became unclear what was going on.

This is one of the most poetic science-fiction romances I've ever read. I loved the language, the seductive beauty of it! It's a gamut of emotions tinged with the truly surreal and bizarre and has stuck with me for years... especially the thing about the full moon.... But I won't spoil it for you: you'll have to read it through to see what I mean. The ending, for me, was a real surprise.

If you're looking for a good, swift read to take you through a cozy night by the fire, you could do a lot worse than to pick up Slumber Party, which is about a gaggle of high school girls who are snowbound in a luxurious winter resort. And oh, it seems that one of them is a murderess.

Pike does a good job in this one, sticking to his by-the-numbers formula involving attractive teens, plot twists designed to throw suspicion on everyone but the murderer, and a paranoid feeling that the muderer walks among us.

It may not be original, especially when measured against Pike's other books from the same period, but at least he does it well, moving us from point A to point B without a pause to catch our breaths.

Young adults will like the way that this novel has been tailored to suit their culture (pop culture, that is), and while it may not educate anyone about the real world, it's a pleasant diversion. And hey, you're reading, so that's good.

In "Slumber Party," 17-year-old Lara Johnson (the protagonist) and her five girl friends (Celeste Winston, Dana Miller, Rachael Grayson, Nell Kutroff, and Mindy Casey) travel to Cedar Stream, California, for a weekend ski trip. Shortly after they arrive, strange and dangerous things start to occur: a snowman mysteriously melts; Dana goes missing, leaving unusual ski tracks in the snow--both events leading Lara to a "supernatural hypothesis"--and then Mindy's arm gets seriously burned in the fireplace. What it all leads back to is a fiery slumber party eight years ago when one of them was disfigured and her sister died. And someone wants to make sure they never forget it.

"Slumber Party" wasn't quite as engaging as some of Pike's later books (I think this is his first published book under this pseudonym), but it was still a fast-paced mind twister, with a little bit of romance thrown in between Lara and a 22-year-old guy (Percy Chand) she meets at the lodge. It vaguely reminded me of "Weekend" (the book published just after this one), because of its conspiratorial vacation setup; though instead of heading South, this one heads for the slopes. If you've read "Weekend," then you may be able to uncover the mystery in "Slumber Party" a little quicker. This is certainly worth picking up if you're a Pike fan and/or like teen suspense.

I stated in a review of one of the other books that the books, in my opinion, got dumber with each one. This I feel is the downfall of the series. Its interesting in a sense, yet not entirely. The only kicker I find to this book (that prevented me from giving it 2 stars) was the ending when it is revealed what the child is.

Necessarily complicated.

I read this book and all his others when I was growing up, probably beginning around age eleven. And that was also around the time I began writing my own stories, which until recently have been pretty strictly literary fiction. I went to college, then grad school at the Iowa Writers' Workshop, and now have an MFA in fiction and am making a tentative living off my writing. But lately I've found myself turning inward, and I've thought about Mr. Pike's books a lot in the past months, possibily because I've decided to write about what interests me, rather than writing what I've been taught is "good". That may seem obvious, but for me at least, it has been difficult to distinguish the difference, because above all else, I'm interested in finely crafted stories, stories that mean something, that cannot be deflated with the pinprick of logic, etc. Which brings me to my point. I found in a storage building a big box of Pike's books and took them to my house and have begun reading them again. They have stood the tests of time and education in most ways.

Yes, they are "young adult" books, if that matters, but they are also smart in a way not much I've read is, and I've read a lot. More than that, they are wise -- a strange thing to say about books for teens, but that wisdom comes across not as a "lesson" but as an essential truth, something so obvious you can't believe you never thought of it. And also, as I re-read, I realized that a huge part of my worldview had somehow been shaped by these books. Now, that's not to say I haven't changed my mind or worked through things in different ways, but just that revelation -- that I read these and they stuck -- speaks volumes for them in my mind, because I know how much I've read that hasn't stuck. Perhaps it's the undercurrent of Eastern philosphy, the paradoxical dualism he presents in nearly every story. Because in Pike's world, the situation often (at least at the outset) seems to be one of good versus bad, just like most children's stories. But this is soon shattered by the complicated truth that situations and people aren't usually good "versus" bad. It's that the good IS the bad, and the bad is the good, which cancels them both out and thus we see grey -- an important thing, I think, for teenagers to be able to understand and carry with them into adulthood.

