Fifteen-year-old boy Francis Tucket is stuck in the middle of the Oregon Trail with no water and food. On his way home he finds two children abandoned and all alone whose names is Billy and Lottie. Francis, Billy, and Lottie are in danger because these people called the Comancheros are trying to kill them. The main character is Francis Tucket who is an Indian captive, is very smart outdoors, and he isn't a funny person or an exciting person. This book takes place in 1847-1849 in the Oregon Trail. The genre of the book is realistic fiction with no pictures. The theme of the book is to make the most of what you have even if the situation is bad. I would rate this book 3 stars out of 5 stars because the book was a little slow threw the book. I would recommend this book to people who like outdoors, or to fourth and fifth graders because it is very easy.

One day Francis Tucket was sleeping and he heard something. So, he picked up a bucket and a shovel then went to the cave. When Francis got to the cave he kept walking further and further and he said,''Man this goes on forever and ever."Soon Francis started shoveling and he heard the same thing he heard before. He started to get a little scared so he ran back out of the cave but he heard the sound again. But he tripped over a small rock and hit another rock. One day later he started shoveling again and found a nugget of gold so he ran home and told his mom and dad and they said,''Wow it's another toy".
Here are some ways I recommend this book to other people. I think you should read this book because I liked it and therefore I would highly recommend this book. I recommend this book because it's a scary book to read.

I read the book tucket's Gold. This book is fantastic. My story is about a boy named Francis that is kiddnaped by a group of Indians but he escapes from them. He finds two kids in an abonded wagon and takes care of them.
I learned some interesting facts reading this book. I read that if you are bit by a poisonis snake you have to get the poison out of your blood within minutes or you will die. I learned that you have to shoot a deer in the heart or the meat will rott. Also, I learned that in order to shoot a gun the gun powder has to be completly dry or it won't shoot very far.
I would recommend this book for three reasons. This book is full of an action packed story about the old west. It has an amazing adventure about two young boys and one girl who stick together and survive in the prairie wast land. It is full of true facts of how people lived and survived back in the old west.
Tuckets Gold is an amazing book.

This book (Tucket's Gold) showed me what it is like to be alone with no parents in the middle of no ware. One thing was that the main character (Francis Tucket) was the oldest of the three kids a brother (Billy) and a sister (Lottie). All alone in the middle of no ware running away from the Comanchero outlaws a ruthless gang. Then they make it to the forest they where trying to reach. They set up camp and Francis went out away from camp and hunted a deer but it didn't die until twenty minutes after Francis shot it. Then they skinned the deer and they ate the deer for the next three days. But I thought the theme was to not make every situation worst than it has to be, So make the best out of a bad situation the is what I think the theme of this book would be.

Call Me Francis Tucket
The book is about a small boy named Francis Tucket. Francis stays back a 100 yards to shoot his rifle. But then he gets kidnapped by Pawnne hunters and they take him back to their tribe. He gets rescued by a guy named Jason Grimes and Francis stays with him for a year. But then they parted ways and Francis was all lone again on the parie. He stumbled upon a heard of buffalo. He shoots a cow but the buffalo did not like the loud noise of the gun firing. Francis gets caught in mass mayhem with a stampeding heard of buffalo. When the heard stops, Francis shoots another buffalo at forty yards. This time he gets to skin it when he is ready to go to sleep. In the morning he wakes up to the sound of people talking to each other. When he wakes up there is a person in front of him and he was talking to someone.
I think that the theme is life out west. Life in the west can be very hard when you get left behind by your wagon train and get kidnapped by Pawnee hunters. When you haven't eaten for 2 days and cant find anything to eat, you might starve to death.
My opinion on the book is that when you find two small children, take them with you and take care of them. Also, try to find were there wagon train went and where their pa went like Francis did.

