This is THE QiGong toolbox to have. I am studying Oriental Medicine and want to learn more about Qi Gong and Tai Chi, and after trying a few dvd's and single books, found this package deal.

Ken Cohen makes it possible to learn QiGong when a teacher for daily/weekly classes isn't available. Dvd's, cd's and manuals--it's all here. I have only been using mine for a few days, but I can tell it's going to be an amazing learning experience!

This set is the best compilation of beginner exercises and meditations I have seen yet. He combines instruction with information to help you learn as you practice. Definitely worth the buy.

I bought this thinking that it was a workout DVD set. I was initially disappointed that it wasn't, but as I watched the DVDs, listened to the CDs, and read the enclosed booklet, I was pleasantly surprised. This was actually so much more. The instruction is more detailed than you will ever get on an exercise DVD. It answers a lot of the questions that have been turning over in my mind. I didn't know it ahead of time, but it was just what I needed.

Extremely Practical

Ken Cohen is clear in his descriptions - knowledgable of the material - useful in the information and exercises he describes and practices and models in the CD's, DVD's and book. The practice of qigong can be learned well through this material. He is down to earth in his explanations and demontrations, making understanding very accessible.

Highly Valuable Enterprise

Without a doubt, Mr. Cohen has contributed, and continues to contribute, to the expositon of Eastern philosophy within Western culture. The walls are slowly crumbling and giving way to the world of self-development and personal evolution. There are two things I would have liked to have experienced from this program. The first would be a less affective tone from the narration. In its place, I would have preferred a more vibrant, inspiring, less-coddling tone. There is too much breathiness in the narration that distracts from the presentation of the basics and has the potential of turning away readers with a more energetic vibration in their hearts. Perhaps a discussion of the more aerobic forms of Qi Gong, such as Nei Gong or Nei Jia, would have been appropriate, but the tone would have contradicted the energizing power behind these forms. Let us not forget that first, and foremost, Qi Gong was a martial art practiced by the warrior classes. It eventually evolved as a spiritual monastic practice, but the monks themselves were warriors by default. Under the despotic rule of unenlightened emperors and warlords, China's priests had a need to develop a martial defense system. As a Qi Gong and Tai Chi instructor, I find that it is a constant struggle to explain to students that Qi Gong and Tai Chi are not practices that are limited to senior citizens. Once I demonstrate Nei Gong, and/or Tai Chi fighting form, students do begin to understand what these ancient practices have to offer. The troubling thing is that most people walk about with a misguided representation of Qi Gong before they are illuminated otherwise. The second experience I would have enjoyed would have been a more global discussion of Qi Gong history and its evolution. Mr. Cohen presents his style without mentioning that there are thousands of different forms of Qi Gong in existence today. To his credit, Mr. Cohen does recognize this fact elsewhere, but not within the scope of this program. That's fine, not a problem, but the consumer can easily walk away thinking that there is only one style of Qi Gong...Cohen Qi Gong. The reader should also note that some of the exercises are incomplete and only offer an introductory sampling of the tip of the iceberg that is Qi Gong. It is understandable that there is a general, economical need to appeal to a wide audience, but the narration and title should explicitly state that all chapters are simply introductory. Nevertheless, there is much merit and reward to be garnished from Mr. Cohen's work. Practice his way and the reader will definitely see an improvement in health, strength and vitality over time. Although not a seminal opus, this product is the culmination of a highly important, and sorely needed, educational service. I encourage all teachers, readers, students and practitioners to allow this introductory work to be a guide towards a deeper practice.

Viewers, I know Betty Crocker Cookbook has been around for a very long time; long before I knew how to say Betty Crocker, but when I first discovered MaryAnn's Cookbook, I was living in Cali, and I had to order the Cookbook thru a major Bookstore. Upon reciept of the Cookbook, I started with the Meatloaf by the Professor...It is the best I've ever had; now don't get me wrong I do enjoy making meatloaf the ole fashion way, but that recipe will leave you coming back for more. So I relocated to the South, and left my Cookbook with a relative to use, unfortunately, I never got it back, so I contacted every Bookstore in this town, and everyone is sold out, or can't order the Cookbook. So, I saw on the Amazon.com that I could order the Cookbook, and I've always been reluctant about putting my CC number online, so I sent a MO in to the address listed on Amazon, and to no avail, my MO was lost in the shuffle, I went belistic, so I am now forced to put my CC online in order to get the Maryann Cookbook, and I will tell each and everyone out there, if you've tried the rest, then you MUST try Maryann Cookbook, it is the BEST. It's worth losing the money from the MO and having to go another route to get my Maryann Cookbook. God only knows, I wish I could have ordered the Cookbook from Maryann herself, then I know I would have long recieved my Cookbook by now. Again its worth it!!

Mary Ann is the coolest. And man can she cook!!

Not only does this book have some great recipes, but Dawn has done a masterful job of both blending and separating the fictional characters of Mary Ann and the real- life Dawn Wells through the various anecdotes that are sprinkled throughout the book. A must have for every Dawn Wells fan.

Great recipes, great stories.

Every recipe I've tried in this book has been wonderful! There are Gilligan-themed recipes, favorite recipes of cast members, and Dawn Wells' own family recipes, along with an interesting story about her family's history in cooking! (Naturally, there is a plethora of coconut-cream pie recipes as well!!)

Between the recipes are fascinating behind-the-scenes stories about the cast members, Gilligan trivia, and bits of script from the series.

