Bill and I wrote this book in 1978. It is absolutely obsolete and will be of no value to anyone except historians of technology.

Many people suffer mental distress because of real or imagined defects in how they look. Self-esteem is often linked to personal appearance. The authors of this book think that is not a bad thing. They deliberately emphasize the link between looking "good" and feeling good. They target a very vulnerable group. Adolescents are especially likely to be worried about how they look.
The illustrations are likely to upset any victim of obesity. All the photographs of young people exercising show them of ideal body weight, without facial blemishes, and, when in groups, with the males taller than the females. No obesity victims are shown exercising.
The drawings are egregiously offensive. In one, a victim of severe obesity is shown sitting and crudely mocking a baseball player. In others the overweight are shown with midriffs bulging out of ill-fitting clothes.
Anyone reading this book (and maybe the authors themselves) should be given the opportunity to read Lucy Grealy's "Autobiography of a Face" and "Weight Bias" edited by Kelly D. Brownell.

The book sent by this seller was the 4th edition. I bought an 8th edition. Obviously, they sent me an outdated wrong book!!!!

The subject matter was very interesting, but I noticed so many obvious mistakes. It was so distracting. There was one section that was missing the last half of a descriptive paragraph. I have never seen a book like this before. It was like they published the book with out copy writing it. If you can get past that I'm sure you'll love it.

Some good info buried beneath a mountain of poor organization, archaic references, and unexplained concepts. Don't buy it.

This has been the worst Manson related book I have read. The writer puts himself on a pedestal and bores you with his "insight". As intelligent as he makes himself out to be, the book is full of grammatical errors, and he even calls one of the defense attorneys by the wrong name. I didn't even make it half way through the book. I do suggest that if you see it at a library that you pick it up and read a little just so you know where I'm coming from.