Call Me Francis Tucket
By: Gary Paulsen

The book I read was titled Call Me Francis Tucket. The author is Gary Paulsen. This book is a sequel to the story Mr. Tucket where Francis Tucket is captured by a group of Pawnee Indians on the Oregon Trail on his way out west. In this sequel Francis is surviving with a man named Mr. Grimes. Mr. Grimes is a man who rescues Francis from the Pawnees in this story. Mr. Grimes has been with Francis for a long time and teaches Francis lots of survival skills until something comes up and Mr. Grimes has to take care of some business. There are tons of events that happen in this story and it kept me on the edge of my seat. This book made me sad and made me laugh. This was a great book and I encourage anyone who wants to know more about what the west was like and for people who are interested in survival stories.

This is a great book for any one who can read it. It's Tucket's Home by Gary Paulsen. It is a adventuress suspenseful book with non stop action its so interest you you'll never know what could happen next.

This book is book 4 of 4 of the Tucket adventures it is the last book dose Francis Tucket make it home or not? You will have to find that out for your self. Its about a boy who got lost going to organ on the organ trail with his family and now its just him and two kids he found after there parents had died on the trail 14 year old Lotty and 10 year old Billy. Tucket is 16. This book is full of Indians, strange men, and just straight up crazy killers, you never no who to trust.

I would recommend this book to people who like adventure, suspense, fighting, action, killing, and much more. This is an example of suspense from the text, " When it came it came, it was so fast and so brutal Francis almost cried out, if he had, it would have been his last act on earth out of the shadows out of the dark night a pack of devils appeared." The way they work together to try and stay alive is amazing they almost seem family. If this seems like a good book for you pick up Tucket's Home.

I read the book Tuckets Home. This book is Great. This is my overview of this book. Its about this family that lives next to the Oregon trail. And they have there own prairie. Pretty much they a tough life. I learned some interesting facts. One fact is how the Oregon trail traveld. Another fact is if you want to heel a snake bite you have to suck your blud. The last fact is people kill alot of animals just for their meat. I reommend this for three reasons. One reason is I think it is interesting to learn about the Oregon trail. Another reason is, it is exciting how to heel a snake bite. The last reason is that this book has alot of great facts. Tuckets home is a exciting book.

Escape from the fire mountain by Gary Paulsen is about 3 kids that ask there parents if they can go hiking. When they took the horse they got stuck in a fire. They got kidnapped by two guys in black they had guns and swords. I think that the theme is that you should never give up. Because they really never gave up escaping. One way they tried to escape was by running away from the place but then they got caught by the kidnappers. When they did escape with a four wheeler they ran out of gas. then they had to run the the oldest girls house. I really liked this book. I liked this book because Gary [the author] really gets me excited. The part that got me most excited was when they got kidnapped. I just wanted to keep reading because that part got my attention and it was exiting to read this book.

(1) The 10 year old girl,Nikki feeds her horse and heads off to the mountains. She ran up on some poachers and she went back home to call the warden. The phone was down so she tried the CB radio but heard nothing. then she heard someone saying help. She got the location and went to find them. Tere was a fire on the way and she has to escape it.(2) I really enjoyed this book because I like the Outdoors. It takes place in the outdoors. It made me feel like I was in a fire in a forest.(3)I had a connection with this because I have been in a situation where I had to escape a forest fire. I know how she felt.(4) I Think that if you like the outdoors and realistic fiction books you will not be able to put it down. It has a five star rating from me how about you.

Nikki's mom and dad left to go to town which was very far away. She was home alone for a long time. One day she took a horse ride to a field to look at the rams. Then she heard a gun shot and saw one of the rams fall dead, the poachers came up, got the ram's head and left not knowing they had been watched. She tried to call the sheriff on the C.B. raido. She didnt reach him, but instead heard a little boy crying for help. She went down stream to where boy had described. She found him and his little sister who had a borken leg from the fall. Then the poachers found them and were going to kill them, but she got out of the poacher's tent and messed up their gun and took their only four wheeler.
But you have to be careful you never know what could hapopen next.........