From Welfare to Faring well is absolutely a wonderful book to read. This book is very hopeful, very emotional and very uplifting. I just could not imagine going through this situation and still keep my head held high. Mr. Brown showed me through this book that without a doubt whatever you are going through you will and can succeed if you are determined. I definitely do applaud Mr. Ken Brown on being so determined and hardworking at such a very young age. I applaud Mr. Brown for being such an inspiration to all the young people out there that may feel that what they are going through now that is impsossible for them to succeed. Author Ken Brown, has brought to life, the daily stories of so many young people that grow up in Urban America. It is understandable why this book means so much to him as it appears to have helped in purging. I applaud him for letting others into his life. It is a book of everyday struggles that teaches us all a meaningful lesson or two when it comes to interacting with people from backgrounds we don't fully understand.

This story proves that with faith, hope and a vision, we can get through any situation that comes our way and become all that we dream to be! It is a story of HOPE!

I throughly am appreciating this book as I wait for my child to be born. The photos are beautiful and help me visualize my child growing daily. Each week's fetal development is wonderfully described through combining the actual anatomical facts with an acknowledgment of God's hand in this amazing process. The prayer each week touches my heart. This book helps me slow down for just a moment to hear God's Spirit working to ready my life for my child. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is at all amazed by this miracle of life: growing a baby within her womb.

My mom gave me this book recently to celebrate my pregnancy with her first grandchild. I love reading about my baby's development each week, and it's wonderful to have a weekly page to write my thoughts, feelings, or prayers. The pictures are breathtaking, and the scripture quotes and prayers are perfect. This book is even more special to us because Dr. Wells is the obstetrician who delivered me 25 years ago! :)

Parentcraft is a clear, practical and supportive guide for everyone involved in parenting. As well as to parents themselves, I highly recommend it to those in jobs that involve caring for children, such as residential care staff and foster carers. It also provides excellent material for those who work in parent education. I work in training social care staff and I have received a range of very positive comments on how helpful people have found it in their work with parents. I think its a must for professional staff working with children and families.

No matter the state of the economy, the weakness of the markets, or the dudgeon of the editorial page, there's always one part of The Wall Street Journal that brings a smile -- the center column on the front page known in our household as the "nut box." "Herd on the Street" collects the best of a special genre of nut box stories, the ones about animals.

From dogs and cats to roaches, sturgeons, and Punxsutawney Phil, most every corner of the animal kingdom is represented here. The essays are almost uniformly well written, entertaining, and sometimes even educational. More than a few are laugh-out-loud funny, some are quite memorable, and one at least is unexpectedly poignant -- a contribution by slain WSJ reporter Daniel Pearl.

Animal lovers might well find themselves sitting down and reading this title from end to end. And certainly, people who otherwise have no sympathy with or interest in the Journal will find this worth the read. It would make a fine book to keep by your bed, or in a guest bedroom, for an end-of-the-evening treat before resting up in readiness for what The Street may throw at you in the morning.

I'm really amazed how Ken Dermota understand Chile, about his 'democracy' and politics and writes a lucid book about this issues. I have read the spanish edition of this book (a litle longer). This book explain why during the return of the democracy, the chilean press lost his investigative nature and turn into just the voice of the bigs companies, owners of the press also. It's full of examples and very well documented.

Hey, hold on a sec - i didn't say this could teach you BASIC .... most people see a programming book and think, "This can teach me how to program" .... but this isn't so. This is merely a dictionary, an invaluble resource for any programmer who can't remember every command he's ever used or ever will.

The reference in this book dates back to the Apple II (pictured on the cover) but is still valid today, lacking only advanced features specific to a given compiler (this is the original BASIC, not modern renditions).

A Lucid Study of Korean Christian Nationalism
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2002-12-12
New God, New Nation: Protestants and Self-Reconstruction Nationalism in Korea, 1896-1937 covers an important period in modern Korean history, that is unfortunately both highly pertinent and politicized. Wells investigates the historical, economic, and ideological confluence of protestant Christian theology and nationalistic movements in Korea between the end of the Choson dynasty and the Japanese colonial occupation. Examining various Christian nationalist leaders, such as Cho Man-sik, Yun Chi'ho, and Syngman Rhee, Wells concludes, that the relationship between religion and nationalism is problematic.

More than Wells's ultimate thesis, the book is a lucid, much needed study of the limitation of Korean nationalism in the face of Korean and Japanese resistance. The study includes a discussion of the March First movement and the rise of socialist alternatives to Christianity. Wells attempts to defend Korean nationalism for its apolitical nature, while stressing the difficult task of creating Christian communities by reconstructing moral individuals from the bitter, forlorn Korean masses. Wells also examines the practical sphere of cultural nationalists, like Kim Sonsu, who prospered in business, but were accused of collaboration with the Chosen Government-General. Briefly, he also examines the role of foreign missionaries in the major Korean communities.

Although the book is concerned with a theological subject, namely, the relationship between nationalism and religion, it is more helpful as a Korean history text. The dearth of good English-language materials with access to Korean-language sources frustrates a balanced and non-politicized discussion of Korean development. Wells's portraits of numerous Korean nationalists are fair and illuminating. Wells also advances the thesis, that both the New Village Movement (sae maul undong) and the Self-Sufficiency (juche) ideology are offshoots of the reconstruction ideology.

This book is for advanced students of Korean studies and theology, not for beginners. It is also well-written, but fortified with some precise argumentation only experts would appreciate. But for those with a good knowledge of Korean history history, theology, and economics, it is a fresh glance at a very important chapter in Korean history. It is also a window on current events on the peninsula, which does not seem to have advanced much beyond 1937.
