Book is great from young and old alike. Our ninth grade students think it's absolutely "cool" and seem to enjoy getting the extensive and in-depth info on Shakespeare in a light-hearted and entertaining format of colorful graphics and "to the point" wording.

As the table of contents, disguised as a playbill, informs the reader, "The Globe Theatre is proud to present a new season of Mr. William Shakespeare's plays." So come one, come all and take your seats as author, Marcia Williams, presents seven famous plays, As You Like It, Antony and Cleopatra, Richard III, Twelfth Night, King Lear, The Merchant of Venice and Much Ado About Nothing, in comic book format. Each "performance" is broken down into three parts: Shakespeare's actual words, spoken by the actors on stage, the plot of the story told in crisp, clear and uncomplicated text beneath the pictures and the often amusing and sometimes important remarks made by the audience as they watch. The illustrations of each play are colorful, easy to follow and packed with marvelous detail that catches the readers' eye and propels the story forward. Bravo, Mr William Shakespeare is a wonderful and enjoyable introduction to the Bard's plays that takes you back to their original setting at the Globe, in the mid-1500s and is an evocative experience that's sure to whet the appetite of young readers. "The audience is asked to refrain from throwing hard objects at the performers. Rotten fruit only, please. Beware of pickpockets!" Read, learn and enjoy!

Basics behind the making of the film

As to say Spike Lee is one-of-a kind director and a good follower. I luv him from the top since he been out. I would actually like to hear more from him 'cuz he's still my top director and mentor. Now back to the movie, I know everybody have love for this flick that Spike Lee created it talks about the life and times of civil rights leader Malcolm X (played by my main man Denzel Washington) which begins on reading the screenplay, the talks about it, the stars who played on the film and to those that believe that believe it out, etc. This is one of my all-time favorite books to read 'cuz it tells it all right here from this movie I like. Anyway it's still my #1 favorite movie of all-time. I look forward for Spike Lee putting out a memoir of his life and where he started his film-playing career into a higher level which drops in Sept or Oct of this yr. Specially look forward of hearing it.

An informative and educational book on an important film.

"By Any Means Necessary" is an excellent book on the making of the film "Malcolm X" by director Spike Lee. Not only do we get a chance to see the film from the director's eye, but we also get to read all of the hassles he had to go through in order to come out with a film in Hollywood. The whole tone of the book, like all of Lee's books on his firms, is that of a diary. So what we're reading is random notes, scribbles, and just little lines that he will remember down the line. It almost seemed like a match made in hell: Spike Lee, considered to be a "controversial" film director, does a film on the line of Malcolm X, considered to be a controversial human rights figure. Throughout the book, Lee has to remind himself that despite the nay-sayers, the film will be done, even at times when he doubts his own creative genius. There are also thoughts from some of the actors (including Denzel Washington, who also played Malcolm X in his early years), but the best words come from Lee

Can't Catch Me And Other Twice Told Tales by Michael Cadnum is an outstanding collection of interesting and insightful lore drawn from history and retold with a modernized and compelling philosophical perspective of contemporary wisdom and collective post-situation knowledge. Diligently feeding its readers with advice and worldly understandings of these once ancient tales of long ago and far away, Can't Catch Me gives the reader an intriguing compendium of new-age tellings. Can't Catch Me is very highly recommended for general fiction, philosophy, historical, myth, folklore enthusiasts for its adroit grasp of these ancient "twice-told" tales.

I found this delightful book quite by accident while looking for another title by this wonderful author for my daughter. Can't Catch Me collects 18 whimsical tales, all retellings of familiar stories. "Bear It Away," is Goldilocks transformed into something Kipling might have written for his "Just So Stories": "How Bears Lost the Ability to Speak." "Can't Catch Me" retells the Gingerbread Man. "P-Bird" is the Phoenix. And so on. But although half the stories in this volume retell classic fairy tales, the stories are much more than that. They take familiar stories and make them magical again. For adults, for children, for anybody who grew up reading for the pleasure of discovery.

Dealing with Children's Stress

Review Date: 2005-03-24
This book talks about children coping with daily life, coping with major trauma, and they talked about the gender as in social relationship based on differences between the sexes. I have learned that children live in a unique culture, that children if given a chance, they can already articulate the joys as in playing of their daily life. The stress measurement in children is that they rank according to the development of the taxonomies of stressors derived from children's interviews, school class discussion, or sentence completion. With the children's coping with stress, behavior problems, and coping with daily life as the child begins to grow up, families are going to have to deal with all of these problems.

A MUST READ FOR ALL PARENTS!

This book is a collection of short stories. When I began reading this book, I immediately read five or six stories. Later, I realized it was better to read one story at a time, and take time to reflect on its meaning and purpose. I very much enjoyed reading this book, both for entertainment, and for the history and enhanced understanding of Chinese culture. I always thought that American and Chinese cultures were very different, and yet many of these stories deal with themes that are common in English literature. Mr. Ma's command of the English language is amazing. I very much enjoyed this book.

A book for every ghost-story lover!

I was alone in a classroom when I read this book. People were stopping to look in to see what was so funny! It's written for children but an adult with a keen eye and sense of humor will really enjoy this one!

My drama coach chose this play for our (Tulsa Memorial) high school's entry into the one-act competition during my junior year in the fall of 1981. I was cast as Cinderella. The cast around me was much funnier and more talented than I, and we were wildly successful all the way to state contest. This play is fun for all ages (5th grade and up) and provides various options on stage direction to suit your cast. Buy it! You won't be disappointed!

Mr. Chase has written a charming and witty Cinderella that appeals to the adults in the audience as much as to the children. It entertains while driving home the lesson that true beauty is found in the heart. The humor has a quirky, modern touch that is easily adapted to suit different stylistic approaches. Tremendous fun to produce with young performers. Also works well for professional companies that cater to children.

The stories draw you in; a good, clean escape from the present. The characters and situations are very realistic, yet are not gory, nor do they sugarcoat life. Very entertaining; I found myself wishing the drive to work/home was a little longer.

This new and updated volume of Prosser's Animal Physiology can be taken as the most accurated and useful book about animal physiology. It's clearly, well-writen and has a large number drawnings and tables, and graphics as well. The cited literature's as complete as possible and the chapters are displayed in a logical, integrative sequence. I enthusiastic recomend this book for general physiologists, environmental biologists and specificaly, for comparative physiologists, like me. However, the book is quite expensive for those living here in Brazil. A.

David Guard's musical background shows in the angrily, bravely, happily and tragically dancing drawings and text of DEIRDRE: A CELTIC LEGEND. The former Kingston Trio member makes it clear why this story has gone through so many retellings: the skilled chess-playing daughter of Elva and storytelling harper Fedlimid macDall, Queen Deirdre returned from a seven-year exile so that her lover's murder with the other heroic sons of Uisnach would be opposed, witnessed and mourned; the old ways would not be forgotten; the people of Scotland would be safe from her husband, Red Branch Chief and Ulster High King Conchobar macNessa; and the suffering would end among her people in Ireland. I find it interesting that the author included understanding insects when talking about how much Deirdre knew: Annie Dillard says in PILGRIM AT TINKER CREEK that the key to figuring out life might be in understanding bugs. The beautifully simple book, along with the song "Deirdre" on the Beach Boy's "Sunflower/Surf's Up" album, can help readers tackle Randy Lee Eickhoff's THE RAID, THE FEAST, and THE SORROWS; Morgan Llywelyn's RED BRANCH; and the classic versions of DEIRDRE by James Stephens, John M. Synge, and William Butler Yeats.