Let me start by saying I absolutely loved A Christmas Sonata. The author Gary Paulson reached out and pulled you into a heartwarming sensation . Between the laughter and tears Gary Paulson catches your attetion and makes you want to read the book.

In this novel if I had to change anything I would change nothing because it is such an awesome story. Another reason is it's so interesting.

In this novel my favorite scene was when the mountains and the river plus the animals were seen on the train. Also when the mother and the young boy were waking to the aunt's and uncles store they saw beautiful snow fall.

In the novel the characters were so believable that you felt like you could relate to them that's why I could tell my friends about this book. Plus how respectful he is and how nice he is.

Book Review

There is a little boy in this story and he is the main character. One day he was running up and down the halls oh there apartment complex and he saw one of his neighbors (Mr. Henderson) dressed up as Santa Claus. The little boy tells his mom and she says he gets paid to go to stores and talk to little kids. The little boy starts not to believe in Santa Claus.

Then they get a call from There Aunt and Uncle. They want the little boy and his mom to come to their house for Christmas. They say yes because their dad is away in a war in Germany.

This book was really interesting to read because new events kept happening like the little boy would be sad because he doesnýt believe in Santa Claus any more then he would be happy because they were going to go to there aunt and uncles house for Christmas. Gary Paulsen is a really good author.

This book will really amaze the reader because they will never get tired of reading a Christmas Sonata. Just when you think itýs getting boring it starts to get really interesting.

The first thought of the book was not very good but then when it got real good. It wasn't very good because they were getting packed to go see their cousins. Then when they got to the house it got real good. The story is about a kid who got cancer and all he really wants to see before he dies is Santa Claus and his reindeer. The best part is when the boy really gets to see Santa and his reindeer. The ending is good cause he gets to Santa Clause and his reindeer.

This book is about a boy that was named throughout the book as "the boy" that goes to his grandmother's work and comes to visit her and to work out in the farm with the two men that the grandmother cooks and cares for. The boy gets to experience the thrill of milking the cow and picking the weeds just like he wanted to do when he was younger and wanted to be like the men. So finally he gets to, now what does he do?

This book was very wonderful and reminded me of when I was young and then turned into a teenager with my grandmother always by my side to help me.

Although I am not much of a reader, Alida's Song, a book by Gary Paulsen, really caught my eye. Now I will tell you three reasons why this is the book for you. The first reason why you should read this book is it shows how a grandmother will do anything to help her grandson.. When she finds out her daughter and son-in-law are getting drunk and leaving their son hungry with no money, she brings him to the farm she works on to help out he learns a lot about his grandmother. There is also the compassion that he finds after he meets the Sirs' of the house. For example, as they are riding through the fields to get water from the well, he noticed few logs with beautiful faces while he is looking he notices one he said, "That is my grandma" Last, love is shared with his grandma and him. Every year there is a party thrown for Alida, and she can choose any man to dance with for her special song. She chooses her grandson because he turned out to be a special young man. Truly, I hope this is a book that you will enjoy as much as I did.

Will have appeal for readers of all ages.

"This fourteenth summer started the same way and would have continued the same way except that in the first week after school was out he received a letter from his grandmother."

So begins the "boy's" summer with his grandmother on a small farm in Minnesota. This summer really would be something special and a far cry from the hard life with his drinking parents. "The boy," as Gary Paulsen calls himself in this semi-autobiographical story, finds himself absorbed in farm life. He learns to love the two bachelor brothers, Gunnar and Olaf, who employ his grandmother as their cook and regard her in the highest esteem. He learns to appreciate his grandmother's gentle but firm love.

In the rigorous day-to-day life he learns the danger of a flock of geese, how to milk cows, clean barns, groom horses, gather eggs, and on and on. It is a full life, with laughing and hard work. This is one of the summers he remembers fondly and knows, as an older man, that it was his grandmother's special gift of life to him.