In this book, Sita's daughter may be evil, or she may be something else entirely, something almost approaching transcendent. What is the functional difference? Normal humans can truly understand neither. Sita has to kill for this daughter, and what of the innocent people she sacrifices? Is it terrible they should die? Especially if it's for a higher purpose? Difficult questions that Pike does not answer, but which seem more than relevent in today's charged atmosphere, when we won't or can't understand our "enemies" in a war fought in the name of God on both sides. Thus, a story about paradoxes and dualistic natures (expecially one also dealing with violence) might not be so bad for teenagers today.

They all went searching for The Secret Path - a path that leads to other Spookesvilles. They took the Secret Path through a dark doorway. They found a terrifying Spookesville where there are huge spiders, living skeletons, evil black knights, and a witch who likes to make dolls - out of kids. I recommend this book because it combines fright with adventure. So if you liked to be spooked, read the book The Secret Path (Spookesville) by Christopher Pike.

I read this series when I was young, and was positively dismal when my bookstore stopped selling them after I read book #14. This series holds some of my fond memories of book reading days, along with Animorphs, and various other series of my (not too far away) youth. That being said, Christopher Pike is an excellent writer, and even a grown person can falll for the charms of these books. He may write them for children, but the plots are enjoyable enough for anyone.

I love Christopher Pikes books. This book is on my top list of favorite stories of his, as is the Starlight Crystal. The Tachyon Web is about a group of teenagers from Earth who set out on an adventure to blast beyond the 'Tachyon Web', which is a sort of wall created by the galaxy government to keep people inside it's boundaries. The protaganist of the story doesn't really want to go, but is talked into it by his smooth talking friend. He is also badly needed because of his genius and knowledge about spacecraft. Well, they blast beyond the Web and discover an Alien ship. Their own spaceship is badly in ruins and they are unable to get back without a sort of coolant. So they plan to enter the Alien vessel and steal what they need in order to get back to Earth. What they discover is a peculiar group of nice Aliens and secrets about their own government. This is a great read and hard to put down!(as are most of his books). I am in my later 20s and I read it, and although it's geared to the young adult genre, it is a fun story to read for an adult. Check it out!

Of all his independent works (Barring his series aside) the Tachyon Web was by far the most intriguing and the best of his genre. Just when you figure out what is going on, he throws you through a loop in Pike fashion. For those that adore this author as much as I, this is a definite must-read.

I read this book in one day, and thought it flawless. I've read and loved Christopher Pike's books since the late 1980's, but had never gotten to The Tachyon Web for some reason. I think it's important that you be a fan of science fiction, although as usual Pike blends in deeper, more symbolic (and sociological) elements that transcend such labeling of genre if you so wish to read between the lines. I definitely noted the influence of other science fiction writers, but simultaneously perceived a very unique storyline. I especially liked the way Pike went against the grain of the usual sci-fi fare by portraying the alien civilization as weaker and less technologically advanced than ourselves. I was impressed to find out that this was one of his first published works, if not the first. In sum, The Tachyon Web is a quick, light, yet meaningful read that I highly recommend.

I have read over 70 books by Christopher Pike, and this one is the best. Christopher Pike has outdone himself. Trust me, this is an excellent read(despite what a few readers might think). Don't listen to anyone who says this book is trash - i've read them all, and you can believe me when i say this one is better than the rest(except maybe for the Last Vampire series). The characters are well developed, and it brought tears to my eyes(i'm not usually emotional) near the end when...nevermind,i don't want to spoil it for you. Let's just say it's a great novel, one that i'll always treasure. I couldn't ask for anything better. Congratulations to Mr.Pike on another masterpiece!