The summer ends, but not before he shares a dance with his Grandmother Alida. They dance to a song written and played by Gunnar and Olaf in memory of "Alida and Clarence." It is a special moment to always be replayed in "the boy's" bank of memories.

This little gem of a book is termed a "companion" to THE COOKCAMP. While these two books can be read by themselves, together they are even more powerful. Paulsen's portrayal of the adult world through the eyes of a boy is both moving and poignant. This is an easy, quick read that will have appeal for readers of all ages.

"Alida's Song" is written by Gary Paulsen and I believe it is a great book. The book is about a boy whose parents were alcoholics and his grandmother was the only one who cared about him. After his grandmother sent him a letter to come work with her at a farm, he learned a new meaning for his life. The story's setting transforms from the trashy city life to a little happy farm. Many things happen at this great farm and it changes this boys life. This story shows many different relationships that are emotional and fun to follow. The author's realistic descriptions in the story make me be able to image the scenes in my head. He describes the boy's surroundings very well to give the reader a good idea of how it affects the boy's social life. The author shows the character's funny and emotional sides to help the reader get a better understanding of the characters. The author also keeps the ending very hidden and gives almost no clues of how the book is really going to end, which makes the story more interesting. Along with the story the author gives some information about how life was in the early 1920's to give the reader a clear picture. My favorite part of this is at the end when it all comes together. I would recommend this book to other readers because this story was very interesting and adventurous.

Gary Paulsen is the award winning author behind such books as Brian's Hunt, Guts, and Hatchet. His books usually have boys as the main character, because, as he put it, "...I was a boy and I did boy things - still do, since I'm what might be called an old boy." But in Molly McGinty Has A Really Good Day, he steps out of his outdoor/wilderness writing to introduce us to a well-organized 6th grader named Molly.

He based this character on a girl who once told him about her three-ring binder similar to Molly's. For Molly however, this notebook is her lifeline. She needs it for everything in her school life, her social life, and her family life. And now it's gone!

The book follows Molly for one day... one crazy day. After she loses her notebook, she thinks her life has fallen apart. She gets a black eye, she has her eccentric grandmother go to school with her for Grandparent's Day, she gets a lunch tray dumped into her lap, and to top it off, she is embarrassed in front of Jake Dempsey, the cutest boy in school

Will Molly find her notebook? Will her grandmother ruin her social life at Our Lady of Mercy middle school? Will Jake Dempsey ever talk to her? Follow Molly on her crazy day (minus her notebook) in Molly McGinty Has A Really Good Day by Gary Paulsen!

She gets a black eye and gets embarrassed in front of the cutest boy in the 6th grade. And that's only the beginning! What else will happen to her in the course of one school day?

I think this book is good for anyone over the age of seven to read.

My son loves to read all of the Tucket series books. This book is a great value because it includes 5 books in one. My son does not put reading on the top of his favorite thing to do however the Tucket series has caught his interest. I recommend this book to anyone with a elementary age boy.

Tucket's Ride is about a 15 year old boy named Francis Tucket who's on a western adventure to find his parents. In Mr.Tucket,Francis gets a rifle for his fourteenth birhday. He drops back to practice shooting when he gets kidnapped by Pawnee indians. He goes to the indian camping grounds and gets rescued by a western man named Mr.Jason Grimes. He is one-armed man who teaches Francis to live by the way of the wilderness. After all that, Francis and Grimes part ways.On Call Me Francis Tucket, he saves 2 kids from dying.Their father died from a sickess called Chorela. Francis takes the two kids with him on his journey to find his parents on the Oregon Trail.

I really liked Tucket's Ride because it's so exciting and a really good book. I think that every good book should be read and reviewed. So I think you should pick up a copy of Tucket's Ride and get to reading.

This book is a tale of a teen perserving throughout terrible hardships. Brian's Winter is a tremendous and exciting book that I think everyone should read. It is about a teen named Brian who is on his way to visit his dad in the Canadian oil fields when his pilot has a heart attack and dies. When Brian crashes and his only mode of defense or survival is a hatchet that his mom gave him, he is bewildered by how much he depends on it, and now with the Northern winter coming Brian is working harder then ever with his hatchet, war bow, and his war lance he makes to get meat for the winter. When Brian is attacked by a cow moose and broke some ribs he is wondering how he will keep on getting ready for the winter. Another major event that occurs is Brian's camp is ransacked by a bear and when Brian kicks the bear in the rear the bear knocks him aside like a bowling pin. Gary Paulsen like all his other books uses many details and you can form a very vivid picture in your mind, it really makes you focus on what is happening in the book and you will not want to put it down. The main plot of the book is Brian adapted to the way you had to live and what to wear in order to survive and to not starve in the Northern winter. He survived this because he figured out how to fit in with nature and live like the Native Americans lived. This worked for him because he figured out how to hunt larger game and he figured out how to store fish and food. The only thing I didn't like is how the story ended so abruptly.

Brian's winter is a tale of struggle through hardships and faith that no matter what happens if you have a goal and perservere you will eventually succeed. Brian is a kid who gets stuck in the middle of the wilderness deep in Canada with nothing but the clothes on his back and a hatchet that his mom gave him before he left on the fateful plane ride. This book tells about him trying to adapt and survive in the harsh winter climate. My favorite part of the book was when Brian tried to take down a huge moose. The one thing that I did not like was when he finally got rescued at the end. I thought that it was too abrupt, he heard a gunshot and then after finding the source was saved by a trapping family living a few miles away. I really liked how the author would go in depth to give you all the details so that you had a vivid picture in your mind. Overall I would rate this book a four out of five and I would encourage anyone to read it.

I think that it was a very adventurous and exiting. He put alot of detail in it that helped me understand it alot better. My favorite part of the book is when he shoots the moose, and then the moose comes and attacks Brian. Gary Paulsen is a very good author, and I think that he should keep writing more books.

The Spanish Language version of Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, is a great adventure/survival story for middle school readers. Alone in the wilderness with only a hatchet to aid him, the young protagonist faces exterior forces and his own inner fears.

Hatchet - an realistic survival story that is eminently well written. Gary Paulsen has comboned his own knowledge of survival and woodcraft with the easily beliavable character of Brian Robeson; the result is an award-winning novel that will not be put down until it is finished.

Though I read this book quite a while ago, I still remember how interesting and riviting it was. The story is intense, and draws the reader into the thoughts and emotions of Brian- the main (and practically ONLY) character that is shown. Definately a must-have!

The hatchet is about a boy named Brian. Brian is going through an emotional trauma. His parents just broke up, and now his dad lives in northern Canada. He is going to visit him when the pilot of the two-seater plane he is traveling in has a heart attack. Brian flies the plane for a while until it runs out of fuel. He lands it on a lake. He climbs out and swims to shore. He lies there for a few days, but decides to build a shelter when he gets fed up with the mosquitoes. Lots of animals get in including a skunk, a porcupine, and a bear. He makes it stronger, only to have it ripped down by a tornado. He makes up his mind to get a supply box from the plane. He builds a raft, swims out there and then almost passes out underwater when he sees that the pilot's skin and eyes have been food for the fish. He brings the box back to shore and gets rescued after leaving the emergency transmitter on. It's a really good book and you should read it.

Hatchet is a riveting book. It combines drama, comedy, and suspence all in one action pacted book. It's about a boy who ends up alone in a Canadian forest after a plane crash, and all the adventures he has. He has to learn a lot about surviving in the wilderness, including how to find food, shelter, and how to live with wild animals. He learns a lot about himself and how much heart it takes to be without everything you would normally live with. I enjoyed this book very much. Sometimes i found myself falling asleep with the book over my face because I did not want to go to sleep so i wouldn't miss an exciting event that was just around the corner. I'm going to keep reading Gary Paulsen. He is an excelent writer.