I've read a good number of Pike's books, and I think this is one of his better ones. Most of his other books deal with life, afterlife and undead life down here on the ground, so it was nice
to take a trip outside the atmosphere. The mood-clothes were a nice touch. Yup, Tachyon Web is one of my favorites from Pike, along with the Final Friends trilogy.

The second book was better then the first. It had kmore happen. It also revalved alot around Alices Death, and Jenifer and the homecoming. Then Marie got hert. I think she had no reason though to be mad at Jenifer.

Although Christopher Pike is a pro at creating realistic characters, I think he got a little too attached to the ones in this trilogy, seeing as how he stretched Alice McCoy's "suicide" from two months ago in "The Party" into two additional books (this one and "The Graduation"), instead of just creating it as one book. Albeit the characters are interesting (i.e., my favorite: Bubba, the audacious, raunchy sex fiend, who is just as hilarious as ever, especially when he spikes a Pepsi with the cocaine a narc had used to try and set up Nick, as well as when he makes a sex contract with Sara), not all of them seemed necessary. On more than one occasion, I confused a few of the characters with each other, i.e., Sara and Polly, and Bill and Russ. Probably just shows how much my mind wanders while I'm reading, though.

Anyway, with the mass introduction of characters in the previous book, I should have realized "The Party" was setting the pace for the following two books, displaying everyday high school life foremost and hinting at a bit of suspense and mystery that never shows itself until the final dozen or so pages, which is what happens in this book with the crowning of the homecoming queen, who is the next intended victim.

Although "The Dance" is a pretty good book (great writing, especially the dialogue), I thought this story line would have been better as a single book, not three. Thus, I would only recommend this trilogy to diehard Christopher Pike fans with a long attention span. Other readers may not have the patience for this long-drawn-out teen murder mystery.

The BEST Books ever!!

I'm an avid reader and have read many books, but no books have rocked my world as the Final Friends series by Christopher Pike has. The cover of the books makes them look old fashioned and cheesy, but once I started reading there was no putting the book down. They were so good that I got my mother to read them too and she enjoyed the books as much as I did. What makes the Final Friends Series so good are its fascinating characters(you'll never guess who forms friendships)and the tying relationship between them all, as well as the entire MYSTERY. When reading the first book I NEVER expected what was going to happen in the third book, but unless you read all three you won't understand the entire picture(who did it and why). So if you want to be swept into a world of frienship, murder, jealousy, and a WHOLE LOT of Mystery, then Christopher Pike's (Final Friends)The Party, The Dance, and The Graduation, is definitely for you!!

I read the book Christopher Pike's The Dance. It is the second book of a series of three. To understand this book you must read the first book of the set. This book starts off with the mystery of the first book. In the first book a girl named Alice McCoy is killed. The second book continues on about the lives of all the highschoolers and the conflicts that come between them and becoming older. In the second book too Alice McCoy's friend Michael believe's that his friend Alice McCoy was murdered. The cops claimed that it was suicide because there was no evidence otherwise to prove that she had been murdered. The cops claimed Alice McCoy had to have killed herself, but Michael believes otherwise. Throughout the book you learn about Michael's chase after the killer and about his high school friends. I would give this book a 7, if you like reading about mysteries and highschoolers lives. I would recommend this book to mor mature kids. because it has some more mature content in it. I thought this book was better than the first and I can't wait to read the third one.

I read this entire trilogy word for word. I luved it! it was great. With each turn of the page something new happened that kept me on edge and not wanting to put the book down. I love Christopher Pike. He and Lois Duncan are my two favorite teenage novelists. There style is so similar and yet so different. This truly was one of Pike's greatest masterpieces. I'm looking forward to reading his Remember Me trilogy.
